PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) - Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Marlon Samuels featured in an exhilarating century partnership to inspire West Indies to a series-winning victory over Sri Lanka in the second Digicel One-Day International at the Queen's Park Oval yesterday.
With the home team under pressure at 18 for three chasing a target of 125 in 25 overs, Chanderpaul and Samuels tore into the bowling as West Indies won a rain-affected match by seven wickets with 4.3 overs remaining under the Duckworth/Lewis method.

Sri Lanka, sent in, made 112-5 in 30.3 overs before rain interrupted for the second time in the match to force a three-hour delay and a revised West Indies' target.
The unbroken fourth-wicket partnership of 107 in 14.4 overs between Chanderpaul and Samuels carried West Indies to victory for the loss of three wickets in 20.3 overs before a sell-out crowd of more than 18,000.
The left-handed Chanderpaul sustained his rich form with a commanding unbeaten 52 from 42 balls and Samuels put a recent lean period behind him to blast undefeated 54 off 49 balls.
It was West Indies' second successive victory - following their exciting one-wicket win off the final ball two days earlier - and it gave them an unassailable 2-0 series lead before the final match on Tuesday.
West Indies' early problems were caused by fastbowler Nuwan Kulasekara, who claimed three wickets in a telling new-ball burst in which he removed Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Ramnaresh Sarwan.
Bravo, used in a role of make-shift opener, was bowled for two by a ball that cut back and Gayle, who tried to be aggressive, followed soon for 11 when he gave a catch to mid-on.
A fired up Kulasekara trapped Sarwan lbw for one to give Sri Lanka a chance, but Chanderpaul and Samuels counter-attacked to quickly take the match out of the tourists' grasp.
Chanderpaul was devastating when he lashed medium-pacer Kaushalya Weeraratne through the on-side for four, six and four in successive balls, while Samuels also joined the action.
Man-of-the-Match Chanderpaul was the first to arrive at his half-century - that followed his unbeaten 62 in the first match - and his knock contained thee fours and two sixes.
Samuels also reached the landmark just before victory was attained and his first major score of the season included three sixes and three fours.
West Indies started their run-chase at 4:00 pm following a lengthy delay because of rain that first stopped play after 24.1 overs when Sri Lanka were 83-2 after they were put in.
Sri Lanka suffered a small slump on resumption, slipping from 105-2 on 112-5.
They were given an opening stand of 38 in 8.3 overs between Upul Tharanga and Mahela Udawatte and it was followed by a second-wicket stand of 40 in 14 overs between Tharanga and Kumar Sangakkara.
Sri Lanka, however, were kept in check against the steady bowling of Jerome Taylor, Daren Powell and Dwayne Bravo.
Taylor struck first *lo** to remove Udawatte to a catch at point by Sewnarine Chattergoon after the ball was in the air for a long time.
Tharanga made 40 off 82 balls with five fours, but was slowed down as he went on and it led to a drop in the scoring rate. He fell just before the first shower when Taylor held a good catch at third-man off Bravo.
After the resumption, Sangakkara, who did not flow during his 28 off 51 balls, gave a catch to short fine-leg when he attempted to sweep a full-toss from off-spinner Gayle.
Weeraratne, sent in as a pinch-hitter at No 4, got to 15 off 20 balls before giving a catch to backward point from a square-drive off seamer Darren Sammy.
Gayle sustained the pressure with his second wicket by bowling Chamara Silva with a ball of full length just as the rain came again.
The teams travel to St Lucia today ahead of their day/night match at the Beausejour Stadium on Tuesday.

Sir Alex Ferguson reckons Manchester United already have enough quality to dominate in England - but that will not stop him splashing the cash.Ferguson's side host Arsenal on Sunday looking to extend their advantage over the Gunners to nine points and move six points clear of Chelsea, who host Wigan on Monday night.
The Red Devils' impressive season has been put down, by some, to their strength and depth among the squad.
The Scot brought in Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson and Carlos Tevez last summer, with the quartet all playing a key part in United's charge to retain their Premier League crown.
And Ferguson has confirmed that he will be out to reinforce his side further when the transfer window reopens.
"I don't need to spend, but I will," he said. "I think there is an area where we are short and we can stock up on that a bit.
"It is not easy getting the best players here. But we have to because when you have a lot of quality in your squad you have to be absolutely correct on who you bring in.
"A player has a chance to come to a club like United and he would say 'that's my challenge to be in the team.'
