Barbee sets the record straight

December 27, 2007
Started By linko5 Comments
YardFlex caught up with Barbee backstage at the recently held Teen Splash at James Bond Beach, St Mary. Of course we couldn't help but ask her about the alleged beating she received. "I was sick and in bed when I got a phone call asking me what happened," Barbee explained. She was puzzled about the fact that someone would want to spread that kind of rumour about her. "Beenie Man was in Miami at the time, so from every angle this story is false," she corrected. Barbee had strong words when it came to the matter of being in an abusive relationship. I have never seen my father lay a hand on my mother, so I would never accept that kind of behaviour from anyone, the sultry singer stressed. However, Barbee says she is sad at the fact that some people would go to those lengths to try and darken her image. Publicist Ray Alexander is rest assured that they will be taking legal actions regarding the false story that is being circulated on the internet

Man Flees from Bar Bill

December 24, 2007
Started By Gates5 Comments
A 38-year-old man who went to a bar and drank up a huge bill then took a taxi to another town to avoid paying was fined when he appeared in the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate's Court recently.

With a determined female bartender in hot pursuit, Donovan Armstrong of a Lacovia address was caught and made to face the courts following the incident.

Armstrong was charged with obtaining credit by fraud and was fined $20,000 or 45 days in jail when he appeared before RM Stanley Clarke.

Allegations are that on November 14, Armstrong went to a bar on Main Street in Lacovia and ordered several drinks which amounted to a total of $7,005.

Armstrong, who confessed to the court that he has been having problems since he broke up with his girlfriend earlier this year, first ordered liquor to the valued at more than $5,000.

The court heard that the bartender told him when the bill reached $5,000 at which time Armstrong informed her that he would continue drinking. He continued guzzling liquor until the amount climbed to $7,005.

After he finished drinking, he told the bartender that he wanted a credit and that he would have to go to Santa Cruz to draw the money from the bank. Armstrong then reportedly stepped outside the bar and took a taxi heading towards Santa Cruz.

The bartender chased him and the man was eventually caught in Santa Cruz. The matter was reported to the police and Armstrong was subsequently arrested and charged.

On November 22 when he first appeared before the courts, Armstrong was offered bail in the sum of $20,000, but was unable to take up the offer.

Vybz Kartel a.k.a Addi the Teacha has been working hard on street promotions for his liquor, Vybz Rum. The rum is being distributed by Vybz Distillers Ltd., a subsidiary of the company that created Pimp Juice.

Vybz_Oak_Aged.jpgLast night, he showed up at Prendys on the Beach in Portmore, attended a British Link Up party in St. Andrew, and Ninjamans show at Marl Road, all of this is a precursor to the marketing blitz that will kick off next year with print and television ads endorsing the Vybz Rum.

Its just crazy street promotions now, I have been flossing with the liquor at a number of parties and people have been telling me they love the taste, it has a hint of coconut, its real smooth, triple distilled like Grey Goose, the ladies love it. The bottles are imported from Italy, ah sexiness mi a deal wid, the bottle is sleek and sexy, but the rum itself is an authentic Jamaican product, made right here. Vybz Rum will be the first official rum of dancehall. Right? he told One876Entertainment.com.

Vybz Kartel is booked to perform at the Kingston in Ocho Rios show with Sean Kingston in Ocho Rios on Christmas Day and he is one of the big acts for this years Guinness Sting show in Jamworld, Portmore.

Renaissance Disco and its hundreds of fans celebrated the commencement of Christmas Day with a vibes-filled party at the Palisadoes Go Kart Track, Kingston, last Monday.

The Renaissance Christmas Eve Party lived up to its potential of attracting lots of persons, however, unlike previous stagings the party took a really long time to gain momentum. At midnight the venue was sparsely occupied and the vibes and energy was lacking. The transition from Christmas Eve to Christmas Day was barely noticeable as the few patrons there were religiously stuck to the periphery of the venue imbibing alcoholic beverages.

No dancing

The musical selection from Renaissance had little effect and the party felt like a gathering of strangers eyeing each other rather than a party where people were out to enjoy themselves.

Vybz Kartel's Start Well, followed by Capleton's Bawl Forward and later Bounty Killer's Mystery brought the first sign of life to the party. It was now 1:40 a.m. and Kartel's Sen On and Karl Kani further injected some well-needed vibes into the party.

As it approached 2 a.m. there was a sudden rush on the venue and streams of persons were coming in. Many persons were arguing that it took them almost an hour to get inside. With that bit of complaint aside, all eyes were now focused on the female patrons, many of whom stuck to the 'all white' theme.

The dressing was something to write home about. The females came in all sizes and so did the attire. However, it was not always proportionate as some 'thick' females were sporting some rather raunchy clothing that left little to the imagination.

Short shorts

Many of the skirts were short, the shorts hugged diligently to the behinds, and the tops revealed belly buttons or, in some cases, a few tattoos. The females were definitely dressed to impress.

On that note, the party actually started at approximately 2:20 a.m. when ZJ Liquid was introduced to the stage. The disc jock immediately revved up a musical storm, starting his set with a few soca songs. He then graduated to some soul songs that had the patrons rocking and singing.

The party reached a new dimension when Liquid 'dropped' songs like Jay Z's Big Pimpin, and Bone Crusher's Never Scared. Liquid used Bugle to make the crowd Exercise, and Beenie Man to make the girls Back It Up, while Anthony B 'Tease Her'. Just when the party seemed like it had reached sky high, Liquid played Soulja Boy's Crank That and the place seemed to turn into a gym. It was as if the patrons were doing an exercise routine as they danced to the song. This vibe and energy with the playing of Buju Banton's Boom Bye Bye Remix was overwhelming and the song had to be 'pulled up' a few times.

When Richie D took over from Liquid he continued on the solid foundation that Liquid had built with some old school rap music courtesy of Biggy Smalls, Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Selections from the Fugees also went down well with the patrons and Spragga Benz's No Way mixed with Busta Rhymes' Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See created quite a stir.

When THE STAR team was leaving the venue at 4:30 a.m. Renaissance was yet to play their second stint and still there were persons entering the venue. There was hardly anyone leaving and the promise of a daylight party seemed as if it was going to come to fruition.

Patrons at the Island Explosion stage show in Clarendon had an unpleasant surprise on Christmas morning at about 5:10 as the show was about to get into its peak performances.

The show which was being staged at the Country Club in May Pen, came to a premature end as a joint police/military team invaded the venue while Clarendon artiste Assailant was in his act onstage. The officers went onstage and arrested the artiste for using profane language and he was escorted from the venue and later released.

photographer assualted

While the artiste was being escorted from the stage THE STAR's photographer, who was taking pictures at the event, was assaulted by one of the police officers and his camera damaged.

The police and military personnel were conducting a search for guns and other ammunition and the thousands of patrons in the venue were forced to wait for over five hours until the security forces had conducted their search.

