AMERICAN WORLD Championships 200m silver medallist Wallace Spearmon could switch his training base to Jamaica for the upcoming season.

Spearmon, who won silver and bronze at the 2005 and 2007 World Championships respectively, is thinking about joining the high-profile MVP Track Club under the guidance of head coach Stephen Francis.

Ray Flynn, Spearmon's manager, speaking to The Gleaner from the United States, said he "cannot confirm" his client would join the group, but said it was an option.

"I think he is looking at different options, but I don't think he has made up his mind yet," explained Flynn, who further added, "Jamaica is one of the options". MVP Track Club athletes had tremendous success at the recent Beijing Olympics winning two gold and three silver individual medals. Shelly-Ann Fraser, who became the first Jamaican woman to win an Olympic 100m title and Melaine Walker, the 400m hurdles winner, topped the list while Shericka Williams (400m), Sherone Simpson (100m) and Great Britain's Germaine Mason (high jump) won silver medals.

Confirmation

MVP's top male sprinter, Asafa Powell, the world's second fastest man, anchored Jamaica's 4x100m, which included two other of his clubmates - Michael Frater and Nester Carter, to a world record 37.10 seconds. Williams was also a part of Jamaica's 4x400m, which pocketed bronze.

Bruce James, president of MVP, confirmed that Spearmon had indicated an interest in joining the UTech-based club.

A number of athletes have contacted the group ... he (Spearmon) is one of the persons, but nothing has been confirmed on his side or ours," James told The Gleaner.