"That's what good payers do. I don't think I will bring in as many as last season and if we buy players it will probably be young ones.
"Having a strong squad has helped Chelsea and us this season. Last season, we just didn't have enough.
"This year Tevez, Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson have been really fantastic for us.
"Those four players have made a big contribution to our season."

Only one thing can keep Arsenal in contention for a trophy this season - a victory at Manchester United on Sunday.
After exiting the Champions League to Liverpool on Tuesday, the Gunners need to win at Old Trafford against the Premier League leader if they are to have any realistic chance of wresting the title from United's grip.
But Arsenal have already lost 4-0 at United in the FA Cup this season and needed a last-minute equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium in November's previous Premier League .
With morale low after a five-point lead turned into a six-point deficit in less than two months, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger faces one of his toughest ever tasks when he tries to make his players believe they can win.
"He will talk about that for sure,'' Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor said. ''We will meet in the dressing room and he will tell us what to do.
"He has more experience than anyone here, and he knows the words to use so that we can come back on the pitch, be more successful, and want it more.''
But that reliance on Wenger, who has won three Premier League titles and four FA Cups in 11 years at Arsenal, because of a lack of experience on the field could be what costs Arsenal a shot at success this season.
Wenger has spurned the chance to spend the club's reserves of cash on new players, preferring to rely upon the young talent he has brought through the youth teams.
The move paid dividends for the first six months of the season as the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Adebayor produced some of the most vibrant and penetrating football of the Premier League's 16-year history.
Unbeaten in the league until December, Arsenal's season disintegrated following a pair of cup defeats to two of their fiercest rivals.
Tottenham routed Arsenal 5-1 in a League Cup semi-final in January and United then beat the Gunners 4-0 in the FA Cup less than a month later.
Wenger's decision to field weakened teams in both matches seemed to have backfired because of the hit taken by the squad's confidence. Arsenal, who have not won the league since their unbeaten season of 2003-04, have won just two of their next 11 matches - a run that culminated with Tuesday's loss at Anfield.
"We were so close to the Champions League semi-finals but football decided it the other way,'' Adebayor said. ''As a player, these things are very difficult to take. We scored, it was 2-2 with only a few minutes to go and I do not know how they managed to get a penalty.
"You can imagine it ... within seven minutes we were in the semi-final. Then that all went away.''
And Arsenal's chances looked even slimmer Thursday when key midfielder Mathieu Flamini was ruled out for three weeks because of an ankle injury he sustained against Liverpool.
United, meanwhile, is flying after beating AS Roma 1-0 on Wednesday to reach the Champions League semi-finals.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney should be fresh after being rested against the Italian league title contender, and United got another boost when captain Gary Neville came on as a late substitute after more than a year out injured.
"Missing the end of last season was bad,'' Neville said. ''So it's good to be back to help the team now. People kept asking me when I was coming back and it was a bit embarra**ing.
"I'd try and give them a date and then it wouldn't materialise. But the fans have always supported me.''
Victory is just as important for United since Chelsea are only three points back in second place and host lowly Wigan on Monday.
Arsène Wenger intends to add just one experienced player in the summer.
The Arsenal manager is famously frugal in the transfer market and has rarely splashed out on big names. In the off-season last year he bought Bacary Sagna, Eduardo and Lukasz Fabianski - all worthwhile acquisitions but perhaps not star attractions.
However the likes of Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg went out of the Emirates Stadium exit. This summer, the manager intends to stick with his established spending pattern.
"We will continue to do what we've done," said Wenger at his pre-match press conference. "I will buy but not too much in the summer. My priority is to keep this team together because we are still young, especially in some departments of the team.
"If we can add one player we will do it, not one in each department just one experienced player."
Promoters and sound- system operators in western Jamaica will be required to play a new tune if they intend to survive in the entertainment business as the Area One Police High Command, with immediate effect, will enforce the Noise Abatement Act of 1997.
At a meeting at Freeport Police Station, in Montego Bay, on Thursday, St James' commanding officer, Superintendent Steve McGregor, and Area One divisional commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake, told some 30 sound-system operators, promoters and owners of entertainment venues, that the flexibility they previously enjoyed would be curtailed.
Zero tolerance approach
"We know it is the cultural norm for people to go out to parties at 2:00 a.m., which under the law is supposed to be the cut-off time," said Superintendent McGregor, who initiated the meeting to apprise stakeholders in the entertainment industry of the new zero-tolerance approach.
