A policeman and a civilian who were charged in relation to the gun and ammunition seizure off Mountain View Avenue on February 4, now have additional charges against them, after being accused of attempting to bribe the police on the day of their arrests.
Sergeant Russell Robinson and Garnett Pellington were slapped with breaching the Corruption Prevention Act in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Allegations are that on February 4, police on a routine patrol, saw a group of people acting strangely and went to Munster Road where a premises, allegedly belonging to Pellington, was searched and 19 guns and 9,600 assorted rounds of ammunition found.
Another 600 rounds of ammunition were found at another location along Mountain View Avenue alleged to be Pellington's business place. Another 200 rounds were also found at locations in the St Andrew South and North police divisions.
The court was told that when the men were being arrested, Pellington offered the lawmen $200,000 to be released. It is also alleged that the sergeant tried to convince the officers to set him free.
Both men, through their attorneys, pleaded not guilty and were remanded until March 29.