All three exits to the venue were sealed off and heavily armed soldiers surrounded the venue as patrons along with their vehicles were searched as they left the venue.

No weapons were found, however several persons were taken to the May Pen Police Station, processed, and released.

Up to the point of the invasion by the joint team the stage show was going on quite well as patrons were having a great time after being entertained by the likes of Ken Boothe, George Nooks, Coco Tea, Wayne Wonder, Daville, Chris Martin, Shaggy, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Captain Barkey and Wicker Man and the 'Fireman' Capleton.

The most anticipated artistes such as Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Busy Signal, Elephant Man and Beenie Man did not get the chance to perform.

Patrons at the show told THE STAR that they believe "this is a plan thing fi mash up de promoter show because the show a gwaan peaceful and people a enjoy themselves". They added "bet dem nuh go mash up sting".

The show was touted to be perhaps one of the best in December, a period in Jamaica when stage shows are historically plenty. Unfortunately for all concerned with the event, Welcome to Jamrock failed to deliver. The good things about the event were that band changes were quick, and it began and ended at the times advertised. When YardFlex arrived at the Constant Spring Football Field, we were greeted by the sounds of Etana, who lived up to her ever growing reputation as a "social commentary" artist. She delivered her most popular single, "Roots," that brings to mind the question, where is my true spiritual calling? Etana performed the single to decent response from the audience. Tarrus Riley followed, and he was in good "nic" while delivering all his popular songs, including, "Beware," "She's Royal," and "Stay With You." He received mild approval from the audience, when he infused spontaneous lyrics into his performance. Truth be told, it appeared that the audience was like a child being forced to consume food too quickly. The show contradicted Dancehall tradition, a culture in which audiences are teased and appetized at stage shows before headline acts are called to perform. "It's all happening too fast," said one patron who stood exactly in front of the stage. She added, "And the times the artistes get to perform are so short!" The show was held at a venue close to upscale communities, and so the documented 9:00 pm start and 2:00 am end had to be adhered to, regardless, patrons did not seem to care. A strong police presence was also obvious. Moments close to mid-night, what appeared to be strong contingents of young men were observed entering the venue. Needless to say, Bounty Killer, Dancehall's foremost gangster deejay had entered the venue. During his arrival, Collie Buddz was failing miserable. At no point during his 20 minute set did he ignite the audience. Further, his delivery was lacking and patrons struggled to hear what he was "trying hard" to say. His set ended, and MC, Paula Ann Porter-Jones quickly reappeared onstage in an obvious attempt to keep the audience interested in the proceedings. She announced quickly, "We are gonna have a quick band change, but don't go anywhere, the big, bad deejay is next." The band change ended, and when Paula Ann Porter began the Killers' introduction, patrons who had wondered away for refreshments were seeing running hastily to get as close to the stage as possible. Bounty Killer was not "cross", and so he performed more like the "five star general". He delivered hits from his huge catalog, and made a few jabs at Beenie Man, this to the amusement of the audience. Damian "Junior Gong" Marley followed, and he gave a performance featuring a well prepared backing band, and a string of surprise appearances which included his brother Steven, Bounty Killer, Busy Signal and Elephant Man. Junior Gong's set was characterized by songs selected from his various albums

who is the greateset dancehall artist of all times? factors to be taken into consideration include lyrical content, longevity, charisma, fan favorite, controversial and anything else

Police Raid Island Xplosion

Started By linko10 Comments
Police Raid Island Xplosion Island Xplosion has become the lastest victim in the ongoing raids being carried out by the security forces in a new plan being implemented to stem the wave of crime currently affecting the country. The Christmas Eve show held in Maypen, Clarendon had some top billing artistes slated to perform but patrons were again left hanging when the invasion occured. According to reports deejay Assailant allegedly found himself on the wrong side of the law and was later escorted away by the lawmen. A camera man from the Gleaner Company was also roughed up when he tried to capture a picture of a man being taken away by a member of the security forces, he said his fingers and his arm were twisted, his camera was confiscated and destroyed (broken into two pieces) before being returned to him with a stern warning. During the search operation several knives and other dangerous projectiles were found and confiscated and some of the men were taken away in a truck by the lawmen for questioning. This is indeed not a jolly season for party promoters, but 876radio.com can only wonder which event will be next on the list, some are speculating the greatest one night Reggage show on earth 'STING', but then again that is only a speculation

Thugs Threaten Spragga Benz

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1070 According to a recent publication carried by the Jamaican STAR, men from sections of Dunkirk in east Kingston are waging war against Dancehall Icon Carlton 'Spragga Benz' Grant.

Information reaching their offices states that the deejay has become the centre of attraction in an ongoing war in the community with men sending constant threats to him and his colleagues. Spragga was unavailable for comment but a source close to him informed the media house about the current happenings.

The source, a native of a section of the community known as 'Red Square', said men from McIntyre Villa (more known as 'Site'), Black Street, Bryden Street and Maiden Street have made it clear that they want Spragga dead or out of the community.
It was said that several threats have been issued to the deejay and colleagues around him.

Those threats are seemingly more than just words however, as men, alleged to be in the circles of Spragga, have reportedly been killed. Detectives from the East Kingston CIB explained that there are at least five reported killings in the area, but motives are yet to be established.

But residents say they are well aware of the motives for the men's death.

"Dem seh nobody neva did fi go 'Bally' funeral and seh nuh nine night neva did fi keep. See it deh, people go di funeral and since that 'bout five youth dead," a resident pointed out.

It was said that 'Bally' was a close colleague of Spragga who died moments after having a conversation with the artiste who, fortunately, left the scene in time. In addition, it was said that threats on Spragga's life, were politically motivated. 'War' song

According to the source, the situation took a turn for the worse when the deejay recorded Anti-corruption, a social commentary said to include the names of alleged corrupt individuals.

"Da tune release 'bout two months before election and is like it touch a nerve, since it release things get obvious," the source said.

"Spragga a good youth still, a jus' through di artiste a bun out di politician dem ... Mi roll wid everybody and mi neva see or hear seh Spragga a instigate no foolishness," one known thug who spoke on condition of anonymity explained.

Amidst the threats and obvious danger, Spragga has remain calm. "Dem man deh seh a Jah a him security eno, him nuh scared him just a tek it one day at a time," the source claimed. Some residents of the war-torn community expressed that while Spragga is not known to be a violent individual, they are bracing for what may spiral into an all out war.

"Spragga deal wid di youths dem good, no matter weh dem come from, him cool like dat. Him nuh haffi do nuttin still eno, di yute dem round him ago defen him to di max an a deh so di big war ago bruck out," one resident explained.

Meanwhile, the police say they have heard rumours of the situation but no formal reports have been made.

"If it is a case where Mr. Grant's life is being threatened then he needs to make a report in his best interest. If not, the police will not be summoned until himself or someone around him is hurt," Detective Corporal Malcolm Greene of the East Kingston CIB explained.