"As of now, we will be enforcing the requirement that states that events during the week should end at mid-night and those on the weekend should end at 2:00 a.m.," said Superintendent McGregor. "Don't let anybody tell you that every thing criss. A we run here yasso. If you breach the regulation, you will have to face the consequences."
In looking at the current situation, Superintendent McGregor pointed out the following flaws:
Music is being played beyond the cut-off times (12:00 midnight during the week and 2:00 a.m. on weekends). Music causing a nuisance to the public. Musical events being kept in the street impeding vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Use of firearm at these events, resulting in injury or death to patrons. Use of drugs at these musical event. Traffic concerns improper parking which creates congestion. Breach of the NSWMA improper disposal of garbage. Abstraction of electricity illegally Expression of lewd lyrics by disc jockey. Attendance of children at these musical events. While expressing a general understanding of the position taken by the police, some promoters said the prompt enforcement was too harsh, especially with regard to major pre-planned event. In fact, prominent Montego Bay promoter, Sonny Ranking, suggested that the new enforcement should be phased in gradually."This could result in great financial loss to promoters who have invested large sums of money in some of the events that are already planned," said Ranking. Phased-in with events"Those events already planned show be allowed to continue under the previous arrangement and the new situation phased in with the events to come in the future."However, ACP Blake made it clear that the police would be enforcing the law and to back up their position, no police officer would be detailed to provide security beyond the legal cut-off period. He suggested that promoters seek to start their events earlier so that they could meet the cut-off time."There are no regulations to prevent you from starting an event at 6:00 p.m. So, you need to get creative and start your events early so that you can finish on time," said ACP Blake. "If you want the law to change, you will have to form yourselves into an organisation and lobby for that."McGregor, who said he regularly authorised as much as 50 applications for entertainment events in St James per week, said he was rethinking granting permission for some events on weekdays because of the reluctance of some promoters to operate within the law.People taking beds"There are some events that should cut off at 2:00 a.m., which go until even after 8:00 a.m.," said McGregor. "There is now a new phenomenon, where you have people taking beds into the street for some of the dances they are now doing."In response to one promoter, who noted that when the events went on until daybreak, it created a kind of safety net for persons, especially women, who otherwise would have to return to their homes during the hours of darkness, Blake said the police were obligated to protect the rights of those who were being disturbed by the loud music at all hours of the night."If you can find some places that are not in proximity to structured communities, hospitals, hotels, guest houses, nursing homes, you would be helping the situation," said Blake. "If you are operating in these areas, we don't have to get a complaint to act, we can presume that a noise nuisance is being created and either turn down or turnoff the sound system."In outlining what is expected of the police with regard to entertainment events, McGregor outlined the following obligations, among others: Refusal of application where it is deemed that the music will be a source of nuisance. Refusal of application for venues with a history of violence. Place ban on promoters whose events have caused problems in the past. Refusal of application for venues without entertainment licence. Refuse application if artistes with bad reputation/influence are involved with the event. While not expressing a desire to seize sound systems or prosecute promoters, sound-system operators or owners of venues, McGregor said the police were willing and ready to act.Legal action"Although we would like to make it the last resort, if we have to seize the sound system and take legal action against you, we will," McGregor told entertainment stakeholders. "We have some trucks that we have already designated to do so. If we face any resistance, that could lead to additional actions."Quizzed as to whether the new zero-tolerance approach would impact major events such as 'Reggae Sumfest', the 'Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival' and events along Montego Bay's tourism belt the 'Hip Strip', McGregor said all violators would be treated in the same way, which could include the following: Monitoring of areas to prevent the unauthorised staging of musical events. Monitoring of approved musical events. Locking down of music systems being played beyond the cut-off time. Prosecution of violators. Arrest where desirable. Seizure of equipment if necessary. In light of the new situation, Sonny Ranking said he would be initiating the formation of an umbrella organisation for all promoters and sound-system operators so as to bring uniformity to their operations as well as to create a platform from which to negotiate when there is a need to do so."It would not be in our best interest to get into any confrontation with the police, so, as a body, we will have to sit down and come up with creative ways to protect our livelihood," stated Ranking. "The police have a job to do and we have a livelihood to protect, so we will just have to find a way to work together."While the St James police have taken the lead in this new initiative, of ensuring compliance with the Noise Abatement Act, which has never been treated with universal seriousness, Blake said it formed a part of a drive by Police Commissioner Rear Admiral, Hardley Lewin, and would ultimately be enforced islandwide.Promoters and sound- system operators in western Jamaica will be required to play a new tune if they intend to survive in the entertainment business as the Area One Police High Command, with immediate effect, will enforce the Noise Abatement Act of 1997.

