Vybz Kartel a.k.a Addi di Teachas single Money Fi Spend is racing up local charts, and has landed at #6 on the Jamaica Music Countdown charts after only five weeks after being released. The Big Ship label single is also racing up the Stampede Street Vibes chart. In the meantime, his other single, Trailer Load A Money debuted on the RE TV dancehall charts last week at #18.

Blak_Ryno.jpgWhile he was pleased with his own success, he pointed to the rise of his protégé Blak Ryno whose Evil People song also hit the RE charts this week.

It is all going according to plan, you know everything take time, so even the time it tek  Blak Ryno fi even gain popularity inna Jamaica, it surprising to Vybz Kartel, he said.

He also commented on the recent arrest of Raj, the mastermind behind the Audiomaxx website that allegedly sold reggae and dancehall music over the internet, breaching the rights of hundreds of local artistes. Vybz Kartel advocated execution by firing squad for the music pirate.

I have nothing good to say about a racist that attempts to exploit the very people he discriminates against, he told One876Entertainment

The deejay will be hosting a 'soft' launch of his Vybz Rum brand at Weekenz on Friday, April 11th.

50 Cent hit the air today (April 7) to speak about his fist fight with boxer Floyd Mayweather, explain his baby mama drama, and officially boot Young Buck from G-Unit.

In what proved to be a revealing talk, 50 Cent called into Hot 97's "Miss Jones In The Morning" radio show and addressed recent complaints from G-Unit rapper Young Buck.

As SOHH previously reported, Young Buck claimed that he hasn't seen any royalty checks from G-Unit or 50 Cent. Today, Fif announced that he would no longer be giving Buck the benefit of the doubt and took the opportunity to officially drop the rapper from the group.

"You can take this as official notice right here," 50 Cent told Miss Jones. "Pretty much you can say Young Buck is no longer in the group G-unit but signed to G-unit as a solo artist."[Listen here]

After being dogged by blogs and gossip hounds alike, 50 originally called into the station to explain why he had his son and son's mother evicted from a home he owns.

"I was giving her a half million dollars a year," he said. "She thought she was entitled to 17 percent because she was listening to these chicks she has around her."

However, Fif didn't stop at airing out his baby mama drama and G-Unit beefs. To put to bed questions about the rumored fight he had with Mayweather, 50 said, "It wasn't like a fight it was more of like a scuffle."

When asked who won, he replied, "Floyd is no longer undefeated.

A girl of three was fighting for life last night after falling four storeys from a Primark escalator.

The youngster plunged 100ft from the shop's second floor to the lower ground floor through the gap between the up and down stairways.

One report said she trapped her hand and was dragged over the moving handrail. She is critically ill in hospital with broken bones and serious internal injuries.

The incident happened at chain's giant store in Liverpool. Paul Donnelly, 15, saw the girl fall. He said: "I thought it was a dropped bag. Then I realised it was a child.

Police closed the store as the child was taken to Royal Liverpool Hospital. She was last night transferred to the intensive care unit at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. Primark said: We're shocked and and doing all we can to assist the investigation.

Promoters of the Linden Town Week in Guyana are looking to bring dancehall artiste Mavado to headline a concert during the celebrations this month end. However there are some individuals who are against Mavado performing there because of his promotion of gun use in his music. They argue that this is not the type of music that should be promoted at this time in a nation still recovering from two massacres in which 23 people were cold *lo**edly gunned down. This according to a story posted on insomniac slacker web blog. A sample of the DJ's lyrics was posted on the site to bring home their case against him. Dem ah chatta dem ah qwaril Yo mek mi rise di double barrel For di christmas dem nuh talk bout nuh sorrel Gangster nuh qwaril when we shoot we nuh chennel Gunshot inna you forid Boy gun dem ah war wid AK mi drive inna mi car wid heartless killers mi parr wid (yeah easy) Wid mi gun mi ah squeeze I am not alieyah just believe me...

local entertainment cable station HYPE-TV and satellite giants Direct-TV have part company. Apparently the partnership never manifested as planned, due to the contract from Direct-TV being a bit too restrictive for the local station.

In an interview with a member of HYPE's liaison team, they explained to 876radio.com the reason for the change of heart.

"First let me say our parting was on amicable terms, we left because we found the contract a little restrictive and seeing they are a satellite company, and from our research we've found that most of our Caribbean people, who is our target audience subscribes to Cable, we were missing out. hence the reason to re-group and change focus.

However, there is still some good news for our Caribbean neighbours and other subscribers worldwide as the station is now available via 'Irie TV', a IPTV (Internet Protocol Televison), which is accessible anywhere there is broadband internet connectivity".

The Caribbean television network offers content from across the Caribbean 24 hours a day. Using a specialize Box that allows, subscribers to view their favorite television channels as well as tune into radio stations from across the Caribbean.

A church brother was arrested recently and charged with manslaughter after one of his church sisters collapsed and died while they were having sex.

Robert Morgan of Portmore, St Catherine, appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday in connection with the death of Wendy Smith, who the court heard was one of the choir directors at their church. Morgan was remanded and will return to court on April 15.

The court was told that on February 15 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., Smith went to visit Morgan at his house. Smith reportedly collapsed while the two were having sex and was pronounced dead at hospital.

The court was further told that a post-mortem report as to the cause of death is still outstanding, however, investigations by the police led to Morgan being charged with manslaughter.

The investigating officer pointed out that according to Morgan, the sexual activities between him and Smith were sometimes heated. It was also revealed in court that sometimes while they were having sex, a cord was tied around the woman's neck and at times they would have anal sex.

Morgan's lawyer Earl Hamilton, told the court that Smith's death was an unfortunate incident. RM Lorna Errar said she expects full documentation to be handed over to the court when the matter returns.

The Hanover police are now on the hunt for two of three boys from Clarendon who confessed that they were planning to rob a bank in Old Harbour.

The manhunt comes after they escaped from a place of safety in Hanover where they were being held.

On March 9, the boys, aged 13 and 15, along with another 12-year-old, were arrested by the Old Harbour police after they reportedly confessed to planning a robbery in the town.

Police reports summarise that a resident overheard the boys' plans as they held a conversation at a fast-food restaurant.

It was further reported that the resident witnessed the boys dumping what was later found to be an imitation gun wrapped in a flower pot.

The man accosted the boys and took them to the police station, where they confessed that they had planned to rob the bank.

They were subsequently charged under the Child Care and Protection Act and were taken taken to a place of safety in Hanover, where they reportedly walked off the compound, just three days after being remanded.

