"Whaapen to dem?" - is the question on many lips these days as news of the intended cut down of the regular and internationally popular weekly "ghetto based" dances surfaced in Jamaica.
Reports uncover that the 'powers that be', including Enforcement and The Mayor have been putting serious thought into cutting down the traditional weekly happenings to maybe twice monthly.
The idea of cutting down these dances has members of both communities not only disappointed, but angry. Not only are these parties, that folk look forward to as relaxation and entertainment, an integral part of a growing global dancehall culture, they also serve as a major source of income for a huge sector of the Jamaican society.
Incident free since their inception, both sessions have reputations of bringing all people together in unity and love. Passa Passa even tours the world in the same context of love and harmony.
How can peace and love be wrong? So the people keep asking Whaapen to dem?
