One876Entertainmenthas been reliably informed that the Gully God, David Mavado Brooks is now free to satisfy his fans overseas.

Mavado3.jpgWe recently reported that his travel documents were taken by the court after his arrest a few weeks ago in connection to a shooting incident that happened last year.

Mavados lawyer Antoinette Haughton-Cardenas made a submission to the courts for her client to receive back his travel documents so he can fulfill his contracted dates. We understand that among the items submitted were his contracts, a letter from his manager, and schedule for shows overseas. Mavado now doesnt have to report to police station but his bail was increased from J$200,000 to J$500,000.

One876Entertainment has been receiving phone calls from fans in the United States asking the latest on Mavados case and if he will be able to fulfill his commitments. One person said she was worried about a show near her in upstate New York, she told one of our reporters that she didnt want to buy pre-sold tickets and then be disappointed if the artiste didnt turn up. We are happy to tell you that his first show will be in Hartford, Connecticut on Friday.

Movado Video Shoot Last Night3.jpg

Little X was warmer than his current New York base this week while in Jamaica to shoot the video for Mavado's latest single, "Last Night."

One of many hot singles from Mavado's debut album, "Gangsta for Life â the Symphony of David Brooks," "Last Night" had a video shoot shrouded in sentiment and heartfelt love.

Using the Cassava Piece Gully Side where Mavado actually grew up for a location, the Little X headed video crew brought life to the vivid lyrics of "Last Night."

"We wanted the video to be as real as possible," said Mavado. "We... even filmed scenes in the actual house I was raised in to keep it as real as can be. We didn't bring in actors, we used Cubans and other people from the community in all the roles."

Movado Video Shoot Last Night1.jpg

Done in "marathon filming" fashion, the shoot lasted 16 hours. Prominent video director, Little X, who graciously provided his services for this low budget shoot for rates below his norm, was happy to participate in the project out of sheer love.

Besides being a huge fan of Mavado since his bursting on the scene; Little X says he was motivated to cutting his current New York University Cinematography classes to do the video shoot, because of his love for Jamaican culture.

"I have Trinidadian roots so I have a natural bond with the Caribbean," he explained. "I love Jamaica, and its biggest export â the music and culture... it was worth every moment! I figured missing film school to shoot a video wasn't so bad anyway!"

There are many unique features to the video like cameo appearances from fellow Alliance colleagues: Bounty Killer, Bling Dawg, Serani, Flex, Anarchy, Kibaki, Advance and Foota Hype. Also stepping out to show support to Mavado was Foota Hype's mother who steals the scene as a grieving mother.

In addition, the high-quality, revolutionary new âRed Cameraâ was used for the shoot that really resembled a movie set - with shoot-outs, crime scenes and bike stunts; giving an exciting backdrop to the song.

Little X had a non stop day, but a satisfying one. Mavado's manager, Julian Jones-Griffith said, "Even though it was a long day and night shoot, the atmosphere on set was great...We truly appreciate the love and effort X put into the project."

Windies At Last

Following the Test Match victory, the West Indies Cricket team has kept up its recent turn in fortunes by defeating Sri Lanka in the first ODI. Shivnarine Chanderpaul hit the winning runs (scoring the 10 runs required off the final 2 deliveries of the game). Chanderpaul made 62 runs off 63 balls, with good support from skipper Chris Gayle (52). The team is now in prime position to win the (I believe) 3-game series, and end its season with heads held high. Hopefully, this will be the start of a new and rejuvinated West Indies team, which will soon be able to defeat the likes of Australia and India, even New Zealand.

A male student of Titchfield High, in Portland, was yesterday suspended for 10 days for allegedly hitting a male teacher with a chair, during an incident on Tuesday at the school.

Four other male students, who were involved in another incident at that school on Tuesday, were taken in for questioning by members of the Island Special Constabulary Force for the alleged beating of an 11th grade student.

Emergency meeting

Acting principal of Titchfield, Richard Thompson, told The Gleaner the student was suspended following an emergency meeting held yesterday at the school.

He also said the incident had emotionally scarred not only students but teachers who were concerned about antisocial behaviour being displayed by students.

"We took the decision to have that student suspended with immediate effect," Thompson said. "Such behaviour or practice is of much concern among my staff, which from all indications is fearful and tentative. It is an unfortunate incident, especially when a student is spoken to by a teacher, and he or she reacts by throwing a chair at a teacher."