In an exclusive interview with CMC Sport on his recent Caribbean trip, Rogge said the expansive requirements for staging the Olympic Games would place it beyond the reach of Caribbean countries.
"I'll be very candid and very honest ... the demands on a country for the Olympic Games are higher than what your countries could give," said Rogge when asked if the Caribbean could dream of ever staging the Olympic Games.
"And the fundamental question is whether it would be useful for your countries. I think you have other priorities than just wanting to stage the Olympic Games," added Rogge, as he appeared on CMC's CaribVision television show Newsmakers.
Rogge, IOC president since 2001, suggested that establishing the infrastructure alone for competition venues would put too much strain on the region to achieve.
Sports world-class facilities
"You'd need approximately 26 Olympic sports world-class facilities and not all the Olympic sports are practised in your countries, so you would have to build from scratch for many sports."
The International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded the 2007 Cricket World Cup to the West Indies and nine Caribbean countries c****ined to successfully stage the event over seven weeks.
But Rogge thinks the monumental requirements for accommodation, telecommunication and security for the Olympics would seriously challenge the Caribbean's capacity to stage the world's biggest sporting event.
"You would need to have a big hotel capacity of 35,000 persons in the same countries, not scattered between different islands, you would need state of the art telecommunication systems, you would need a huge security force," he said.
In the past, the Caribbean has staged major multi-sport games, like the Pan American Games, staged by Puerto Rico in 1979 and Cuba in 1991.
Jamaica were hosts of the 1966 Commonwealth Games and Rogge suggests that the Caribbean would logically have to settle for some of these lower level events.
"Intermediate games, Pan Ameri-can Games, Youth Olympic Games, these definitely you could do, there's no doubt about that. The Com-monwealth Games maybe as it has grown since 1966, might be a bit difficult but all the other games yes," Rogge said.
New Olympic Centre
Rogge, originally from Belgium, made a speedy trek through several Caribbean countries in mid-March including Barbados, where he opened the new Barbados Olympic Centre.
This week, the 65-year-old Rogge welcomed an early indication from India to bid for the 2020 Olympic Games.
Rogge, who represented Belgium in yachting at the 1968, 1972 and 1976 Olympics, said there will be stiff competition to stage those Games but encouraged the Indians.
He said India "definitely has many assets" but added that winning the prize to stage the Games "is never easy".
The IOC wants all applicants for the 2020 Games to be submitted by 2013.
In the meantime, Rogge's IOC is facing a building crisis surrounding the 2008 Olympic hosts Beijing, China, and its standing on human rights.
China's human rights record took a blow last month when protests in Tibet turned into violence against Chinese rule.

Sri Lanka-112-5 in 30.3 overs
Rain delay play
Ronaldinho has agreed initial terms with Milan according to his agent and the Italian giants.
The 28-year-old Brazilian has struggled for form at the Camp Nou this season and misses the rest of the campaign because of a leg injury.
His agent, and brother, Roberto de Assis, and Milan are now set for further talks with Barcelona. Spanish and Italian reports have speculated that a 20-30million transfer fee could be tabled, with Ronaldinho buying up the rest of his Barca contract.
Manchester City had hoped to pursue a deal for the South American but it would now appear he is on his way to Italy.
"In general, Ronaldinho and Milan are in agreement," de Assis said to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Gazzetta claims a deal until 2012 - worth 8million-a-year - is in the pipeline and will be concluded once a few outstanding clauses are agreed.
But the playmaker may have to wait to make his San Siro debut because the transfer cannot officially go through until the end of the season.
"There is a general agreement with the player. Now a deal has to be reached with Barcelona. Give us time," Milan's chief executive Adriano Galliani said.
Milan are currently fifth in Serie A and in danger of missing next year's Champions League after a poor season and lacklustre performances from strikers Ronaldo, Alberto Gilardino and Kaka.
