A 14-YEAR-OLD girl was one of five people arrested after a man was murdered in an incident in a quiet suburban street.
The teenager is being held in police custody following the death of a man aged around 40-years-old.
He collapsed with serious injuries in the front garden of a semi-detached house in Mitcham, South London, at 7.10pm yesterday.
The man, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police were called by a member of the public to reports of a disturbance outside the property.
A woman suffering minor injuries and shock was taken to St Heliers Hospital, Surrey. She is in a stable condition.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: We believe we know his identity but await confirmation that all next of kin has been informed. He has yet to be formally identified.
A post mortem was due to be carried out on the victim later today.
Police confirmed five people were arrested in connection with the incident and remain in custody.
They are four females, including one woman aged in her 60s, a 14-year-old girl and two others whose ages have not been revealed.
They were arrested at the scene and were taken to various south London police stations.
Police said a man aged in his late 30s voluntarily attended a south London police station, and was arrested in connection with the murder.
Scotland Yard added: We are appealing for anyone who witnessed the disturbance in Rutter Gardens, Mitcham, around 7.10pm on Sunday evening, to contact police.
We retain an open mind regarding motive at this stage.