According to reports, a group of boys was spotted in an area at the school that is off limits to students, and a male teacher asked them to disperse. It is alleged that the students were reluctant to move and one of them threw a chair at the teacher, injuring one of his arms. He was taken to the nearby Port Antonio Hospital for treatment.

In the second incident, a student was beaten by a group of other students after they claimed his social background and practices were abnormal.

Several pastors outside and within the Corporate Area have raised the concern that greater access to lewd material because of cable television and the internet are key factors behind church members having sex before getting married.

The claim has come following a recent case in court in which a church brother was charged with manslaughter. The man was charged after the police began investigating claims that his church sister died after they had sex.

When contacted yesterday one pastor, Minister Blackman, from one of the Corporate Area's Pentecostal churches said the situation of members having sex before getting married (committing fornication) is one that he is confronted with "from time to time". He also noted that the practice has increased with today's easy access to cable television and the Internet.

"These are definitely factors that influence young people greatly. In addition to the music today, (in) days gone by we did not have them," he said. "As a result, the inflow of young people involved in the act is greater and it is due to these influences."

Another pastor from a church in the Central Village area echoed this point. The pastor, who did not wish to have his name or that of his church mentioned, said members who were more liberal in what they watch on the television or view on the Internet were the ones most prone to indulge in sex before marriage, despite professing Christianity.

Battle of wills

"The mind is where the battle is won or lost so you have to be selective in what you feed your mind on. If you feed it on that sort of thing (pornography) your mind will be programmed," the pastor said.

While he was unable to say how many church members have confessed to being involved in sex before marriage in recent times, the pastor observed that according to several persons who have backslidden from the church, fornication was the main factor that lured them from the pews.

A pastor from Portmore concurred with the previous two. In fact, he went further to say that he has seen at least two cases since the start of the year in which members who were involved in premarital sex had stopped coming to the church.

Names changed upon request.

Gunmen cause disorder downtown

A feud between men from Southside and Tel-Aviv in Central Kingston is said to be the cause of a brazen display of terror which started in a section of downtown Kingston, ended on Gold Street and reportedly left 12 persons, including a baby, nursing gunshot wounds.

Reports are that shortly after 4 p.m., gunmen went behind the Pearnel Charles Arcade and opened fire on several persons who were inside.

They then reportedly continued on to Church Street, where they fired shots wildly before heading to Gold Street in Central Kingston where they yet again sprayed bullets.

THE STAR learnt that men from Southside and Tel-Aviv are currently at odds as there is currently a move for both communities to operate under 'one order', a move which is not welcomed by many.

A new list of rules announced Thursday aims to prevent soldiers and Defense Ministry employees from revealing classified information on social networking sites.

The officials say some soldiers have uploaded pictures of themselves with classified equipment, inadvertently revealing sensitive information.

The rules allow soldiers to create pages on networking sites as long as they do not identify themselves as soldiers or reveal information about what they do.

They spoke on condition of anonymity because the rules have not been officially published.

Yendi Philipps

Miss Jamaica World 2007, Yendi Philipps, has been announced as the new host of the popular Digicel Rising Stars show.

When the STAR spoke with Yendi yesterday evening, she was delighted to be the new host saying, "I feel very good, fantastic. I was surprised that I got through but it's something I really wanted. I think it's excellent exposure and an excellent opportunity."

Although Yendi still has a few months remaining in her reign as Miss Jamaica, she has vowed to make time for the show after having been called in for casting. This will be Yendi's second time on live television after having done a brief stint on a live show four years ago.

Yendi was one of nine contenders for the coveted spot after the recent departure of long-time host Denise Hunt. Among the persons who were also looked at as possible hosts were Miss Jamaica 2006 winner, Sara Lawrence, and contestant Sanique Vacianna, TV personalities Renée Garel (Lady Renée ) and last year's host for the show's 'Chill Room', Kiki. Performers such as actress Sakina Deer, Guyanese singer Tamika Marshall and the sole male potential actor, Stephen McHew, were also screened.

Digicel's Rising Stars head of corporate affairs, Yvonne Wilks, told the STAR prior to the launch that Yendi was the clear champion at the end of the auditions. "When we reviewed the screening, she was by far the best. She had the most balanced response. It was unanimous she was the best for the programme. Nine people competed for the number-one programme and fair and square she came out on top," Wilks said.

Yendi Philipps rose to popularity in recent months when she won the coveted Miss Jamaica World title and placed in the top 15 at the Miss World finals. Known for her youthful exuberance and caring nature, Yendi will bring a fresh outlook to the popular talent competition.

Coming soon: superfast internet

April 10, 2008
Started By viper_3kj12 Comments
THE internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, the grid will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.

