Clarendon College whips Cornwall in nail-biting match

Clarendon College whips Cornwall in nail-biting match

When Clarendon College and Cornwall College met in the first round of TVJ's Schools' Challenge Quiz on Tuesday, it was a tension-filled, nail-biting match.
But in the end Clarendon College walked away with the win, scoring 26 points to Cornwall's 15.
The intense match began from section one when Cornwall established a three point lead, ending with nine points to Clarendon's six.
Section two was the segment where things turned around for the Clarendon team. After the first minute, Cornwall continued to maintain its lead scoring 11 points to Clarendon's eight. But in minute two Clarendon sailed past Cornwall. The third minute was equally intense with both teams scoring several points, Clarendon ending with 21 points, while Cornwall had 19.
Equally intense
As the buzzer section was about to begin, Clarendon's score was adjusted to 22 points due to a scoring error.
The section was equally intense with both teams gaining and losing valuable points. At the end of the round and the match, Clarendon was on 26 points while Cornwall had 19.
However, Cornwall's score was later reduced to 15 points after the judges ruled that one of the answers given for a mathematics question was unacceptable.
Orlando Dixon, captain of the Cornwall team admitted that his team did not execute the game plan. "We really did not do our best and that could have made the difference," he said.
He noted, however, that they were in the process of grooming a new team for next year and so he expected a better performance.
Carlene Plummer, one of the coaches for the Clarendon team, was pleased. "I am happy for the victory despite the scores. I must commend the boys because it was somewhat a challenging match and I must commend the Cornwall team for giving us a fight," she said.
Kevin Ellis, the team's other coach, said he would be focusing on getting the team better prepared psychologically for the next match.
Members of the Clarendon College: Reneil Allen (captain), Andre Green, Kedon Clarke and Aldean Ellis
Members of the Cornwall College: Orlando Dixon (captain), Rory Hinds, Darren Morand and McGuiver Clayton.
