Dear Pastor,
I am 31 years of age. I am having a problem. I love a man, but my problem is he does not give me money. I know love is not all about money, but love cannot go to the supermarket. I love him, but I understand he is a gambler. He works and he loves me, but I cannot understand why he does not want to give me money. He helped me to build my little room which I am grateful for, but I have knowledge because I have a little shop. Love is blind and now I know he does not mean me any good. Before he and I were friends, he was nice, but then he changed. He never used to give me money to tell the truth. I did not love him for his money, but I need help for myself. He sees it with his own eyes.
My two children have to go to school every day and their father died at sea and I am alone. He helped and comforted me during my times of sorrow. Every time I ask him for money, he finds excuses and there are times I know for sure that he has money in his pocket but he prefers to buy things and gives it to me to eat, which I do not need.
I am a very important woman and he does not seem to know. I told him my son passed his examination to go to a high school and I needed help and he only made a promise that I do not need. He is worthless. He has two children going to school also. But it does not matter how small it is, he is to stretch out his hands to me, his children and himself. I need to stop seeing him just as I say I love him, but I have to start looking into myself for my mother always say "if duck want to leave pond, pond will leave duck".
Move on
So, help me. I need to move on with my life. I know God is good for He has helped me after my children father died and I buried him. I know God will help me to get out of this. This man does not mean my children or me any good. I need to leave him and another thing is that I am afraid to take anyone who is abusive or ignorant. To have a good life is something I pray for. I now cover my heart for this man when I say I love him. I love him for sure, but at times I just need to wake up.
P. C., Clarendon, Jamaica.
Dear P. C.,
I understand why you want to leave this man. You have explained yourself well. However, I must tell you that this man is going to try to hang on to you because he did you a big favour by making an addition to your house. Yes, madam, he built you a room and if you leave him, he is going to use it against you.
Of course, he knew what he was doing. He did not add on the room only to help you. He wanted to make the home convenient for himself too. Whenever he comes to see you, he wants privacy. I know you are having financial difficulties, but, my darling, find out from him how much it cost him to make the addition to your house. And even if you have to borrow the money to pay him back, do so and let him go his way so that you can be free. He is a mean man and mean men do not change easily.
PastorThe detonation of the first nuclear bomb at the Trinity test site in New Mexico was a triumph for American scientists. For about three years, the scientists and military personnel involved with the Manhattan Project had worked nonstop to build a nuclear bomb, and the blinding flash of light, intense burst of heat and deafening b***booo let them know they had succeeded.
Any celebrations that took place after the first detonation were short-lived. The initial goal of the secret project was to build a bomb before Germany could, but World War II had officially ended in Europe on May 8, 1945, two months before the Trinity test. The decision to use the bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki instead confused many. Although some believed the device saved lives by ending ground combat and air strikes, others felt Japan was ready to surrender anyway -- the Soviet Union was about to join the U.S. by declaring war on the Japanese. The Franck Committee, headed by Nobel laureate James Franck, had even issued a report suggesting the power of the nuclear bomb should be demonstrated to the Japanese before its use on military or civilian targets.
The U.S. was equally conflicted about sharing atomic information with the Soviet Union. Many scientists, including Niels Bohr and Robert Oppenheimer, felt it best to allow a "free interchange of information" of atomic knowledge. Enough was known in the world of physics for the Russians to build a bomb eventually, with or without help from America. Also, withholding information might upset political ties between the two countries, both of which were coming out of World War II as major superpowers. On the other hand, a growing distrust of communism had already formed within many Americans by the end of the war, so some wanted to keep nuclear secrets out of Soviet hands. An American monopoly on nuclear weapons would make Russia more manageable from a political standpoint.
It was this kind of tension that sparked a nuclear arms race, a frantic era in which several nations tested a myriad of nuclear technology and stockpiled thousands of nuclear warheads in an effort to get ahead of one another. Like the space race, whoever had the best technology had the most power, but this was a much more dangerous game -- the potential of an all-out nuclear war between nations always loomed, and the 20th century is littered with uneasy international policies and near catastrophes.
To learn about the nuclear arms race and the people and organizations involved with it, read on.