Onandi Lowe Held With Ganja

December 24, 2007
Started By Gates6 Comments
Footballer Onandi Lowe was charged yesterday by the Spanish Town police with possession of and dealing in marijuana after several wraps of the illegal drug were found in his possession.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that about 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, members of the Island Special Constabulary Force were on duty along the Spanish Town bypass when they stopped a vehicle being driven by the footballer and he told them that he was in a hurry to go to a funeral. However, the police insisted on a search. More than 30 small packages of marijuana were found and he was subsequently charged by the police along with Sophia Stewart.

Lowe, along with his co-accused, will appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on January 8, 2008 to answer to the charges.
Chris  statement:

The accusations that Demario Raz B Thorton and Ricardo Thorton have made are vehemently false and hold no merit.  I have recently stopped financially supporting both individuals along with assisting them with their criminal and legal matters which leads me to believe they are resentful and looking to benefit financially from this.  My family is my first priority and the reason why I have been so supportive of them.  In bringing these false claims, they have not only slandered me, they have also put me in a position to ensure that the truth is known and I will take all legal routes to protect myself, my family and my four children."

"Its also quite ironic that these statements were made only 2 weeks after they were denied admittance by a venue for an event I hosted in Beverly Hills."

The Don Gorgon Ninjaman will be coming with his lyrical guns blazing at the Guinness Sting 2007 concert. If it is killing, I am willing, anything come out, mi ready fi kill, mi no inna the chatty chatty thing, the clash veteran who has been involved in famous face-offs with the likes of heavyweights like Cobra, Shabba and Super Cat, told one876entertainment.com. Mi no fraida none ah dem, and mi no waan kill no one deejay, ah the whole fraternity mi waan kill, all the bad one dem, send dem out. All dem a hype, dem no have no belly bottom, dem no have no lyrics, ah me name 20 years of machine gun Kelly, ah lyrical content me a deal wid, the deejay whose real name is Desmond Ballentyne. Ninjaman is booked to perform at 11:45 p.m., but that performance would not be the extent of his Sting 2007 experience. He vowed that he would not leave the venue until he had lyrically killed somebody onstage. Mi ah go perform early but mi nah lef the showground, me ah wait, and if any deejay call me name, him better know what him a do. If him say Ninja, mi a go up de, even if him say something good. Him caan she Ninja nothing, him haffi say, the greatest clash deejay ah Ninja, him caan say Ninja ah the greatest clash deejay, cause as him say mi name, me plan fi go up. Him haffi say the good thing before him call up mi name, he explained. Ninjaman was also critical of the recent incident at the Stone Love anniversary dance where there was a fist-fight between Deva Brat and Munga Honorebel. Only dunce artistes engage inna physical confrontation. Music ah fi enjoy yourself, and make your fans who spend dem money enjoy themselves and go ah dem yard happy. Look how much artiste mi kill and dem still go somewhere in life, dem can lose a competition and no lose dem career, so dem fi undastand that is just music and is just a joy, he said. In the meantime, Guinness Sting 2007 will feature Bounty Killer closing the show in his usual aggressive style. Bounty will be closing the show, so people can come expecting the old time Bounty, cross, angry and miserable. He will have a lot of things to say, Isaiah Laing, head of Supreme Promotions, said. Earlier this year, there was an incident between Ninjaman and Bounty Killers entourage at a stage show in the Caribbean. And in the last few years, the two have exchanged fierce barbs and made unsavoury comments about each others personal life. Bounty Killer is widely regarded as the heir to Ninjamans throne as the king of clashes. In the year 2001, Bounty went to the assistance of Ninjaman against deejay Merciless, and was lyrically killed by Merciless in the process. But Ninjaman and Bounty later had a public falling out, which precipitated the infamous fight in Sting 2003 between Ninjaman and Vybz Kartel, Bountys most famous protégé. After that, the rift between the two has never been mended. There was even a famous quote on television when Bounty quipped: the friendship have an endship. Could this be the year that the former friends duke it out onstage? No, we are not having that, Laing said. Laing said that there are no planned clashes between Bounty and any artiste this year, but said that there is always an element of the unknown when it comes to Guinness Sting. There are going to be surprises, I am not in a position to say just yet, but when the show is finished, the fans wont miss anyone who is not billed for the show.

Bounty Diss Beenie at 'Jamrock'

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1069 Last Friday's performance by the Warlord, Bounty Killler could easily be argued as his best this year and one of the best we at 876radio.com have seen from him in a long time.

Prior to him hitting the stage there were a few well received performances from the likes of Rootz Undeground, Tarrus Riley amongst others, after a grand introduction by the nights' MC, Paul Ann Porter-Jones the Killer hit the stage in a semi jovial mood and worked a fierce 15 minutes set dedicated strictly to the ladies.

But what would a show be without Bounty and his signature style, telling the band to play him low while he proceeded to talk about his nemesis Beenie Man he said,

"Good night Jamrock, when oonu come a dancehall show oonu know what fi expect, a hear the fish a guh round and a talk a bag a thing, yes oonu nuh know a who me a talk the land fish, yes dem have a talking fish weh walk pon land too..

people oonu nuh memba when oonu likkle and oonu mother use to tell oonu seh when oonu see people drop tings a road oonu nuffi pick it up ...well the fish look like him did hard ears and suh him guh pick it up and seet deh now, she give him the whole a Easter now for him Christmas, beat him up and give him jacket fi wear..dats why me buy my own shirt"

This brought much laughter to a predominantly uptown crowd, before he said "Ok now is bad man time now, I done wid di ladies dem" and proceeded to sing his 2007 anthem 'Nuh Friend Fish". the next fifteen minutes of his thirty minutes set was laden with hits from his early years coming right up the ranks and what was even more impressive he never cursed once during his performance.

He later made a special appearance doing a combination with Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley before being joined on stage by the other members of the Alliance such as Mavado, Bling Dawg, Busy Signal and Elephant Man, who were a part of the surprise package. Serani and Bugle were also in the house but never performed, backing for the Warlord was provided by DASECA/Anger Management band.

Later Stephen and Damian did an electrifying set before closing the show.

Liquid & Nikki-Z Cops Top Award

Liquid & Nikki-Z Cops Top Award

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1072 Last weekend at Zip 103FM Christmas gathering, zip jocks Liquid and Nikki-Z were named zip jock and jockette of the year, this is the second time that Nikki-Z has copped the coveted award and the third for Liquid.

Liquid who is arguable the nucleus of the playstation (honorary mention to Chrome and Johnny Kool) has been with the station from it's infant stages and has taken it to being a force to reckoned with on the local airwaves.

In various dancehall circles he is referred to as the King of new tunes and also the jock responsible to paving the career path for a lot of young and upcoming artiste trying to break into the mainstream.

