A mother was shot dead and her six-year-old daughter shot and injured when gunmen opened fire on them at a market in Clarendon, police say.
Dead is Marjorie Anderson, 35, of Palmers Cross, May Pen, Clarendon, while her daughter had been admitted to hospital in serious but stable condition.
The incident occurred at the May Pen Market in the parish on Saturday evening.
Police say about 8:15 p.m., Anderson and the little girl were among persons watching games at a gaming table in a section of the market.
They were approached by gunmen who opened fire hitting both of them. They were taken to hospital where Anderson was pronounced dead and the child admitted.
The May Pen CIB, which is investigating, has not identified any suspect in connection with the incident. Neither has a motive been established.
