A man who was accused of being one of two who attacked and shot a businessman in Christiana, Manchester, was mobbed to death by residents of the district on Saturday night, police said.

The dead man has been identified as Dwayne Denton, a 24-year-old resident of *lo** Sucker Lane in the parish.

Information reaching THE STAR is that about 9:45 p.m., the 57-year-old businessman was shot by one of two gunmen who attacked him and his wife as they were about to enter their yard. Police said the businessman returned the fire from his licensed firearm and the men fled.

He was taken to hospital and treated, the police said.

Residents who learnt what had happened began searching the community for the alleged attackers. During the search, police said Denton was found suffering from a gunshot wound. He was set upon and beaten before being taken to the Percy Junor Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Christiana police are investigating.
