PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A 21-year-old Palatka man was rushed to an area hospital after Putnam County Sheriff's Office detectives said he was shot in the case of an apparent "lover's triangle." Deputies said Tarvaris Wesley was shot Thursday night by his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend, Kelvis Bellamy, at the Mellon Manor Apartments in the 3700 block of St. Johns Avenue just outside the city limits of Palatka. Investigators said Wesley and his new girlfriend, 25-year-old Jakita Poole, were lying in bed with Pooles 7-month-old child when Bellamy, the father of Poole's three children, kicked out the bedroom window and climbed into the apartment.
Poole ran from the room and Bellamy went after Wesley. Bellamy shot Wesley at least once, deputies said. Bellamy was flown by air ambulance to Shands-UF Medical Center, where he was in critical condition. According to the sheriff's office, Poole's other two children were present in another part of the home when the shooting took place. The lead investigator in the case, Detective Ken Taylor, was expected to confer with the state attorneys office to get a warrant for the arrest of Bellamy. The sheriff's office asks anyone with information on Bellamy's whereabouts or on the shooting is asked to contact either Taylor at 386-329-0415 or Crimestoppers at 888-277-8477 .
