ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Firefighters concerned that an elderly woman was trapped inside a mobile home consumed by flames Tuesday morning later learned she was not home at the time. Once the flames were out, St. Johns County firefighters searched the remains of the home on Quail Drive, just off Lewis Speedway, but found no one inside. They later learned the homeowner was out with her daughter when the fire broke out.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation, but it rapidly grew into a major blaze when one or more oxygen tanks inside exploded. Firefighters said the mobile home was a total loss.
