In a private meeting held earlier today, the promoters of the greatest one night show on earth, STING issued several warnings to artistes, vendor and patrons slated to participate in the event.
The promoters who were obviously in a no nonsense mode, said that this year staging of the event will have the highest security details the event has ever seen.
According to Howard 'Big Mac' McIntosh "We are trying to stick to the theme which is 'Promoting Unity in the Music' and therefore we are adapting a zero tolerance policy towards violence amongst the artiste and patrons this year". He went on to outline a number of rules and regulations that will be implemented and must be adhered to by everyone in attendance, that includes the artiste as well.
Here are a few:
1. Every single solitary soul, entering the venue will be searched regardless of their status including the promoters
2. No weapons will be allowed at the event unless special permission is granted and that has to be applied for and approved before the event date.
3. No Illegal contraband (including weed), Firearms or other dangerous projectiles will be allowed in the venue
4. No Fire cracker, or other forms of fireworks (including aerosol cans) will be allowed if found or caught they will be seized, as for the fire cracker that is deemed illegal under the Jamaican law and patrons found with this item will be prosecuted.
5. All legal firearms holders should leave them at home or leave it for safe keeping at the hundred man police station in Portmore or a Police station of their choice, otherwise if found the holder will not be allowed entry into the event.
6. Patrons will not have access to any bottles, as all drinks will be served in plastic cups even water.
7. No entourage will be allowed on stage, during the artiste performance and all acts will be limited to 30 minutes maximum
8. Only accredited press houses with valid identification will have access to the backstage, and any member of the press who is granted access to backstage and found not to be working will be removed by the security detail.
9. Police personnel both in and out of uniform will be strategically placed throughout the crowd to monitor patrons activities.
10. Any artiste that arrives late and miss their time slot will NOT be allowed to perform again unless the issues were due to hiccups with the show (eg. band change or a shift in the artiste line-up)
These are just a few from the long list, but as you can see some drastic changes have been implemented all in the name of trying to maintain peace and making the event a safe one for all. Here is a look at the line up for this year. (see poster below).
In closing we would just like to let all our avid listeners and readers know, that 876radio.com will be at the event bringing you the exclusives as they break.

Those rules should have been applied years ago. I guess all those years before the promoters were fine with guns at their show.
