Arsenal's reserves back in action for League Cup

Maintaining concentration shouldn't be too big a problem for Arsenal following their Premier League win at Chelsea, with almost an entirely different team set to take on Burnley in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Manager Arsene Wenger is sticking with his long-held policy of using the second-tier club competition to give experience to reserves and youth players, so only substitutes from Sunday's 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge are likely to make it on to the field today.

"It will be the usual team for us," Wenger said. "But then with all the players we have out it may be even younger than before."

Top pick

Although defender Mikael Silvestre and striker Nicklas Bendtner have plenty of first-team experience, Burnley will be taking on the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Jack Wilshere, Kieran Gibbs, Mark Randall and Jay Simpson.

Emmanuel Adebayor, Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie will be sitting out, but Burnley could be forgiven for approaching the match with trepidation after the Gunners' second-string team of youngsters routed Wigan 3-0 in the last round.

But League Championship promotion contenders Burnley managed to draw 1-1 at Chelsea in the last round and beat last year's runner-up in a penalty shootout.

"Going away to somewhere as massive as Chelsea was a great experience," Burnley striker Martin Paterson said. "But we weren't there to enjoy it and to rub shoulders with them, we were there to beat them, and it will be the same tomorrow.

"We're not there to take people's shirts and be glad to have played against them. We are aiming to get into the semi-finals."