On the other hand Nikki-Z who is hands down the gossip queen of morning radio has a certain allure about her that seems to captivate listeners to want to wake up early every morning and gobble up the celebrity dirt that she dishes out, honorary mention must be made to ZJ Electra, who burns up the airwaves everyday with her skillful and precise mixing , once while in transit on a taxi cab through the city a member of the 876radio.com team overheard someone say "Is that a girl mixing bwoy, she mix like liquid ..nah lie she bad"

So we at 876radio.com would just like to take this opportunity to congratulate both Liquid and Nikki-Z on their achievement and keep playing that good music and fighting the good fight for dancehall.

state of the dancehall industry

December 24, 2007
Started By Gamepun1 Comments
I will not go into a boring introduction into this topic, but i think that dancehall has somewhat taken a turn for the worst, the best years of dancehall was in the 90's. (hip hop also) . however the industry has been dented with strings of  controversy, in other words if a no one thing a di oda,

is the beenie and bounty issue real or stage, ova the years these two go at it constantly, it fuels the rivalry but breaks down the music.

ninjaman creates controversy, especially at december(STING).... but yet as a artist he is yet to establish himself..... when was the last time ninja did a hit song.......mmm.... cover me? LOL

Sean Paul's success has been widely criticised by the die hard  dancehall fans, because of his marketing strategy--(light skin and hispanic look) and so is Damien marley--(bob marley Bwoy)....is it that other artist wont be recognised...didnt capleton have an overseas contract? wat happened to beenie man and virgin records....sizzla was supposed to be signed by dame dash....wat happened..... y cant artist like cobra, spragga, general degree and ninjaman make it on the overseas level?

The Homophobic movement has caused a severe setback to the development of dancehall music...first of all im not gay.... but i think we need to decrease on the homphobic lyrics...do more gyal tune.... more reality......for example..queen ifrica tune is a positive messge towards incest...the formation of the lyrics is powerful..jamaican artist need to be more creative in their deliveries...remember songs like two fowl a mi yard by silver cat.....it was sex in the form of humour...
movado needs to keep the violence in another form...music is in a poetry form and it has many themes....

the content needs to be cleaned up....how do we go from stanley and the turbines..sawdering a weh di young gyal want to vybz kartels' jump and skin out pon addi cocky...wat went wrong in the time period, sum ppl say its the times and others blame it on the ghetto....mmm...never blame ourselves....

and last...... the died hard fans need to give it a rest. at the end of the day... its still music...jamaicans have a wierd perception on topics...either u are with me on sumthing? or u are against me..and so we use the methods to get ppl to support our arguments...regardlessof whatever fan base u represent.. its still jamaican music... at least 80% of dancehall fans support alliance...which is good...but.. no one calls spade a spade.... anymore... its always di bwoy violate the killa... a bullet him fi get....or di man dem a fite out mi artist.... we need to cut the crap....how can we defend sum1 who doesnt even know us... personally...

anyway tell me ur recommendations on the issues and how can the business be better once again

Lawmen Vow To Hunt Cop Killers

December 24, 2007

THE CHAIRMAN of the Police Federation, Corporal Hartley Stewart, says his colleagues have vowed to find the cop killers who remain on the run.

"I can guarantee you that your justice will be swift," he warned on Saturday, while paying tribute at the funeral of Sergeant Errol Brown of the Area One police highway patrol.

"Just recently, three of those responsible for the death of one of our officers were killed by the police in St. Ann. For all the others who are still on the loose, we will find you!" Cpl. Stewart declared.

Hundreds of mourners turned out at the Holy Trinity Church in Westgate, St. James, for the funeral of Sgt. Brown, 52, who was killed at his home in Albion in the parish on December 12. His service pistol was stolen.

Failing grade

Cpl. Stewart also gave the Government and politicians, in general, a failing grade for their bid to take charge of the crime situation.

Earlier, Archbishop Hollis Lynch pressed for hanging to be resumed.

The Minister of National Security, Derrick Smith, who also brought tribute, sought to assure that his administration was committed to properly equipping the police.

Smith was making his third trip to western Jamaica within a week to attend the funeral of a slain policeman. The other funerals were for Sgt. Alan Lindsay and Assistant Commissioner of Police Gilbert Kameka.

Young Jock arrested with loaded gun at airport

yungjoc.jpgRapper Yung Joc was arrested in Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday morning, after he allegedly tried to pass through an airport security check point with a fully loaded handgun.

According to police, Yung Joc attempted to pass through a security checkpoint at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, when police found the fully loaded firearm.

The Atlanta-bred rapper, born Jasiel Robinson, is currently facing local firearms charges, although he may face charges under the Air Piracy Act.

Yung Joc is currently in the Cuyahoga County Jail. Information on his bail was unavailable as of press time.

The arrest comes on the heels of a banner year for Yung Joc, according to recently released data released by The Nielsen Company.

The rapper is featured on T-Pain's hit single "Buy You A Drank," which was the top selling master tone of 2007, as well as the most played single of the year, tallying almost 400,000 spins.

Does this guy have a death wish or something...wish we could get into his head

Beenie Man Beat up Barbee

Ok Breaking news, can I have a drum roll please this information is SO HOT we have to write it in an air conditioned room so the page don't burn up.

Information reaching the offices of 876radio.com has informed us that Beenie Man and Barbee were allegedly in a fight over the weekend. The source said Barbee was at the Doctor's Bachelor Pad which he shares with is brother 'Blue' on Wellington Drive in Upper St. Andrew.

The source explained to 876radio.com that this is what occured; Barbee was home relaxing and enjoying a meal, which has become a regular practice for the young singer, when Beenie came home sporting another girl on his arm, on entry to the home he allegedly said to Barbee he wanted to have a Ménage à Trois (threesome), But her reponse was "I'm not in the mood today".

At this point because of her refusal the Doctor forced her to leave the house, but not before Barbee decided to put up a fight, as she was not going to sit there and allow another woman to come and take her place, (Quick flash back, didn't they both said they were NOT involved ..We are just wondering, then again that was the exact statement he uttered, earlier in the year when he was asked about D'Angel and see what that led to Macro Dean, MAFIA House getting dissolved and a slew to problems too countless to mention).

Now back to the story, It's alleged that during the melee Barbee got beat up by the Doctor, before she eventually left. The irony about this whole story is that Barbee who was slated to perform in Portmore over the weekend did not show (I wonder why), and Beenie was also seen over the weekend sporting a new girl on his arm. So the big question is, Could it really be over for Ken, (sorry I mean Beenie) and Barbee even though they claim NOT to be involved?.

Zenith night at the recent Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest was a blast out of this world in more ways than one for Beenie Man and his "huggie bear" Barbee. Caught in plain view - cheek to cheek and utterly lovey dovey, for all eyes to see, The Doctor seemed to be putting in some overtime with one of his colleagues - Barbee.

Barbee, who was no stranger to the 2007 Sumfest crowd, was called up on the Sumfest stage by the Dancehall Giant to perform a duo with him during his electrifying Thursday night performance. She also appears in Beenie Man's latest video and is featured on his album, Undisputed.

