A recent story carried about the University of the West Indies administration putting pressure on the promoters of Spectrum to have Vybz Kartel and Spice removed from the concert line up because of concerns, seems to have struck a nerve with the deejay and members of his team.
In an exclusive interview with the 876radio.com the deejay's right hand man Jeffrey Hype who appeared very perturbed at the time of our visit, said the information that is being feed to the public is totally false. He admits that some interest was shown initially by the promoters to have Kartel on the roster, but no official request was made and so it's not possible for the administration to drop him from the line up if he was not booked for the event.
Hype said the only persons from the camp they received a request for was upcoming deejay Black Ryno and just wants to set the record straight that the 'Teacha' was never booked for the event and therefore such a statement is not valid.
Dancehall insiders are speculating that if Kartel was omitted from the line up because of constant bad press and other concerns, then how does one explain the current line up, which features the likes of; Mavado, Busy Signal, Jah Cure, Black Ryno, Sizzla and many others, most of whom have all had runnings with the law.
In closing Hype said regarding the omission of the deejay's videos by a particular local cable station, he has no grouse with them "Mi respect dem same way .. whether dem play the deejay video or not".
