In a joint legal action; Microsoft, Corel, Adobe have announced that their legal departments will begin action against the popular file-hosting services, Rapidshare.de / Rapidshare.com et al. Microsoft, Corel, Adobe as the rights holder of products marketed under their names intend to force Rapidshare.de / Rapidshare.com et al from permitting the downloading of infringing software from its servers, or face the prospect of being shut down.
For its part, Rapidshare insists that it cannot be held responsible for these actions, such as when users upload copyright works to their servers for subsequent downloading by others.
The anti-piracy and industry bodies have stated that it's possible for file-hosting services to monitor, police and filter copyright works from their servers.
