JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 22-year-old man is accused of balling up pieces of bread and trying to sell them as crack cocaine to senior citizens in a Florida nursing home.

Investigators said Hillmon Arnold tried to sell the fake cocaine at the Golden Retreat Center on Moncrief Road.
"He was trying to sell these pieces of crack for $5 apiece to these elderly citizens and, clearly, trying to take advantage of them because he knew they received their checks on the 10th of every month," JSO spokeswoman Melissa Bujeda said.
Police said Arnold ran when officers approached him in the parking lot of the facility.

When officers caught up with him, they said they found a pill bottle in this waistband that contained seven or eight aspirin and something that looked like a rock of crack cocaine -- but it wasn't, WJXT reported.
"He actually admitted he was trying to sell artificial crack cocaine to support his own drug habit," Bujeda said.

Even though what he was selling was not an illegal substance, he was still breaking a law: sale/manufacture/delivery or possession of a counterfeit control substance -- a third-degree felony.
"Because the person on the other end has no idea that it's fake or real, so whether you're attempting to sell a fake or real drug, when you're trying to sell that and you are leading the person to believe it's a real drug, you're just as guilty," Bujeda said.
In addition to the counterfeit drug charge, Arnold was also charged with resisting arrest without violence. He was booked into the Duval County jail and held on $52,506 bond.

Crude prices surge to all-time trading high as dollar loses more ground against euro.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Crude oil prices rose to a new record high above $113 a barrel Tuesday as the U.S. dollar weakened further against the euro.

Light, sweet crude for May delivery rose to a new trading high of $113.93 a barrel in early morning electronic trading. The previous high of $112.21 was set April 9.

Oil settled at a record closing high of $111.76 a barrel on Monday.

"The path to $115 is cleared," said Stephen Schork, publisher of the oil trading newsletter The Schork Report.

Ringing dollar bell

The latest surge in crude prices is partly due to weakness in the U.S. dollar, analysts said. As the dollar has dropped versus the euro, many investors have flocked to commodities such as oil and gold to preserve the value of their assets.

"Those Pavlovian dogs are barking. Until someone breaks them out of that paradigm, they're going to keep trading that way," said Schork.

The euro bought $1.5865 early Tuesday, up from $1.5808 the previous session. The euro hit an all-time high against the dollar last Thursday.

Traders are also trying to get ahead of rising demand for crude as refineries finish their maintenance cycles and begin gearing up for fuel production over the next few months, Schork said.

Petrobras fizzle

Surprisingly, traders are not taking into account Monday's news that Brazilian oil company Petrobras (PZE) may have made the largest oil discovery in 30 years. According to Harold Lima, president of Brazil's National Petroleum Agency, the off-shore find could contain the equivalent of 33 billion barrels of crude, the world's third-largest oil reserve.

A find that large would normally put pressure on crude prices, said Omar Nokta, managing director of energy and commodities investment bank Dahlman Rose & Co. But the time and technology takes capitalize on new deep-water discoveries may be mitigating its effect on the markets.

"It's not going to happen overnight like it did 10 years ago," said Nokta. In a best-case scenario it would take a "good 5 years to fully develop a find," he added.

The new record for crude comes as both refined gasoline and diesel fuel reach record prices at the pump. According to a AAA survey, regular unleaded gasoline hit $3.386 a gallon, and diesel reached $4.119.

In other Nymex trading, heating oil futures rose slightly to $3.2029 a gallon while gasoline prices rose more than a penny to $2.8218 a gallon. Natural gas futures gained more than 15 cents to $10.053 per 1,000 cubic feet.

In London, Brent crude futures rose $1.79 to $111.63 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange. To top of page

Harry Toddler inks ringtone deal with BaTelCo
15 Apr 2008 | by Phlex, Staff Writer

Jamaican artiste, Harry Toddler has inked a major licensing deal with Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation (BaTelCo),  the telecommunications giant from The Bahamas, to sell downloads of the ringtone for his number one hit, Don't Run In in that country.

Harry_Toddler3.jpg"They came here and shot a commercial with him as well to promote the ringtone. They were impressed with his voice, and the melody of his delivery, and so they signed him up to sell downloads of his music, this represents a potentially lucrative deal for the Blond Ras," Josef Bogdanovich revealed to One876Entertainment.com.