The latest spin-off from Cern, the particle physics centre that created the web, the grid could also provide the kind of power needed to transmit holographic images; allow instant online gaming with hundreds of thousands of players; and offer high-definition video telephony for the price of a local call.

David Britton, professor of physics at Glasgow University and a leading figure in the grid project, believes grid technologies could revolutionise society. With this kind of computing power, future generations will have the ability to collaborate and communicate in ways older people like me cannot even imagine, he said.

The power of the grid will become apparent this summer after what scientists at Cern have termed their red button day - the switching-on of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), the new particle accelerator built to probe the origin of the universe. The grid will be activated at the same time to capture the data it generates.

Cern, based near Geneva, started the grid computing project seven years ago when researchers realised the LHC would generate annual data equivalent to 56m CDs - enough to make a stack 40 miles high.

This meant that scientists at Cern - where Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the web in 1989 - would no longer be able to use his creation for fear of causing a global collapse.

This is because the internet has evolved by linking together a hotchpotch of cables and routing equipment, much of which was originally designed for telephone calls and therefore lacks the capacity for high-speed data transmission.

By contrast, the grid has been built with dedicated fibre optic cables and modern routing centres, meaning there are no outdated components to slow the deluge of data. The 55,000 servers already installed are expected to rise to 200,000 within the next two years.

Professor Tony Doyle, technical director of the grid project, said: We need so much processing power, there would even be an issue about getting enough electricity to run the computers if they were all at Cern. The only answer was a new network powerful enough to send the data instantly to research centres in other countries.

That network, in effect a parallel internet, is now built, using fibre optic cables that run from Cern to 11 centres in the United States, Canada, the Far East, Europe and around the world.

One terminates at the Rutherford Appleton laboratory at Harwell in Oxfordshire.

From each centre, further connections radiate out to a host of other research institutions using existing high-speed academic networks.

It means Britain alone has 8,000 servers on the grid system so that any student or academic will theoretically be able to hook up to the grid rather than the internet from this autumn.

Ian Bird, project leader for Cerns high-speed computing project, said grid technology could make the internet so fast that people would stop using desktop computers to store information and entrust it all to the internet.

It will lead to whats known as cloud computing, where people keep all their information online and access it from anywhere, he said.

Computers on the grid can also transmit data at lightning speed. This will allow researchers facing heavy processing tasks to call on the assistance of thousands of other computers around the world. The aim is to eliminate the dreaded frozen screen experienced by internet users who ask their machine to handle too much information.

The real goal of the grid is, however, to work with the LHC in tracking down natures most elusive particle, the Higgs boson. Predicted in theory but never yet found, the Higgs is supposed to be what gives matter mass.

The LHC has been designed to hunt out this particle - but even at optimum performance it will generate only a few thousand of the particles a year. Analysing the mountain of data will be such a large task that it will keep even the grids huge capacity busy for years to come.

Although the grid itself is unlikely to be directly available to domestic internet users, many telecoms providers and businesses are already introducing its pioneering technologies. One of the most potent is so-called dynamic switching, which creates a dedicated channel for internet users trying to download large volumes of data such as films. In theory this would give a standard desktop computer the ability to download a movie in five seconds rather than the current three hours or so.

Additionally, the grid is being made available to dozens of other academic researchers including astronomers and molecular biologists.

It has already been used to help design new drugs against malaria, the mosquito-borne disease that kills 1m people worldwide each year. Researchers used the grid to analyse 140m compounds - a task that would have taken a standard internet-linked PC 420 years.

Projects like the grid will bring huge changes in business and society as well as science, Doyle said.

Holographic video conferencing is not that far away. Online gaming could evolve to include many thousands of people, and social networking could become the main way we communicate.

The history of the internet shows you cannot predict its real impacts but we know they will be huge.

Is Jamaican radio personality/MC Nikki Z biased or merely inconsistent in her public pronouncements on the faux pas and criminal mis-steps of entertainers?

Nikki_Z3.jpgThat is what a number of local entertainment insiders have been asking in recent times as the controversial personality has been using her morning show as a platform to conduct a vocal pro-Mavado campaign, even as she publicly excoriates Portmore Empire deejay Deva Bratt who has been charged with carnal abuse in a case involving a 14 year-old schoolgirl.

When One876Entertainment.com contacted Nikki Z about the complaints she revealed, I am sorry if they feel that way but honestly speaking every media personnel has a bias at some level, this is true, I try my best to keep it on a median if any artist does wrong or not I inform the people.