"What a way him bright," a concerned patron exclaimed as she voiced her displeasure of seeing Beenie Man with a woman other than his wife. "Den wey D'Angel deh?" the audience member said.

It was at Reggae Sumfest last year that Beenie Man and a very pregnant D'Angel also sang and smooched together. D'ngel's reaction to all this, "Talk to Moses not me."

Now the whole world is asking, is this the end of a romantic yet tumultuous saga with D'Angel, an interesting twist or is it a strategic PR move for both the Doctor and possibly soon to be Nurse Barbee.

A 10-year-old contestant in the 2007/2008 Mini Miss Jamaica contest has written to Prime Minister Bruce Golding and Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller urging them to create a peaceful and safe Jamaica.

In her letter written on behalf of the other 11 contestants, none of whom are older than 10, Tashay Myers asked both leaders to "Please find a way to let the gunmen know that they are loved and can find better ways of living than to kill and hurt people."

Added Tashay: "One day when I was watching the news, I heard of a little girl who died after she was crying for help while her house was being burnt. I felt so sad, I could not eat for two days. That is why the contestants and I are asking you to help us as the leader of our country, Jamaica."

Golding received his copy of the letter on December 11 when the contestants visited Gordon House, where they met other parliamentarians.

The contestants were delighted at meeting the prime minister, and after taking pictures with him, presented Information Minister Olivia 'Babsy' Grange with a copy of the letter.

20071223t18000005001306kp6.jpg

The letter ends with a prayer for both Golding and Simpson Miller.

Here is an edited text of the letter:

My name is Tashay Myers, and I am a contestant in the Mini Miss Jamaica 2007 contest. I am writing you this letter on behalf of myself and the other contestants.

I do not like the way crime and violence affect me and other people in my country. Children are afraid that they all will be killed. Please do something to stop the crime in Jamaica.

When children's parents are killed by violence it affects them greatly. If my parents are killed, I would be terrified and probably do nothing again for the rest of my childhood years.

One day when I was watching the news, I heard of a little girl who died after she was crying for help while her house was being burnt. I felt so sad, I could not eat for two days. That is why the contestants and I are asking you to help us as the leader of our country, Jamaica.

Please find a way to let the gunmen know that they are loved and can find better ways of living than to kill and hurt people. Please help us to stop the crime and violence, especially the indiscipline and killings in our schools.

We want a peaceful and safe Jamaica like back in the days [when], my grandparents told me, that when they were young, people used to sleep with their doors open. We need Jamaica to return to those days.

Thank you, please respond.
Yours sincerely,
Tashay Myers

Attached is a prayer for our leaders and the signatures of the Mini Miss Jamaica 2007 contestants.

FIVE PEOPLE were shot dead in Montego Bay, St. James, on the weekend.

Investigators were yesterday called to the scene of the double murder of Seymour Harvey and Claudia Lawson in the Retirement area. The two were found in bushes with gunshot wounds about 11:00 a.m. The police say several 9mm spent shells were recovered from the scene.

It was reported that the two went to a club in Montego Bay on Saturday night and they later attended a wake in Retirement. It is theorised that they were killed between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

No motive has been established for the killings.

In another incident, 27-year-old Wendell Watson's bullet-riddled body was discovered in a yard in Flankers about midday on Saturday after residents heard explosions. Detectives found a quantity of .45 spent shells and expended bullets at the scene.

It was a similar scene at Retirement, also on Saturday, when the body of 33-year-old mason Bill Rhoden was found at his yard hours after residents reportedly heard explosions in the area.

Meanwhile, the police theorise that robbery may have been the motive for the murder of Renn Brown, a 37-year-old accountant. Brown is a prominent member of the Roman Catholic Diocese in Montego Bay. He was shot and killed by unknown assailants at his gate in the upscale Mango Walk community last Friday night.

According to the Constabulary Communication Network, Brown drove to his home about 11:00 p.m. and was attacked by gunmen who shot him several times. He was pronounced dead at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

In recent weeks, the city of Montego Bay has been a hotbed of gun violence, including the murder of two police sergeants Alan Lindsay and Errol Brown, who were killed by criminals less than five days apart.

In response, the Police High Command has deployed additional manpower and resources to the western parish and joint police-military patrols have been intensified in troubled communities.

Two Killed In Traffic Accidents

Two persons were killed in separate traffic accidents between Saturday and Sunday.

The first accident occurred along the Haughton Court main road in Lucea, Hanover, on Sunday morning and claimed the life of Michael Williams, 40, of Haughton Barrows district, Lucea.

Reports are that about 12:15 a.m., Williams was riding his bicycle along the said road when on reaching the section near the Lucea Courthouse, he collided with a Toyota Fielder motor car registered 9820 ED, being driven by a Dalton Pringle, also of a Lucea address. Williams sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the Noel Holmes Hospital.

Forty-four-year-old Garfield Mendez of Thompson Town district in Trelawny died in a three-vehicle collision on the Content main road in Williamsfield, Manchester, on Saturday night.

Three other persons were injured in the accident. They have been identified as 19-year-old Donovan Mendez and Garfield Baker, 25, both farmers of Thompson Town, and Noel Gowie of Bethany district, Manchester.

Reports are that about 7:50 p.m., Andre Gowie was driving his Mitsubishi Gallant towards Williamsfield with Noel Gowie aboard. On reaching a section of the road, he reportedly lost control of the car and crashed into a Nissan Sunny which was travelling in the opposite direction.

The impact caused the Sunny to slam into a Nissan pickup that was being driven by Baker and had Garfield and Donovan Mendez aboard.

The injured persons were taken to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where Garfield Mendez succumbed to his injuries and the others were admitted for treatment.

The Mandeville police are investigating.

Dancehall has long been the genre of showdowns & clashes with anyone bold enough to step in its arena earning the chance to compete with the best of the best. Lyrically driven it takes skillful artists to compose melodies and hooks that have a shelf-life of longer than a few weeks, not to mention the appeal needed to grace highly competitive local charts.

Einstein1.jpgThe year is 2007 and a bubbling young deejay Einstein is preparing for a musical assault. Having only recently received recognition as a true lyricist Einstein exudes confidence in his work. Judging by his string off break out singles he is ready for warfare with sharp flows flipping verse in, verse out with the deep texture of a well trained voice powering over most of the summers hottest rhythm tracks. Einstein who is an independent artist with no label ties is however the first to tell you that this is only the beginning and dancehall is no one man band, connections and goodwill goes a far way in getting your work out to the masses. Now coming into his own Einstein has an attentive audience craving new records, mix that with the respect of most local Radio DJs and in a few years dancehall could see a next crossover prospect.

His image is crisp and with a distinct personality that seems to explode once he steps foot on stage mic in hand the Rise up the Rifle deejay is strapped with extra clips in hand scoping a successful career in music.