The company also inked Tony Rebel to a similar deal. BaTelCo is a major sponsor of this year's Down Sound Records produced 'Millennium Countdown' show. Recently, in conjunction with the Swiss telecommunications company Swiss Telecom PTT, BaTelCo developed a digital satellite communication system between Switzerland and The Bahamas, two of the world's prominent financial centers.

findImg.php?pic_size=200&table_name=news_img_tab&table_field=img_id&img_id=1367 Top flight deejay Mr. Vegas is gearing up for a big comeback in 2008 after literally dominating the local airwaves last year with a slew of dance tracks that had dancehall fans "tekking away demselves".

If that's not enough to keep him in the publics eye the energetic singjay just recently teamed up with Internationally acclaimed video director Jay Will (Game Over) and the talented producer Carleene Samuels for the shoot of his 'Hot Gal Nuh Fight Ova Man' video.

The video which was shot completely in studio bears the likeness to an episode of the "Jerry Springer Show" with a Jamaica twist. This video in the opinion of 876radio may be arguably Vegas's best work to date even though he was always known for good quality productions.

The star studded project sees several popular faces making cameos some of these include The fluffy diva Miss Kitty, who plays the character of host of the "Talk Di Tings" show, Blade from Code Red, and a comedic band of young actors/actresses who played out a very believable set. One of the most hilarious moments in the video sees several young ladies engaging in a physical fight over a man on live television after the results of a paternity test were revealed..

In August 2007, Mr. Vegas released his latest album Hot It Up, distributed by Delicious Vinyl/Fontana in the USA, Five Man Army in Japan and Cargo throughout selected countries in Europe. The critically acclaimed effort includes the fiery tracks Tek Wey Yuhself, Lean Wid It, Nuh Friend From Dem, Hot Wuk and many more.

Mr.Vegas has maintained a steady presence on the music scene with chart toppers such as Hot Wuk, which dominated all of the major American, Caribbean and European charts. The single even made an entrance on Billboards Hot R&B/ Hip Hop Singles chart. For Dancehall artist Mr. Vegas, every day provides new opportunities. As entertaining the massive with quality Reggae music is his passion, Mr. Vegas will continue to be a dominant force in the music industry.

Anglican Church Leader Backs Gay Dance Ban Now it is clear that we are heading for trouble with this gay war...when the church gets involved and gets on the side of the immoral struggle. Check out this story gleaned from the internet and let free your opinions... Adding yet more fuel to the fire that is the Anglican Church's debate on homosexuality, the head of the Anglican Church has backed a church school's decision to deny gay students' request to bring same-sex partners to a school dance. Several gay students at the Anglican Church Grammar School 215 had requested to take their partners to the Year 12's end of year dance. Current policy dictates that one can only attend with a member of the opposite sex, however. The headmaster, Jonathan Henman, had said that tradition was only opposite sex couples went to the dance, although he was open to discussing the issue with students. However, he believed the dance was to emphasize interaction between members of the opposite sex. For now, the policy still stands. Anglican Archbishop Phillip Aspinall said he was behind the headmaster's decision to deny same-sex couples entry to the dance. Aspinall said: "I have no personal objection to a school deciding to allow boys to take friends who are boys or girls to take friends who are girls to school formals." He added: "But I understand in this particular instance the school has decided that its approach is to emphasize the interaction of young men and young women and providing them with an opportunity to do that in this kind of formal setting. And I have no objection to that either. I think that's a reasonable and legitimate approach." Posted by yardFlex at April 15, 2008 10:27 AM

Rookie sensation Munga Honourable has denied rumours that he has become the latest recruit of The Alliance. In fact, he laughed heartily and repeatedly when One876Entertainment.com first broached the subject with him.

No, that is not true, he said, the laughter still in his voice.

I am not in the Alliance, how this all began was when I was going to Skeng Don show one night and the singer said I should spar with him and go Strip Tease first before we roll to Clarendon so I did that because it is about promotion. So we roll to Utech, then Clarendon, then back to Payneland. The following week, we end up in Negril even though I was not booked for the show, so it has been fun, and we mek two more flex after thatmi like sparring wid the singer.

The rumours had been sparked when Munga was spotted rolling with the blazing hot deejay Mavado at hangout spots and at entertainment events all over Jamaica in the last two weeks.

It is just a mutual respect and connection with me and Mavado, the 26 year-old deejay born Damian Rhoden told One876Entertainment.com.

The deejay has long been a member of Capletons David House for several years. However, last year, the rookie deejay hit the dancehall scene like an angry typhoon with his unapologetically hardcore single, No Bad Like I, which became a rude-boy anthem at stage shows all across Jamaica.

