A 70-year-old man is now before the courts for allegedly having sex with a 12-year-old girl.
The Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) said the accused man who is partially deaf and who operates a bar was arrested and charged two weeks ago after the complainant's parent made a report to the police.
CISOCA reported that in February earlier this year, the complainant was left alone at home during which time the accused man convinced her to go home with him where he allegedly had sex with her.
Further reports are that the girl's parent filed a missing person's report after their daughter had not returned home after two days.
After returning home, the girl admitted to her parents that she had gone to the man's house, after which the police were called in and the man picked up after subsequent investigations.
Meanwhile, the man appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court last week and denied the allegations against him.
He was offered $50,000 bail and is booked to return to court on September 5.