One entertainment insider said, Mi no really have a problem with her stance on Deva Bratt but she is not consistent. Mi hear her programme last week and a pure Mavado she a play even though the man has just been charged with shooting with intent and illegal gun possession. A man is innocent until proven guilty, but I would like to know what ZIP FM is trying to say to the Jamaican public.

Nikki Z responded by saying, When you compare the issue of someone being charged for a rape, sexual assault or carnal abuse of a defenseless 14 year-old child and not just one but two separate counts to a charge of an shooting due to what they claim to be caused by grown adult men engaging in acts of ignorance and senseless violence to each other it leaves me puzzled.

A popular selector also called our offices yesterday to complain about an incident last week where her bias seemed to shine through like the sun breaking through clouds after a rainy day.

She came to Congress Fridays last week and someone must have asked her to big up Deva Bratt and she said she wasnt going to big up Deva Bratt because he is a child rapist. Mi no understand that because she de a Portmore, inna the man hometown ah talk dem tings de, yet still she de pon air ah big up Mavado who get charged with an equally serious charge, shooting with intent, and illegal gun possession, she no rate Portmore people, the Portmore-based selector reasoned.

I do not condone violence of any sort but i do not believe these arrests have anything in common other then they are both artists. Every time these little girls hear his music does anyone wonder how they feel? That is a wound with intent that will never heal. When Movado was arrested he went to the authorities, they did not have to find him. He went with the alleged motive of quelling some of the tension and violence that has been plaguing many communities including Cassava Piece. Whether at this point he is guilty or not that in itself is a commendable act. Nikki Z told One876Entertainment.com.

Pa. girl hit with game controller dies

YORK, Pa. --A 2-year-old girl died after being beaten with a video game controller by her mother's boyfriend, police said Tuesday. Darisabel Baez's mother overheard the beating Sunday but did nothing until she realized the girl was unconscious, police said.

The girl was pronounced dead late Monday at Hershey Medical Center, police Lt. Ron Camacho said.

Homicide was added to the list of charges against Harve L. Johnson on Tuesday; he was already in jail on counts including aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

The girl's mother, Neida E. Baez, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

It was clear from the bruises and other injuries on the little girl's body that Sunday was not the first time she had been abused, Dauphin County coroner Graham Hetrick told WGAL-TV. He said it was one of the worst cases of child abuse he has ever seen.

Baez, 19, called for an ambulance Sunday and said Johnson had brought the unconscious child to her, limp and wet from an attempt to revive her in a bathtub, a police affidavit said.

Johnson, 26, acknowledged beating the girl with a video game controller but did not say why, police said. Baez said Johnson had abused the girl in the past and that she heard the girl scream after Johnson beat her Sunday, according to the affidavit.

Detective Dana Ward said Baez was charged because she did not intervene or try to get help for Darisabel.

Johnson and Baez remained in custody Tuesday. His bail was set at $200,000; hers was $25,000.

Through police, family members declined requests for interviews Tuesday. Court officials said they did not know whether Johnson and Baez had lawyers to speak for them.
PITTSBURGH (AP) A western Pennsylvania couple has sued Google Inc., saying pictures of their home on its Web site violate their privacy and devalued their property.

Images of the home Aaron and Christine Boring bought in the Pittsburgh suburb of Franklin Park in October 2006 appeared on Google's "Street View" feature, which allows users to find street-level photos by clicking on a map.

"A major component of their purchase decision was a desire for privacy," according to their complaint, filed Wednesday in state court, which also says the couple suffered mental distress.

The images must have been taken from the couple's long driveway, which is labeled "Private Road," and that violated their privacy, according to the complaint.

To gather photos for Street View, Mountain View, Calif.-based Google sends vehicles with mounted digital cameras up and down the streets of major metropolitan areas taking pictures. Many other companies take real estate photos the same way.

Google spokesman Larry Yu said the site indicates that property owners can get the company to removed images if they cite a good reason and can prove they own the property depicted.

"We absolutely respect that people may not be comfortable with some of the imagery on the site," Yu said. "We actually make it pretty easy for people to submit a request to us to remove the imagery."

If the Borings made such a request especially if they told Google its photos must have been shot from their driveway Yu said he is confident the image would be removed.

The couple's attorney, Dennis Moskal, said the point is that the Borings' privacy was invaded when the Google vehicle allegedly drove onto their property.

Removing the image won't undo that damage, nor will it deter the company from doing the same thing in the future, Moskal said.

"Isn't litigation the only way to change a big business' conduct with the public?" Moskal said. "What happened to their accountability?"

