PNP to decide on the future of West Central St. Andrew caretaker

The future of People's National Party (PNP) caretaker for West Central St. Andrew Patrick Roberts is to be decided on Monday evening by the executive of the Party days after he was arrested and charged with breaching the Firearms Act.

Mr. Roberts, who was a PNP candidate in the 2007 General Election, was charged by the Hunts Bay Police last Wednesday.

Hours after his arrest the PNP Secretariat said it noted the charge with grave concern.

The PNP said his status in the Party would be reviewed by the Executive Committee when it meets this evening

Mr. Roberts is facing suspension from the Party.

The police reported that on January 20, they seized two illegal firearms from a man who engaged them in a shootout on Waltham Avenue in Kingston 13.

One of the weapons, a .38 Taurus Revolver was traced and found to be the property of Mr. Roberts.

On Tuesday March 30, Mr. Roberts was interviewed by investigators and he reported that he was just being made aware of the disappearance of the weapon.

A file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecution who ruled that Mr. Roberts should be charged with breaches of the Firearms Act.