Classes back in session at Titchfield High |
Monday, 28 January 2008 | |
Following two days of disruption last week, classes are expected to resume at the Titchfield High School in Portland Monday January 28. Classes were suspended on Thursday and Friday following a scare of Mucuna pruriens more commonly known as cowitch' at the institution. There were reports that pollen from the cowitch plant was released into the air resulting in student in at least 20 classrooms being affected. Acting Principal of Titchfield High, Richard Thompson, said the Ministry of Health advised that the school should remain closed until Monday to facilitate clean-up operations. School officials have been speculating that someone deliberately released the cow-itch inside the classrooms. |
According to a recent publication in the Jamaica Observer popular dancehall singjay Miguel 'Sizzla' Collins had the future of his international career put in jeopardy after having a conviction for a drug-related offence recorded against his name when he appeared in the Half-Way-Tree Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
Collins, who is responsible for reggae and dancehall hits such as Nah Apologise, Black Woman And Child, Rise To The Occasion and Solid As A Rock, was yesterday sentenced to pay a fine of J$100 or serve 10 days behind bars after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana.
Collins' ability to travel overseas may be jeopardised, however, after the presiding magistrate Glen Brown ordered that Collins be fingerprinted, which also signified that the conviction would be recorded on Collins' criminal record.
The court was yesterday told that on January 4, Collins was seen by police sitting in his car, which was parked along Windward Road in Kingston. The officers subsequently searched his car and found a small bag of the drug under a mat in the car. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
Collins has allegedly appeared in the Half- Way-Tree Court at least once before in connection with a drug-related offence.
Collins is, however, not the first reggae/dancehall artiste to be convicted on drug charges. In April 2004 Mark 'Buju Banton' Myrie was found guilty of possession of marijuana charge in 2004. Myrie was arrested and charged after police searched his studio in Red Hills, St Andrew and found three marijuana plants.
The Energy GOD, Elephant man yesterday got into a minor car accident, that left a few dents on his pristine Convertible Benz, in the vicinity of the Market Place on Constant Spring Road. No physical injuries were sustained but the other vehicle suffered some severe damage. We're sure that's nothing a little of Diddy's money can't fix.

Jay Z looks to have started the new year off the wrong way. Hpnotiq Qrew has EXCLUSIVELY learned that last week the former head of Def Jam lost more than $500,000 in a high stakes poker game in Las Vegas.
A person who was in attendance at the game told MediaTakeOut.com exclusively, "It was supposed to be a friendly game with everyone betting only [a few hundred dollars] a hand ... Jay Z was down only about [a thousand dollars] when he raised [another player] $500,000."
The insider explained to MediaTakeOut.com, "It was a bold move for Jay Z - unfortunately his pair of queens didn't beat [the other player's] flush." The source added, "There were professionals at the table, he really should have known better than that."
We know he's got long money and all. But he can't be happy about losing $500K in a matter of seconds. Besides, if he keep's taking hits like that, he'll be back on the block hustling rocks in no time...
Little X was warmer than his current New York base this week while in Jamaica to shoot the video for Mavado's latest single, "Last Night."
One of many hot singles from Mavado's debut album, "Gangsta for Life â the Symphony of David Brooks," "Last Night" had a video shoot shrouded in sentiment and heartfelt love.
Using the Cassava Piece Gully Side where Mavado actually grew up for a location, the Little X headed video crew brought life to the vivid lyrics of "Last Night."
"We wanted the video to be as real as possible," said Mavado. "We... even filmed scenes in the actual house I was raised in to keep it as real as can be. We didn't bring in actors, we used Cubans and other people from the community in all the roles."
Done in "marathon filming" fashion, the shoot lasted 16 hours. Prominent video director, Little X, who graciously provided his services for this low budget shoot for rates below his norm, was happy to participate in the project out of sheer love.
Besides being a huge fan of Mavado since his bursting on the scene; Little X says he was motivated to cutting his current New York University Cinematography classes to do the video shoot, because of his love for Jamaican culture.
"I have Trinidadian roots so I have a natural bond with the Caribbean," he explained. "I love Jamaica, and its biggest export â the music and culture... it was worth every moment! I figured missing film school to shoot a video wasn't so bad anyway!"
There are many unique features to the video like cameo appearances from fellow Alliance colleagues: Bounty Killer, Bling Dawg, Serani, Flex, Anarchy, Kibaki, Advance and Foota Hype. Also stepping out to show support to Mavado was Foota Hype's mother who steals the scene as a grieving mother.
In addition, the high-quality, revolutionary new âRed Cameraâ was used for the shoot that really resembled a movie set - with shoot-outs, crime scenes and bike stunts; giving an exciting backdrop to the song.
