The fatal shooting of a man by the police in St Catherine yesterday resulted in some residents of Morgan's Lane protesting along Old Harbour Road.
The dead man has been identified as Mark Sewell, otherwise called 'Squaddie', 41, of Morgan's Lane, Spanish Town, St Catherine.
"He was the vice chairman of a community group organisation. He was not a wanted man. He told the family that he received threats on his life. This is a really sad thing for the family who is now living in fear," a relative of the deceased told The WEEKEND Star.
She said her brother was a brilliant individual who was a university graduate.
Residents say Sewell was killed in cold-*lo**ed execution style as the police went to his home with a warrant.
They claim he surrendered himself and was shot and killed.
Police account of the incident differs from that of the residents.
They told The WEEKEND Star that about 6:30 a.m., a team of police went into Morgan's Lane looking for Sewell, who was a person of 'interest'.
When they reached the house Sewell came out with a gun. He pointed it at the police who took cover and fired hitting him.
A 9mm pistol was seized from the deceased. The Bureau of Special Investigations has since started a probe into the matter
