GEORGETOWN, Guyana GUYANESE authorities have ordered the exhumation of a 15-year-old girl who reportedly died after church leaders tried to treat her convulsions with an exorcism.
National Security Minister Clement Rohee said the government of the South American country hired a pathologist from a neighbouring country who will arrive over the weekend to re-examine the remains of Sangeeta Persaud.
No one has been charged in her death, and a preliminary autopsy report was inconclusive.
Persaud died in late March after church leaders in a rural farming community said they spent five hours praying for her as they pressed on her stomach and head.
Persaud was eventually taken to a hospital, where she died.
The girl's mother has said Persaud had suffered from a bad cold for several years and was tested for tuberculosis. The teen was supposed to go back to a hospital on April 19 for test results