Little X had a non stop day, but a satisfying one. Mavado's manager, Julian Jones-Griffith said, "Even though it was a long day and night shoot, the atmosphere on set was great...We truly appreciate the love and effort X put into the project."
Would you consider Canada a dangerous place to vacation?
You might if you read an Australian tourism website, which is advising its citizens to "exercise caution" when travelling to the Great White North. Among the possible dangers, as listed by the country's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, terrorism, heavy snow, forest fires and avalanches.
"We advise you to exercise caution and monitor developments that might affect your safety in Canada because of the risk of terrorist attack," the site reads. "Pay close attention to your personal security and monitor the media for information about possible new safety or security risks."
Canada is grouped with countries in the Smart Traveller site's second-safest category, and nations considered safer include Chile, South Korea and Latvia.
Alberta and British Columbia were singled out as potentially dangerous parts of the country to visit, due to the perceived risk of avalanches and earthquakes.
"The province of British Columbia in western Canada is in an active earthquake zone," the site reads.
"Alberta and British Columbia are also subject to avalanches. Tornadoes can occur in some areas of Canada between May and September."
Forest fires were also listed as a possible hazard. When asked, individuals on the streets of Toronto listed what they'd recommend to tourists about this country.
"Well, the snow comes and goes. That's just part of living in Canada," said Shabbir Gokl. "It's a change of scenery, which is nice. It's better than sweating it out in some hot country. And the forest fires are not a big problem. Australia probably has a lot of forest fires (itself)."
Another man added, "This place is beautiful. How do you beat this weather?"
"Everything's good about Canada," Don Gemmell enthused. "Hockey, weather, people."
Canada's Foreign Affairs website, for its part, doesn't have any official warnings against Australia.
THESE amazing pictures seem to prove something geeks and Sci-Fi fans have suspected for years - there's life on Mars.

Numerous reports indicate that the bullet merely grazed his head, leading to just a concussion. Murda called in to Wendy Williams' radio show, the NY based WBLS, and said that he was recovering just fine, also noting that he is using "Hennessey and Newports" to rehabilitate.
The rapper is currently signed to Roc-A-Fella Records and is planning on having his new album, which is yet to be titled, released in stores sometime this year.
When asked about the shooting, Murda's manager exclaimed "The police know about as much as you know, nothin', Uncle Murda don't deal with no police, he deals with the streets. We don't talk to the police."
"Though someone may have tried to kill him, it's business as usual for the rapper. He's in the studio every night, just like he always is and didn't stop recording until the wee hours of this morning." He continued.
Although it is still unknown who commited the crime, Murda has a gut feeling about a possible suspect.
"If anybody, I think it may have been the NYPD. But whoever it was that did it, they missed because I didn't even know I was hit. One of my crew told me that my face was bleeding and took me to the hospital. They said I still have a bullet in my head and if I'm sexually active it will fall out."
When we contacted our sources they could not explain why the ban was implemented, but said that directives were issued and the playing of his songs, videos or even the mere mention of his name in the news or otherwise is prohibited within the confines of the station.
The station who is responsible for bringing a lot of undiscovered talents to the fore and plays some of the 'hippest' and 'hypest' videos seems to be implementing some new guidelines for their programming.
Efforts to reach the management of the station has so far proven futile but we will keep you posted as the story develops.
U.W.I. Says 'No' To Kartel and Spice
To add insult to injury just a day earlier Kartel and Spice who were slated to make appearances on the popular Spectrum concert normally held at the University of the West Indies, Mona camc*u* got dropped from the line up because of concerns raised by the school's administration.
According to a source close to the promotional team they told 876radio.com everyone wanted Kartel on the line up, but the administration said the deejay is too visible in the news and has been getting a lot of bad press since lately and therefore if he was included in the line up the show would be canceled".
Spice on the other hand they never gave a reason for her removal, but it is clear that there are mounting concerns. The event is set to take place at the University of Technology, Student Activity Center (SAC) on the 2nd of February and will feature the likes of Mavado, Busy Signal, Black Ryno, Jah Cure and Sizzla as the main acts.
The promotional team was force to relocate the event because of its growth and change in demographic, which would have compromised the camc*u* security detailing.
Part proceeds from the event will go to some needy folks at the Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Center and other Outreach programs.

MIAMI - A top lieutenant of the Clansman gang who is wanted by Jamaican authorities for the murder of two police officers was deported yesterday to Jamaica by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers.
