Rebel Salute 2008 was launched at the Hilton Kingston Hotel last night, and by all indications, the Port Kaiser Sports Club in St. Elizabeth will be host to another dynamic mixture of Reggae music, past, present and future.

tony_rebel.jpg

The event is the flagship event of Reggae icon, Tony Rebel, and it is his company, Flames Production in association with Trade Winds Citrus who staged the event.

ernie smith.jpg

The show is being touted as the "The night of Rebel Salute generations." Promoters have promised that three Jamaican musical dynasties, currently in the making, will take to the stage.

aaron_silk.jpg

Look out for Jimmy Riley and his son Tarrus, Junior Reid and his two sons, Wada and Andrew *lo**, and Tony Rebel and Junior Rebel. Though Reggae music is Jamaican in origin, it is also global, hence, visitors from around the world who make the pilgrimage to Port Kaiser, will witness Bermudan dancehall act Collie Buddz, armed with the hits, "Come Around" and "Mamacita." Other first timers to Rebel Salute will include Ini Kamoze, the group Chalice, Ernie Smith, Pluto Shervington, Busy Signal, Errol Dunkley and I-Octane.

Staples of the event such as Luciano, Queen Ifrica and Capleton are certain to "scorch" lyrically.

queen_ifrica.jpg

Rebel salute was launched in 1994, just one day before Tony Barrett's (Tony Rebel) birthday, at the Fayer's Entertainment Centre in Mandeville. The 1994 staging was attended by former World Heavy Weight Boxing Champion, Lennox Lewis, and actor Malik Yoba.

t_linen.jpg

Contrary to contemporary culture, Rebel Salute maintains a "no alcohol policy"; yet, Port Kaiser is always flocked by people amounting to as much as 30,000. This 2008 staging is expected to be supported mightily as well.

Beenie Man's normal day

Beenie and daughter, Desha. - Ian Allen

Trips with the kids

Medical visits with grandmom

Chilling at studio

Rapping with artistes

For one of Jamaica's top entertainers who has managed to maintain a strong presence on the local scene for over a decade, Beenie Man would have many persons thinking that his typical day would be a very hectic one, filled with work and always on the go.

However, when THE STAR team linked up with Beenie Man at his office/studio along Mannings Hill Road last Thursday, it was much different. In fact, 'the doctor' spent most of his day with family and friends.

Hanging with dad

School was out and so his six-year-old daughter, Desha, was hanging out with her dad for the day.

She didn't speak much, but displayed much love and fondness towards her father as she sat on his leg and played in his hair.

After hanging out at his office with fellow artistes, Nittie Kutchie and Predator, Beenie Man then sped off in his brand new Mitsubishi Spider to link up with a few more of his friends at the Exodus studio on Red Hills Road.

"Every day mi deh yah suh (Exodus studio). Either wi chill out yah suh or up a Gary Exodus house, or up a my studio a 357," Beenie said as he spoke with artistes Guidance, Action K, Blacktalant and others.

Recalling his experience at a recently held Weddy Weddy Wednesday session, Beenie said he only spoke his mind, as he was in disagreement about their selection of the deejay of the year at Stone Love anniversary.

"How must you give Mavado deejay of di year? Mi ask who get singer a di year, dem sey Tarrus Riley. Suh mi sey a two singer get awarded," Beenie argued.

During the conversation, Beenie's daughter interrupted, reminding her father that he was supposed to drop her at school for practice and that they were to attend a surprise birthday party for Courtney Walsh's daughter later on.

Out of time

With that said, 'the doctor' wrapped up his conversation as time was now against him.

But in explaining to THE STAR his typical day, Beenie says his days are rather boring.

"From mi lef mi yard, guh a studio, buy some food, a jus my day dat. Other than that, pon di weekends mi deh a work," Beenie said.

Next stop Beenie said, was to "take my grandmother to visit the eye doctor, pick up Moses (his son) and carry him to football training and carry mi daughter guh netball training."

But pretty much, Beenie says, "a jus straight family mi deal wid throughout di day and work."

Cops charged with murder

The four, Noel Bryan, Phillip Dunstan, Clayton Fearon and Omar Miller, were charged after an October ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions when they appeared in Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday.

The officers are charged in connection with the controversial shooting of 19-year-old André Thomas in the Grants Pen community, on September 28.

Relatives of the deceased youth made statements which summarised that he was killed in cold *lo** by the officers, but initial police reports stated that he was killed in a shoot-out.

The policemen were previously charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice after they were accused of trying to carry out repair work to their patrol vehicle following allegations that the teen was shot in the vehicle while on his way to hospital.

Lead attorney Jacqueline Samuels-Brown argued that the cops were charged because of public pressure and reports carried in the media.

The men were each offered bail in the sum of $1 million and are booked to return to court on January 8.

Getting pregnant won’t keep the man

Damn if I do and damn if I don't. People, people, please read the article carefully before you start to put words into my mouth! I am amazed at some of the comments and I have to wonder...did I imply that!

Sorry if I am stepping on a few toes in this article but I am tired of women getting pregnant in an effort to lure the man from his upfront woman.

The lengths some women will go to in competing to keep what's not hers. Every time the man's ligit woman get pregnant, the matey pregnant too! Give me a break here, what's the catch anyway. Yeah we done know the man wutless aready, but does that mean you have to be
a breeding box just to keep a hol' on him?

It's sad and sickening to see these women without pride doing everything to hang on to a man thats not even theirs.

I am a woman, but I wish I could get inside their heads to figure out what kind of satisfaction they derive knowing they are having these men 'outside children' that the man can't even let his wife know about. He has to hide and carry the smalls come and give to you. Many times you begging him to stay over and just sleep the whole night with you...because he is trying to hide the fact from his wife that he has another woman.

Where is the satisfaction when you have two or three kids and the man can't even come to some of the big events such school plays, soccer match etc...next thing wifey gets suspicious.

What kind of victory you think you have over the wife even if you have kids for the man and his wife don't?

If you were so damn hot, how come the man not signing divorce papers and popping the question to you? Or come he is hanging on for dear life to the woman he is referring to as his 'upfront' woman and you are still perched on the sidelines?

Wake up women! Come on have some pride and give yourselves more rating than that. Just because the man wants to have his cake and eat it too doesn't mean that you have to be his meal.

Children are the most beautiful gifts that God could ever give, but don't tarnish their beauty by having this stigma hanging over their heads.

Yeah, mi back broad, suh cuss if you want, but done the baby competition ting, "pickney caan hol' man again!"

Paying for time

Dear Pastor,

I will be 16 years old soon. I was asked a question that I never thought a male would ask me. The exact words were, "Have your boyfriend ever performed oral sex on you?"

Pastor, I was so shocked that someone would ask me that, especially a friend of mine. He also told me he would pay me a fee of $3,000 and I should tell him the place and time.

Pastor, my question to you is, should I accept his offer? Am I the one being exposed to HIV?

L.B., Ontario, Canada

Dear L. B,

This man you consider to be your friend is out of order and what you should have done was to tell him to get lost, and immediately drop him as your friend. His purpose is to buy sex from you and to make you feel like a prostitute. You shouldn't even ask me whether you should accept his offer. That is something you shouldn't even consider at all. Tell him if he wants to buy sex, he should offer money to someone else and not you.

DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Shoes and other equipment filled 4-foot-high bins in the Miami Dolphins' locker room Monday, signaling the start of the offseason.

Another sign: upheaval in the offices upstairs.

The Dolphins' latest shake-up began before noon when new boss Bill Parcells fired general manager Randy Mueller and two other members of the player personnel staff. Jeff Ireland, vice president of college and pro scouting for the Dallas Cowboys, was the front-runner to replace Mueller and confirmed he was flying Tuesday to South Florida for an interview.

Still undetermined was the future of coach Cam Cameron, who went 1-15 in his first year as an NFL head coach. He awaited a fateful meeting with Parcells.

"There's going to be an opportunity in the next few days to sit down and talk with Bill," Cameron said. "We'll treat it as an exchange between two guys who want to see the Miami Dolphins be successful, and what it's going to take to do that."

Sweeping changes are anticipated from Parcells, a two-time Super Bowl champion coach who began work last week as executive vice president of football operations. He started by firing Mueller, assistant director of player personnel Mike Baugh and college scouting coordinator Rick Thompson.

The departures came less than a year after owner Wayne Huizenga gave Mueller and Cameron responsibility for rebuilding the Dolphins.

"Any time you have a relationship with somebody you care about, it's tough," Cameron said. "But we all know this is a tough business, and we've been through a tough year."

Only an overtime win against Baltimore two weeks ago prevented the Dolphins from becoming the NFL's first 0-16 team. Instead they're the eighth team to finish 1-15.

A rich franchise legacy that includes Don Shula, Dan Marino and the perfect season was forever tarnished by a season that made the Dolphins a national laughingstock. They lost to two quarterbacks who had been busts in Miami, Daunte Culpepper and A.J. Feeley. They lost twice to the woeful New York Jets. They also lost twice to New England, and even once in England.