Reports are that the boys were last seen outside and were later discovered missing.
One876Entertainment understands that there has been a small break-through in the investigations in the shooting incident recently at the La Roose night club in Portmore Jamaica where one man was shot dead and six persons injured.

British_Link_Shooting.jpgThe investigators at the St. Catherine South Police Division yesterday charged Michael Robinson of 29 Riverside Drive in St. Andrew with three counts of shooting with intent, assault and illegal possession of a firearm after an identification parade.

Just days before this, one of the shows promoter Yvonne Lena British Reid, 34, was fined $80,000 or six months for breaching the Noise Abatement Act which states that persons holding dances and other such events must cease playing the music at 2:00 a.m.

Beanie Sigel was sentenced to three months in prison by a Philadelphia judges yesterday (March 28) for giving probation officials a fake urine sample.

According to The Associated Press, the probation officials also revealed that Sigel tested positive for Xanax and Percocet five times this month.

Sigel was currently serving a six month term in a halfway house for violating his probation last year.

Sean Levert dies in jail

CLEVELAND Sean Levert, a third of the 1980s R&B trio LeVert and son of lead O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, has died after falling ill while serving a jail term. He was 39. Authorities said Monday that an autopsy was inconclusive but foul play was ruled out.

Levert was sentenced last week to one year and 10 months in jail for failing to pay $89,025 in child support. He died at Lutheran Hospital in Cleveland late Sunday, less than an hour after he was taken there from the jail, said coroner Frank Miller.

Levert was sentenced by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy Margaret Russo, who said a presentence report indicated he had been addicted to marijuana from the time he was 14 until recently. He didn't speak at his sentencing and gave no indication of any health problems, the judge said Monday.

His brother Gerald Levert, who had success as a solo artist after leaving their trio died in 2006 at age 40 of an accidental mix of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

The brothers had formed LeVert in the 1980s with childhood friend Marc Gordon. Their hits included "Baby I'm Ready," "(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind" and "Casanova."

"Casanova" was nominated for a Grammy in 1988 for best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocal. It was also nominated for best R&B song.

At Gerald Levert's funeral service in November 2006, Sean Levert and his father performed "Dance With My Father" and personalized the words for Gerald. The elder Levert's group, the O'Jays, was known for such smash hits as "Back Stabbers" and "Love Train."

Sean Levert found a new third partner last year and was trying to revive LeVert.

An autopsy was done Monday but no immediate cause of death was determined, according to Powell Caesar, a spokesman for the Cuyahoga County's coroner's office, but he said there was no evidence of foul play or trauma.

Levert suffered from high *lo** pressure and had been hallucinating in jail, Caesar said. Toxicology reports could take four to six weeks, he said.

Warden Kevin McDonough said earlier that Levert had been sick and guards were watching him at the jail's regular cellblock because he had been acting strangely.

Sean Levert had pleaded guilty last week to six counts of nonsupport involving children ages 11, 15 and 17.

A man who used a sledgehammer to inflict fatal head injuries to his mother and two brothers has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

Christopher Oliver, 26, who was employed as a clerk at the Taxpayer Audit and Assessment Department, pleaded guilty in November last year to manslaughter charges. The guilty plea was taken based on diminished responsibility.

After he pleaded guilty, Justice Bryan Sykes put off sentencing until yesterday in order to get further psychiatric reports.

Dr Colleen Gooden testified in the Home Circuit Court yesterday that Oliver was suffering from a chronic psychotic disorder and had lost touch with reality at the time of the incident. She said he would not be a threat to society if he got regular treatment and was monitored by mental-health professionals.

The deceased are Myrtle Oliver, 48; Oneil Oliver, 17; and Omar Oliver, 14; all of Telfer Close, Twickenham Heights, St Catherine.

Oliver's 20-year-old sister and a three-year-old relative were also injured during the attack.

The facts of the case were that about 10:30 p.m. on September 21 last year, one of Oliver's sisters came home and saw him with a sledge hammer in his hand. The sister said the accused had a wild look in his eyes and he hit her in the head with the tool.

mother intervened

When his mother intervened and told him to put down the sledge hammer, he hit his mother in the head. The sister managed to escape and went to the police station and made a report. The police went to the house where they found the bodies at different locations in the house.

It was also reported that Oliver was always complaining that people at his workplace were 'obeahing' him and that his girlfriend was trying to poison him.

Family members disclosed that Oliver began studying witchcraft, had human skulls at the house and was always on the computer researching the subject of witchcraft.

Attorney-at-law Franklin Grenyion submitted that Oliver be sentenced to less than eight years, based on the medical evidence.

The judge said based on the doctor's testimony, he would not impose a sentence of life imprisonment.

naomi-campbell.jpgWhat's with Naomi Campbell, at her age one would think she would start exhibiting a more mature behavior, nope here she goes in another spat, again! Following her run in with the police at Heathrow airport she is now on bail .

According to AP news Campbell, 37, left the airport police station just after midnight. London's Metropolitan Police said she was released pending further inquiries and told to report to a police station in late May.

The London-born supermodel was arrested late Thursday on suspicion of assaulting an officer after police were called to a disturbance at the airport. Since Terminal 5 opened last week, more than 28,000 bags have been separated from their owners. Witnesses said Campbell was aboard a British Airways plane due to depart for Los Angeles when she became involved in a dispute because one of her bags had been lost. During the dispute, Campbell allegedly spit on the officer. Campbell's spokeswoman, Annabel Fox, said Campbell was traveling to the U.S. to attend a memorial service and had boarded the plane when she was told one of her two checked bags was missing.

Man left with $12k in damages after Circuit City GPS install gone wrong

circuit-city-gps-install.jpg Installs gone wrong certainly aren't all that uncommon, but the tale told by one VTECnical of the 8thcivic.com forum is undoubtedly a cut above the rest, and could well have you reconsidering that suction cup option. As VTECnical tells it, he bought a Pioneer AVIC Z2 GPS unit and some other components from Circuit City last July for more $3,000 and decided to let their installers do the installation work for him -- apparently after he was told that it'd slide into his Honda Civic without any modifications. The problems then allegedly began when the installer whipped out a heat gun, which was purportedly intended to be used to mold a mounting guide for the GPS unit but instead wound up melting one of the Civic's heating ducts. As if that wasn't enough, the installer apparently also used tape to hold the GPS unit in place, installed the antennae on the inside of the car instead of the outside, and used a glue gun to install the speakers instead of bolting them in place. All told, that apparently not only resulted in over $12,000 worth of damages but, according to the estimate from a Honda dealership, left the car "unsafe to drive." For its part, Circuit City apparently did eventually remove the equipment and refunded the full $3,000+, but VTECnical is now left dealing with Circuity City's third party insurance company to recover the rest of the damages.

