The unlikely has occurred. Gospel artiste Stitchie has collaborated with hardcore dancehall artiste, Elephant Man, on a gospel track called What A Mighty God.
The song is a remake of the popular praise and worship song of the same name. It carries almost the same tune as the original with differences in rhythm and some of the words.
"Ambassador Stitchie and Elephant Man clearing bad mind an' cleaning up the dancehall," says Stitchie in the beginning of the song.
Elephant Man follows later in the hook of the song singing:
"What a mighty God we serve ...
I command wicked people in the name of the Lord
Clean up your heart, be free
'cause wi naah give the devil no authority
fi walk all over we"
In sections, the beat changes with both artistes alternating. There are even sections of the song in which they sound alike.
Ele's ideaThis collaboration was not entirely Stitchie's idea. He says on March 10 he was called by his friend Kirk Bennett who told him that Elephant Man wanted to speak with him. He said he welcomed the call as he has great respect for Elephant Man as a person and artiste.
"He (Elephant Man) said, "Father, we need some Jesus Christ inna di dancehall, and me want mi and you fi do a song, mi Teacher. He told me of the idea and played the rhythm over the phone for me to hear it and it was very, very good. He asked me if I could come to the studio and let us get it done in the morning, but I told him no, tomorrow won't work, let's do it tonight, so he agreed," said Stitchie whose real name is Cleve Laing.
Stitchie says he is happy about doing the song and even more so with Elephant Man whom he has known before converting to Christianity.
"As citizens of the kingdom of God, we were mandated to be light and salt, but some of us have chosen to segregate ourselves from those who are in darkness, and then expect them to find their way out on their own, forgetting that someone showed us the way out of our darkness into the Marvellous Light," said Stitchie who is in Germany as part of his European tour.
He added, "I did not choose this path, it was he (Jesus Christ) who chose me, so those who he called he knew and those who he knew he predestined, so I will be obedient to his calling upon my life and I will show no bias or disregard for for any artistes, secular or gospel."
Stitchie says he was pleased to work with Elephant Man because he is an 'excellent artiste and a man with good heart for people and a passion for God. He says he noticed that Elephant Man was crying out for Jesus Christ to be part of the dancehall and he did not want to deny him this.
He says he has been praying for Elephant Man and other secular artistes to be converted. So far, Chrissy D has become a Christian and also Kirk Bennett who was part of Shocking Vibes Crew.
Though this song with Elephant Man is the first collaboration with a dancehall artiste, it is not his first collaboration with a secular artiste. He was invited by actor, Steven Segal to Warsaw, Poland, to record two duets for his album and he has recorded with Lukie D and Richie Stephens.
Elephant Man is no stranger to gospel as he did Bun Bad Mind which was a cover version of Marcia Providence's single Hear My Cry O Lord.
"This single is all about love," an elated Ele said. "True we a nuh bad mind youth and we heart clean, Stitchie know that a me a the right man to do this song with him."
*lo**, Gold and Green will explore the world of Kingston gunmen, fringe players, petty thieves and corrupt politics in a highly stylized manner, according to Bucknor. As far as the actors are concerned, considerable screen time will be devoted to conversations and monologues that reveal the characters' senses of humor and perspectives on life.
*lo**, Gold and Green is a neo-noir comedy that explores modern Jamaican pop culture. The film joins intersecting story lines that revolve around the exploits of Sekada, a third generation expert gunman who returns to Trench Town ten years after having fled as a child, and refuses to shoot anybody," said Bucknor, who is casting male and female actors of all ages.
The film is expected to premier at Flashpoint Film Festival in 2009. Flashpoint has become the principal forum for film and television production in the Caribbean , featuring award winning film makers such as Trinidadian Yao Ramesar, who produced Sista God.
Flashpoint Film Festival is moving from its home at The Caves, Negril for the past three years, to its new base in Port Royal at the Old Naval Hospital from June 5 8. Firefly Films will premier three completed feature length films this year, which is a first for the festival. The three features are Better Mus' Come, The Candy Shop and Pothole.

A Jamaican man who was planning to board a flight at Orlando International Airport was detained and questioned by federal agents after they found him with components for pipe b****s and other explosive materials in his luggage on Tuesday April 1, 2008.
The suspect, who has not been identified, was scheduled to fly on Air Jamaica Flight 80 to Montego Bay at 2:55 p.m. when Transportation Security Administration officers spotted him acting suspiciously around noon, TSA and law enforcement officials said the man was "acting strange" and questioned his mental stability.
He seemed of unsound mind as he was grinning while the officer search his bag on the curb, he was wearing blue jeans and a white long sleeved shirt, was searched by a b**** technician on a curb outside the airport. His camouflage-styled backpack also was seized. An Orlando Police Department b**** squad searched his luggage, turning up "suspicious items," .
Law enforcement officials said among the materials found were unassembled materials which could be used to make a pipe b**** including pipes with end caps, metal ball bearings and potentially explosive or flammable liquids. Other materials involved instructions on wiring, making explosives and hand grenades.
Though the airport was shut down for over 3hours no information was given out as to whether the suspect was travelling alone.