Raymond Jackson, a.k.a. "Renard Harrison," 31, was transported on a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine (CBP) aircraft under ICE escort. Special agents assigned to the ICE Attaché Office in Jamaica waited for Jackson on the tarmac along with officers of the Jamaican police.
Upon his arrival, he was immediately transferred into the custody of Jamaican authorities. His removal was without incident.
Jackson entered the United States on April 26, 2006 via a maritime route near Jupiter, Florida. He was ordered removed on May 4, 2006 and subsequently deported on May 22, 2006. Jackson, who illegally re-entered the United States, was later arrested by the Lauderhill Police Department on Jan. 16, 2007 as a suspect in a murder investigation. The charges were subsequently dropped.
ICE charged Jackson for re-entry after deportation. He was convicted on April 17, 2007 and sentenced to time served. Jackson was later transferred to ICE custody and his deportation order was reinstated.
"Criminals who think that they can use the United States as a safe haven are sorely mistaken, said Michael Rozos, ICE field office director for detention and removal in Florida. "This man will now have to account for his actions before the Jamaican authorities."
This enforcement action is part of the second phase of the Secure Border Initiative (SBI), a comprehensive multi-year plan launched by the Department of Homeland Security to secure America's borders and reduce illegal migration. Under SBI, Homeland Security seeks to gain operational control of both the northern and southern borders, while re-engineering the detention and removal system to ensure that illegal aliens are removed from the country quickly and efficiently. SBI also involves strong interior enforcement efforts, including enhanced worksite enforcement investigations and intensified efforts to track down and remove illegal aliens inside this country.

Dear Dr. Flex, I recently found out that after eight years of marriage to my wife, she had affairs with two different men. She was with the first man before our marriage and went back to him two years after. They eventually broke up and she met the second man. I had opportunities to but never cheated. I showed up at her workplace one day and the first affair man was there. After she let me in the office, she said they were on an important conference call. She lied and I trusted her. She carried on the affair for quite some time. I have lost respect for her. I have no desire to do things with her.
Dear W.B.,
Dear Dr. Flex, I am a 19-year-old male with an abnormally big penis. My friends who know about my problem call me names like elephant d#*k and anaconda because of my irregular sized penis. When it is dead and soft, it measures 5inches long and when erect it is 10 inches. It also makes me walk a bit awkward, as I am a very slim person. Is there any way to make my penis smaller so it is just average?
F.P., Kingston 5
Dear F.P.,
Dear Dr. Flex,
I am having a problem reaching an orgasm with my boyfriend. Is there anything I can do about it? Awaiting your advice.
P.L., Kingston 13
Dear P.L.
It is not always possible to achieve orgasm through vaginal penetration alone. It often needs more direct stimulation of the clitoris, which you could request from your boyfriend orally or manually, before, after, during or instead of intercourse. Talking to your boyfriend and exploring what stimulates you and what doesnt should make you able to achieve orgasm during sex. You, on the other hand, could practice stimulating your clitoris to get orgasms. Another thing is that the mind has a lot to do with you getting it. I would suggest just before making love with your boyfriend, you help to stimulate yourself and get in the frame of mind to feel the sexual gratificatio

Dear Dr. Flex, My boyfriend and I have been together for quite some time now. When our relationship just started, I used to have to beg him for sex and he still would not give it to me. He later said he just liked to look at blue movies a lot that is why he wouldnt have sex with me. However, he slowly began to give in and now, whereas I dont have to beg him, he still doesnt show any interest in sex with me and the only way we have sex is if I take the initiative. Even then he stops after a little while. I was going to go down on him recently but I smelled a funny scent on his penis that came from under the foreskin. He usually has really good hygiene and this has never happened before. Does this mean hes cheating?

A man, who reportedly held his 20-year-old daughter at knife point and sniffed her private parts, pleaded guilty to the charge of indecent assault when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
He, however, has to wait until January 28 for his fate to be decided.
The court heard that the accused locked his daughter inside a room and told her that he was jealous of her spending so much time with her boyfriend.
brandished knife
Statements from the complainant reveal that on January 7, just as she had come from the bathroom, the accused man who was wielding a knife, locked her in a room and reportedly told her that she was not going anywhere.
It is alleged that the following day the complainant was awakened by the accused standing over her and holding a knife at her throat.
The accused then reportedly kissed the complainant on her breasts and all over her body before continuing to sniff her private parts.
