Is there a crackdown on dancehall artistes in progress?
That's what industry insiders are asking given all the foreboding signs taking place in recent weeks. The constant raids on places of entertainment, coupled with the high profile recent arrests of Sheldon 'Aidonia' Lawrence and Ryan 'Bascom X' Sudlow on gun-related charges has hurt dancehall's image.
Now, a statement from Operation Kingfish yesterday suggested that the crimefighters were in possession of what they described as a 'very disturbing photograph' with Adidjah 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer and Sheldon 'Aidonia' Lawrence allegedly posing with high powered weapons.
Spokesman for Operation Kingfish Inspector Steve Brown says the police want to interview the men in the presence of their lawyers and commence investigations into the matter.
Contacted today, Vybz Kartel's publicity team said that the entertainer's lawyer had already been in touch with the Operation Kingfish personnel to set up a date for the interview. Yesterday, Vybz Kartel was freed of the charges of indecent language used at a stage show in Ocho Rios in January.
