MADRID, Spain (AP) - Deco says he will leave FC Barcelona for an English or Italian team.
The Portugal midfielder said the Catalan club has given his agent permission to seek a move at the end of the season.
"I'm leaving so I can continue winning trophies and having success. I'll be going to England or Italy. I'll go where I want and not where the club tells me," Deco was quoted as saying by sports daily Mundo Deportivo on Friday.
The 30-year-old midfielder said there was no chance of him moving to another Spanish club.
"Here, only Madrid is at Barcelona's level and I'd never join Madrid," the Brazilian-born player said.
Deco joined Barcelona in 2004, after helping FC Porto win the Champions League and the UEFA Cup. With the Catalan club, he won two league titles and the 2006 Champions League.
However, he has been criticized this season and was whistled by Barcelona fans during last weekend's home defeat against Mallorca.
Deco, who has two years of his contract left, said there was no turning back.
"I wouldn't stay at Barcelona now because I've always said that I want to be where I'm wanted. When things change, the best thing is to leave. I have some years left at the top level and I'm going to prove it, not for Barcelona, not for anyone, but for me," he said.
Saying it wouldn't be difficult for Barcelona to find a replacement, Deco suggested Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, Cesc Fabregas of Arsenal or Chelsea's Frank Lampard.
Barcelona, who will replace coach Frank Rijkaard with Pep Guardiola at the end of the season, is also expected to undertake a major clear-out of players with Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto'o among those expected to depart.
The club is reportedly interested in signing Boca Juniors forward Rodrigo Palacio and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, Sevilla midfielder Seydou Keita and Manchester United defender Gerard Pique.
Barcelona, which plays its final game of the season at relegated Murcia on Saturday, will finish either third or fourth, its worst placing since 2003. Barcelona hasn't won a trophy since 2006.
"It isn't easy to start winning again because to set up a great team you need the stability at the club and the dressing room that there was in my first two years," Deco said