Dancehall artist Lady Shelly seems to be having a covert battle with some of reggaes top producers for what she calls misleading actions and promises. The artist relocated to Jamaica from Quebec in early 2007 after meeting with a producer who agreed that he would do some recording with her if she was residing on the island.

Lady_Shelly.jpgShelly said that the promise was not kept. Instead,  the producer stringed her along by continuously arranging meetings that were not productive on any level. In an effort to make the best of a bad situation she immediately connected with other producers who all initially showed interest in her musical talents, but once a track was recorded, they delayed mixing and releasing it. She said that at first she doubted herself thinking that she just did not stack up to other artists and maybe that is why they are refusing to release her music. But after having a certified gold album in Canada and several number one songs in Europe she said there has to be more to it.

Lady Shelly recalls a conversation with promoter, Worrell King, who warned her that something like this would happen. Prior to moving back home, she had an in depth conversation with King who told her that  some producers will insinuate that she have sexual intercourse with them and if she doesnt show an interest, they may decline working with her. The artist also known as The Karamanti said that no producers openly asked her to have sex but based on their actions, they did not have to.

Feeling frustrated and anxious, Shelly reached out to Portmore producer, JJ Wizzle (who has recorded everyone from Determine to I-Wayne). Wizzle said he wanted to work with the artist from the first time he heard recordings she did while living in Quebec.

The two have started to work on Lady Shellys first dancehall album which will be entitled, breakdown-breakthrough. There is no official release date in place for the album; however, they are both committed to having it out before the end of the year. The first single from the album suggests that Shelly is taking a shot at all the producers that refused to work with her. The track is called talk up now and it basically highlights her writing and vocal skills, leaving one to question why these producers refused to release her music in the first place.

Bounty Angers Gay Lobbyist

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1340 Just a few days ago 876radio.com told you that the Warlord Bounty Killer who is on a European tour with members of the Alliance, had a sold out concert in the United Kingdom, but not before coming under some immense pressure from members of the British gay community for his anti-gay lyrics. The tour which spans most of the predominant colonies of Europe including France, Holland, Germany, Belgium and Italy has been enjoying some amount of success.

However, the gay lobbyist groups in Germany are giving the ghetto gladiator a hard time, as some of his shows were canceled in the German state of Cologne even though he allegedly agreed not to perform any anti-gay lyrics.

Cologne which is known for it's large homosexual community is doing everything in their powers to try and hamper the Alliance tour. Regardless the warlord has prevailed in Munich on the 28th of March which saw a packed house all vibing to the sold out concert.

Apparently this latest achievement by the Warlord has done nothing but angered Volker Beck the leader of the gay lobbyist group in Germany and Bounty Killers upcoming show on the 9th of April in Kesselhaus Berlin has been cancelled.

The mayor of Berlin, Mr. Klaus Wowereit who is a proud homosexual and a major thrust behind the cancelation of the Warlord's tour dates was quoted as saying I am gay and it is good that way.

No official word on how the killer is dealing with these turn of events, however 876radio.com would just like to take this opportunity to wish him all the best on his upcoming show dates.

BABYLON CRACKS DOWN ON WEED IN LONDON
The UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown ah go tighten the law on cannabis. Mi read online say Downing Street mek it clear that the Prime Minister is determined to upgrade cannabis from a class C to a class B substance with a maximum jail sentence of five years for possession. Yu hear dat? Five years fi weed. Although cannabis use remains a criminal offence, police have in practice tended to confiscate the drug and issue a caution rather than prosecute the users. Memba a few years ago, the drug was downgraded from class B to class C by David Blunkett, when he was Home Secretary, in January 2004 in a move to enable police to concentrate on tackling hard drugs such as heroin and cocaine. But that ah go change now.

Inna the UK, drug users and alcoholics can claim incapacity benefits, and now more than 100,000 addicts ah claim a maximum of Ł87.50 per week, totaling  about Ł400m a year. Dancehall people, when yu go foreign fi perform, mi a beg yu careful how yu smoke the weed, zeen.

Crystal from Washington Gardens did look good, and the girl who did get box up did look hot. Sorry say Lena, never got a chance to unveil THE OUTFIT of the night because she was too busy. Long live reggae/dancehall

'Some performers continue to propagate, through their live performances, violent and antisocial lyrics. Red Stripe will not be party to this, and thus we have taken the very difficult decision of withdrawing sponsorship from live music events.'

MILLER... gay activists will in no way influence Jamaicans to change their views

This is a quote from what appeared to be one of those cautious, oh-so-difficult-to-write, say-it-without-saying-it kind of press releases, sent to the media on Friday by beer company Red Stripe. The bottom line is that the company has divorced its brands Red Stripe and Guinness from dancehall events, or make that entertainment events. So Mr Laing (Supreme Promotions, organisers of Sting) and Mr Gourzong (Sumfest) will have to look elsewhere for funding of these important music events. Anyway, remember when Dragon, not Guinness, was the stout of choice? All we can say is: Long Live Reggae/Dancehall - with or without corporate sponsorship.

Gay activists and the Jamaican position

Saw an interesting article on the Internet recently dated February 18, written by a Timothy Kinkaid stating that the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC), a gay-welcoming denomination, has started a protest against the Jamaican government's inability - or unwillingness - to crack down on anti-gay violence. It says the Rev Nancy Wilson, MCC's leader, and a contingent of religious leaders from the MCC's Sunshine Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale met with Jamaican Consulate General Richard Allicock and three top staff members in the consulate's office in downtown Miami. It quoted Wilson as saying, "We're engaged in a long-term discussion and were not going to stop until gays and lesbians are protected in Jamaica."

The article continued, "One might suppose that a call for the cessation of violence was a campaign which all Christians could support. One would be wrong. Not only were MCC's requests reviled in the Jamaican media, but Jamaica's Christian community did not take well to being told that they ought not murder gays.

The Rev Dr Merrick 'Al' Miller, pastor of the Fellowship Tabernacle in St Andrew, said that Jamaicans generally deem homosexuality wrong. He said the demands of gay activists who are attempting to force their beliefs on society will in no way influence Jamaicans to change their views."
Need we say more?

