Laws that let family help out in suicide

THE law on assisted suicide differs dramatically between Switzerland and Britain.
Killing someone in Switzerland does not mean a murder charge, unless there was a selfish motive.

Aiding a suicide bid for reprehensible reasons carries a five-year jail term.

But in Britain, the maximum sentence for assisting a death is 14 years.

The family of Dr Anne Turner, 66, were quizzed in Bath after she took lethal drugs at Dignitas in 2006.

Valere Sliwinskis son Stefan had his house raided by cops after taking her there the same year. Valere, 58, of Clacton, Essex, had cancer and multiple sclerosis.

Bob Stokes, 59, and wife Jenny, 53, of Leighton Buzzard, Beds, died at Dignitas in 2003, but it was claimed they were not terminally ill.