One876Entertainment.com went in search of the rising artist to better understand what he has to offer dancehall music.

Bounty Killer rocks Welcome to Jamrock

Last night, Bounty Killer rolled out the usual gal clown disses at his nemesis and perennial rival Beenie Man in front of a large crowd at the Constant Spring Golf Club in St. Andrew. Bounty Killer worked well, delivering his monster hits, but oddly, took time out to lambaste Beenie, something he had refrained from doing the last few months. Maybe Bounty was just prepping himself, or psyching up himself for the Guinness Sting 07 event. Whatever the case, he was in a no-nonsense mood as he asked the question: who ah the real gal clown?! A small section of the predominantly uptown crowd shouted Beenie. Then the Killa proceeded to discuss Beenies recent marital woes, and opined that Beenie was now crying like a girl. The Welcome to Jamrock show featured great performances from Damian Jr. Gong Marley, Stephen Marley, and Tarrus Riley. Facebook makes having sex easy

hiv.jpg
According to a new study published in the US journal Sexuality Research and Social Policy, a third of women who look to the internet for romance sleep with their prospective partners on a first date.

Amazingly, three quarters of those women do NOT use a condom, says the survey. 568 women were asked in total.

Editor of Womens Health magazine told news.com.au that the results were troubling. She reckons that folk feel more comfortable after having had lengthy conversations online, often through social networking, and so the higher rates of first-date sex arent all that surprising.

Romance hungry geeks are more likely to put out on the first night of meeting someone as opposed to women in general, who Felicity Percival of Womens Health says are sticking to the 12 date rule. The 12 vodka shots rule is a popular male alternative.

Teen in Maximum Lockdown

16-year-old boy who was allegedly caught with an AK 47 rifle in Portmore was remanded to maximum security when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

According to Detective Corporal Eucklin Mendez, the police went on operation at Cook and Dog Lane in Newlands on December 14, about 4 p.m., when the teenager was observed carrying a rifle through a swampy area. He said the police shouted out to him and the child dropped the weapon and began to run. He was chased and the rifle retrieved from where he dropped it.

Sawed off AK

It was discovered to be an AK 47, a part of which was sawed off. It contained 19 rounds. Det. Corp. Mendez said the youth told the police he got the weapon to 'lock' (hide).

Having heard the allegations he was subsequently remanded by RM Lorna Errar-Gayle. He will return to court January 2.

Meanwhile, a student of Edna Manley School of Performing Arts, Asra Willy was remanded when he appeared on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The police told the court that on December 15, about 1:15 in the morning, Willy was spotted along Winding Trails in Independence City with four other men. They were accosted and during a search, a Taurus Revolver, was taken from him along with two live rounds.

His lawyer Everton Byrd in applying for bail told the court that his client only knew of the gun the following morning after he was taken into custody, and that the officer came and showed him the weapon.

Having heard the allegations, however, RM Lorna Errar-Gayle remanded him until Friday December 28, to appear in the Gun Court.

Many dancehall insider speculated that it would now escalate into an all out physical war, but it seems that will not be the case anytime soon even though in an interview this afternoon (Tuesday) with Scott Wilson, Deva Brat said he can't guarantee anything, because he is a Brat by nature and so trouble is always on the horizon.

Of course everyone knows that Deva Brat is aligned to the group Portmore Empire headed by the Emperor himself, Vybz Kartel and many wondered if he would get drawn into the war, base on earlier declarations he made in some of his songs, here is a quote from one "Diss the Portmore Empire tings nah guh nice, smaddy haffi lay dung pon Kingston Ice"

However a visit by 876radio.com to an undisclosed location revealed a different side to the saga. On our arrival we were just in time to see Munga entering the premises on his way to speak with Kartel about what had happened at the event between himself and Deva Brat.

They sat and spoke at length, while being guarded by an army of thugs, the details of the meeting were not revealed to us but it seems that some amicable agreement was reached, after Munga left in came Devra Brat about an hour later apparently his lateness was due to am impending court hearing he had to attend to.

When asked by 876radio.com the Emperor (Vybz Kartel), said he never wanted to comment on the matter at this time, but Shawn Storm called Munga a coward for not engaging in a lyrical battle, instead of getting physical, Black Ryno another member of the Empire said he had nothing to say as he was not present at the show nor did he see the video.

One thing seems certain though from the look of things peace may be on the horizon.

In other news fans can look out for the Portmore Empire at STING, Kingston Comes to Ochi and a number of other big shows over the holidays.

Nb. In case you missed the fight here is another look at it courtesy of Irish and Chin, this version is in slow motion and from a different angle so you can see how it all unfolded. (see video below)

Dancehall ghetto sex bomb Stacious will be taking no prisoners at the Guinness Sting 2007 concert this year.

The self-titled Gangstress will be lyrically armed to the nines for the verbal confrontations that often define the Sting dancehall experience.

Sting ah the main focus, right now, anything is possible, but I am not going after anyone, I am just going to be the Gangstress, she said.

Stacious.jpgShe has been involved in an ongoing promotional campaign for the Rodeo energy drink. The campaigns final car show was held on December 2 and attracted thousands of supporters. Stacious growing fan base has been anxiously awaiting the Rodeo 2008 calendar which will reportedly feature her daringly infamous no-ass outfit.

I designed the outfit myself, it is inspired by Christina Aguileras outfit from the Dirrrttty video, it is just a pants leg, and there is no covering over the ass, my dressmaker Carol made it, and the men go crazy for it, Stacious said, giggling.

Portmore ah love me right now, mi do Sting road show inna St. Thomas, but mi never come ah the last one that keep over Portmore, I was busy in the studio, but everybody will see me at Sting, she added confidently.

Stacious has been working long hours in the studio to voice a number of club bangers to satisfy her growing fan base. She has a number of singles out including Haters on the Cranberry rhythm, Poison Ivy on Doc Mac Entertainments 007 rhythm, Inna Mi Class on the popular Dem Gal Sitten rhythm,  Fallen Down on John Johns Shoota rhythm, Duck on DJ Sparks Labba Labba rhythm, and Make It Snappy, another Doc Mac Entertainment project.

The Make It Snappy video was premiered on HYPEs Up and Live show recently to rave reviews. The video was directed by Mad Multimedia.

Basically, the video is about me giving my man bun. Him gone to work, and mi start mek a series of phone calls, mi call about five different man, and tell dem fi hurry up and come over before mi man come, but it never quite happen because by the time the sideman reach and say him two minutes away, my man was already there, so mi tell him no bother, she said.

Stacious has never been afraid to explore her sexuality, and this outspoken young woman is not afraid to talk de tings dem. Both of these qualities will be on full display on the Jamworld stage in Portmore, St. Catherine.

You dont want to miss it. And that's a fact.

THEY are still trying to come to grips with DeeAndrea Morris' cold-*lo**ed murder and not even news that a suspect has been held in connection with her death can console the relatives, friends and neighbours of the 21-year-old University of Technology (UTech) student.