A report was made to a family member, however, and later to the police, and the accused was arrested and charged.Oneil Friend was sentenced to six months hard labour in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court where he appeared on charges of indecent assault.
Arresting officer Constable Clausil Clarke of the Spanish Town police told Registrar Magistrate Lorner Errar that on January 19, at about 7 p.m. the complainant was inside a wholesale shopping when Friend came up behind her and started to rub against her. Someone brought Friend's act to the attention of the woman, but by that time the man had already climaxed. Friend then reportedly ran from the scene.
The young woman started to chase Friend along the busy Burke Road, shouting "Hold him! Hold him! Him wet mi up!"
By the time she caught up with a breathless Friend, other persons converged, but before they could deliver their brand of justice, the police intervened and he was apprehended and charged.
Friend pleaded guilty. He told RM Errar that he is a construction worker and was just passing through St. Catherine.
When the judge enquired why he did the act, he told the court that "mi noh know ma'am." He was subsequently sentenced. The judge told the complainant to be more careful as there are many persons like Friend around.Video showing bodies of Tivoli 5 on YouTube |
BY KARYL WALKER Observer staff reporter walkerk@jamaicaobserver.com Wednesday, January 23, 2008 |
A video recording purportedly showing the mangled bodies of the five men slain by the security forces at Keith Avenue in Tivoli Gardens on Sunday, January 13, has been posted on the popular video-sharing website YouTube.com.
The recording shows the bodies laying on slabs in a funeral home.
All the bodies have head and upper body wounds and at least one man's arm seemed to be broken at the elbow, apparently from the force of the bullets. Only one of the bodies was clad in a shirt. The others were shirtless.
Cries of "Why them kill the boy fah?" and other comments are heard in the background of the recording.
The poorly shot video appears to have been recorded by a cellular phone and is posted under the heading, "Tivoli dead 5".
The gruesome recording was posted on the website on January 18 by a user who goes by the name of 'howill3' and has received 84 viewings. No comments were posted.
It is not clear how the posting of the video will affect an upcoming coroner's inquest which was called for by member of parliament for the area, Prime Minister Bruce Golding, after a visit to the area last Wednesday.
The five men, identified as 23-year-old Fitzroy Daley, 18-year-old Conrad Francis, 22-year-old Oneil Palmer, 20-year-old Ronaldo Mitchell, all of Tivoli Gardens addresses, and 23-year-old Kwesi Cunningham of Eltham Park in St Catherine, were fatally shot after a joint police/military team, who was in search of a member of the feared Stone Crusher gang, stormed sections of the community. The police said the men were killed in a shoot-out.
The following day, police displayed nine high-powered weapons and 481 rounds of ammunition which, they said, were recovered during the operation.
Irate residents of the area have since denied the police version of events and say the men were killed in cold *la*hd.
Post-mortem examinations were conducted on the remains of the five men on Monday under the careful watch of Scottish pathologist, Professor Derrick Pounder, who was summoned to the island by Public Defender Earl Witter.
(CNN) In a decision she attributes to "patriotic, political and personal" reasons, former First Daughter Caroline Kennedy is endorsing Barack Obama for president.
In an op-ed in Sunday's New York Times published on the paper's Web site Saturday night, titled "A President Like My Father," Kennedy writes: "It isn't that the other candidates are not experienced or knowledgeable. But this year, that may not be enough. We need a change in the leadership of this country just as we did in 1960.
"I have never had a president who inspired me the way people tell me that my father inspired them. But for the first time, I believe I have found the man who could be that president not just for me, but for a new generation of Americans."
Caroline Kennedy's uncle, Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy, has not yet endorsed a candidate in the Democratic presidential race. Her cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has endorsed Hillary Clinton.

A repentant gunman with *lo** on his hands says corrupt policemen and politicians are helping to sustain violent crime in Jamaica.
From atop a two-storey building in one of Kingston's most desolate inner-city communities, Gunner (not his real name) calmly and candidly speaks of his life of crime and a desire to change.
Just 27 years old, he has a past that he is struggling to leave behind; but this is proving difficult because he was introduced to guns from as early as age eight.
"Is a big yard mi did grow up inna. Mi father neva deh bout, is just mi mother," Gunner relates.
"A whole heap a people did live inna di yard and nuff gun. From mi a dem age deh, mi a roll wid di big man dem, a step pon (commit) crime," he adds.
Like his community, Gunner is also trying to swim against the tide, but he seems to be drowning in despair.
