The Ministry ofHealth (MoH) is urging persons to take the necessary precautions in protecting themselves from the influenza A (H1N1), also known as the swine flu virus, although no new cases has been reported.
The MoH mentioned that its heightened surveillance systems was able to quickly identify two imported cases of the virus in Jamaica. Both cases of the virus were imported to Jamaica by two persons who had travelled to the United States.

According to the MoH, all public health facilities are equipped with the items necessary to assist the public. Also all health regions have been placed on high alert.
The MoH is reminding the public to avoid persons with flu-like symptoms, cover their noses and mouths when sneezing or coughing and to wash hands with soap and water frequently.
