A TWO-year-old boy was left home alone for a weekend after a woman went out to party, a court heard yesterday.

Police found the crying toddler trapped in a kitchen with an overflowing sink after neighbours raised the alarm.

He had been penned in by a baby gate and was dirty, partially dressed, shaking and cold, standing in two inches of water the court heard.

Kelly Tollerton, 22, claimed another woman was looking after the toddler when tracked down by officers at her boyfriends home.

Lincoln Crown Court was told it was a deliberate act of abandonment.

Prosecutor Felicity Gerry said: She abandoned the boy so in her own words she could go out and party. He had been left home alone.

Tollerton, of Lincoln, told officers the child had been left with her friend Emma Barton, who had often cared for him at weekends.

But Miss Barton denied this, saying she fell out with Tollerton several months before after a row over money.

The court heard neighbours were alerted when a flat below became flooded with water.

Patrick Forbes-Ritte said he knocked on the door and got no reply but heard a child crying and saw him through the letterbox.

PC Gary Hugo said the boy was shaking as if he was cold and wore a baby-gro and pants covered in urine and faeces.

He added: The sink was overflowing and running where the boy was standing. There were soiled nappies, broken crockery and plastic bags on the floor.

The boy was handed to social workers. Tollerton denies child abandonment.