His immediate environment is unkempt. All around him are decrepit buildings, separated by pools of murky water. The pothole-filled roads are filthy and the patches of darkness encircling the community are foreboding.
In Gunner's case, it seems, the ghetto makes the man.
BAPTISED IN THE CHURCH
His baptism into 'badness' might have been short-lived if church and school had not failed him.
Gunner was baptised in the Church at age 15, but he did not stay there for very long. Nor did he stay in school for very long, as violence forced him to flee two learning institutions. The streets were his saviour and this is where he earned his stripes as a brave and deadly warrior.
"The street is a tough place. Yuh affi brave and smart fi survive. When wi a step pon crime, wi step hard," states Gunner, in admitting to a life which includes shootings and robberies.
"One thing though, wi nuh do innocent murder," he says.
By innocent murder, Gunner means that persons not connected to a particular incident are not shot. While not giving a victim count, he says he has "been there and done that". Also, he cannot count the number of times he has been to jail or the number of crimes he has committed.
In over a decade of shootings and robberies, Gunner has never been shot in a confrontation. A bullet hit him once when he was cleaning a gun. Aside from being smart and brave, he says, alliance with corrupt cops has been an important avenue of safety for him and other 'shottas' (gunmen).
"No ends (turf) caan exist without di police help. Once yuh gi dem dem regular 30-pack ($30,000) or 50-pack or 100-pack, yuh ends criss (safe). If a curfew a go drop, dem tell yuh fi move or hide yuh things good ... but wi nuh really trust dem. Police wi tek yuh money and kill yuh same way," he declares.
As Gunner warms to the conversation that appear to purge his soul, he paints a damning picture of some top cops who collect money from criminals to free a colleague from jail or to turn a blind eye when they stumble upon a gun.
"Yuh can pay dem fi kill a bwoy fi yuh," says Gunner, the second in command in one of Kingston's deadliest gangs. But it is not just the police, he says, who contribute to the menacing presence of gunmen in communities and the nasty circle of violence. He points to politicians too.
"How yuh tink man get rifle and money more time?
"One ends (turf) right now have 15 rifles and a politician mek dem reach deh," Gunner says.
He hopes, though, that all this madness would end one day, but, in reality, things are only going to get worse.
"Maybe di hanging thing will work. A nuff bad man bawl like baby when wi go fi dem an dem si dem a go dead. And when man put di first one pon him, him wet himself up."
FORCED TO CHANGE
Gunner vows not to allow himself to get close to the hangman's noose. He says that the birth of his daughter and the presence of an ever-loving girlfriend have been forcing him to change.
"A dem mi a live fah now. My little daughter, mi love har so til. An mi woman, if a neva she mi would dead long time. A nuff time mi attempt fi go step pon crime an she lock up di door wid mi inna di house an mek mi know mi caan leave," he says.
Despite having endured the rough road of crime, Gunner says that the streets are just too diverse to come up with a prescription to solve crime. Young boys, he reasons, are more aggressive than ever and they have access to guns. He says they are eager to rob and kill, too, their goal being to be viewed as 'dads'.
"Is about getting ratings. Yuh get nuff money and di most girls and a dat de youtie dem a look pon, to. Every one a dem, nuh matter how young, waan step pon crime and dem nuh care who (is the victim)," Gunner says.
As he calmly takes a sip of Guinness stout, a commotion below drew our attention. Two young boys, hardly 17, were squaring off over ganja. One threatened he would gun down the other and his entire family, something which made Gunner shake his head.
"Yuh si, a di same thing mi a talk bout," he says, as the conversation ends.
Dear Pastor,
I am a 26-year-old woman. I'm in a situation I don't understand. I was brought up in a Christian home with a single parent, my mother. However I met my father when I was seven years old. When I met him I found out he was a Rastafarian. He would take me to visit the 12 tribes, of which he was a member. My father died shortly after and only left me with memories of him being a Rasta that left me always have a liking for Rastafarians.
When I grew up I found myself starting to be attracted to Rastas, as I thought they would share the same belief and moral convictions just as my father. That's how I started my first relationship with a Rasta man. After I got to know him I was told by him that I would have to sleep with his friends and also his brother. I didn't know what to do as I was very ignorant to everything, just returning from abroad, where I spent most of my teenage life, and had no friends to enlighten me on what Rastas believe. So I kept on seeing the guy thinking he was just making fun, until they all started to come on to me, one by one.
