The Biggest clash dancehall has ever seen in decades
It was written as the biggest dancehall clash to be seen in Sting history, through the months of November / december, dancehall rave of the moment, Adidja palmer AKA Vybz Kartel and the poor people's governor Rodney basil price AKA Bounty killer had been at each others throat, counteraction after counteraction, Sting spokesman Laing did nothing to calm the tensions
This was billed as another father against the son clash Reminiscent of the early 90s clach between Ninjaman and Supercat, as December 26th approached, dancehall patrons, fans from overseas had already travelled into Kingston for the big night, tickets had sold out by the 23rd, even VIP tickets were gone, many fans complained they could not be part of what they believed was dancehall history in the making
Ninjaman had just been freed on bail as part of the murder enquiries, in his trademark style, commented that although he was not performing, he was asked to be the referee for the big clash, somebody a dead ah sting!!!!
The clash also saw foreign media participation at an all time high, BBC 1 xtra were taking it live, media crew from Japan, Hot 97 were doing a live broadcast, press men, jamaican MPs tried in vain to cancel sting or at least the clash as there were rumours of gang violence if either camp lost
The days leading up to Sting, jamaican public seemed to be divided especially in Kingston, all street dances, big selectors clearly took sides, they fuelled the on-going battle by playing big Bounty killer tunes from his ever large catalogue, Video footage was showed at Weddy Weddy of the earlier Bounty / beenie clash, Some gaza fans were rumoured to have fired a few shots to scare the patrons
The big day arrived, after all the war of words, counteraction, dissing, as early as 3PM on Boxing day, Jamworld was nearly full, you had to reach early Laing said in the run up, Up to a million subscribers, mainly from overseas had paid 15 US dollars to watch Sting online, jamworld productions were already smiling to the bank before a shot had been fired
By 6Pm, the press were set up, Live studio crews were doing soundchecks, Tons of Gaza fans made a big entry wearing Vybz kartel tops, Alliance supporters were there en masse, jamaican defence force, Police and undercover agents were already in the crowd, they had been issued with a shoot to kill order if any weapons were drawn from the patrons
BY 9PM, the police had set up roadblocks towards Portmore, no-one was allowed as sting was sold out, only Artists and entourage were allowed in the VIP parking lot, some angry patrons with tickets started a scene and started stoning the police who had to reply with teargas and rubber bullets fired in the air
There were so many dissapointed fans who had travelled from far, they had to sit in their cars and listen to live broadcast from irie FM
Inside the venue the warm up Djs specially flown from Japan, Mighty crown with Simon on the Mic did nothing to ease the building tensions, some body a go dead inna in his trademark Jamaican patois!!!!
He then proceeded to play some hits from both Artists, when he dropped Bounty killers classic on the Stalag riddim
''Boy now ya dead and inna bush you a smell Hey ya run inna me gun and me sen ya to hell Rise against me gun inna minute ya fell Get bullet inna ya head, nyam out ya brain cell well See me an me gun and ya go tek me for a pearch Now ya dead and all ya head de a dirt Meh 45 inna concert, hey me tell a boy''
It seemed Jamaica was on fire, lights and torches could be seen as far as Port Antonio to Negril, Montego bay, Brixton in London, flatbush in Brookyln, even Gaza fans could not help but appreciate one of dancehall favourite sons
Sammy T decided to play Vybz kartel Real bad man on the cool fusion riddim, the response was not as great as the earlier track.
Meanwhile Vybz kartel crew drove backstage, when Nuffy the MC announced his arrival, the gaza fans were up in arms, screaming their heads off, back stage was a beeline of activity, bottles of hennessy were imported from NYC, Champagne and cristal
Bounty killer posse came in 15 Custom made SUV trucks, when fans saw the motorcade, loud screams were let out, some fans started firing guns in the air as a mark of respect for the war lord, on stage Bounty arrival was announced, i could not describe the feeling, meanwhile Vybz kartel crew were protesting the crowd were biased, Vybz a bit nervous now asked for hennesy and coke, a crew poured 3/4 hennessy and a drop a coke, Vybz complained the drink was not strong enough, His side kick Jeffrey said, ''Whappen Adidja you nervous???
Artists after artists put up a good performance, everyone had to be a their best, there was another mini clash between Kiprich and the monster hempire, Kiprich killed tham as usual with A 3 minute lyrical masterpiece
Then came the moment everyone was waiting for, 4:30 AM to be precise, Vybz emerged wearing an All white Navy uniform, gaza fans went crazy, he started some war tunes and the crowd went crazy, tonight no gaza or Alliance fans it seemed, just dancehall fans, kartel was delivering lyrics after lyrics, Just when he thought Bounty had chickened out, a loud usual cry went '' Peopleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eee Deadddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd'' I could not describe the scenes, it looked like a war movie scene, It looked like an earth quake had struck Jamaica, Even Beenie man was impressed, he could be heard telling a friend,''Bwoy kartel dead'' Bounty emerged wearing the same outfit he had when he clashed Beenie in 1993, that made things worse for Kartel, he did not expect Bounty had it in him for the next 5 Minutes, Bounty looked like a possessed Animal, someone had awoken the Lion, he tore into Kartel, counteraction after counter action, he drew on his vast catalogue of war tunes from 1990-1993 when he was at his lyrical best, Kartel for a minute ran out of lyrics, his crew standing in the corner were nervous, Sting crowd was going for every Bounty tune, kartel attempted to punch Bounty but the Police were ready and the bodyguards seperated them, he was heard complaining it was an ''Ambush'' from the war lord
Bounty asked for the showtime Riddim, his favourite war riddim and the rest was history, i cant really explained what happened, you had to be there, Vybz stormed off stage along with his entourage, fans carried Bounty sky high, this was Bounty at his best, Some people claimed it was the best Sting performance in years, Vybz was interviewed at the post clash and said, he was suprised Bounty still had it in him, he wished Bounty well and said it was a victory for dancehall music, no violence, just lyrical war
Can this or will this happen??? i guess you have to be there, hope you enjoyed this!!!!!
