The music-producing bug has bitten former 100-metre world record holder Asafa Powell.
Powell has produced a song called Trod It for upcoming reggae group Konscious, finalists in the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall contest earlier this year.
The rhythm for the song was made by producer Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor, while the production work was done by Powell.
First time producing
This was Powell's first time producing professionally and he enjoyed it.
"Honestly, it was fun because it was my first time doing this and to be in a studio with the 'Genius' (Stephen McGregor) was a good thing because he is really a genius," Powell told The STAR.
Glenroy 'Ras Solo' Barrett of Konscious said he also liked the experience.
"It was all good. We are friends from back then," he said. "But sometimes when he is training we hardly see him."
Powell said he was driven to produce the song because it was positive. In addition, he was acquainted with Barrett while growing up in Ewarton.
But music is nothing new to the sporting star. Powell said he has always been interested in music.
"My brother is a music teacher and my parents are pastors so I used to have to learn so I could play (musical instruments) in church when my brother Nigel (Powell) was not around. He is also helping me with the group. My brother taught me how to play so I can do a thing," said Powell.
However, Powell says he has no plans to become a recording artiste.
"No way," he said. "I will continue on the running track, no singing for me."
Powell said he has no immediate plans to do more producing, but said that it is something he is looking forward to doing in the future.