Could an actual wedding finally be on the horizon? Just one day after reports surfaced that Jay-Z and longtime girlfriend Beyonce took out a marriage license on April Fool's Day, People Magazine is now reporting that Jay hosted his bachelor party last night in Toronto, Canada. The Hip Hop living legend had a private bash at downtown hot spot Lobby, where he was surrounded by male friends and a harem of beautiful women.

"It looked like a bachelor party because soon the doors closed to all but the immediate guests," a source at the party told People. "Jay-Z was laughing and happy and talking to everyone around him. It was amazing how many girls were flirting with him, but he was just being nice to everyone."

Perezhilton.com reports that Jay and Beyonce are schedule to marry tomorrow, April 4th.

Is this all an elaborate hoax? An extension of an April Fool's joke? Or will two of the largest figures in Hip Hop/ R&B soon tie the knot? DX will keep you updated as the story unfolds.

Ludacris.gif Ludacris has decided to reach back with a new website, catering to the needs of unsigned artists and producers from all musical genres. Luda's Disturbing Tha Peace Entertainment has joined forces with MegaMobile TV, LLC, a multimedia company, to create WeMix.com, a music community and user-generated record label that allows unsigned singers, rappers, songwriters, producers and musicians of all types to get discovered.

The site will features online tools that will allow users to create music and digitally collaborate with other artists, even Ludacris himself.

WeMix, which will officially launch next month, has already attracted over 20,000 aspiring artists while the site is in preview mode.

"There's so much talent that never sees the light of day because of the traditional way we discover artists; I felt it was time to take music back where it belongs - in the streets and with the people," Ludacris said via statement.

"It doesn't matter what type of music you're into, at WeMix.com it's an open playing field," he continued. "We want to hear everything that's out there and let the people guide us in deciding which new artists get their shot to collaborate with stars and record a song. Even if you can't sing or play an instrument, WeMix.com gives you the chance to make music and influence decisions through voting and reviews. It truly is the people's record company."

Artists will also have the opportunity to sell their music directly to consumers, connecting them with their potential fans. The site also has other arms of operation in the works including an online reality TV show and merchandise sales.
To some she may seem an oddity, but to one Indian couple their newborn daughter is simply a God reincarnated.

Their as yet un-named four-day-old baby girl was born with two faces, two mouths and four eyes in the rural Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, 50km north east of New Delhi.

Her parents, Vinod and Susham Singh from a village called Sani, said their little girl was "a gift from God".

Excited villagers claim she is the reincarnation of the Indian God Ganesha and celebrated her arrival with clapping, cheering and offerings of gifts and money.

Doctors who delivered the baby said she appeared to be in good health, but said further tests will need to be carried out to determine any long-term health problems she may have.

A bearded man who was born a woman says he is five months pregnant.

Thomas Beatie, who has had partial sex change surgery, posed for this extraordinary photograph to announce that he is an expectant father.

Mr Beatie, who has a wife, Nancy, is legally classified a man after having surgery to remove his breasts and testosterone treatment.

Thomas Beatie was born a woman but is now married to one. This image, published in an American magazine, allegedly shows his pregnant tummy and breast removal scars

He was apparently able to conceive because he did not have reconstructive surgery to the lower half of his body, choosing to keep the female reproductive organs he was born with.

He is said to be expecting a daughter.

News of the pregnancy caused a sensation in the U.S. yesterday after Mr Beatie detailed his struggle to become a pregnant husband in a magazine aimed at lesbian, gay and transgender readers.

"How does it feel to be a pregnant man? Incredible," he wrote in The Advocate.

"Despite the fact that my belly is growing with a new life inside me, I am stable and confident being the man that I am.

Arnold Schwarzanegger played a fertility scientist who fell pregnant in the 1994 film Junior

"To Nancy, I am her husband carrying our child," he added, explaining that his wife is unable to conceive because of a hysterectomy 20 years ago.

"I will be my daughter's father and Nancy will be her mother. We will be a family."

Mr Beatie, who said the baby was due on July 3, said doctors, friends and family have all opposed his plans to start a family.

He claimed to have artificially inseminated himself at home with sperm sent from a sperm bank.

He said his first attempt resulted in an ectopic pregnancy with triplets.

They had to be aborted, he said, and he lost his right fallopian tube.

"When my brother found out about my loss, he said, 'It's a good thing that happened. Who knows what kind of monsters they would have been'," Mr Beatie wrote.

While medical experts accept the pregnancy is possible, some neighbours and sceptics claimed the story could be a sham.

"Quite frankly, I think it's a hoax," said Ron Schlieper, who lives close to the Beaties in Bend, Oregon.

"I saw him a few days ago and he didn't look like that."

Another resident, Josh Love, added: "I couldn't say that he looks pregnant. I can stick my stomach out and almost make it look like that. I think it's kind of bizarre. I don't know if I believe it or not."

Cynics also pointed to the possibility the story could be a publicity stunt for the T-shirt printing company run by the Beaties, called Define Normal.

Birth control poster from 1970 urging men to take a responsible attitude towards contraception

Before his sex change, Mr Beatie was known as Tracy LaGondino and lived in Hawaii, where she campaigned for the right of gay couples to adopt children.

Friends in Hawaii said she had a partner, Nancy Roberts, and decided on a sex change because the island's laws did not allow same-sex marriage.

Although neither Mr Beatie nor his wife, whose ages are not known, were available for comment yesterday, The Advocate magazine insisted the pregnancy had been confirmed by his doctor.

A stunning image of a pregnant man was used in Britain in the famous Saatchi & Saatchi contraception advertising campaign in the 1970s.

A portrait of a doleful man with a baby bump was captioned: "Would you be more careful if it was you that got pregnant?"

And in the 1994 Hollywood movie Junior, Arnold Schwarzenegger, now Governor of California, played a man six months pregnant with a baby girl.

While there are not believed to be any previous recorded cases of such a pregnancy, experts said it was perfectly possible.

"A transgender man can be pregnant because he has the same organs as a woman," said Dr Lisa Masterson, an obstetrician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Beverly Hills.

She added: "It really is important that he doesn't take any testosterone early on in the pregnancy and later on. That can cause male-type characteristics in the female baby."

Usually, men who started out as women use testosterone to look more masculine.

But many choose not to have radical-reconstructive surgery because it can be expensive and offer imperfect results.