MORRIS... shot dead as she tried to run away
Police have not released the identity of the suspect held in connection with the early Saturday morning murder, but said he is from a tough area close to the university known as 'Mona Commons'.

DeeAndrea was attacked and shot when she and her colleagues were returning to their boarding house in Papine, St Andrew from a fete at the university's campus.

According to DeeAndrea's only sibling, Shernett, her sister's untimely death has shattered the rural rustic district of Top Sham, near Mile Gully in Manchester.

"The entire community is in mourning. I don't know how to explain it to you," Morris said last Wednesday as she struggled to hold back sobs.

She said her parents have been living on the edge since they received news that one of their two daughters had been murdered.

"I think my father is going crazy and my mother keeps staring at the gate. I think she is expecting her to come back," Morris said.

Along with Shernett, DeeAndrea was one of a few young persons from the district who had gone on to seek higher education, and the sudden death of one of the community's bright prospects has come as a hard blow.

DeeAndrea Morris was killed one week after her elder sister's 23rd birthday.

"Everyone is crying. She had apologised to me for not making it because she had exams, but she had promised to buy something when she came home," Morris said.

Police say the gunmen attacked the students as they tried to run away. DeeAndrea nearly reached to the front door of the boarding house when she was shot four times in the back by the gunman. The gunman then turned and shot another female student before leaving the area.

The injured student has reportedly been crippled and is now recovering in hospital.

However, in spite of the pain that Shernett Morris is undergoing because of the senseless attack on her sister, she wished no evil for the triggerman.

"I have nothing to say about him. Nothing is going to bring her back and that's all I want; one more second with her," Morris said.

It is not clear why the students were attacked, but head of the St Andrew Central Police division, Superintendent George Quallo, told the Sunday Observer that the killer was known to his victims and might have harassed them before.

"The word is that he may have approached them on previous occasions," Quallo said.

Students and staff of UTech have complained that they have been the victims of robberies and other assaults when they leave the school compound and enter the Papine community.

The police have also confirmed a report that several robberies have taken place in areas surrounding the institution.

The death has also hit students and staff of the administration hard.

"It is very hard on the students and the UTech community. We are not too sure why it happened and we are very saddened by the incident," UTech corporate communications manager, Hector Wheeler, said.

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1053 Ok people try not to laugh too hard, why do I say this, can you say dread gone wild, well it seems that radio jock Nikki-Z from Zip 103FM has lost her bunkers or the red dye has seeped into her brain.

Last weekend during one of her regular escapades she decided to make a stop at Cuddyz in New Kingston with a friend to grab a bite, but she ended up biting off more than she could chew.

According to our sources at the popular sports bar she normally parks in the New Kingston Shopping Center parking lot but on this blessed day she decided to park on the street. While inside enjoying her meal with her friend they noticed that a wrecker had hooked up the car, a Silver Toyota Corolla and was about to transport it to the city pound.

This was when all hell broke loose as Nikki lept from the table ran outside and started to argue with the tow truck driver, who never seemed phased one bit by her ranting and comments about her lawyer and what she was going to do. Realising this was getting her nowhere as the driver was now in his truck and about to drive away in a desperate act to save her car she jumped on it while it was being towed away. (can you say super woman)

Ok a moment of silence I know what you are thinking, I wondered the same thing is this girl on something ...let's just assume it's too much of that Nescafe cafe Latte or coffee frappe' that she talks about every morning on her show.

In the end she NEVER fell from the car or got ran over by the truck and I guess out of sheer amazement and shock the tow truck driver decided to give her a break and release the car saving her a trip to the pound on Monday morning.

Nikki, Jamaicans have grown to love you and the added drama you bring to morning radio, but for the sake of everyone try not to do such stupid things in the future, because next time you may not be so lucky. So from now on try to be on your best behaviour because you know 876radio.com is everywhere and we never miss a beat.

Jamaica College Again, On The Double

December 23, 2007
Started By Gates1 Comments
MANNING CUP champions Jamaica College (JC) claimed their second title of the season when they defeated daCosta Cup winners Garvey Maceo 2-0 to win their second Olivier Shield crown at the National Stadium yesterday.

The Old Hope Road-based school, who earlier this month won the Manning Cup for the first time in 33 years, were propelled to victory through second-half goals from Anthony Grant (59th) and Robert Palmer (88th).

Alfred Henry, the coach of JC who is in his final season with the team after three years at the helm, credited his side's success to hard word and dedication.

"This is a great bunch of players and you couldn't ask for better because they were disciplined from the beginning to the end. They are a wonderful set of boys," said Henry.

"Whenever, you get a job to do, you just have to do it to the best of your ability and we did that and it paid off," he said.

Garvey Maceo were seeking a triple crown for the first time to go along with the daCosta Cup and Ben Francis KO trophies.

Lack of fitness

Coach Jeffrey Hewitt blamed his team's downfall on a lack of fitness.

"As a result of the amount of games that we have been playing for the past couple of weeks, I expected my players to be a bit tired," said Hewitt.

"I asked them at half-time what was the problem and they said that they were really tired, but I say congrats to the JC team because they came and played like they wanted it. So, hats off to them," he said.

"I am really glad for the guys in terms of our achievements because we thought the Olivier Shield would be bonus for us. We wanted to win the daCosta Cup and we did and so I must say thanks to God."

JC dominated possession in the first period and created numerous clear-cut chances but were let down due to poor finishing from the likes of Grant, Akeem Bennett and Kemar Bedward.

Garvey Maceo's captain, Ashton Bennett, got the best chance for his team in the period but, after getting by three JC defenders, his shot hit the crossbar.

JC continued their dominance in the second period and were finally rewarded when Grant fired home a powerful point-blank strike past custodian Andre Lindsay.

JC continued to control play and when Palmer rose above three Garvey Maceo defenders to head home a right cross from Bedward two minutes from fulltime it was all over for the Clarendon team.

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1050 Controversial dancehall songstress Barbee has lost a lot of loyal fans from the sunshine city of Portmore because of comments she made recently on a television interview on HYPE-TV.

According to our sources the people of Portmore have not taken too kindly to comments made by Barbee recently on HYPE-TV during and interview, when she was asked about her career and somehow the subject of pets came into the equation. She said "Oh my dog's name is Sparkles", little does she know of the rising young artiste from Portmore unfortunately with the same name.

Now with that said the question is, Seeing that Barbee is NOT a Jamaican and NOT very familiar with the names and faces of Dancehall was it just a honest answer or a subliminal swipe at Sparkles (the artiste)?. Even if she honestly meant nothing by it "Sparkles" management is extremely cut up about the comment and think it was an intended diss to their artiste.

On a recent visit to the sunshine city, people in the dancehall fraternity were overhead saying "How the broad face Iguana looking gyal coulda come a Jamaica a come diss portmore artiste suh if she eva come ova yah ...a straight boo she a get just like dutty D'Angel".

