Traffic cops seize 23 vehicles

Twenty-three vehicles were seized for breaches of the Road Traffic Act during an operation carried out by a police/military team in Westmoreland on Friday.

Information received by the Constabulary Communication Network is that between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., the team - comprising members of the Traffic Headquarters in Kingston, the Area One Police, the Island Special Constabulary and the Jamaica Defence forces - conducted a special operation along several roads within the parish.

During the exercise, approximately 1,000 vehicles were stopped and searched. The defective registration plates of 134 of the vehicles were removed while 500 tickets were issued and 23 vehicles seized for breaches of the Road Traffic Act.

The police reported that the operations, which are measures taken to help reduce the number of road fatalities, will be ongoing and are also imploring motorists to adhere to the Road Traffic Act at all times.