The season was the sorry culmination of a long, slow decline. Three coaching changes since 2004 have failed to reverse the slide, and the Dolphins will sit out the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year, extending a franchise record.

"Are there certain things you would like to see changed? Absolutely," said defensive end Jason Taylor, Miami's lone Pro Bowl player. "I think any player in that locker room would say the same thing. There are certain things that do need to change that aren't set up for us to succeed. It's not an indictment or a knock against anybody, but it is what it is."

As a post-mortem, Cameron held a team meeting Monday that ended with a five-minute speech to the players by Parcells.

"I think he just wanted to introduce himself and give them a feel for some things to think about going into the offseason," Cameron said.

"My first impression of him is he's a guy who means business," cornerback Will Allen said. "You've got to respect him. If anybody can get this thing turned around, he can definitely help us."

Parcells didn't talk to reporters, and the firings of Mueller and his two aides were announced in a two-paragraph news release. It was unclear whether Ireland, if hired, would take over before the April draft.

Mueller was general manager for three seasons but in charge of personnel decisions only since coach Nick Saban left a year ago. He received mixed reviews for his moves in 2007, which included the acquisition of free-agent linebacker Joey Porter and the selection of receiver Ted Ginn Jr. and quarterback John Beck in the draft.

In the wake of Mueller's firing, Cameron expressed optimism about returning for a second season.

"I'm accountable to the situation we're in," Cameron said. "If we're not sitting here in this situation, none of this happens. If we win games, none of this happens. I'm charged with that, and I accept the responsibility.

"However, it is a great opportunity with Bill Parcells coming here. You know how much respect I do have for him. The fact he's here with the Miami Dolphins I see as a positive."

As the losses mounted this season, Cameron's relationship with Taylor and other veterans became strained. He had an argument last week with nose tackle Keith Traylor about a confrontation involving Traylor and two teammates on the flight home from a game Dec. 23. Traylor was not at Sunday's season finale against Cincinnati.

But following a 38-25 loss to the Bengals, several players said they hope Cameron returns in 2008.

"God willing," running back Jesse Chatman said. "Coach Cameron is better than people think he is. He needs a chance to show what a good coach he is."

The transformation of the Dolphins into the NFL's worst team resulted from a decade of poor personnel decisions, and a wave of injuries compounded Cameron's problems. Still, from draft day until the final game, he made plenty of decisions that invited second-guessing.

The new coach drew boos at a team draft party defending the choice of Ginn in the first round. And as recently as Sunday, he declined to challenge a 70-yard touchdown pass by the Bengals, even though TV replays showed the receiver stepping out of bounds at the 4-yard line.

Whoever coaches the Dolphins in 2008, there's the foundation for a turnaround. Five rookies played substantial roles on offense this season, and Miami will have the top pick and two second-round choices in the April draft.

Still, a revamping of the roster is inevitable once Parcells completes his upstairs shake-up. Porter is among those who hope to be back next season.

"I've seen the worst of the worst, so I've got to be here when it gets good," Porter said. "They bring Parcells in, and everybody knows he's a great football mind who knows talent. It has to be a good thing."

Thousands of guns which were seized will be destroyed Monday in an operation that will be carried out by the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The operation will take place in Kingston, later Monday morning.

The weapons will be transported to the location under heavy security provided by members of the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

The operation which is the fourth of its kind since the year 2000 involves the guns being placed into a smelter and burnt.

The burning of the weapons lasts for at least seven hours.

After the guns are melted the iron left behind is used for more productive purposes.

There have been calls from some quarters that the guns taken off the country's streets be used by the police force instead of being destroyed.

However no such policy has been forthcoming.
Monday is the deadline for application forms to be submitted for the 2008 Canadian and US overseas worker programme.

Earlier this month, Labour Minister, Pearnel Charles called on Parliamentarians to submit recommendations for their constituents to participate in the programme.

In years gone by some MPs were barred from recommending persons for the programme because many of them absconded and remained in the US illegally.

Persons recommended for the programme must be between 22 and 45 years old, literate, of good character and health and must not have been charged with an offence or been deported from any country.

Beenie Man booed at Weddy Weddy

December 31, 2007

passed through Weddy Weddy this morning. A lot of people were in the venue, a lot of the conversations revolved around the fight between Deva Bratt and Munga, but as usual Beenie Man found some way to steal the spotlight. He went on the microphone and asked why Stone Love had chosen to give Mavado the deejay of the year title when it was clear that Mavado was a singer. While he certainly had a point, he chose the wrong forum and method to communicate his message.

"Weh de *lo**cloth yu a deal wid Wee Pow, no disrespect, but Mavado is not a deejay, him is a singer.....so wha happen to my trophy?" he asked.

The crowd, at first shocked at the outburst, soon recovered their senses enough to begin to boo him. One girl even quipped that he was acting like the 'idiot of the year'.

Wee Pow seemed to be quite surprised by the Doctor's emtional outburst as well.

Later on, Matterhorn lightly scolded the deejay for making these statements saying as the self-proclaimed king of the dancehall, surely he did not need that title. We would tend to agree.

Admit it women, many of you don't enjoy sex with your mates as you would like and you are just enduring it because you don't have the nerve to tell him he does absolutely nothing for you! But how long can you stay in that relationship looking into the ceiling every time he climbs atop you? Trust me, that am not a healthy way to live, and it certainly offers you little pleasure.

Yeah, yeah, you can talk, so what can I do about it, he is a great guy otherwise and he is truly caring and he makes me feel like a million bucks (just not in the bedroom). Should I walk away from him when I can always pleasure myself later by masturbating?

We are not saying you should walk away from your man, but you don't have to 'endure' either. It's time to address that all important area in your relationship. If the guy is as great as you think then he won't mind you having a heart-to-heart with him right? Remember though that he is a man and therefore his emotions are fragile. Don't just blurt out that you have been pretending all along. Just tell him that you have some great ideas for making sex more enjoyable for both of you.

Maybe one of the reasons you have been so unaffected by his lovemaking is that he is not getting to the core of you. You have masturbated and even if you have not been so adventurous, you still know your body more than he ever will. So here are some tips that might make love making more enjoyable for you.

Invite your man to watch you masturbate. He should learn a thing or two watching your expression as you touch certain areas of your body and if he doesn't get the point, talk to him as you go along. Tell him exactly what it does for you when he touches the clitoris, or anywhere that really excites you. You could tell him that you love it when it is touched a certain way (of course, you will be demonstrating this as you go along!). Note, this is only for those who are comfortable with their man as well as their
bodies!

Just to ensure that he doesn't think you have a problem with his lovemaking, ask him if he has any preferences; or if there is something you can do to make sex more enjoyable for him. Then you can in turn tell him your preferences and what really turns you on.

The next time you make love, take it step by step. Tell him you would like to try something new. Start off by just kissing, playing with each other, exploring your bodies with your lips and hands. Don't rush into penetration. You would be amazed how turned on you can get by heavy petting. Trading light kisses, sucking each other's nipples, playful bites, you know the drift...just enjoy the build up.

By now you must be wet and ready for that final step and if you aren't, continue petting until you think you are. Some positions do little for you, so if the one he is doing doesn't work, tell him! If you like it hard and fast, don't be afraid to request it. If you prefer the slow, leisurely strokes, then tell him too. Whatever works for you, be open about it. It is your life and you should enjoy it.

Too many women are suffering in silence as they think it is not 'proper' to talk about such issues. There is enough stress in life as it is, so don't make a martyr out of yourself. In the long run, your man will appreciate your honesty as the experience will be even better for him too. Who knows, he might have been having a problem with you pleasuring him and your candidness opened the door to a fulfilling experience for both of you.

He will never lay his eyes on his first grandchild. What should have been one of his greatest New Year gifts will never be his. Peter Yee and three of his children should have left Jamaica on Thursday to visit his granddaughter, which his eldest child bore him.

Peter Yee's family is now only left with the memories of a man who cared for everyone. The mystery of his death is even harder for the family to deal with, as they might never be certain of how it actually occurred.

"There are only speculations, nobody knows what happened," said Andrea Yee, widow of the deceased.

Mr. Yee died after he was pinned between a truck and a wrecker after the truck allegedly rolled back on him while he worked outside. After the incident, his two-year-old son who was left in the truck was later found coming from under the wrecker covered in dirt, Mrs. Yee told The STAR as she repeated what she heard from another person who was present when the accident occurred.

Efforts to start the truck after the incident to remove Mr. Yee's body were unsuccessful, which Mrs. Yee believes is proof that the child did not start the truck as is being speculated.