Margaret Someville, of the McGill Centre for Medicine, Ethics and Law in Montreal, Canada, said: "It's a very touchy thing, this deconstruction of our biological reality.

"Where I would do a reversal on this is to say, 'You've artificially made yourself a man. You're not a man, you're a woman and you're having a baby and you're actually having your own baby'."

Mr Beatie accepted he was heading into uncharted waters.

"Our situation sparks legal, political and social unknowns," he wrote.

But he added: "Wanting to have a biological child is neither a male nor female desire, but a human desire."

He claimed he had been with his wife for ten years but only decided to start trying for a baby after moving from Hawaii to Oregon two years ago.

Denise Lester, of Oury Clark solicitors, specialists in family law, said such a case was an "unprecedented legal and ethical issue in the UK".

She said Mr Beatie would be legally classed as both the mother and father of his child in Britain, regardless of whether he and his wife chose to adopt traditional gender roles.

Daddy, Dont Touch Me

Contrary to popular belief that the rural cane beltway is the main area where the crimes of incest occur, police statistics actually indicate that the parish of St. Catherine has the dubious honour of having the lions share of incest cases in Jamaica.

The cane beltway includes St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland and rural areas of Clarendon.
Since the year 2000, there have been 45 cases of incest reported in the parish of St. Catherine, a whopping 17 per cent of the 262 of the total cases reported for the entire island between the year 2000 and September 2007.
DE2_incest.jpg
The St. Catherine courts are choked with cases of a sexual nature, including rape, carnal abuse and incest.
There was an unusual one reported in St. Catherine of mother-son incest last year when a 15-year-old schoolboy pleaded guilty to having sexual intercourse with his mentally-ill 44-year-old mother. He was remanded to a place of safety. The boys father was charged with aiding and abetting the offence, and was offered $80,000 bail with surety. The boy reportedly admitted that he had sex with his mother in the one-room shack he shared with three siblings, at least six times, opting to use a condom once.

The boy was charged with incest and defilement of a female imbecile, while his father was slapped with charges of aiding and abetting carnal abuse and aiding and abetting the defilement of a female imbecile.
St. James was second with a total of 31 cases, while Westmoreland had 29 such cases and St. Andrew had 27 reported cases of incest. Portland had the fewest cases in the last seven years with only five reported.
The parish of St. Elizabeth had one of the lowest incidences of incest in the island. There was, however, a case last year in that parish which drew public attention and dominated talk radio when a St. Elizabeth farmer was arrested after his four-month-old infant daughter was sexually molested. The 46-year-old farmer was charged with two counts of indecent assault, after eluding the police for a few days.

Investigating officers at the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) said that the mother of the child suspected that the child was being molested from February, when she was only two months of age.
In 1990, there were only six reported cases of incest, and five arrests made. The numbers have increased dramatically since then, reaching a high of 61 reported cases in 1996, with 21 arrests. Last year, there were 40 reported cases islandwide.

Experts feel that the crime is under-reported and that the stigma attached to the practice had led many to believe that it only happens in poor and rural communities. This is a misconception.
Many persons tend to associate incest with people downtown, but this is a misconception, said one psychologist. It could be your minister of religion, your next-door neighbour, the father of your childs prep school friend seemingly ordinary people like you and me.
I find a lot of the cases are in the middle-class, and it happens across all sectors of society.

WHAT IS INCEST?Incest is more about power and less about sex, say the experts.  Its about how a man can exert total control over someone else, playing upon her needs and wants, threatening to withhold favours from a tender age right up to adulthood, said one counselor.  Strictly defined, incest is sexual interaction between close relatives: fratrilagnia brother; matrincest mother; patrolagnia father and sororilagnia sister.

But these definitions are too narrow for some people. The psychological definition covers any overtly sexual contact between people who are either closely related or see themselves as such, one psychologist told XtraNews.
A broader definition of incest is uncles who push their tongues down their nieces throats, grandfathers who fondle their granddaughters breasts, step-parents, step-siblings and even adults who are common-law, once they have assumed a parent role. If a childs boundaries and trust have been violated by anything inappropriate, she continued.

According to experts, father-daughter incest is most common. The interaction usually begins as early as infancy with oral-genital relations, graduating into more hardcore relations and eventually, penetration.
The Amnesty International report for 2007 stated that sexual violence continued throughout the country, resulting in severe health risks for women and girls. Sexual hara**ment and assault by strangers, friends, family, acquaintances and lovers was widespread but the authorities failed adequately to investigate and punish the perpetrators. Rates of HIV infection among women and girls continued to rise and people living with HIV faced systematic discrimination.

HOW IT AFFECTS THE CHILDThe child usually remains silent about the act, because she is too young to know that such behaviour is prohibited, or because shes afraid of the consequences if she tells anyone about it. Some fathers brainwash their daughters into believing that this is the way to express their love for them. The oldest daughter is usually the target, but others may be abused concurrently, or in sequence, as they grow older.  Incest often leaves the young child emotionally scarred for life, say psychologists. She is likely to enter into abusive relationships, where the man is the undisputed head; become sexually promiscuous; have an impaired sexual self-esteem resulting in sexual difficulties in relationships; and memories of sexual abuse can lead to universal feelings of depression.  Psychologists note that the cycle of victimisation and abuse continues far into adulthood, as the woman accepts extreme cases of domestic abuse. She grows embittered and continues to seek male attention in an effort to regain her lost identity.

WHAT THE LAW SAYSUnder the Incest (Punishment) Act 2 (1), any male person who has carnal knowledge of a female person, who is to his knowledge his grand-daughter, daughter, sister or mother, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and on conviction thereof before a Circuit Court shall be liable to imprisonment with hard labour for any term not exceeding five years. If it is proven that the female is under 12, imprisonment, a term not exceeding 10 years at hard labour, will apply.

Many stakeholders believe that the law is woefully inadequate. Discussions aimed at reforming the Offences Against the Person Act and the Incest Punishment Act, ongoing since 1995 and 2000, respectively, re-started in a parliamentarian joint committee recently. Proposed amendments to both acts would offer greater legal protection to women and children, including making marital rape a criminal offence and increasing punishments for perpetrators of sexual violence. The Centre for Investigations of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse was improved and given further powers to investigate these crimes.

Oh baby

Dear Pastor,

I am 22 years old living with my babyfather and our two-year- old son. I found out that I am pregnant and I want to do an abortion, but my spouse doesn't believe in that. I just feel like I am not ready for another child. It's too soon. I went on an interview for college September coming. I don't believe in it either, but it's the same thing happened with my first child and I can't afford for the same thing to reach me again. In fact, I just started working.