We at 876radio.com would like to think it was a honest mistake, but I guess that is just a matter of opinion, however for those of you who might be wondering who is Sparkles she is a young upcoming artiste from Portmore that sings the song titled "Inna Mi Ting", We have embedded a photo from Bembe Anniversary where we last caught up with the deejay.

Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant??

NEW YORK - Another Spears baby is reportedly on the way and it's not Britney's. Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old "Zoey 101" star and sister of Britney, told OK! magazine that she's pregnant and that the father is her boyfriend, Casey Aldridge.

"It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected," she said. "I was in complete and total shock and so was he."

Spears is 12 weeks along and initially kept the news to herself when she learned of the pregnancy from an at-home test and subsequent doctor visit, she told the celebrity magazine, which hits stands in New York on Wednesday and the rest of the country by Friday.

What message does she want to send to other teens about premarital sex? "I definitely don't think it's something you should do; it's better to wait," she told the magazine. "But I can't be judgmental because it's a position I put myself in."

After she found out from a doctor that she was pregnant, she said, "I took two weeks to myself where I didn't tell anybody."

"Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone's opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me," she said.

Spears broke the news to her mother, Lynne, just before Thanksgiving, the magazine reported.

"She was very upset because it wasn't what she expected at all," Spears said. "A week after, she had time to cope with it and became very supportive."

Lynne Spears, already grandmother to Britney's young sons, told the magazine: "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

She said her actress daughter, the telegenic heroine of her popular Nickelodeon series, has known Aldridge for years and began dating him in high school.

But in a recent interview with The Associated Press, Spears said she had no steady boyfriend. "I kind of just keep my options open," she said. "I have a bunch of friends that I always hang out with, a bunch of guy friends." She declined to talk about her older sister.

Spears spoke to the AP shortly before Thanksgiving, the day she told OK! she informed her mother about the pregnancy.

Jamie Lynn plans to raise the baby in her home state of Louisiana "so it can have a normal family life."

Nickelodeon released a statement: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

A publicist for the network did not immediately respond to phone and e-mail requests for additional comment.

"Zoey 101" is scheduled to conclude its third season Jan. 4 with a cliffhanger episode in which Spears' character must decide whether to leave her fictional Pacific Coast Academy boarding school in California to join her parents in London.

The show is scheduled to resume in February, and its producer, Dan Schneider, has said filming on the fourth season has already been completed.

You may have heard about Smith Mansion Entertainment, a new entertainment outfit that has been focusing on breaking new acts and re-establishing old proven acts like veteran singer Pat Kelly, formerly of the Techniques.

Tyrone Smith, the chief executive officer of Smith Mansion, has an overarching vision of building a competitive record music production label with both proven veterans and neophytes. So far he has done a pretty good job, amassing an excellent collection of bouncy singles from a range of young acts, and well-produced, artfully mixed creations from a veteran artiste. The best of the lot include the catchy Beat It featuring Hollow Point, Golden Rama and Rally Bop. The single appears on a laid-back reggae-dancehall rhythm where these young *lo**s spit rhymes about tough inner city life in Jamaica and the phrase beat it refers to the firing of a gun.

One of the singles creating a definite buzz is Rally Bops The Story which recounts a robbery attempt by three males, one of whom is not particularly bright, and which has an accompanying video which is doing quite well in Jamaica.

One876Entertainment.com also listened to a number of singles from Pat Kelly of I'm In The Mood For Love which has been covered by a lot of local artistes. Excellent songs such as the rocksteady-dancehall hybrid remake of How Long, Why Why and If Some Miracle are must haves for anyone who loves lovers rock music.

Pat Kelly said that Smith Mansion CEO Tyrone Smith had heard his voice for several years and finally decided to meet him in person, and then expressed an interest in working with Kelly.
Tyrone Smith, asked me to re-record several of my songs and also work on some new material for his label. I think this was a good chance to capture a wider audience, since many of the persons who know my songs don't know I did them or what I look like. I really appreciated it, and so I'm into a new era again, Pat Kelly said in a recent interview.

Music fans over 50 will remember Pat Kelly's distinctive smooth vocals soaring over the impeccable harmonies of Bruce Ruffin and Winston Riley who were at the controls back in the days when the late Slim Smith was the lead vocalist. Other standout singles include Jah is Good by singer Robert Ffrench a cousin of Pat Kelly, Call on Jah Luciano and Rally Bop and Bag a Bills Prince Theo

Look out for Smith Mansion Entertainment, making rock-solid music and building its own concrete legacy in the reggae community.

UTech student gunned down

The promising future of yet another Jamaican youth has been cut short.

Diondra Morris, 21-year-old second-year student at the University of Technology (UTech), was fatally shot at the gate of her boarding facility in Papine, St. Andrew, as she made her way home with a group of friends from a fête on the university's campus early yesterday morning.

Another student also received three bullet wounds in the incident and has been hospitalised.

According to reports, the females were being escorted by three males about 3:35 yesterday morning when two men approached. The students ran and the men opened fire, killing Morris and injuring the other.

Students afraid

The incident has left students at the boarding facility shocked and afraid. The facility accommodates a number of UTech and University of the West Indies students.

"Everybody is scared, and the fact that it happened in front of the gate makes you fear that they might just come back," one female student, who did not want to be identified, told The Sunday Gleaner.

The incident has left the UTech community outraged and calling for urgent measures to ease the spate of crimes occurring across the country.

Nearly 1,500 people have been murdered so far this year, averaging some 41 murders a week since September.

According to UTech spokesman Hector Wheeler, there have been other reports of students and staff being held up in and around Papine.

"The violence has really escalated to an alarming level and we are very concerned about the welfare of our university community," he said.

UTech investigating

Wheeler disclosed that the institution was conducting its own investigations into the matter with a view to implementing new security measures to ensure the improved safety of students and staff off campus. The university, he said, also has been offering counselling to affected students and relatives.

No motive has been established for the shooting, which the Half-Way Tree Criminal Investigation Bureau has been probing.

Elsewhere on the crime scene, Lesley Morant, a 65-year-old contractor, and an executive member of the Opposition People's National Party North West St. James constituency, was gunned down at his home in Irwin, St. James, on Friday night.

Fast rising dancehall artist Munga and Portmores star Deva Bratt gave fans a taste of what to expect at Sting 2007 after both artistes got into a crucial fist fight on stage at Stone Love anniversary party held at Mass Camp.

It was in the wee hours of the morning when Gangsta Ras Munga hits the stage and before he could get the chance to thrill the over thousand fans with his 'vocoda' sound style Deva Bratt walked onstage. One of Mungas right hand men then entered the stage as well but was tossed off the stage by Deva Bratt. Munga then realised whats going and immediately got in a fist fight with Deva Bratt but the fist fight almost becomes a *lo**y scene if security personnel were not in time to disarmed Mungas of his knife.