Yu declined comment on the suit itself because the company was still reviewing it.

Google is not the only Web site with a photo of the Borings' property.

The Allegheny County real estate Web site has a photo, plus a detailed description of the home and the couple's names. Similar information, including pictures, of nearly every property in the county is on the Web site.

Moskal said the county's image appeared to be taken from a public street.

"The county's not trespassing," Moskal said.

Moskal said his clients did not wish to speak to the media. The Associated Press could not find a listed phone number for them.

The Borings paid $163,000 for the property, according to the county Web site. The county describes the home as a single-family, four-room bungalow with a full basement. The one-story frame home was built in 1916 and sits on a property that's a little less than 2 acres.

The home is 984 square feet with a fireplace and central heat and county assessors graded it as being in "Fair" condition. The county Web site does not mention the property's two detached garages and swimming pool, which are visible in the Google pictures and are mentioned in the couple's lawsuit.

Lil Wayne's Tha Carter III has apparently been delayed yet again.

According to SOHH, the album, which was due out in May, is now slated for a June release.

The New Orlean's rapper hasn't released an album since 2005's Tha Carter II, though he has appeared on a slew of features and remixes, keeping him a fan favorite.

Tha Carter III has gone through numerous delays. Named "the #1 most anticipated album of 2007" by XXL, the release date was changed to 2008 after most of the album leaked in mid-2007. Wayne subsequently put out a release called The Leak, comprised of the most of that music.

Cops probe goat 'rape'

The Williamsfield police in Manchester say they now have in their custody a man who they believe had sex with a pregnant goat.

The suspect was held after some items left at the scene of the molestation were identified as belonging to him. Reports reaching THE STAR are that the suspect's ratchet knife, cellular phone and keys were found at the scene in Belair district, near Bellefield, Manchester.

It is alleged that between 6 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday, the pregnant goat was assaulted. The animal was found dead by the property owner. The 46-year-old man now in police custody could be charged with bestiality.

The police have so far summoned a veterinarian, who confirmed that the animal had been sexually molested. Following investigations and the discovery of the items at the scene, the suspect was taken into custody.

Shock

Several residents converged on the scene expressing shock about the incident. One resident who knew the suspect said: "I met it (the news) with a lot of shock. He usually fix ... and things like that, but I don't know him to do these sort of things."

Residents say the suspect was not known to have any mental illness.

What makes the case seem even more perverted is that residents also claim that the animal was found with its eyes dug out and its private parts swollen.

BRIEF CASE

BRIEF CASE

Dear Pastor,

Two years ago, I decided to live here in Canada. I am a born Jamaican and really like my culture. I have a two-year-daughter who I love dearly. She is smart and full of fun. My child's father and I are still together, but my heart is not where it should be. I am having an affair with a 39-year-old married man. I am 20, and find this man to be real fun.

The only problem is that his wife is my mom's best friend and also my good friend. Pastor, I try sometimes not to see this man, but I just can't. He is everything a woman dreams of having or hoping to have someday. When we have sex, it's amazing. It's as if all of my problems are long forgotten. He said he loves me and I love him too.

Am i a fool?

Pastor, do you think that I am a fool to fall for this man? He has two kids with his wife. You might think that I am crazy, but trust me, I am not. Do you think this man is taking advantage of me and I am too much of a fool to see it? No one suspect us and I am hoping no one does, even though "what in darkness must come into light". I am confused.

Please, tell me what to do. I am scared for my life or should I say a life I don't have. Thank you for every advice you have to give. I am going to college.

B., Canada

Dear B.,

I have deleted two things from your letter so that no one will be able to identify you easily. I believe that you mean well and I believe that you are caught up in a relationship that you never thought would have happened to you. It is not that you are dumb or unintelligent.

It is just that you yielded to the temptation of the flesh. And this man has treated you with respect and has done things with you that you did not experience with your boyfriend.

No further

However, don't let it go further. You are going to get into serious problems if you do. You can ruin his family life and cause his wife and your mother to turn against you. This man can help you by not coming on to you.

Tell him that you are scared to death that the relationship that both of you are having is going to get both of you into trouble, so it should end.

Don't go on any more dates with him and don't encourage him to come to your house to visit you.

Work on the relationship with your child's father. It may not be the best, but even if it means that the both of you should get professional help, do so.