The Constabulary Communications Network (CCN) had earlier reported that the 46-year-old businessman died after the child managed to switch on the ignition which caused the Leyland truck to roll back and pin Mr. Yee between that truck and a parked Volvo truck. He sustained injuries and was taken to the Linstead Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Fondly remembered

While Mr. Yee, a haulage contractor, is no longer here for his four children and wife, he is fondly remembered.

"He was a good father, a kind person. He was everything. I don't have words to describe him as a father and husband," said Mrs. Yee, as she described the man she fell in love with nearly 10 years ago. Next March would have been the 10th year of their marriage. "He is a great husband and a family provider."

According to Mrs. Yee, her husband's love for his children was insurmountable. "He cares a lot and loves his children to death and if he's to come back to life, he would do the same thing," she said, while speaking to The STAR at home in Ewarton, St. Catherine.

While she greaves her husband's death, Mrs. Yee said she is hurting more because of the fact that persons are casting blame on the child for his father's death. "It grieves me when people a talk things an' a seh how the pickney a guh live wid himself wen him know seh him kill him daddy," she said.

Mr. Yee had two daughters and two sons, the sons being the eldest and the youngest of his four children. The child in question was very "privileged" as said by his mother. He was everywhere with his father, explaining the reason for him being with his father on the day of his death. "He loves him very much. He carries him everywhere," said Mrs. Yee.

Mr. Yee was not only loved by his family. Elvira Edwards-Harris, who worked with Mr. Yee for almost 10 years, described him as a good man. "He is just nice and good. There is nothing at all you ask and he doesn't do. He has nothing too good not to give to you," she said of the man.

She said he was also not a quarrelsome man. He never failed to offer a greeting to someone when he passed on the road, she said. His death has greatly affected her. "From I hear, it come like mi heart come out. I feel it man," she said.

Another friend recalled that Mr. Yee was a community man who was respected and loved. "He was like an icon in the district," she told The STAR. Mrs. Yee said her husband will be best remembered for as a kind and jovial person

Sting never lived up to expectations

The word on the street is that Guinness Sting failed to live up to expectations. According to reports from some of the patrons their was no 'bite' in this year's staging.

Beenie Man's presence was definitely lacking as his charisma and the energy he brings to the fore would definitely be more than welcomed.

That aside there were some winners for the night Ninja Man without a doubt lived up to what was expected of him and then some. He gave a super charged performance and had the crowd going with his incisive lyrics and comical stance on stage.

edit_pictorial2.jpg

The veterans such as Josey Wales and George Nooks held their own also.

Prestige had a field day especially with the song that has been doing well for him now 'Wi Nuh Trust Dem.'

And the artiste that has many tongues still wagging is Mavado who was slated to perform at 12:45 but actually never hit the stage until minutes to 4 am. He was in total control of the crowd with lyrical loaded ammunition such as "Full Clip," "Weh Dem A Sey," "Bawl Dem A Bawl" among others. But what he received rating for is the fact that he took time out of his performance to hail up Vybz Kartel and we all know the drama there!

Giving good account of themselves at Guinness Sting were Jigsy King, Cutty Corn, Captain Barkey and Wickerman, Assassin, Bugle and Busy Signal.

edit_pictorial3_.jpg

Bounty Killer who was slated to closed the show did not but before leaving the stage he referred to Beenie Man as 'Fisheenie.' He did his thing, along with his twin counterpart K Queens.

Vybz Kartel and the Portmore Empire closed the show with a not so stunning perfomance and brought the curtains down on what wasn't a very exciting night.

Next year promoters need to adhere to the running order and ensure that there is some semblance of proper organization in place.

Babymother drama

have been reading your column and I am hoping that you can help me. I am a 22-year-old woman living in the United Kingdom, but originally I am from U.S.A. My problem is that when I was living in U.S.A. I fell in love with a guy who I believe is my soulmate. Some people might say that we were too young, but we dated for a few months, then unfortunately my family moved to Manchester, United Kingdom. I have been living here for the past eight years. We kept in touch and told each other how much we love each other and that there was no one else. I returned to U.S.A. last Christmas to visit friends and family. While I was there, we met up a couple of times. When I first laid eyes on him again, I knew that my feelings were the same as the day I met him and we were in love all over again. We slept together the first day and every day after that. After about a week, he told me that he has a girlfriend who was a couple months pregnant. I was upset, but I could not afford to lose him. He told me that he was with her because she was 'breeding'. We spoke about it and decided to work around it 'for now'. She found out that I was in U.S.A. and then searched my ex's phone and started to call me, saying nasty things which I deserved. But I love him and I also don't want to hurt her. He then told me that they are over and that we are together, but she can stay at his house. After I left U.S.A. we spoke every day and night. Then his babymother found out that I was calling him and started sending me text messages, which turned into some nasty phone calls. I called him and told him to talk with her. This girl started to get really obsessive. She told me that we can share him if I want to. Then I found out that they were back together. I told him that I knew. He tried to call me a few times, but I didn't answer. I eventually decided to return his call. Then she started calling me again, but this time she took his phone from him, so every time I would call him, she would answer. Help me, pastor. I think what she doesn't know won't hurt her. C. G., England, United Kingdom Dear C. G., You must help yourself by walking away from this man. He had a good time with you when you met. You slept together for days and it was long after that he told you that his girlfriend was pregnant. I don't know why you are fighting over this man. He is not a man of integrity. What do you hope to gain from this man and the relationship? Why curse his child's mother? If you have any pride at all, you would end the relationship with this man and be at peace with yourself.

Four cops charged with teen's murder

Four policemen were yesterday charged with the murder of 19-year-old André Thomas of Grants Pen, St. Andrew, when they appeared in the Half-Way Tree Criminal Court.

They are scheduled to reappear in court on January 8.

The four are Noel Bryan, Phillip Dunstan, Clayton Fearon and Omar Miller. The four policemen were charged after an October ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Thomas was shot under controversial circumstances on September 28.

The shooting had drawn the ire of the residents of Grants Pen who for days staged demonstrations protesting what they described as cold-*lo**ed murder.

According to initial police reports, members of a police party were on patrol in the Grants Pen community when they saw a group of men acting suspiciously.

On the approach of the lawmen, one of the men allegedly pointed a firearm at them; the police took evasive action and opened fire hitting one of them. A Raven .25 automatic pistol with the serial number erased and a magazine containing five .25 cartridges was reportedly found in Thomas' possession. The other men at the scene ran and made good their escape.

Residents' story

However, residents rejected this story and said that a group of men was sitting on a shop piazza on the gully side, when a group of policemen approached them and started to question them.

The residents said the police ordered them out of their house, but when Thomas refused, police started to abuse him. The residents said that during Thomas' protest he was shot. Residents also said that Thomas received additional bullet wounds other to the ones he left the scene of the incident with.

Following the protests, controversy deepened as the four policemen disobeyed an order to return the service vehicle to the Police High Command. The four were ordered arrested by the DPP.

They were yesterday each offered bail in the sum of $1 million. More than 260 persons have been killed by the police in shootings this year.

Meanwhile, Nancy Anderson, human rights lawyer with the Independent Jamaican Council for Human Rights, has welcomed the development in the case, saying that it should be the procedure in all cases.

"We have been calling for proper investigation and bringing persons before the court to prove whether they are guilty or not," she told The Gleaner. That is what should be done when there is a death which appears to be a murder," she said.

Ninjaman devastates Sting 07

December 29, 2007
Started By linko5 Comments
After Harry Toddlers energetic set with songs like We No Waan No Friend From Dem was cut short after his use of a Jamaican expletive, Ninjaman thrilled the large Jamworld crowd with a performance that was great in parts.

Ninjaman.jpgHitting the stage in a white and gold tunic that looked like the garb worn by 4th century Chinese warriors and carrying a staff, Ninjaman paused to soak in the adulation of the crowd. He then made a reference to largely complimentary comments made about him by Bounty Killer during a recent television interview.

Remember when me a cokehead? Remember dem tings deh? Now mi put down the cokehead ting and tek up mi career and yuh waan beg friend, he said, before deejaying a lyric with the punchline, Killer never bruk a war, him never do a ting.

Then he did a neat hip movement to the bassline as fire crackers exploded and fire torches lit the night sky. Someone in the crowd suggested that he kill Mavado. He disagreed emphatically.

No, ah not killing Mavado, Im going to teach him because him have Bounty Killer as a father so him need the proper teaching, he said, before corrected Mavado on the lyric "squeeze har nipple like the trigger of a gun".

He exited the stage and the crowd screamed for more Ninja.

He returned in a mean mood.

Mr. Laing never diss me, but yuh have some mowly arm security bwoy, the tinking arm bwoy dem weh work wid Charlie Chaplin, he said, to screams of laughter from the crowd.

He then deejayed mi buss mi gun go ragga ragga.