Seeing that summer is fast approaching and it's the season for fashion and non-stop partying we thought it would only be fitting to address the issues of Celebrity DOs and DON'Ts and who better to use than two shining examples of high profile celebrities, Beenie Man and Barbee, many may argue that Barbee doesn't warrant being called a celebrity, but in our book she qualifies because she is like the Paris Hilton of Jamaica, hasn't done much with regards to her career as an artiste, but she has found other innovative ways to get her name on everyone's lips to the point of people become fascinated with her, that we won't get into at this point in time.
Now as celebrities there are certain unwritten rules of engagement that MUST be followed, you know like be nice to your fans, sign a few autographs, chit chat when time permits, oblige a few photo opts and so on, and then there is the written rules that says you MUST dress nicely/ fashionably, especially when in attendance at an high profile event like the Oscars, Grammys or even our own Youth View Awards.
Apparently our dearly beloved Beenie Man (who was crowned Best Dressed Male Entertainer recently) and Barbee missed that memo/rule completely and the fashion crisis that ensued was a sight for sore eyes. OK take a look at the photos below and formulate your own opinions. (see photos below)Reggae crooner Terry Linen has announced his presence back on the scene in no uncertain terms with his "Mood For Love" single, which is already receiving good rotation on air.
The singer wrapped up the video for the single last Friday and it's now in the editing stages soon to be premiered.
Recording on the Uplifting Music International label and Shot on location in Blue Mountain, the music video was done under the direction of Green Gorilla Media.
The plot for the video is the typical boy missing girl and all the anguish of longing for her and pining for that special someone who just lights up your life comes out in "Mood For Love."
The director exercises his creative genius here as every scene, every touch, every look depicted in the video brings out the central theme of the song.
"Mood For Love", which was written by Terry Linen and his friend Fitz Livermore aka Favourite, is already receiving good rotation on air. It will also be one of the featured tracks on Linen's 14-track album due out in February 2008.
"Mood For Love" is Terry Linen's comeback after being off the scene for a while. The diminutive singer who carries a distinctive voice made some impact on the scene with songs such as "Couldn't Be The Girl For Me" and "Save Me Jah Jah Jah". But it wasn't until 1999 when he recorded a cover of Whitney Houston's "Your Love Is My Love" that he catapulted into international attention. On the new label Terry is hoping to once again dominate the music scene.
A 16-year-old girl who admitted to lying that she was sexually assaulted by a man, was taken into custody at the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday and the accused man set free.
The teen, who was on the witness stand, revealed that she was not raped by the accused man, but by two other men. She said she was pressured by the police to say that the accused man raped her.
When RM Lorna Errar Gayle enquired why did she not report the men who had harm her, she failed to respond, but insisted that it was not the accused, who was charged with carnal abuse.
Having heard that, the RM told the man he was free to go and ordered that the child be taken into custody and charged with perverting the course of justice. She is to appear in the Children's Court later this month.
In recent times the courts in St Catherine have been overwhelmed with cases of a sexual nature committed against juveniles, which resulted in several police personnel asking persons with knowledge of these incidents to inform them.INDIANAPOLIS - Former Indiana Rep. Lee Hamilton is backing Sen. Barack Obama in an endorsement that could boost the presidential hopeful's national security standing, The Associated Press has learned.

Hamilton, who during a three-decade House career rose to be chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Intelligence committees, also was vice chairman of the Sept. 11 commission. He planned to announce his endorsement of Obama on Wednesday.
In an interview Hamilton said he viewed the Illinois senator as a champion of "the politics of consensus and not of partisan division."
"I think he is driven by the search for the common good," Hamilton said.
Hamilton is best known as the top Democrat on the panel that investigated the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He also was co-chairman of the Iraq Study Group, a bipartisan commission that assessed U.S. policy in Iraq.
Although Hamilton is not a Democratic superdelegate, his backing comes on the heels of several high-profile endorsements for Obama, who leads Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in delegates for the party's nomination. Sens. Bob Casey Jr. of Pennsylvania and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota endorsed Obama in recent days.
Hamilton is the highest-profile Indiana Democrat to back Obama before the state's May 6 primary. Sen. Evan Bayh and the bulk of Indiana's Democratic Party leadership have campaigned actively for Clinton in a state where neither candidate is regarded as a natural front-runner.
Hamilton, once mentioned as a possible running mate for Bill Clinton, told the AP he believed Obama was the candidate most likely to unite the country.
"I begin by asking myself what kind of leadership the country needs at this juncture and I think, for me at least, the answer is that you want a candidate that will try to bring together a country that is very evenly divided, a country in which partisanship has been very sharp and to try to get a candidate who will create a new sense of national unity and will try to transcend the divisions within the country," he said.
Hamilton spent 34 years in Congress representing a southern Indiana district before retiring in 1999.
Hamilton now leads the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington. In a speech there last year, written by a longtime aide to Hamilton, Obama warned Pakistan that he would use military force if necessary to root out terrorists.
Dear A.H.,
Although a very frightening symptom, *lo** in the semen is seldom related to a serious underlying cause. It is an uncommon symptom of prostate cancer, as a result of the cancer invading the seminal vesicles that lie adjacent to the base of the prostate gland. This would not be of concern to someone of your age, as the condition usually occurs in men aged over 50. The problem may also occur when the prostate gland is inflamed (prostatitis).