Seven St Elizabeth men to answer gun, drug charges today
VAUGHN DAVIS, Observer staff reporter davisv@jamaicaobserver.com
Thursday, April 10, 2008

SEVEN St Elizabeth men, including well known businessman Lumsden Ledgister, are scheduled to appear in the Half-Way-Tree Criminal Court today to answer charges of conspiracy to export ganja, and conspiracy to import guns and ammunition into Jamaica.

The other accused men are Luddy Banton, Felix Dennis, Horace McKenzie, Richard Graham, Kenric Bennett and Andrew Reid.

The men, the police alleged, are believed to be major players in the illegal drugs-for-guns trade between Jamaica and Haiti.

The seven, who were picked up by Operation Kingfish operatives in January, are alleged to have piloted a boat laden with ganja to Haiti in May last year, where they allegedly exchanged the drugs for weapons.

However, during their attempt to travel back to Jamaica in July their boat allegedly developed mechanical problems and went adrift, eventually running into Cuban waters.

While in Cuban waters the men were intercepted by Cuban security officials, who allegedly caught the men trying to dispose of several guns.

The Cuban Government later contacted the local authorities and had the men turned over. They were arrested and charged in January following months of investigations.

A woman who escaped from the St. Catherine based all female Fort Augusta prison has been recaptured.

Regina Lewis escaped custody while at a medical facility where she was being treated for an unspecified illness.

She was in the custody of a Senior Correctional Officer, when she escaped.

Head of Corrections Major Richard Reese told the RJR News Centre that Miss Lewis, who was serving nine months in custody for malicious destruction of property and possession of a chillum pipe, was captured by the Yallahs Police.

"She will be charged for escaping custody and go before the court for a determination to be made and then be returned to the Fort Augusta Adult Correctional Centre to complete her sentence and any other sentence that may be handed down by the Court," he said.

Major Reese also confirmed that Miss Lewis was eligible for early release next month.

As 2007 comes to an end, DJ Khaled's grind picks up. Speaking to zone right before his 6pm radio show on WEDR 99 Jamz, "Mr. Miami" looks back on his big year, how Kris Kringle stuffed his Christmas stockings with cash, holiday shopping for his girlfriends, and why he'll probably be screaming "We the best" well in to 2008.

zone: What were the highlights of 2007 for you?
KHALED: I won a BET award. I won an Ozone award. I won Dirty awards. And my album's been so successful. "We Takin' Over" and "I'm So Hood" are two of the biggest records of the year. The success has been amazing.

Going back to your childhood, what were your Christmas experiences like?
Around this time of year, I would be working extra hard with my family. And even when I was a kid, I was so in to music and getting creative. I was trying to be the next hip hop mogul. I was so in to my music and my work. I had a big, humongous Cerwin-Vega stereo system in my room when I was like 10 or 11.

Were you into toys and things like that as a kid? What was your favorite gift?
My parents used to give me money. When I was a kid, I just loved money. I was a little don. When I was really young, my favorite gif was money, and when I was 13 I got my turntables. It was a big deal to me. And then, of course, I had to upgrade and got the MPC drum machine.

What is a regular holiday season for you like now?
It's all work. I'm on the radio every day. And this is when it gets really busy, because everybody wants to book me for a show. So this is like the come-up month. At the same time, this is when you get hurt, not physically, but hurt in the pockets. You make money, but you gotta spend money and get everybody gifts. And you got girlfriends that want to act like Christmas is... you feel me?

What's the biggest present you've given someone for Christmas?
Umm, probably some money. I've probably given someone like $10,000 or something in cash.

What do you want for Christmas?
I want to get my dream home, but I don't think that's gonna happen for Christmas. Nobody is gonna buy that for me. I'll try and buy it for myself. I got a beautiful home now, but I believe in upgrading every year.

What do you have planned for 2008?
For 2008, I'll be working on my new album and I want it to be number one in the country, like the other two albums. And I'm launching off my label called We the Best Music. And I two new artists named Ace and Bali. They're going to be the next big things out of Florida. I'm A&R for Luda's new album. I'm managing The Runners. We're gonna take it to another level. I'm working with Fat Joe and Rick Ross for their albums. But that We the Best Music is gonna be huge!
The Student's Union of the University of Technology (UTECH) has denied claims by the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) that the row over the private bus service being offered to students was settled.

On Wednesday, obviously upset representatives of the student body called the RJR News Centre insisting that a consensus had not been reached.

According to the UTECH Students Union, the JUTC offered some alternatives which were still being considered by the student body.

The executive members of the Students Union have been locked in a meeting, following which they said they will issue their own release.

News broke on the weekend that the JUTC had deemed the bus services provided by the UTECH Student Union and the Student's Guild of the University of the West Indies (UWI) illegal.