He then called on child sensation Mumzelle to deejay. One female observed that Mumzelle start buss breast now. Mumzelle earned a forward by deejaying that Ninja gi Adams the gun because it old and rusty

After sending off Mumzelle, Ninjaman then spoiled what up to that time had been a masterful performance. Although he had disappointed the crowd at GT Taylors Magnum Xtravaganza the night before with an ill-conceived song about having sex with Barbee only to have Beenie come knocking at the door, the seasoned deejay insisted on repeating the song, which lacked the kind of lyrical dexterity that Ninja is known for.

He exited the stage with a stern warning that he would return if any deejay called up his name.

CASH PLUS BARRED

December 29, 2007
Started By Rakeem4 Comments
The Financial Services Commission (FSC) yesterday issued cease-and-desist orders on th investment scheme Cash Plus, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carlos Hill and Kahlil Harris. The order has come days after a ruling by the Supreme Court against other investment schemes - Olint and LewFam - which stated that their activities were seen as the business of investment under the ambit of the law and as such the FSC had the power to oversee their operations. Far-reaching implications This ruling had implications for other investment schemes, as the FSC could proceed against others which were deemed to be resistant to its offer to register their activities. The FSC said that its decision taken against Cash Plus was based on investigations it conducted. According to a statement from the FSC, based on its own investigations, the principals of Cash Plus "have been engaged in securities activities in breach of sections 7 and 10 of the Securities Act. Section 7 of the act prohibits the carrying on of a securities business without being licensed as a securities dealer by the FSC". Section 10 of the act prohibits an individual from carrying out the functions of a dealer's representative without first being registered for that purpose by the FSC. The Securities Act requires persons who issue securities to be registered. The act also requires that persons who deal in securities be licensed as securities dealers. Yesterday's cease-and-desist order issued by the FSC demands that "Cash Plus Ltd. et al immediately stop conducting securities business, including soliciting and accepting loans with members of the public until Cash Plus is licensed by the FSC". A demand was also made for Kahlil Harris to stop carrying out functions as a dealer's representative or holding himself out as a dealer's representative unless and until he is registered with the FSC. The FSC said that failure to stop these activities is an offence under section 68(7) of the act and is punishable upon conviction by a fine or imprisonment or both. Cash Plus has been at the centre of much controversy recently, as it came under intense pressure from financial regulatory authorities and commercial banks. Just last month, the FSC wrote to the company demanding financial information, including the location of its assets. After some delay, a report was submitted by Cash Plus, however FSC officials said it failed to provide much of the information that was requested. Suspicious funds It was also reported that some financial institutions had taken an apparent decision to report as suspicious, all funds that came to them through what they described as "unregistered schemes" as allowed under the Money Laundering Act. In November, at least one bank issued circulars to its employees warning that they should be on the lookout for customer transactions involving such organisations. It was argued by investors of Cash Plus that financial institutions were conspiring to "get rid of the competition". Cash Plus is among the most visible of a slew of institutions, that have sprung up in Jamaica in recent years, inviting people to put cash with them, and offering returns of up to 200 per cent a year.
findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1064 In a private meeting held earlier today, the promoters of the greatest one night show on earth, STING issued several warnings to artistes, vendor and patrons slated to participate in the event.

The promoters who were obviously in a no nonsense mode, said that this year staging of the event will have the highest security details the event has ever seen.

According to Howard 'Big Mac' McIntosh "We are trying to stick to the theme which is 'Promoting Unity in the Music' and therefore we are adapting a zero tolerance policy towards violence amongst the artiste and patrons this year". He went on to outline a number of rules and regulations that will be implemented and must be adhered to by everyone in attendance, that includes the artiste as well.

Here are a few:

1. Every single solitary soul, entering the venue will be searched regardless of their status including the promoters

2. No weapons will be allowed at the event unless special permission is granted and that has to be applied for and approved before the event date.

3. No Illegal contraband (including weed), Firearms or other dangerous projectiles will be allowed in the venue

4. No Fire cracker, or other forms of fireworks (including aerosol cans) will be allowed if found or caught they will be seized, as for the fire cracker that is deemed illegal under the Jamaican law and patrons found with this item will be prosecuted.

5. All legal firearms holders should leave them at home or leave it for safe keeping at the hundred man police station in Portmore or a Police station of their choice, otherwise if found the holder will not be allowed entry into the event.

6. Patrons will not have access to any bottles, as all drinks will be served in plastic cups even water.

7. No entourage will be allowed on stage, during the artiste performance and all acts will be limited to 30 minutes maximum

8. Only accredited press houses with valid identification will have access to the backstage, and any member of the press who is granted access to backstage and found not to be working will be removed by the security detail.

9. Police personnel both in and out of uniform will be strategically placed throughout the crowd to monitor patrons activities.

10. Any artiste that arrives late and miss their time slot will NOT be allowed to perform again unless the issues were due to hiccups with the show (eg. band change or a shift in the artiste line-up)

These are just a few from the long list, but as you can see some drastic changes have been implemented all in the name of trying to maintain peace and making the event a safe one for all. Here is a look at the line up for this year. (see poster below).

In closing we would just like to let all our avid listeners and readers know, that 876radio.com will be at the event bringing you the exclusives as they break.

Sean Kingston demands love!

Grammy Christmas did not bring out the expected massive but the teeny boppers in the audience got what they wanted from Sean Kingston. Although for a while it seemed as if they would miss out on his performance as Sean claimed he wasn't feeling them. "I'm not hearing my girls and I'm not coming back until I hear you guys," Kingston said before exiting the stage. Man did those girls scream! Apparently to the satisfaction of the plump performer who made his way back to the stage giving them some 'Beautiful' songs reaffirming his Jamaican roots. ------------------------------------------------------- D'Angel booed again! Boy oh boy it seems that wherever D'Angel goes the boos follows! One would think that the big, 'society' Sean Kingston show would not attract that kind of reaction, but no the minute D'Angel's name was called the boos started! Respect to her though cause she worked through the boos until she got a clap!

STING, How it All Began

0 Comment written below
Unless you live under a rock, that is the only way you would not know about the greatest one night reggae show on earth, but many are not aware how the show came in to being so here is little trip down memory lane about the 'History of Sting'

Believe it or not, Sting owes its beginnings to a simple problem that had popped up: Isaiah Laing needed a car. The year was 1984, and Isaiah Laing, then a corporal in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, decided to keep an event so that he could raise enough money to buy a car because as a top crimefighter, he "coulden take the same bus as the criminals". Laing was no novice in the area of entertainment events, as he had been organizing dances from as early as April 1983 in Spanish Town, St. Catherine. However, Sting was a natural progression for the top crimefighters.
And so, in 1984 Sting was born at Cinema I in New Kingston. The name was inspired by a local popular slang: "Sting yuh a sting an' a shock you a shock!". The name was further reinforced when dee jay, Michael Palmer who was famous for his hit: "Dem a Lick Shot" saw Laing and asked to be on the show. He said " a me a sting an yu a di boss!". The first year saw over 4,000 patrons turning out at Cinema II, to see top flight deejay Papa San and Junior Reid, who was a debutante on the professional stage at this time. The admission was then JA-$ 20, From the proceeds, Laing eventually bought a Toyota Corolla. What he did not expect was that he had established an event that would serve as the launching pad for the careers of hundreds of artistes. By virtue of its cultural significance, it has played an integral role in the history of Jamaica's music as"The Greatest One Night Reggae Show On Earth". Sting has become a proving ground, an exercise in one-upmanship on the stage that it is simply the calendar event that the entire entertainment fraternity looks forward to every year. It is the benchmark by which artistes are weighed and sometimes found wanting.
After 1984, Sting was subsequently held at Cinema II until 1986 when over 13.000 patrons packed the venue to see Tiger buss the place with the humorous ode against greed, "No Wanga Gut, No Wanga Belly". Given the turnout, the promoters were forced to relocate the show to the more upscale and upscale Cinema I grounds for the following year's staging of the event. In 1987, over 22,000 patrons shelled out JA-$ 40, to witness the inaugural Four The Hard Way between speed-talker Papa San and Lieutenant Stitchie, Admiral Bailey and Professor Nuts. Leading the singers' line-up were Pinchers, Leroy Gibbons and Frankie Paul, who were managed by Laings company, Supreme Productions Limited. At this time, Supreme Productions Limited had expanded, and functioned as an artiste management outfit and a booking agency, in addition to show coordination.
In 1988, the growing buzz on Sting forced the organizers to seek a larger venue to accommodate the legions of dancehall fans that began to follow the event. The National Stadium was chosen and the likes of Ninja Man, Red Dragon, Flourgon, Sanchez, and international star, Maxi Priest lit up the venue with marquis performances.
In 1988, patrons flocked to the venue to see the likes of Flourgon, Red Dragon, Ninja Man and Junior Demus. That clash got to the point where the microphones had to be turned off, a foreshadowing of darker events to come. In 1989, Barrington Levy, Gregory Isaacs, Freddy McGregor and Dennis Brown faced off to see who could be the best at serenading the over 27.000 patrons. The Fat Boys were also featured at that year's staging, which was beamed live for the first time to the USA and Canada. The following year, in 1990, over 30.000 patrons were entertained with the "Clash of the Century" between Ninja Man and Shabba Ranks, who had risen to the pinnacle of the deejay scene from the year before. This was the scene of the famous doo doo pants diss that cemented Ninjamans reputation as a lyrical assassin.
In 1991, STING had its largest crowd of over 42.000 and it has been recorded as the biggest turnout for any one day reggae event in Jamaica. That record still stands. The following year, over 10.000 children turned out for "Kiddies Sting" which was headlined by US teen stars Kriss Kross. STING remained at the National Stadium until 1992 when it was moved to Jamworld which was to be its new home for the next four years.

