Icilda Mattis, a 49-year-old businesswoman of Mount Industry, Glengoffe, St Catherine was shot dead by gunmen at her business place in the community on Saturday night.
A 56-year-old family member was shot and injured during the incident.
Reports received by the CCN are that about 8:40 p.m., Mrs Mattis otherwise called 'Valrie' closed an office at her business and was walking with a family member to another section when they were held up at gunpoint by the gunmen who demanded money. The family member handed over an undetermined sum to the gunmen who opened fire hitting Mrs Mattis. She died on the spot.
The 56-year-old family member rushed to her assistance and was shot by the hoodlums. The gunmen were challenged by a licensed firearm holder but escaped. The police were called and the injured family member who was taken to hospital was admitted in stable condition.
The St Catherine North Homicide Unit is investigating.