Munga grew up in the parish of St. Mary where he attended Hillside Primary and later St. Mary High for two years. He then moved to Kingston where he attended Tarrant High school. After leaving school, he drifted a little, hanging around the David House camp. He was the 'banner-man' in Capleton's Dutty Life video in the late 90s, and he also did collaborations with Little Capes (Capleton's younger brother), all the while trying to concentrate his energies on honing his talents and mic skills. He did his first recording in 1999, a song called Hold A Vibes, a collaboration with other David House members on the Loyal Soldier label. Soon after, he began to do small stage shows.

However, despite his outstanding vocal ability, it was not until the year 2005 that the deejay who describes his sound as 'part Biggie-part Pac-part-Jigga with a piece of Capleton, Sizzla and Bob Marley' registered his first hit, when he recorded Bad Like I, a 16-bar freestyle that became a landmark hit.

He is still jointly managed by David House and the Don Corleon-owned Vendetta Records. Munga's other hits include Flipping Rhymes and Earthquake.

Fabolous: The Best Of Both Worlds

April 15, 2008
Started By Casino4 Comments
For an artist with two platinum and two gold albums to his name, and a technically ten year-long resume as a professional emcee, you would think Brooklyns own Fabolous would command more respect in the rap game. Unfortunately or fortunately, wherever you stand on F-A-B-O, the man born John Jackson tends to be one of the most criticized spitters that enhabit the rotten apple even while remaing one of the citys most consistently successful. The line on Mr. Loso is that hes raw on mixtapes [click to listen], but saccharine sweet on his own albums. And while his latest LP, From Nothin To Somethin [click to read], netted him another gold plaque for his collection, the CDs two female-friendly singles have led many a Fab fan to wonder if the man behind certified hood classics the likes of Breathe and Return Of The Hustle will ever actually let his Baby go in favor of feeding the streets. The answer to that question will be answered in the fourth quarter of this year when Fabolous unleashes his most daring effort to date, a film-inspired concept album. Fab took time out of his busy tour schedule recently to speak to HipHopDX.com about said album. He also addressed all of the stories that have surfaced over the past year-and-a-half regarding his reportedly celebrity-robbing crew. And on a slightly lighter note, Fab explained why hes not ashamed of recording more commercial fare (even with former pop princess Britney Spears), shared his thoughts on M.O.P.s versatility, and maybe most notably in our conversation highlighted how hes not biting Jay-Zs movie motivated release, but in fact how Hova might have actually bit him. HipHopDX: Lets start by talking about your upcoming album, can you finally reveal to our readers which movie it is that your basing the albums concept around? Fabolous: We are not releasing the movie [name] yet because [I havent] actually started the whole recording process. All I can state is that we are kinda theming [the album] after a movie that I felt had greatrelatable life scenarios. So what I wanted to do was not take that character and become the character of that movie, but take some of the scenarios that Im familiar with and I think will be familiar to other people also and make some songs [inspired from them]. DX: I know you had the Losos Way mixtape [and so] theres some rumors out there that the movies Carlitos Way. F: Yeah, we did that [already] with the tape. DX: Have you chopped it up with the movie studio [to] make sure youre? F: No, not really. I guess that comes a little later, but we havent [yet], no. Because Im not really going into character. Im not even sure if Im even gonna use like excerpts or anything from the movie, I just wanna take some of the scenarios of it [to inspire songs]. And I think people will be able to connect certain scenarios with lyrically how I attach [the songs]. I dont know Like, I wasnt really trying to actually make a soundtrack, ya know what I mean? DX: Yeah, you know youre already catching flack for looking like youre jacking Jay-Zs American Gangster concept [though]. F: One of the first interviews I did [talking about this album concept] I used that [comparison]. Of course this is one thing media loves to do, they love to make it look some kind of controversial way. What I said about the Jay-Z thing was Jay-Z had just done that with American Gangster. And like you just said, I did [a concept record based off a movie] with Losos Way for the mixtape, which was before American Gangster. But nobody [cites that]. Of course that wouldnt be stated [in the media]. But anyway, what I was saying [is] that what Jay did is kinda he went more into [the] character of his [chosen movie]. I used the Jay reference as saying that I wouldnt be in as much character as Jay [was]. Jay may have looked at himself in character and said, "I come from maybe the same cloth [as Frank Lucas]." And even certain lines in the songs he referenced himself to Meyer Lansky and Frank Lucas and saying hes like Frank Lucas - except for the snitching part, and stuff like that. So he refers to himself in the same character. With me, Im not doing that. DX: And you said you just started working [on the album], are you planning on doing something similar to what he did in terms of the production, like having producers look at the movie to inspire the sounds? F: I kinda wanted to do that but the time that movie [is set in] is I just want them to see what they get from the movie and make that the inspiration for the music, but not relate the music [to the period the movie is set in]. Like how Jay made all the sounds on that album from the sound