That year, the event celebrated its tenth anniversary in fine style, as a three part event - "Slam" on Christmas Eve at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre - a pre-Christmas party for teenagers; "Golden Memories Filled With Love" on Christmas Day at Jamworld. This second leg showcased Jamaica's best from the ska and vintage eras. The climax took place on Boxing Day featuring the best of Jamaica's dancehall. In 1997, STING went back to the National Stadium for another year, but due to the Reggae Boys' preparation for the World Cup, the organizers were forced to return to Jamworld in 1998.

Sting went through an uncertain period between 1999 to 2001 when Bounty Killer decided to challenge Stings supremacy as the must-attend event of the Christmas season with his own, Saddle to the East show on Christmas Day. This presented a challenge for Laing and his team because artistes often performed free at the event and then commanded large salaries at Sting, negatively affecting his bottomline. Bounty Killer also refused to attend Sting for two years as he held his event, and the third year, he showed up at Sting but he was not advertised.

In 2004, Sting achieved a new first when it got its first title sponsor, Magnum, for the 20th anniversary show. Sting also survived a near-apocalyptic ending to its show in 2003 when up-and-comer Vybz Kartel physically attacked Ninjaman onstage. After the onstage melee had ended, emcee Nuffy made an ill-timed announcement regarding Bounty Killers refusal to perform, and a hail of bottles descended on the stage. Several persons were injured, however Beenie Man was able to close the show and regain some amount of sanity to that nights proceedings and I guess one could say the rest is history.

BIG CROWD, WEAK STING

December 27, 2007
Started By linko15 Comments

The remnants of a huge crowd, at Sting 2007 turned away from the stage at Jamworld Portmore at 7:32 a.m., today.

Those who remained were mainly in the VIP section as the regular entry section emptied out during the closing group performance of Vybz Kartel, Aidonia and other members of the Portmore Empire. The Empire closed off a concert with numerous band changes and a mixed line-up with the overall result well below Sting's explosive standards.

STARLEFT_1_PCRWKninjastAM.jpg
Ninja at Sting

Early excitement came from Ninja Man who was slated to perform at 11:45 p.m., but actually did not hit the stage until 1:16 a.m., demanding a clash which never materialised. Although there were brief flashes from Fanton Mojah, Shane-O and Bugle with Warrior King and I-Octane getting a more sustained positive response, it was not until two hours after Mr. Sting that Assassin opening with Gully Sitten and closing with Don' Mek mi Hol Yuh provided a much satisfactory showing.

It was the beginning of a dancehall run with Mavado originally slated for 12:45 a.m., coming on close to 3:30 a.m. With every song from his opening take on Amazing Grace earning huge forwards through departures and returns to the stage, he had by far the night's the best extended sustained showing.

Bounty Killer complimented his offspring on a good showing, himself earning a strong response which heightened when he addressed 'Fisheenie', and adjusted a line in Cyaan Believe Mi Eye to 'Cyan believe seh Kartel bleach out him face.'

However, the ill-timed mixture of deejays and cultural singers that was part of the weakness of Sting 2007, began with Jah Cure coming on just past 4:00 a.m. Although he was very warmly received during his 30-minute performance with Longing For, Richie Spice who followed was not. Goodbye handclaps beginning in Grooving My Girl.

Richie Spice was not the only person to suffer the handclap fate as Deva Bratt, Junior Reid and Hero also received such responses. Busy Signal, coming on at 5:00 a.m. was in good form, climaxing with Nah Go a Jail Again but Deva Bratt followed.

A band change and Hero did not help and it was Etana's closing, Roots that got her in the audience graces. There was a strong run of short showings from Ifrica whose closing Daddy hit home. Lutan Fyah blazed fire on the Catholic priests; Chuck Fendah who 'gashed away' and Notorious Turbulence and Royal Tarrus Riley. But then came Junior Reid at 6:30 a.m.with his guest rapper Eve who was not saved from the hand clap fate.

Sting 2007 surged to a close with Spice 'talking up the di tings dem' on Beenie Man and D'Angel with explosive effect. Anthony B went for the groin and did some good Damage and the Portmore Empire, Aidonia up first calling up Kartel and the rest of the crew put a lid on Sting 2007.

However, although many of the Empire's song struck a chord with the audience, the exchange of lyrics on stage was far from the emphatic closing required from Sting 2007 to compensate for the lulls before. There was a single crowd disturbance at the rear left during Mavado's performance which did not interrupt the flow of songs.

Flexx, Monster Twinz held up at gunpoint

.O.K's Flexx and the Monster Twins were held at gunpoint, following a special concert treat planned by T.O.K alongside Ms. Thing, Alozade and Monster Twinz (collectively known as D'LINK) held at the Cooreville Gardens basketball court on December 25.

According to Flexx, he was assisting in dropping home some people after the party, including the Monster Twinz, but ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"A bredda hold wi up out a di stop light a Spanish Town Road and Maxfield Avenue, after mi a drop home Monster dem. The windows were down and when wi stop at the stop light, mi hear one a dem (Monster Twinz) inna di front passenger seat shout out 'Yow! Nuh kill mi, nuh kill mi!'. At first, mi did tek it as joke, but then Monsta start shout out, 'A Monster Twin and TOK, a Monster Twin and TOK!' an' afta dat, di yout jus put up him gun an' walk off," T.O.K's Flexx recalled.

He also added, "Mi only glad seh nutt'n never happen an' when him realise seh a we, him no bodda do wah him did a guh do. But mi jus' want people fi just look out and be careful."

Flexx says he did not bother to report the matter to the police as nothing was taken from them.

Ringo of the Monster Twinz says the incident occurred at around 4:30 a.m. "Afta wi keep wi party an every ting nice an wi a guh home. As wi stop a di light, a likkle man push one gun inna di car an sey 'Yow! Gimmie every ting uno have', an mi haffi jus start ball out, 'A TOK an Monsta Twins', an him jus ease up an walk weh an disappear."

Respect to shotta

"Wi respect goes out to dah shotta dey, fi di ease up wey him gi wi, 'cause him neva haffi response, a who wi, a jus di mercy a God. Wi also voice a new tune right away name God Ova Devil," Ringo said.

The concert treat, dubbed 'D Link Christmas' featured other artistes including, Voicemail, Zumjay, Kiprich, Bugle and Black Er. The concert was to promote peace, love and unity for the Christmas season and the upcoming year.

To be successful in any field or industry, there are certain rules or guidelines one has to follow, whether knowingly or not. The dancehall industry is no exception. There seem to be unwritten rules that artistes follow during their tenure of success which contribute to their public image, sound and their impact on their audience.
1 Have and maintain a 'bad man' reputation. Many of Jamaica's renowned artistes have attested to the fact that they had to resort to criminal or shady activities to 'make a living' before their involvement in the industry provided them with an access to wealth. Even with success, many continue to preach violence and gloat over their endless supply of guns and ammo. If this is not done, they seem to fear risking the reputation which they have worked to build.
2 Initiate a catch phrase. The catch phrase defines an artiste in an industry overrun with similar talents and sounds. For example: 'Yes, yes!'- Munga, 'Gansta for life' and 'Anywaaay'- Movado, 'Bullet bullet' - Bounty Killer, 'Money-O!' - Macka Diamond
3 Have a poor background. This was not a choice but a reality for many artistes while growing up. Evidence of their struggles is present in a majority of their songs. This is vital to the success of many, as their music will either appeal to those who can relate or sympathise.
4 Establish a rivalry. A rivalry amongst dancehall artistes is the norm. It always has been. As such, dancehall fans enjoy witnessing confrontations at stage shows and hearing artistes disrespect one another on their tracks. Rivalries add to the excitement of the industry and may even provide an artiste with a chance to display his/her talents.
5 Round up an entourage. What would a dancehall artiste be without his/her posse? Wherever the artiste, one is sure to see an army of people, ready to follow wherever the famous one may go. For example Bounty Killer and The (much publicised) Alliance.
6 Have a hit song followed by a slew of others. Busy Signal had Step Out and Munga had Flipping Rhymes. The first hit song is an artiste's introduction to the public. One hit will create anticipation for more. If the music is consistent then there will always be a positive response. An example of this, Munga Honourable.
7 Have an alias. Once in the industry, an alias is expected. Here are some of the many: The Gangsta Ras - Munga, Gargamel - Buju Banton, The Energy God - Elephant Man, The Warlord - Bounty Killer and The Doctor - Beenie Man.
8 Have an unpleasant countenance (not easy on the eyes). In the industry, there is an abundance of these characters. Their public image is that of a mean looking person, who rarely cracks a smile. It appears that to succeed, one must try to look 'Cross, angry and miserable' as much as possible.
9 Be affiliated with a veteran in the business. Success in the dancehall industry becomes easier once an artiste can link his name to someone who has already achieved success. This type of affiliation proved to be successful for members (whether former or current) of The Alliance. This strategy has also come into play with D'Angel's relationship with both Bounty and Beenie.
10 Develop some level of skill. No matter how closely the other rules are followed, without some level of skill, success is unlikely. The ability to ride a rhythm with ease and produce great music is the best way to make it big in the industry.  ct