The doctor told me I was six to eight weeks. I was shocked to death. We were using condom all along until he decided we should stop since we are living together and were not sleeping with anyone else. AIDS is one thing, but it seems we forget about babies. He says either I carry the pregnancy or we separate. But I am willing to take that risk because I have my future to think about and this is going to put a pause right now, again. Yes, I would love to have another child, but not right now. I missed out a lot on my education while I was pregnant before and besides I just want what is best for us. I just wish he would understand.

Please, pastor, help me.

E., Portland, Jamaica

Dear E.,

I cannot encourage you to have an abortion. It is unfortunate that you and this man stopped using the condom. Anything can happen when people don't use contraceptives. Have your baby. You will eventually get to college, but you will get there at a later date.

Beenie Man will know the result of his paternity test today if he chooses to visit his lawyers to pick up the DNA test results.

Beenie Man's publicist Ray Alexander told One876Entertainment.com that Angel had been incorrect in her most recent press release when she suggested that Beenie Man already knew the outcome of the paternity test.

"Beenie's lawyers called Blue at 4 p.m. on Tuesday to tell him that the results were back and that Beenie could pick them up on Wednesday morning," he said.

"He should be going in on Wednesday to pick up the results from the lawyer's office."

D'Angel's press release had stated that "...DNA Test was done and at the time of his interview on the programme Moses Davis a.k.a. Beenie Man was fully aware of the outcome of the testing."

Man shoots himself, blames another

Dwayne Mcleod, Staff Reporter

A 24-year-old man who reportedly shot himself while playing with his home-made gun, but told the police he was shot by someone else, was given a suspended sentence when he appeared in the Western Regional Gun Court on Wednesday.

The courts heard that Alrick Barrett of Cacoon in Hanover, turned up at hospital on March 15 with a gunshot wound to his leg.

He then reportedly told the police that he was shot by a man he said was known as 'Kew', with whom he claimed he had an altercation.

The courts further heard that as the police continued their investigations it was found that he had shot himself with his own home-made gun.

The illegal weapon was reportedly found and Barrett was subsequently charged with illegal possession of a firearm and creating public mischief.

He was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for 18 months.

Something fishy

Something fishy

Dear Pastor

I've been reading your column since I was 14. I'm having a problem but I decided to write to you as I don't trust anyone in fear of scandal. I started seeing a guy about two years ago and in the first instance everything was great. I lived alone and he used to visit me regularly. We would share everything, but after about a year into the relationship, things took a turn for the worst. In the Christmas, this man borrowed my phone to make a call and he deleted the number. A few days later, a woman called from overseas saying she was his girlfriend. When I asked him about it, he told me not to bother with the lies. Many more calls from different women followed.

Pastor, I am a very educated woman and I know about most things. I had sex with him one night (I always use protection as I don't trust him and I do so in the light) and when he ejaculated, I smelled a very fishy scent and his discharge looked pale. I looked closer and I saw that the condom had burst. I was really fretting so I went to the doctor a week later only to find out I had Trichomonisis and I got treatment. When I told him he needed to go and see the doctor because his discharge didn't look healthy, he started cursing and swearing and wanted to put the blame on me. He has done so many bad things to me. Now I'm migrating and I'm just going to leave and not tell him. I do not care any more.

Please, Pastor, give me your fatherly advice. Thank you.

N.C., St Catherine, Jamaica.

Dear N.C.,

I am glad you went to the doctor for treatment. And I hope that this man would have by now gone to see a doctor too. It would have been better if he had admitted that he had unprotected sex with another woman and asked your forgiveness.

You didn't say what other bad things he has done to you. Nevertheless, if you know that you do not love this man anymore and you cannot trust him, you should end the relationship with him without delay.

A Jamaican-born, bogus forensic psychologist was sentenced to five years in jail in United Kingdom, a foreign media report states.

According to BBC Caribbean news report, Gene Morrison, 48, allegedly gave testimony in 700 cases over a 26-year period across the UK.

In the report, Judge Jeffrey Lewis described Morrison as a "inveterate and compulsive liar".

He was convicted on 20 different charges including obtaining a money transfer by deception, obtaining property by deception, perverting the course of justice and perjury.

He was found innocent of one count of obtaining a money transfer by deception.

PHD for sale

It was alleged that Morrison was paid at least $250,000 pounds (J$35 million) in taxpayer's money for giving 'expert' advice. However, he had actually purchased his qualifications from a fake university. " (It) looked easier than going to a real university," BBC reported the fake doctor as saying.

The news report further stated that Morrison's firm, Hyde-based Criminal and Forensic Investigations Bureau (CFIB) had been hired to give evidence in court. In fact, many of his reports were cut and pasted from the Internet.

Morrison allegedly admitted that he began working as a forensic investigator in 1977 after buying certificates by post for a BSc in forensic science, a master's with excellence in forensic investigation and a doctorate in criminology.

During his four-week trial, Morrison reportedly insisted on being called Dr Morrison.

In a matter of minutes, Orett Barrington Williams went from being a typical 16-year-old high school student from Kingston to a hero who saved the lives of two complete strangers.

On a routine Sunday evening, while walking behind the old sardine factory on Marcus Garvey Drive, Orett noticed seven boys swimming in the sea behind the abandoned building. It's an area that is popular among swimmers, especially young boys.

On that day, there were only the seven boys and a fisherman.

Orett noticed a ship nearby and recalled that it passed surprisingly close to where the boys were swimming. He said the ship created a giant wave that lifted the boys with it.

"I see when the wave lift them up and I said to the fisherman that dem drowning and the fisherman said lef' dem mek dem drown." The fisherman, he said, was peeved at the fact that the boys ignored his warnings about the dangers of swimming in the area. The fisherman just rode off on his bicycle.

Orett jumped into sea

Not having the heart to stand there and watch the boys drown, Orett jumped in to save the boys. By then, four of the boys had reached shore, shouting for help for their three friends who were left behind.

"The four of dem coulda swim better so dem leave the friends. I just jumped in the water and went to rescue dem," he continued, "I went to the one who bawl out for help first and bring him to shore and then I went for the second one. By the time I was about to go for the third one, he was way out."

Orett said he tried to go for the third boy, but he realised that he could not make it, because it would be very dangerous for him.

Feeling proud that he saved two lives is still a bittersweet moment for the Tivoli Gardens High School student because he was unable to save the third boy, who eventually drowned.