Shiv's super six lifts West Indies
West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul (left) celebrates as umpire Clyde Duncan (centre) signals a six off the last ball of the match at Queen's Park Oval yesterday. The West Indies beat Sri Lanka by one wicket. Scores: Sri Lanka 235 for seven in 50 overs; West Indies 236 for nine in 50 overs. At right is number 11 batsman Fidel Edwards. - AP
Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit the last two balls for a four and six to swing West Indies to a thrilling one-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the opening one-day international yesterday.
Chanderpaul lashed an unbeaten 62 off 63 balls to guide the home team to 236 for nine off 50 overs at Queen's Park Oval. Sri Lanka made 235 for seven on the back of a career-best 95 from Chamara Kapugedera.
Sri Lanka were on target for victory in the last over when veteran seamer Chaminda Vaas conceded just three runs from the first four balls with West Indies needing 13 runs.
But Chanderpaul fashioned a remarkable finish by smacking a four past mid-off from the penultimate delivery. The 33-year-old then swung a low full toss over midwicket, just clearing Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene on the rope to send a crowd of 13,000 into a frenzy.
''I don't know what to say at this particular time,'' West Indies captain Chris Gayle said. ''There were a few heart failures but Shiv took it home there in the end.''
West Indies' reply began positively through Gayle, who made a gritty 52 off 81 balls.
Gayle shared partnerships of 53 with Devon Smith and 56 with Ramnaresh Sarwan to give his side the initiative at 109-1 in the 27th over.
But debutant spinner Ajantha Mendis and seamer Nuwan Kulasekara turned the match around, taking three wickets for one run.
Mendis, who took three for 39, claimed Gayle to a lbw verdict while Kulasekara removed Sarwan for 35 and Marlon Samuels for a first-ball duck.
Sarwan edged to the wicketkeeper while a leaden-footed Samuels was plainly leg before.
Chanderpaul and Dwayne Bravo revived West Indies in a fifth-wicket stand of 59 off 61 balls.
But Bravo's lively 36 off 25 balls was ended by a run-out and the balance shifted again. Bravo, who earlier took a career-best four for 32, lashed three fours and a six.
Chanderpaul got little assistance after that as Patrick Browne (15) holed out to Tillakaratne Dilshan and Mendis accounted for Darren Sammy and Jerome Taylor.
Kulasekara (three for 43) conceded just four runs off the penultimate over in which West Indies lost their ninth wicket, and Sri Lanka closed in on victory.
Chanderpaul brought up his half century in that over and, with dogged assistance from last man Fidel Edwards, scripted a dramatic ending.
Earlier, Kapugedera and Chamara Silva (67) shared a record sixth-wicket stand of 159 to rebuild the Sri Lankan innings after it slipped to 49-5.
The 21-year-old Kapugedera lashed seven fours and three sixes off 116 balls. Silva smashed seven fours off 96 balls.
Fast bowler Fidel Edwards gave West Indies an excellent start after Gayle sent in the visitors.

Chilean midfielder Pizarro was booked at the end of the first half for felling Ronaldo after some showboating from the Portuguese international.
Pizarro has accused Ronaldo of not showing respect to his opponents and the Roma man expects more tricks from the in-form winger in the return leg at Old Trafford.
"There is no doubt that he has quality, but it is also true that he has a big head," Pizarro told the Italian press.
"Some of his little tricks in the middle of the pitch were unnecessary and he needs to show some respect to his opposition. You can bet that we will have something to say about it in the return leg."
Pizarro admitted he was disappointed by the defeat and vowed Roma will do all they can to overturn the deficit in the second leg.
"We played our game and we are disappointed that we weren't able to make the most of our chances," added Pizarro
"Games are decided by certain moments, but I'd be interested to see how many shots they had.
"It just went badly even though we created plenty and if we had been able to convert our opportunities we wouldn't have lost.
"We still believe in our Scudetto and Champions League chances - this team will never give up."

WORLD sprint champions, Veronica Campbell of Jamaica and the Tyson Gay of the USA will headline the Jamaica International Invitational Track and Field Meet (JIIM) slated for Saturday, May 3, at the National Stadium beginning at 7:00 pm.
Campbell and Gay will compete in the respective female and male 200m at the meet which received International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Area Permit Meet status last year.
This means athletes who compete in the fifth staging can earn points for the World Athletics Final in Stuttgart, Germany, in September.
POWELL... will be noticeably absent from meet |
This year's event will receive a $21 million backing from the Ministry of Sport.