I met a girl on the bus. While we were talking she said that I just wanted to have sex with her once and that's it. The sex was so great at first that I wouldn't leave. As a result, we began having sex like every night. At times I don't have money because when I get my pay I would give her 3/4 of it and tell my parents lies saying that I took an advance out of my pay so I am paying for it. It was love because at first I wasn't sexually active to that extent, but I figure that I made up for all my lost times of not having sex. Difficult times Then the difficult times came when my job contract had expired and I was working with my cousin who is a womaniser. At times he would tell me not to give her any money, but I would still give her until my cousin started teasing her by saying that I have a lot of women. We were on a text message plan, but when I got broke, I couldn't continue. She started saying that I don't love her anymore. I remember playing a joke by saying that I was going to leave her, but she left me before I could reassure her. Unsweetened sex I started another job as an accounting clerk at a top chartered accounting firm. We started talking again, but the love and sex wasn't as sweet as at first because she doesn't trust me. She has a child and at times we would have sex when the child is sleeping. Since she got pregnant she stayed in a room that her father had built for her due to some family issues. Her father would send $3,000 from England for her and her son and I would leave myself 'bruk' and give her money. Her friend who is a 'b*t*h' called me a nerd. This friend goes around and has sex with men who can give her money and drive 'criss cars'. I think my girlfriend is like her friend because when I want to have sex she refuses saying that I am not used to woman. I gave her money to buy grocery and go to the doctor for a check up and she spent the money on clothes and parties. I don't even get check ups. Can you imagine that? She is just 19. She got pregnant and dropped out of school. She complained that she wanted a job. I got two jobs for her and she said that the jobs are too far. She wants a job in downtown or St. Thomas. She lives in St. Thomas. I even arranged classes for her to further her education, but she was pressuring me, so I left. From time to time I reminisce on the sex and I miss it. I was looking about teachers' college for her and I misplaced her CXC transcript. She started to use expletives saying that I should get her transcript. One of my close friends called me late one night and sent sex jokes to me. My girlfriend now believes that I am having sex with that girl, but we are just friends. I am now working at an international company (American Company) and I am looking for a girl who can fulfil my desires as I am bored, horny and need love. What should I do? S.S., St. Thomas, Jamaica Dear S.S., No wonder a friend of your ex-girlfriend thought that you are not very smart. She was quite correct. Only a fool wastes his money on women and you seem to be famous for doing so. Someone needs to tell you that you are not very smart. You are always buying sex and until you come to realise that you don't have to prove to a woman that you love her so much that your pay cheque is not important to you, she will always look at you as an idiot. Sex doesn't keep people together for any long time. I suggest that you talk to your mother and tell her the difficulty you are having with women. She will set you straight. Leave this woman who has eaten you out. She is not ambitious and she is laughing at you because of the way you have conducted yourself. The money you have wasted you are going to need, so stop fooling around

A man believed to be mentally challenged gave patients and other on-lookers in and around the University Hospital of the West Indies in St. Andrew, a scare after snatching a policewoman's service pistol and allegedly shooting himself. Dead is 30-year-old Omar Graham of a Deanery Road, Kingston. Reports are that at about 11:45 p.m., Graham was at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital. While at the hospital, a policewoman reportedly brought in a patient. Graham then approached the officer, grabbed her firearm and ran some distance away. Moments after, an explosion was heard and Graham's lifeless body was found with a gunshot wound believed to be self-inflicted. The Half-Way Tree police are investigating

The year 2007 is just about finished. For some, it was a year filled with many challenges, with some fulfilled dreams and some still hanging in the air. As the festivities of the holiday wear away, Jamaicans are now looking seriously to the year ahead and the many challenges which the future holds. They say they look forward to many changes for themselves, their families and their country. "Right now a betterment we a deal wid. We need all work so people can comfort demself," said Patrick, a self-employed man from Woodford Park, St. Andrew in an interview with THE STAR. "Fi the New Year, we also need more love cause we short a that." While lamenting the lack of love shown for each other in the country, Patrick said that for the New Year, it is important for Jamaicans to care more about each other. Neville Walker, a messenger from Portmore, St. Catherine has several wishes for his fellow countrymen. "My change is a better salary but what I would like to see in Jamaica is the brutality towards one another stop. It's time we stop killing each other," said Mr. Walker. Tired a gun Patrick, like Mr. Walker said this is one of his greatest wishes for his country in 2008. "The gunmen dem fi go mask one side. Me tired a gun round me," said Patrick. She is a senior citizen but 70-year-old Lucille Wright sits by the roadside and sells sweets and snacks to earn some money to care for herself. For the year 2008, her desire is to see an improvement in her business, as well as see a reduction in crime and violence in Jamaica. "A progress mi waan fi the New Year," she said. "It tan bad, it rough, it dangerous. Me caan even walk, a pure gunshot. Mi affi jus siddung inna mi house, cork up." Mr. Walker said for the New Year the government should try to rid the streets of unemployed youths. "I think the government should focus on building a concentration camp where they can take these little boys. They are the ones causing the mayhem and the killing in this country," he said. "Put the shottas and all the idle hands to work." For the upcoming year, Patrick said that he would like to see a changed Jamaica, to which everyone can contribute. "Change your ways and mek we have a better vibe inna Jamaica," he said.

Feuds fizzle at Sting

Ninja Man called out Beenie Man and Bounty Killer in vain. Fantan Mojah demanded that Risto Benjie be sent for a clash, but he was not around; neither was D'Angel to respond to Spice's mocking "a nuff man she got".

Aidonia took aim at Munga, who passed up on Guinness Sting 2007 and although earlier Bounty Killer had much earlier changed a line in Cyaa Believe Me Eye to "cyaa believe sey Kartel bleach out him face", when he closed Guinness Sting 2007 as head of the Portmore Empire Kartel did not respond.

In fact, he said, "Me nah lie, a Killer bus me. Memba yu have a faada, yu get big, yu have yu own family," deejaying, "dem waan fi war me so me sen fe me army" to delight the massive audience at Jam World yesterday morning.

Fuming

There was some fuming, but the feuding that has been a big part of Sting in large part fizzled at the huge Boxing Day event. In his performance, starting after 1 a.m., Ninja Man said "sen out de whole a dem" and spent some time deejaying about Bounty Killer.

He said Bounty Killer had done a television interview in which he said good things about Ninja Man, but the favourable comments were not needed now.

But when he came up, Bounty Killer did not spend long on Ninja Man, addressing the matter early. "Ninja Man a call me name, call yu son a Half-Way Tree, a do hair an' fingernail," he said adding that homosexuality runs in the *lo** so some must be in Ninja Man.

Ninja Man had also corrected Mavado on the lyric "squeeze har nipple like the trigger of a gun", but when it was his turn Mavado said "Ninja Man, you a me elder, but me deal wid girl dem different," proceeding to deliver the song.

Mavado also said, "me sey big up Kartel, 'cause gangster a gangster. So we sey done wid de war. Big up Adijah Palmer. And this is David Brooks. Me sey big up Addi. Me sey big up Bounty, a me Daddy."

The two, who have been at odds since Kartel left the Bounty Killer-led Alliance, also made peace again after a a very public brawl involving their respective entourages at last week's Bembe Thursday.

As he closed, Kartel said, "Big up Mavado, 'cause me an him dey a Dela a par wha day. All Beenie fans, all Bounty fans wave so. Kartel a de new generation."

And although he landed a lyrical bullet to Munga Honourable, Aidonia sent a big-up to all, including Munga, saying "people fi know these are my words" and deejaying "from dem dis, me no waan know how".

