Police from the St Andrew North division yesterday confirmed reports that thugs had broken into Television Jamaica's (TVJ) Coopers Hill transmitter facility and stolen petrol and piece of equipment necessary for the functioning of the plant.
A police source said the incident took place about 3 a.m., when the hoodlums gained entry to the unsecured facility and carried out their criminal act.

Further details reaching the newspaper are that residents served by Channel 7 have not been able to view TVJ since the theft yesterday morning.
Attempts to get a comment from the RJR Communications Group were unsuccessful. The newspaper was informed that engineers were assessing the extent of the damage. Further notices regarding the restoration of service to the affected areas will follow this assessment.