Gay will be joined by World Championships finalists Marvin Anderson, Christopher Williams, as well as Clement Campbell, while the women's 200m field will feature Campbell, World Championships 200m bronze medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe of Sri Lanka, Olympic medallist Aleen Bailey, LaShaunte Moore and NCAA Indoor champion, Bianca Knight.
The men's 100m field will feature 200m World Championships silver medallist Usain Bolt and World Champs bronze medallist Wallace Spearmon, as well as sprint relay gold medallist Darvis Patton - both of the USA - along with former world champion, Kim Collins of St Kitts/Nevis.
World Champs sprint relay silver medallist Kerron Stewart and Taneisha Harrigan will compete in the women's equivalent.
World Championships bronze medallist, Delloreen Ennis-London, along with Vonette Dixon, Lacena Golding-Clarke will line up in the 100m hurdles, while the men's 110m hurdles will boast Jamaicans Maurice Wignall, Decosmo Wright and Richard Phillips.
2005 World Champs silver medallist, Sanya Richards, 2007 World Champs bronze medallist, Jamaican Novelene Williams, and the USA's DeeDee Trotter will compete in the 400m.
On the men's side, Andrew Rock, Ricardo Chambers, Sanjay Ayre, and Michael Blackwood will do battle.
Lashinda Demus, Shevon Stoddart and Michelle Burgher are down for the 400m hurdles, while the men's event will feature world champion Kerron Clement, Isa Phillips, Derrick Williams and Olympic silver medallist, Danny McFarlane.
Kenia Sinclair, Mardrea Hyman, Marion Burnett and Hazel Clark are expected to run in the 800m, while in the field events, Dorian Scott will compete in the shot put and James Beckford and Elva Goulbourne in the long jump.
The cadre of top MVP athletes, including world 100-metre record-holder, Asafa Powell will be noticeably absent from the meet.
Organising Committee member and 1976 Olympic 200m champion, Donald Quarrie, said the group had been invited, but declined because many of their top athletes would be competing at overseas meets during that period.
"I got the list and all of their top athletes were not included. I know they are planning to run at Mount SAC relays (Texas) and overseas again... so although invited... they have not accepted our invitation," he said.
Meanwhile, Quarrie said the hope was that at some point the JIIM would gain Grand Prix status from the IAAF and that the ability to attract top name athletes was a big plus.
"Fortunately we have had a large list of athletes who would like to compete and it helps the status because we score points as the meet is graded by the IAAF based on performances and the hotel and athletes feedback, so we are scoring very high in the categories, so our meet is going up there with some big meets," he said.
The Ministry of Sport will host the meet for the first time since its inception and Sports Minister, Olivia Grange, was present at yesterday's launch at the Hilton Hotel.
Ticket prices, Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association (JAAA) president Howard Aris said, would be reasonable to help boost spectator support. Bleachers tickets will start at $200, while Grandstand tickets will go for $1,000, $1,500, and $2,000.
Gayle credits Test win to team chemistry
West Indies captain Chris Gayle has pointed to increased levels of communication between players as one of the reasons for success during his tenure.
West Indies' victory over Sri Lanka in the second Digicel Test at the Queen's Park Oval on Sunday was Gayle's second Test win in four matches in charge and he also inspired the regional side to a 2-1 win in a one-day international series in England last year.
"To be honest, communication with each other is very good. The guys are really rallying around each other and pointing out areas where we need to work on," Gayle said.
"When someone slips you have to let them know. The guys have been enjoying the cricket more. Once you are enjoying the game, you should be able to get better results."
After losing the first Test against Sri Lanka by 121 runs, West Indies bounced back to win the second by six wickets to earn a 1-1 series tie.
When the match was over, the West Indies players walked off the field exchanging handshakes and hugs with scores of fans who had come onto the ground and Gayle said he was hoping for a better turnout for the three-match one-day international series.
"It's good to see a smile on the faces of the supporters. We are trying to give our fans what they need - victories," Gayle said.
"After pulling off this one, I am sure they are at ease. It is good for them to have something to comment on.
"We are looking forward to the one-day games and to get even more support in the stands."

"But he has a scan this afternoon and he is better today than he was last night.
"That is positive for a muscle problem. But we'll know much more about it on Friday morning."
Wenger added: "We also have (Emmanuel) Adebayor who has a little ankle problem. We'll see how he is tomorrow. I hope he'll be okay. But the time is so short between the games it is very difficult to make a decision the morning after a game.
"You don't know if it is a bruise or a little twist and the first 24 hours doesn't tell you a lot about that."
