PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC)

West Indies captain Chris Gayle has pointed to increased levels of communication between players as one of the reasons for success during his tenure.

West Indies' victory over Sri Lanka in the second Digicel Test at the Queen's Park Oval on Sunday was Gayle's second Test win in four matches in charge and he also inspired the regional side to a 2-1 win in a one-day international series in England last year.

"To be honest, communication with each other is very good. The guys are really rallying around each other and pointing out areas where we need to work on," Gayle said.

"When someone slips you have to let them know. The guys have been enjoying the cricket more. Once you are enjoying the game, you should be able to get better results."

After losing the first Test against Sri Lanka by 121 runs, West Indies bounced back to win the second by six wickets to earn a 1-1 series tie.

When the match was over, the West Indies players walked off the field exchanging handshakes and hugs with scores of fans who had come onto the ground and Gayle said he was hoping for a better turnout for the three-match one-day international series.

"It's good to see a smile on the faces of the supporters. We are trying to give our fans what they need - victories," Gayle said.

"After pulling off this one, I am sure they are at ease. It is good for them to have something to comment on.

"We are looking forward to the one-day games and to get even more support in the stands."