One day I went shopping and met another Rastafarian. As I was very unhappy and lonely I decided to exchange numbers, that's how I started dating Rasta number two. Everything was cool until one night we were in his room having sex and one of his so-called friends asked to join us. I told him no, that I wasn't into those things. However, he got up to use the bathroom and he returned with his friend who was not a Rasta. The Rasta guy whom I was seeing held me down on the bed while he called his friend to have sex with me. I cried and begged them not to do it, but they never cared how I was feeling or what I was saying as they continued to do it. After his friend was finished, he came on me and finished it off.
Pastor, I really don't know what to do anymore, as it has been very hard for me. Ever since all that happened I tried to move on, but I can't, all I do is stay at home and cry. Please help me, as the memories sometimes cause me to think suicidal thoughts. Please help me, I don't know what to do and I am too embarrassed to start life over.
T., Jamaica.
Dear T.,
The experience you have written about would make my readers who respect women feel very sad. The first Rastaman who told you that you would have to sleep with other Rastas didn't care much about you, he allowed his brethren to sexually abuse you and he took pleasure in doing so. They messed up your mind.
Unfortunately, the second Rastaman you became involved with was no better, he too behaved like a beast.
Thank God not all Rastas abuse women. I suggest that you call a family counsellor and make an appointment to see him or her. You need to go through therapy.
PastorDear Pastor,
I am a regular reader of your column. I hope you will continue helping people and hope that you can help me. I am 21 years old and my boyfriend is 36 years of age. We've been together since I was 16 years old. We are about to get married, but there is a problem. I think he is sick or maybe I am thinking wrong.
Whenever we are about to make love it takes him awhile to get an erection and as soon as he gets an erection, he looses it. I am worried about him.
When I ask him if he doesn't have feelings for me, or if he is just having other problems, he would say it's because he is tired. But it is something that happens all the time, and it is getting worse. He keeps talking about kids, and sometimes for two nights he doesn't even get the erection he normally gets even if it is for a few minutes or seconds, so I don't know how is that possible.
I love him with all my heart. I have never cheated on him and I don't want to. I have even let him use his fingers and that is hurting me.
Please help me; I need your fatherly advice. I need it now more than ever. Please, Please, Please, Please, Please tell me what to do.
Concerned, Westmoreland, Jamaica
Dear Concerned,
I think you should accompany this man to see a doctor. There are many reasons why guys suffer from impotence; I have mentioned many cases in previous columns.
This guy might be suffering from stress, I really don't know. I believe that after the doctor has seen him both of you will be in a better position to understand why he is not able to function. I am glad that both of you are planning to get married so encourage him to see a doctor immediately.

'Faking' their voices through the use of computers has become an increasing trend among dancehall artistes.
'Auto tune' is the process by which computer software is used to alter the keys, pitch and vocal range that artistes normally would not accomplish. While numerous artistes are using auto tune to develop their signature sound there are those who believe they are not authentic.
Artistes such as Munga Honou-rable, Demarco, Busy Signal have used auto tune in some of their songs. However, auto tune was made popular recently by the hip-hop industry especially by T-Pain who has perfected the smooth yet unusually high pitched voice.
Ninjaman is one of those in the industry who believes this practice is a poor one. He says the use of auto tune is 'foolishness'.
"Di fool fool something weh some artiste like Munga a use. A foolishness dat, man. Di people dem a hear a voice weh di people dem naah go hear pon a live stage show. Mek di people dem hear di artiste dem voice and lyrics and love weh dem hear," he said.
Ninjaman cited the use of auto tune as the only thing that will prevent Munga from reaching far in the music industry. "When di people dem hear Munga pon a stage show dem hear a totally different voice. Some place weh him (Munga) go, di people dem nuh believe seh a him," he added.
Ninjaman said that the artistes in the industry who are successful are those who use their natural voices at all times.
Munga, however, defends his use of auto tune. "I use it for experimental purposes. It does sound different, but I am the writer of all my songs. People are afraid of what they don't know and can't control," he said.
He added, "Mi stop go school fi do music, and at the end of the day, a major part of it is business."
Munga recently came back from Barbados and in the latter part of 2007, he toured approximately 25 states in the United States of America. He will soon release his album Bad From Mi Born.
Good practice
While it has its detractors, there are those that believe the practice is a good one.
"I use it to put the songs on key and enhance the vocals. I don't use it as a style. Some people use it and it don't mek sense 'cause you can't use it on everything," said Adrian of Truckback Records. Truckback has produced the gearbox rhythm which features Erup's Click Mi Finger.
