MARK HUGHES hopes Benni McCarthys new Blackburn contract will help warn top clubs off David Bentley.
The striker was a target last summer but stayed put and has been rewarded with a new three-year deal worth around £40,000 a week.
This close season it is likely to be England ace Bentley who attracts interest from Chelsea and Liverpool.
But Hughes said: If we feel that letting a player go weakens us, we dont let them go.
Benni was a case in point and we wanted him to stay.
This year we dont have to sell David Bentley. We arent looking to sell him and thats it.