Orett, however, thinks it was probably the best decision to stay ashore in order to save his life. "If I did go for him maybe I would drown too, because him would want (to) save him life and then could drown me while doing it."

An eye-opener

That incident is an eye-opener for Orett who used to enjoy swimming at that location. "Every day me use to go swim ... but now is jus beach me going swim with my family."

His family, he says, has become extremely serious warning him against reckless swimming. "Dem tell me stop going there, I go one place already and see somebody nearly drown and now I go there so and somebody drown. They say it could be a sign that if I go back go swim it's going to be my time."

Five days since the incident, Orett said he had trouble sleeping, because of the memory of the boy drowning. "Is like a remember when him go up the last time and then go down and that was the last time I see him," he said shaking his head.

Senior Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, head of the Kingston West Police Division, said the area behind the old factory is a common spot for children to swim.

He also said children often disobeyed police warnings not to swim at the location. The senior superintendent is urging parents to monitor their children properly and to warn them against this practice. "It is very dangerous; there are crocodiles in the water, and not only that, the water is not clean as sewage is being let out in the water," he said.

Portmore's most wanted man, Wilberforce Mattherson, also known as 'Crackers', and listed as one of the top-10 most wanted men in the country, was held in an operation in Tawes Pen, Spanish Town, yesterday morning.

Mattherson, who was wanted by the Portmore police for more than a dozen murders, including the killing of a senior citizen, and several shootings involving the police, was held in a pre-dawn raid.

He is allegedly a member of the Road Man gang, which operates out of Gregory Park and is allegedly headed by Jomo Hamitt, who is now behind bars on multiple charges.

Matteherson, police sources claim, is a major operative of the gang, which virtually took over areas of Portmore, dating back to 2005.

The gang became a major target of the Portmore CIB and has been virtually dismantled with over 10 of its members before the court on charges of murder and shooting with intent.

Several others have been cut down by the police over the past two years.

Another member of the Road Man gang, Christopher 'Chicken Back' Jarrett, surrendered to police 24 hours after making the country's top-10 list during a massive manhunt by the Portmore CIB.

Two other members of the gang were killed in a shoot-out with the police one day after killing a woman, who was labelled an informer. Her sister was also critically wounded during the attack on Cottage Drive in Gregory Park.

Residents of the 'Gulf' area of Gregory Park, were visibly relieved upon news of 'Crackers'' capture.

"Me know she dem would a hold him. Everyday mi see Missa Jason down yah a hunt him," said an elderly woman.

The detention of Crackers leaves Booby Myers, otherwise called 'Friend Friend' of Myers Town, Newland, as the new 'most wanted' in Portmore.

The St Catherine South police said Myers is wanted for several shootings and murders committed in the area.

D'Angel will now have to stretch her time and resources after receiving a scholarship from the Caribbean Institute of Business to pursue a degree in business administration.

She is rather happy about receiving the scholarship that was given to her as a birthday present earlier this week.

"I've been in business management for some years now. I can broaden my horizons. Learning never stops. I really appreciate this," said D'Angel who is the owner of a store in Kingston.

Principal for the institute, Dr Patrick Welch, says she was chosen for the scholarship because of her drive to succeed.

"We are trying to create economic growth and development across the country. D'Angel is a strong young woman who believes there is always a way. We have given her this scholarship because having a qualification is important," Welch told The STAR.

Her course will last for two years and has an estimated value of $370,000. It will begin on April 7 and can either be done for three hour on two weekdays or six hours on Sundays. She will be trained in business psychology and Communication, management, accounting and marketing.

The Most Homophobic Place on Earth?

Brian wears sunglasses to hide his gray and lifeless left eyedamaged, he says, by kicks and blows with a board from Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton. Brian, 44, is gay, and Banton, 32, is an avowed homophobe whose song Boom Bye-Bye decrees that gays "haffi dead" ("have to die"). In June 2004, Brian claims, Banton and some toughs burst into his house near Banton's Kingston recording studio and viciously beat him and five other men. After complaints from international human-rights groups, Banton was finally charged last fall, but in January a judge dismissed the case for lack of evidence. It was a bitter decision for Brian, who lost his landscaping business after the attack and is fearful of giving his last name. "I still go to church," he says as he sips a Red Stripe beer. "Every Sunday I ask why this happened to me."

Though familiar to Americans primarily as a laid-back beach destination, Jamaica is hardly idyllic. The country has the world's highest murder rate. And its rampant violence against gays and lesbians has prompted human-rights groups to confer another ugly distinction: the most homophobic place on earth.

In the past two years, two of the island's most prominent gay activists, Brian Williamson and Steve Harvey, have been murdered and a crowd even celebrated over Williamson's mutilated body. Perhaps most disturbing, many anti-gay assaults have been acts of mob violence. In 2004, a teen was almost killed when his father learned his son was gay and invited a group to lynch the boy at his school. Months later, witnesses say, police egged on another mob that stabbed and stoned a gay man to death in Montego Bay. And this year a Kingston man, Nokia Cowan, drowned after a crowd shouting "batty boy" (a Jamaican epithet for homosexual) chased him off a pier. "Jamaica is the worst any of us has ever seen," says Rebecca Schleifer of the U.S.-based Human Rights Watch and author of a scathing report on the island's anti-gay hostility.

Jamaica may be the worst offender, but much of the rest of the Caribbean also has a long history of intense homophobia. Islands like Barbados still criminalize homosexuality, and some seem to be following Jamaica's more violent example. Last week two CBS News producers, both Americans, were beaten with tire irons by a gay-bashing mob while vacationing on St. Martin. One of the victims, Ryan Smith, was airbused to a Miami hospital, where he remains in intensive care with a fractured skull.

Gay-rights activists attribute the scourge of homophobia in Jamaica largely to the country's increasingly thuggish reggae music scene. Few epitomize the melding of reggae and gangsta cultures more than Banton, who is one of the nation's most popular dance-hall singers. Born Mark Myrie, he grew up the youngest of 15 children in Kingston's Salt Lane the sort of slum dominated by ultraconservative Christian churches and intensely anti-gay Rastafarians. Banton parlayed homophobia into a ticket out of Salt Lane. One of his first hits, 1992's Boom Bye-Bye, boasts of shooting gays with Uzis and burning their skin with acid "like an old tire wheel."