The JUTC said the student bodies were infringing on its license since it had the exclusive right to operate in the Kingston Metropolitan Transport Region.

Meanwhile, the JUTC is insisting that the students have it wrong.

They say a settlement was arrived at following Tuesday's intervention of Minister of Transport Mike Henry.

Image  JUTC's Marketing Manager Lenworth Simms claimed both sides agreed that the present system will run until the contracts expire at the end of May.

Following that, the JUTC will implement a service to operate from the University to selected points in the Corporate area and St. Catherine.

"We will be meeting and collaborating on an ongoing basis so we can have other factors ironed out and other agreements clarified. As far as we're concerned we have met and we have agreed and we're (going to) stick by this agreement," Mr. Simms.

He said the state-run bus company is interested in reaching a similar agreement with the Guild of Students at the UWI.

However, he said arrangements have not yet been made for the parties to hold talks.

Gangs issue death lists

April 7, 2008
Started By jamaicabwoy31 Comments

Warring thugs in Cassava Piece and Glen Drive, St Andrew, have created lists with the names of persons they say must die, STAR investigations have revealed.

THE STAR understands that one of the names on the hit list is popular dancehall artiste David 'Mavado' Brooks, among others, who are marked for death by men from Cassava Piece. Mavado is said to be affiliated with a crew which is based on a section of Glen Drive.

Deputy Superintendent Carol McKenzie, head of operations for the St Andrew North police, admitted to THE STAR that the police have heard talk of the hitlists.

"Yes, we have heard of it, there are some names on some lists, but we haven't actually seen it," DSP McKenzie said. He was unable to say which names are on the lists.

Detective Sergeant Michael Greenwood of the Area Five police says the police have received information that Mavado's name was on one of the lists. But, they are unable to prove this as they have not actually seen any of the lists.

"We know there is some conflict between the men and Mavado, as he is said to be affiliated with one side. As a result, he is said to be on the list of the men from the other side ... We hear all sorts of things," Greenwood told THE STAR.

According to DSP McKenzie, the so-called hit lists, or rumours of their existence, surfaced around January.

THE STAR learnt that men from Cassava Piece and the adjoining community of Glen Drive have vowed to get rid of the selected individuals.

The warring factions have been at each other's throats since last September when two well-known men from both communities were shot dead in separate, but related incidents.

Innocent *lo**

Reports reaching The STAR are that on September 4, an individual known as 'Tin Man' from Cassava Piece was shot dead by gunmen as he celebrated the victory of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in the general election a day earlier.

Almost two weeks later, 'Bobby Slew', a high-ranking member of the Glen Drive community, was gunned down in what the police theorised was a reprisal for Tin Man's death.

Recent violent incidents have led the loss of several lives, some said to be innocent, while others were tagged as criminals by police sources.

"In the last flare-up of violence, two-high ranking members of Cassava Piece were killed ... There is a war between the communities," DSP McKenzie confirmed.

As a result, residents of both communities are cowering in fear, noting that not being on the alleged hit lists does not guarantee their safety.

"Di man dem have list weh dem a work wid but a whole heap a innocent people a dead," Mr. Scott, an elderly resident of Glen Drive, said.

Similarly, Mrs Shirley, another elderly Cassava Piece resident, said: "A pure innocent *lo** a shed, wi tired a it now, wi hear seh dem all have down people name who dem want, but people weh nuh involve still a get hurt."

Although both sets of thugs were tight-lipped on the topic of their respective lists, one known 'shotta' from Cassava Piece was adamant, claiming "Da war ya nah go done."

"Dem out fi we and we out fi dem, we always a bleach (stay up late) an a look out fi dem an wi nuh fraid fi tek dem on," he added.

Meanwhile, DSP McKenzie said the police have an interest in some men whom they believe are key players in the feud. He urged residents to assist the police in bringing these men to justice.

"In terms of the conflict, there are some names of men alleged to be key players, but there is no evidence," he told THE STAR.

The police have promised to maintain a presence in the troubled communities.

Bad Boy's Day 26 drops three places to #4 with their self titled debut selling just under 51,000 this week. The Diddy-created boy band was beat out by albums from George Strait, R.E.M., and the popular music compilation Now That's What I Call Music Volume 27, respectively. Southern femcee Trina proves she's indeed Still Da Baddest with her latest effort topping the rap charts and landing her the #6 spot on the Billboard Top 200 selling 46,700 units in her first week. Danity Kane's Welcome To The Dollhouse follows closely behind at #7 with just under 46.600 sold. Rick Ross rounds out the top 10, this week dropping from #6 to #9 as Trilla sells 41,000 in its fourth week on the charts.