Deadly fruity gels - Kids hospitalised after choking, local authorities warn consumers Although Mini Fruity Gels, a popular fruit-based sweet, have been banned in the island for the past two years, THE weekend STAR has learnt that the products are still very much on the market and have caused injuries to at least two children. The gels consist of a sweetened jelly-like exterior with a hard chunk of fruit in the centre. They were banned in Europe and the United States by the European Union and the Food and Drug Administration, respectively, after it was discovered that they were potentially hazardous. The gel is made of konjac, a binding agent made from the konnyaku root. Research has shown that candies with this ingredient can lead to fatal or near-fatal asphyxiation. The sweets also pose a choking hazard, especially to young children and elderly persons and the shape can easily lead to obstruction of the airway. At least two Jamaican parents have had first-hand experience with the damage the sweets can do and there are several cases of children in the United States choking and suffering from cardio-pulmonary arrest after having the gel. Daughter choking Karen Bogle admitted that she had no idea the candy was so dangerous and was surprised to see her three-year-old daughter choking after she gave her one in early December. "Di ting stuck at har throat. Mi jus see her eye start roll over. I knocked her back and it fly out and then after that she started vomiting *lo**. Mi haffi fly and bring her to the doctor and him give her some antibiotics. Dat ting deh nuh fi tek without parental guidance. I didn't know it was so dangerous." She too has noticed that despite a ban, the products are still very popular. "I see them everywhere," she said. "they even sell them by the jar in the wholesale." Bogle also told THE STAR about the experience of her friend, who was forced to take her son to the hospital after he began choking on a piece of the sweet. In this case, the child was hospitalised and doctors removed the sweet, which was blocking his airway. Chief executive officer at the Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC), Dolfie Allen, told THE STAR that there was a recall of the sweets about two years ago. She said at that time, several press releases were sent out about the matter. She admitted, however, that there has not been much in terms of follow-up. "I have gone to places and seen them for sale and I've asked them to remove them. We need to do a new campaign." She said she has not heard about any of the local incidents but is familiar with the stories from overseas. She also revealed that a new education campaign would begin in January as consumers need to be "reminded". She added that consumers needed to be more careful and vigilant as it is hard for the CAC to physically monitor every shelf. "As soon as you get them off the shelves and you turn your back, they're up again. We don't really have the resources to police every store." A representative from the Bureau of Standards told THE WEEKEND STAR that she was also aware of the ban that was implemented years ago, but said they had not received any further communication from the CAC. "Some research will have to be done," she said. "that was two years ago, so we have to check the market now."
ASHLAND, Ore. - Even in death, Chet Fitch is a card. Fitch, known for his sense of humor, died in October at age 88 but gave his friends and family a start recently: Christmas cards, 34 of them, began arriving written in his hand with a return address of "Heaven."

The greeting read: "I asked Big Guy if I could sneak back and send some cards. At first he said no; but at my insistence he finally said, 'Oh well, what the heaven, go ahead but don't (tarry) there.' Wish I could tell you about things here but words cannot explain.

"Better get back as Big Guy said he stretched a point to let me in the first time, so I had better not press my luck. I'll probably be seeing you (some sooner than you think). Wishing you a very Merry Christmas. Chet Fitch"

A friend for nearly 25 years, Debbie Hansen Bernard said, "All I could think was, 'You little stinker.'"

"It was amazing," she said. "Just so Chet, always wanting to get the last laugh."

The mailing was a joke Fitch worked on for two decades with his barber, Patty Dean, 57. She told the Ashland Daily Tidings this week that he kept updating the mailing list and giving her extra money when postal rates went up. This fall, she said, Fitch looked up to her from the chair.

"You must be getting tired of waiting to mail those cards," he told her. "I think you'll probably be able to mail them this year."

He died a week later.

The year 2007 will be known in the annals of dancehall history as the rise of the Portmore Empire as a bonafide force. A loose collection of young artistes with different styles and lyrical flow, under the guidance of Vybz Kartel a.k.a Addi the Teacha, the Empire has matured into a more cohesive unit which is capable of holding its own on stage shows, and is commanding more respect on the nations airwaves.

Deva_Brat.jpgThe Empires first lieutenant, deejay Deva Bratt is leading out the Portmore Empire in no uncertain terms. He faced his most difficult test at Guinness Sting 07 with a great performance that clearly showed the arc of his growth from mere novice to prospect to watch for in 2008.

Placed in a challenging slot right after an awesome set by Busy Signal, Deva Bratt walked onstage dressed in a black leather trenchcoat, black pants and shirt, and a black ten gallon hat. He asked a rhetorical question: Portmore say ah real bad man time, right?

The crowd roared its response, and he deejayed Bundle a Gal, and the torches stabbed at the early morning sky from large sections of the crowd. He quickly segued to Bundle a Gun and the forwards rolled on. He then said, say kill dem and go home before launching into Autotune, and two large banners, one of which bore his name, punched the air.

He paused a second, and made a reference to his recent punch-up with Munga at the Stone Love anniversary dance in Kingston by asking oonu watch oonu TV, yu know say nobody caan violate Portmore bad man. He then deejayed a line from his war catalogue, Guns and 12 gauge rounds, before segueing neatly into the ultra-popular Bullillett, and this time, the forward came from an even larger section of the crowd as torches blazed, and fire rockets whistled across the early morning sky.

Deva Bratt then deejayed his latest radio hit, Gussie Clarke on the Gearbox rhythm and then left the stage, only to return a few hours later to deejay with the Empire.

A few hours later, the Empire closed the show instead of Bounty Killer who had opted to perform earlier and leave. One-time Portmore resident Vybz Kartel was not intimidated by the prospect of closing the show in front of his hometown crowd.

No Clash Leaves Fans Disappointed

There is a feeling of disappointment floating in the air, has many patrons who attended the recently concluded STING held at Jamworld, Portmore felt as if they they were cheated or short changed out of their entertainment dollar.

Even though from the perspective of the promoters, STING was a huge success, the same sentiments unfortunately are not being echoed by a lot of patrons. According to some persons interviewed by 876radio.com the absence of bottles and other projectiles being hurled through the air was a welcome change coupled with the increase in security personnel. But STING being the greatest one night reggae show on earth lacked entertainment value.

Many feel that the absence of the clash element has put a huge damper on the show, regardless of acts like, Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Queen Ifrica, Spice and Ninja Man amongst others all giving stellar performances. For many STING is the show were people go to see rival artistes settle their disputes and showing off their lyrical prowess while keeping the fans entertained which has been the tradition since it's inception is 1984.

The new image of promoting peace and love, is touted as a welcome change by many especially those in the upper echelons of society. But will this new format of staggering the acts in an effort of avoid them getting in to lyrical and possible physical confrontation be sustainable. Many patrons that we interviewed said if this trend continues they will not be returning as the STING that they pay their money to see is not what they are getting.

This year saw a lot of lyrical and in some case physical feuds being played out in the dancehall arena and on the local airwaves, most noticeable of those were Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Chino, Munga, Deva Brat, Flexx,Spice, D'Angel, Bounty, Beenie amongst other and to see them all culminate into one place without scores being settled, has a lot fans second guessing if STING has lost it's appeal wit that show format or shifted it's focus and is trying to become more of a family oriented show.

Police Raid Asylum & QUAD

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1068 The holiday season is upon us and the security forces are in anything but a festive mood. Recently there has been a series of raids carried out by the army and police personnel at several prominent stage show and parties, to weed out criminal elements that has been plaguing the society for some time now. Last weekend was no different, as patrons partied on the Hip Strip in New Kingston they got a very unpleasant surprised.

According to our sources two of the cities most prominent night clubs Asylum and Quad were almost turned into a concentration camps when heavily armed police and soldiers stormed into the club shutting them down simultaneously and proceeded to search everyone.

It's alleged the reason for the invasion was a shooting had taken place earlier somewhere in the city and the security forces were tipped that the culprits were seen heading into one of the clubs.

During the melee no one was arrested but checks by 876radio.com revelaed that some men were taken away for questioning , and we are not sure it they were later released or arrested.

Many are attributing this new method of crime fighting to the newly appointed Commissioner of Police the former Army Officer Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, who since his swearing in to office has vowed to rid the streets of the country of the plague of crime and violence.

'Doc' medicates Montego Bay musically

December 27, 2007
Started By linko4 Comments

Dancehall fans at the Aqua Beach Park, in Montego Bay, got a house call from the Doctor, Beenie Man, early Saturday morning, and, in a mere half hour, he had properly diagnosed, medicated and left the patrons in a state of musical wellness.

Beenie Man, the STAR's Artiste of the Month, actually started the day not feeling well and at one point it was feared that he might not have made the trip for the special autograph signing session and charity concert. However, he did not disappoint.

After his protracted autograph signing session, the Doctor hit centrestage at 1:33 a.m. and promptly showed his awareness of the violence that has been plaguing the western city by issuing an urgent plea to the "shottas" to lay down their arms and allow peace to reign.

Beenie Man, who performed on tracks, quickly got the fans dancing and screaming with delight as after lyrically asking to, "Mek me se the hand a go up", he increased the tempo with the popular, Come Again, which he followed acapella-style, with, Who God Bless.