Banton's lyrics are hardly unique among reggae artists today. Another popular artist, Elephant Man (O'Neil Bryant, 29) declares in one song, "When you hear a lesbian getting raped/ It's not our fault ... Two women in bed/ That's two Sodomites who should be dead." Another, Bounty Killer (Rodney Price, 33), urges listeners to burn "Mister Fagoty" and make him "wince in agony."

Reggae's anti-gay rhetoric has seeped into the country's politics. Jamaica's major political parties have passed some of the world's toughest antisodomy laws and regularly incorporate homophobic music in their campaigns. "The view that results," says Jamaican human-rights lawyer Philip Dayle, "is that a homosexual isn't just an undesirable but an unapprehended criminal."

Meanwhile, gay-rights activists say Jamaican police often overlook evidence in anti-gay hate crimes, such as the alleged assault by Banton in 2004. His accuser, Brian, says cops excised Banton's role from their reports of the 2004 beating. A police spokesman denies that. But in dismissing the case earlier this year, the judge in the trial warned Banton to avoid violence and "seek legal recourses" when he has complaints against gays in the future. Banton refused TIME's request for an interview. His manager, Donovan Germain, insists that the singer is innocent and that "Buju's lyrics are part of a metaphorical tradition. They're not a literal call to kill gay men."

There are some signs that Jamaica may soften its approach. Jamaica's ruling party last month elected the nation's first female Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller, a progressive who gay-rights supporters hope will eventually move to decriminalize homosexuality. She hasn't yet said that, but Jamaica's beleaguered gays say they at least have reason now to hope their government will change its tune before their reggae stars ever do.

ORLANDO, Florida (Reuters) - The FBI arrested a Jamaican man on Tuesday on charges he tried to board a plane at Orlando International Airport with pipe b**** components and instructions in his checked luggage.

The agency identified the man as Kevin Brown, 32, who was ticketed for Air Jamaica flight 80 from Orlando to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

In a search of Brown's luggage, agents found two galvanized pipes, end caps, two small containers of air gun pellets, batteries, two containers of an unknown liquid, a laptop computer and b****-making literature, according to a statement from Steven Ibison, special agent in charge of the FBI's Tampa division.

Initial record checks indicated Brown was in the United States legally, the FBI said. Brown is scheduled to make a first appearance on Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Orlando on charges of carrying a weapon or explosive on an aircraft.

The Transportation Security Administration said a "behavior detection officer" keeping watch for suspicious activity singled out Brown for closer inspection.

Airport spokeswoman Carolyn Fennell said Brown was detained while preparing to check his luggage for his flight.

His luggage was searched, he was taken into custody by Orlando Police and then turned over to the FBI, which announced the charges late on Tuesday.

Passengers were evacuated from a section of the airport terminal around the Air Jamaica, Air Canada and Air Frontier ticket counters and 11 flights were delayed, Fennell said.

A 39-year-old woman, who claimed she stole clothes because of the devil was sentenced to 30 days, imprison-ment at hard labour on Wednesday.

Coreen Denton, from Kingston, pleaded guilty to simple larceny when the matter was mentioned in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The court was told that the accused went to the Azan's Gift Centre in downtown Kingston were she stole items of clothing valued at $7,500. She was seen on tape putting the items, which consisted of baby and adult clothing, in her bag. However, when Denton passed the cashier and did not pay for the items, she was accosted by store personnel, who held her and called the police.

Denton, however, hardly had an explanation for her actions. "Your Honour, to tell you the truth, is just di devil 'cause I don't know why I do it ," she told the court.

When RM Glen Brown asked her who the children clothing was for, she said it was for a child she had adopted. Further questions by RM Brown about who has been caring for the child while she was in lock-up, revealed that she didn't know.

However, after further questioning, the court discovered that the 'child' was 30-year-old. RM Brown then sentenced her to jail time.

A spokeswoman said the 86-year-old was taken to the hospital for "assessment and treatment for a chest infection." She said she had no information about his condition.

"His royal highness's program of engagements for the weekend have been canceled," the spokeswoman said on condition of anonymity in line with palace policy.

The British Broadcasting Corp. reported that he was admitted Thursday night. Officials at King Edward VII's Hospital in central London said they would not comment on Philip's condition.

Philip has been married to the queen since 1947. A member of the Greek royal family, he renounced his royal title when he became a naturalized British subject in 1947.

He joined the Royal Navy in 1939, and saw active service throughout World War II, rising to the rank of Lieutenant. After Elizabeth became queen, Philip gave up his naval career to support her.

He has no constitutional role other than as one of the queen's privy counsellors.

Philip is a great-great-grandchild of Queen Victoria. His paternal grandfather, King George I of Greece, was Queen Alexandra's brother.

Special Constable Jason Thompson, 27, was arrested and charged yesterday with manslaughter arising from the fatal shooting of 11-month-old Broderick 'Pharell' Wright on March Pen Road, Spanish Town, St Catherine on March 6.

He appeared in the Home Circuit Court yesterday and was offered bail in the sum of $1.5 million with one to three sureties. He is to return to court on May 9.

Director of Public Prosecutions, Paula Llewellyn ruled this week that the policeman must be charged with manslaughter and the trial must take place in Kingston.

Attorney-at-law Peter Champagnie in making the bail application before Supreme Court Judge Kay Beckford, emphasised that the policeman was acting in self defence. He said his client was contending that shots were being fired from the motor car.

The judge ordered the policeman to report to the Commanding Officer at Mobile Reserve, Harman Barracks, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. He is to surrender his travel documents to the police.

The Crown is alleging that on March 6, a police team chased a taxi operator who allegedly committed a traffic offence. During the chase shots were fired and a bullet struck the toddler who was in his yard.

Cocoa Tea Records Reggae Song for Obama

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) Barack Obama has won what could be an influential endorsement among reggae fans: Jamaican singer Cocoa Tea, who's backing the Illinois senator in a new tune.

"This is not about class nor color, race nor creed," the veteran dancehall crooner sings in a version posted on the video Web site Dailymotion. "It's about the changes, what the Americans need."

The song goes on to call Obama a "trendsetter" and urge Americans "to unite as one" behind him.

Cocoa Tea, whose real name is Calvin Scott, said Sunday that the tribute song "Barack Obama" will be released this week by New York's VP Records.

"The young people who are supporting him want change and that's what he represents," said the singer, whose laid-back lyrical style made him a local star in the 1980s.

He becomes the second major Caribbean musician to endorse Obama in song, joining Trinidadian calypso star Mighty Sparrow who recently recorded a track titled "Barack the Magnificent."