Adrain says auto tune can bring a different style and flavour to music, but it should not be overdone.
DeMarco admits to using the device in his songs like Fallen Soldiers and Duppy Know Who Fi Frighten. "I use it 'cause it is just a plus to di music 'cause it mek it sound good, but mi nuh use it pon all a mi song dem," he commented.
He says he does not feel he has cheated the audience of a good performance as he can hold his keys during a live performance
And she admitted she had just popped six VALIUM pills to bring myself down.
Amys spiral of self-destruction was revealed in a harrowing video filmed at her East London home and seen by The Sun.
It will horrify relatives and friends who fear she could soon end up dead.
Wedding pic ...
Amy and Blake
The footage also laid bare the Back To Black singers squalid lifestyle as she stumbled around in a grubby vest surrounded by junkies and parasitic hangers-on.
At one point, lank-haired Amy is warned to watch out for smashed glass on the floor as she scours a bedroom for her kitten barefoot.
The dazed and confused star accuses a guest of taking the pet from a quiet room into the drug-fuelled hubbub of her house party.
She mumbles wearily: If I was that cat Id leave on my own accord Id call a cab. It aint right. This aint Toys R Us. They took my cat.
A friend of the waif-like chart-topper said last night:
Amy is locked in a nosedive towards oblivion she is killing herself. The video shows a woman completely out of control.
Her family and her few real friends have begged her to pull herself from the brink many times. But here is proof she has pressed the self-destruct button.
Her fans would scarcely recognise the drug-addled wreck in the video as the talented performer they love.
We can only pray she will get a wake-up call when she watches the video herself and sees the terrible state she is in.
The pal added: Amy is looking ill and dirty, and is so thin you wonder how much more she can take. She MUST get help.
Amy threw the party at her trendy home in the early hours of Friday just before she went to court to support husband BLAKE FIELDER-CIVIL at a remand hearing.
Within seconds of greeting pals at the door, she greedily snorted powdered ecstasy offered on the corner of a credit card.
Minutes later, with her head swimming, she is seen on the video being offered cocaine.
Big talent ... Amy the singer
A friend cautions her not to take too much because the drug is from a highly-concentrated stash.
But Amy disregards the warning and hungrily snorts a clump.
The star, her new bottle-blonde hair looking dull and lifeless, then drifts through her lounge in search of the next fix.
She appears oblivious to booze and drugged-up hangers-on milling around and playing on her pool table.
The surreal scene is played out against a soundtrack of 1950s songs from the stereo, including Its All In The Game by crooner Tommy Edwards, who drank himself to death at 47.
Just before 5am, Amy heads up a spiral staircase to her dimly-lit bedroom, where she squats on her leopardskin print duvet and chats to scruffy pals as she primes a glass pipe with rocks of crack.
She fires it up with a lighter and inhales deeply several times, holding the fumes in her lungs as long as possible to maximise the effect.
The voice that has sold millions of records is transformed into a weak, breathless croak as she tries to talk.
On a wall in the background is a wedding picture of Amy and Fielder-Civil, who is in jail awaiting trial on assault and perverting justice charges.
Pals ask her to go out with them, but she mutters: Id be useless to you because Ive had about six Valium.
Ironically, she insists she cannot party too heavily as she has to be up at 8am to get to the court on time.
Amys real friends believe she is now at constant risk of an overdose like the one which led to her notorious collapse last August.
One said: Someone has to turn her around, otherwise a great talent will disappear forever very soon.
Benin coach Reinhard Fabisch was approached before an African Cup of Nations match against Mali by a man asking if he would help influence the outcome of the match.
Benin lost the Group B match 1- 0 after conceding a penalty at the start of the second half.
''He wanted to find out from me if there was any possibility of manipulating (the match),'' Fabisch said yesterday in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. ''I told him, 'Look, you have two minutes to leave the hotel or I will call the police.'''
Fabisch said the man spoke to him at the team's hotel Saturday, two days before Benin's opening match in Sekondi.
''He approached me in the hotel reception,'' Fabisch said. ''But I cut him short and told him to leave. It doesn't help football. But obviously it's today's mentality.''
Fabisch believes he would have been offered money had he accepted the proposal, but said no money was offered initially.
Benin next plays Ivory Coast in Sekondi on Friday. The tournament ends February 10 and is being held across Ghana