With the fans urging him on, Beenie Man soothed them with, Memories and then went in overdrive, dancing up a storm as he drew rich applaud coasting masterfully through, Wickedest Slam, Fassy Dem, Girls' Dem Sugar and the classic, Sim Simma.

After breaking briefly to explain that he had spent the last few hours at a medical doctor because he was not feeling well, Beenie Man invited female side-kick, Barbee, to join him on stage for the song Dude, but she declined the invitation, citing hoarseness.

In delivering, Dude, on his own, Beenie Man went into a scintillating dance routine, showing off his mastery of the various dance moves. He spoke about his failed marriage with fellow artiste D'Angel, stating that, "some people seh me a go mad because me wife tek another man," before rolling lyrically into the song, No Gal.

No to violence

After inviting deejay Beela and his baby son on stage to show their worth, Beenie Man again took time out to discuss the violence plaguing Montego Bay and said he would like the police to use the same urgency used in tracking down cop-killers to investigate the murder of ordinary citizens.

The Doctor continued his musical journey with delightful renditions of, Back It Up, Heart Attack and Taxi, which he delivered with a sexual overtone.

With the fans in ecstasy and Beenie Man in full command, he went about stirring up some amount of controversy by questioning whether or not Mavado qualified to be the "DJ of the Year" since, in his estimation, the rising dancehall star was a singer and not a deejay.

During his tirade about Mavado, Beenie Man also spoke about Vybz Kartel and his old nemesis Bounty Killer, whom he described as "my artistes fe years".

With the audience clearly satiated by both his lyrics and social commentary, Beenie Man ended his set at precisely 2:05 a.m. with the thought-provoking song, Every Day Another Mother Cry, which spoke to the dislocation being caused by violence.

Prior to Beenie Man's appearance on stage, the fans were given a brief taste of the DJ Jah Clarity and veteran singer Major Lloyd. Major Lloyd impressed greatly, especially with his masterful rendition of the love ballad, Knock Three Times.

Not even the rain could stop the massive from coming out at Pepsi TeenSplash held at James Bond Beach on December 26. Although the show saw some good performances it also had moments of improper stage management. Following a real hot performer it lulled to an upcoming act! At minutes after 1 am Jigsy from Bembe Squad was doing his thing then it was back to startime again. During Romain Virgo's performance the stage hands were conducting mic checks...how tacky! Romain Virgo showed that he has exactly what it takes to make it. He was Mr. Super Cool as he crooned out classics such as "Let's Get It On," "I'm Still In Love" and "It Tears Me Up." He had the ladies in the audience eating out of the palm of his hand. He was in his element as he played, teased and drove his many adoring female fans wild. It was no wonder when he left the stage the women made a beeline for him! Strong performances came from Beenie Man who totally took control of the crowd. He had them in a frenzy as he moved from hits of yesteryear to present day. He was like the pied piper as he led the crowd down enjoyment avenue. He just could do no wrong for them. When he called Barbee on stage for their combination "Give It Up," it was to loud screams of appreciation. The Doctor executed a perfect musical operation as he took the curtains down on the 2007 staging of TeenSplash. Busy Signal gave a sterling performance as he belted out one hit after another. But it was "Nah Go A Jail Again" that sparked the most forwards. Other acts that gave good accounts of themselves were Capleton, Tarrus Riley, Timmy Burrell and Munga Honourable.

Assassin's birthday party

December 24, 2007

Assassins Birthday Party registered a poor turnout at the University of Technology on Saturday night. When One876Entertainment.com arrived at the party at about 2:45 a.m., there were still only a few patrons in the venue but Razz and Biggy, and an inspired set from CD Master kept them entertained. At a few minutes after four, it was show time when Firelinks walked up, then introduced dancer Chi Ching Ching who had the audience laughing with his new slang, heavy-day.

Assassin1.jpgThen it was time for Einstein, but he couldnt deduce what the audience needed to be entertained as his set was full of bad words and lewd references, forcing Assassin himself to walk up and announce versatile. The ladies screamed. He then got into his set, reeling off songs like Gully Sitten, Some Gal, Gal A Watch You and Dem Nuh Like You. He also earned a forward for his anti-gay lines like nuh mek we find you/if we hear man a bathe yuh like Kyino.

He then introduced Busy Signal to loud screams. Busy Signal did Rise and Beat, and thrilled the girls with Pon the Edge. Then Einstein got a forward with Rise up the Rifle Dem, and made way for Tyrical to do We Nuh Waan No Guerilla War.

Macka Diamond, dressed in a tight shorts, declared that she was a money goddess.

Yuh have some man when it touch dem time ah the year, dem lock off dem phone, but after the holiday, tell dem doan call yuh back, she said to shouts of approval from the women.

She then did her take on Charly Blacks Buddy inna P#m P#m song  by doing Money for the P#m P#m. Captain Barkey also touched the stage to big up the birthday boy, and Zumjay did Nah Nyam No Gal. Erup did an inspired set with songs such as Gun Sound, and Gal Ah Run Dem Head, working the stage using a neat sideway glide that mesmerized the crowd. Assassin interjected a bit with one line, we love the gal but we nah mad over dem.

After Erup left the stage, Signal and Assassin did tune for tune, with Busy squeezing off Full Clip and Rise Heavy Machine while Assassin deejayed Do It If Yu Bad and Doan Mek We Hold Yu. Busy Signal also did Unknown Number. When we left the party, Andrew and Wadda *lo** were still performing but it was time to hit the road to return to Heinekens Yesterday in New Kingston.

Top 10 Wierd laws of the world

December 3, 2007
Started By CALOSS8 Comments

Number 10: Most Middle Eastern countries recognize the following Islamic law: "After having sexual relations with a lamb, it is a mortal sin to eat its flesh." (umm OK, Im sure the lamb appreciates that one)

Number 9: In Lebanon, men are legally allowed to have sex with animals, but the animals must be female. Having sexual relations with a male animal is punishable by death. (OK, like THAT makes sense...)

Number 8: In Bahrain, a male doctor may legally examine a womans genitals, but is forbidden from looking directly at them during the examination. He may only see their reflection in a mirror. (Ouch!)

Number 7: Muslims are banned from looking at the genitals of a corpse. This also applies to undertakers; the sex organs of the deceased must be covered with a brick or a piece of wood at all times. (...a brick?)

Number 6: The penalty for masturbation in Indonesia is capitation. (Wonder how they enforce that one?)

Number 5: There are men in Guam whose full-time job is to travel the countryside and deflower young virgins, who pay them for the privilege of having sex for the first time. Reason: under Guam law, it is expressly forbidden for virgins to marry. (Now lets just think for a minute...is there any job anywhere else in the world that even comes close to this?)

Number 4: In Hong Kong, a betrayed wife is legally allowed to kill her adulterous husband, but may only do so with her bare hands. (The husbands lover, on the other hand, may be killed in any manner desired. COOL)

Number 3: Topless saleswomen are legal in Liverpool, England, but only in tropical fish stores. (Of course!)

Number 2: In Santa Cruz, Bolivia it is illegal for a man to have sex with a woman and her daughter at the same time. (We have to presume this was a big enough problem that they had to pass this law...)

And the wierdest law in the world is...

In Cali, Colombia, a woman may only have sex with her husband, and the first time this happens her mother must be in the room to witness the act. (I shudder at the thought. How many of us would be virgins today?)

Chris Stokes past comes back to haunt him

chrisstokes_razb.jpgWow check out this story posted on mediatakeout.com...seems that Chris Stokes was accused of molesting his cousins and what's more there's proof.

According to Chris Stokes "That was years ago, I'm not like that anymore, I don't do that...I just don't do that in my life anymore"

For years there has been speculation that Chris Stokes, the man behind B2K and Marques Houston's career, was a child molester. Now former B2K member Raz B and his brother Ricky Romance appear to be confirming that speculation.

In the video being posted on YouTube, Raz B admitted that Chris Stokes molested him and other members of the group B2K. Here's an excerpt of a conversation between Raz B and Marques Houston's sister:

Raz B: It all started with Chris Stokes. Chris was like - let me touch you ...
Marques Houston's Sister: Did he touch everybody, or was it just you?
Raz B: You know what, I can't speak for everybody, but if you want my personal opinion, I think he did.

And here's what Raz B's brother, Ricky Romance said on the same video: "Chris [Stokes] made me take showers with the other boys... All the [things] that my brother was introduced to, that [EXPLETIVE] was brought to me first. I blocked that [EXPLETIVE] and I wasn't with it - I backed out ... I kinda knew what was going on
there. And yet, I took my brother [Raz B] over to Chris, and I didn't protect him like I should have." "[Chris Stokes] molested my brother [Raz B] and he molested me ... when I say that, it hurts."

Later on in the video, Chris Stokes is heard on the phone telling Ricky Romance, "I don't do that anymore, That was me years ago ... I just don't do that in my life anymore."