Flo Rida, despite criticisms that his album could not be carried very far by his hit single "Low" and his second, popular but less successful single "Elevator," still remains afloat on the charts at #15. Mail On Sunday sold just under 28k this week while Snoop Dogg's Ego Trippin' dropped from #13 to #21 with 23,600 sold. Even with a slew of near-classic reviews causing massive buzz for Gnarls Barkley's sophomore effort The Odd Couple, the two still can't seem to make that buzz reflect on the charts as they dropped from #12 to #22 selling 23,000 this week. Further down the charts, Lupe Fiasco's The Cool inches towards gold with 441,000 sold total.

RISING STARS LAUNCH TONIGHT
Tonight is the launch of this year's Digicel Rising Stars show, One876Entertainment.com will be there to give you the latest scoop as to who will take over from the effervescent Denise Hunt as the hostess of the show.

50 Cent has made it clear about the status of Young Buck, one of his artists who has had a shaky relationship with the company for several months. 50 Cent revealed today that the Tennessee rapper was no longer in G-Unit the group, but would still record for the label.

You can look at it and see thats Game [former G-Unit rapper] all the way. I was giving him a chance, giving him the benefit of the doubt [to remain with the group]. You can take this as an official notice right here pretty much you can say: Young Buck is no longer in the group G-Unit, but signed to G-Unit [Records] as a solo artist, 50 Cent told DJ Envy, a co-host on the Hot 97 Morning Show with Miss Jones.

Most recently, Young Buck revealed that he had not collected any royalty income as an artist on G-Unit Records, a subsidiary of Interscope. Those reports were quickly dispelled by Sha Money XL, manager of Young Buck, who said the rapper was waving the G-Unit flag strong.

There has been a new rumor going around that 50 Cent has not paid Young Buck any royalties," Sha Money XL told AllHipHop.com. "I, as Bucks manager and as former President of G-Unit Records, want to make it clear: that is false. Young Buck has cleared over $10 million dollars working under 50 Cents and my guidance.

Young Buck, born David Darnell Brown, was expected to appear on Shoot to Kill, the follow up to G-Units 2003 debut album titled Beg For Mercy.

Young Buck once was to lead the charge for 50 Cents G-Unit Sout imprint. Instead, the rapper started Cashville Records and signed rap vet C-Bo and The Outlawz, who were a part of Tupacs inner circle of emcees.

But has also started David Brown clothing to supplement his rap offerings.

50 Cent and The Game initially parted ways, because the Compton upstart wouldnt assume beefs with Nas and Fat Joe that the rest of G-Unit had declared.

Popular radio personality Nikki Z says she is remaining hopeful that her mother can recover from her present battle with cancer.

Carol Duhaney, Nikki Z's mother, was recently diagnosed with the disease and although there is no cure, the disc-jock is hoping that with the right treatment and family support, her life can be sustained.

"Right about now we're just taking it day by day. They (the doctors) say she has melanoma cancer and there is no cure for it, but there is treatment. She is in high spirits and she's a fighter," Nikki Z said.

Nikki Z's mother, who is originally from St Elizabeth, now lives abroad, but according to Nikki Z, "I'm trying to get her to move back. I'm telling her maybe it's the Lord's way of telling her to come back home and relax and take some time for herself."

According to Nikki Z, "She's been helping people all her life, she put herself through school, got her CNA (certified nursing assistant) and now I just feel that she needs to take some time out for herself."

"My thing is like my mother's thing, I'm taking it day by day. She has medicine to take in the morning, so as long as she's coping fine, I'm coping fine. It's one of those illnesses that you can't do nothing about, but if you think about it too much, you can get really depressed," Nikki Z said.

She added, "We're focussing on getting her better, so we just have to make sure she's happy, keep her in high spirits, call and bother her and remind her that she has something to fight for."

Mom and I

Nikki Z says her relationship with her mom was "always like water and vinegar, but at the same time, we are exactly the same. But she is always teaching me little lessons in her own way."

She recalled, "one time, I was watching TV and she kept calling me and I kept saying, 'what'. And she kept calling me until she threw a big old corn and it connected me right in the headback and I said, okay, yes mom - so she got the point across -.I never answered her saying 'what' again."

In the meantime, Nikki Z is back in Jamaica, but says, "my mom is surrounded by lots of family and when they visit, I always tell them to do an extra one just for me."