of that time, or the music is more mellow. The tone of the music is symbolic to the movie. Im not trying to really do that. I told produces to check the movie out because of what they might get, a scenario they may figure they can give a beat [toMe and Jay] really [are] just attacking [the concept] from two different ways. Like, Jay to me was attacking a movie from that way and Im trying to do it more in the sense of the plot and the story and the scenarios in the movie, not so much of the characters and the timing and the setting. The movie could take place in the 80s, [but] Im not gonna make the beats sound like theyre from the 80s. DX: Can you name which producers you got checking out the movie, which ones are gonna be assigned this task? F: Were very pre in the production stage right now. Ive talked with some of my in-house guys about it. Ive had a talk with Jermaine Dupri about it. I had a talk with DJ Toomp about it. Just Blaze A few guys that we just talked [to]. Nothings been sketched out really on paper or anything yet. So nobody has came to me [yet] with any tracks or anything. I do have a record done that I did that I think is fitting for the album, but that was not done by a producer who was already in that same mode. The record just happened to be a great record for the theme [of the album]. DX: Can you give us any details on that record? F: It doesnt really have a title [yet]. It was actually a record that was done for my last album, From Nothin To Somethin, but we didnt use it. This cut could go on a themed album, it could go on a not themed album, its just a well cut record. And its female-friendly [but] not at the same time. Its hard to describe cause its really a skeleton of the record. But its done lyrically. We just gotta add some things to it. So really, this conversation, everything is really premature, nothing is really solid except for that we are going for that theme. I didnt wanna let the movie [title] out based on how premature the project is right now. I didnt wanna give anybody else ideas who are maybe in recording now. I just didnt wanna spoil it by giving too much away. But I think [divulging the album plans] gives a little challenge to the producers. It gives [them] a chance to think what movie they think it is. Its like how you shouted out Losos Way from Carlitos Way, it gives [potential album producers] a challenge to see if they really know which movie [it is]. They may say, "Alright, let me watch the movie and see what I get." Cause one thing thats great about a movie is 10 different people can watch a movie and not all 10 people are gonna get the same thing from watching it. So thats why I thought it was great that the producers check it out and really get they own feel of the [movie] too. DX: One last question about the album, American Gangster was sort of a return to the streets for Jay-Z if you will, do you know if your movie inspired release is gonna be more Breathe or Make Me Better? F: I mean you could always expect a Make Me Better kind of feel in some of the music that I do, or expect at least a single of that kind of caliber. But what I try to do with my music too is always stay versatile [to] where you really dont know what kind of joint Im gonna come with. Im sure even when I came with Breathe just coming off of the two popular radio-friendly joints I had I dont think people were even expecting that to come. And then now to come with Make Me Better, when I came with that it was at a point where nobody had those kind of records too. And I think that kind of record sonically cut through everything that was playing [at the time] because of how heavily influenced radio and video is with south music and thats not the kind of joints that [southerners] actually make either. So I try to stay versatile. I dont really wanna give people a sound that they can guarantee me on. I think people know that I can make radio-friendly records. People who get the mixtapes, they know a little bit more of the lyrical talent. But like, albums to me are different from actually making mixtapes. When I make mixtapes Im pretty much wide open and free. And sometimes you can have that same freedom with making an album, but albums are a little bit more formatted, youre trying to attack a different kind of listener and a different kind of buyer sometimes. And you really have to do what works for you. Im not ashamed of doing any kind of radio records because at the end of the day, thats what works for me when I put out albums. Thats what makes people interested [in] the project as far as on a commercial mainstream [level]. On another level, when Im checking for the streets or when Im checking for other people who are not so following of mainstream music, thats when I put out mixtapes. Thats when I do remixes with other people. But really, album-wise, I try to keep it versatile. I dont really want people to bank me on, "Okay, is it gonna be 'Make Me Better' or is it gonna be 'Breathe'?" Just by you even being able to ask me that question, its a great thing for me because that means you dont really know what Ima come with

Deva Brat Abandoned at Court

Portmore Empire's first lieutenant Deva Brat seems to be going through some difficult times as last Thursday he was abandoned by members of his legal team who failed to show for his March 27th hearing.

876radio understands that due to the failure of his legal team, he was NOT granted bail when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court and was remanded in custody until May 1st, the new date set for his case.

Deva Brat incarceration stems from charges of carnal abuse after it was alleged that he was present during the sexual molestation of a minor.

According to the police report, two men aligned to the deejay pulled a 14 years old girl into a house where she was raped and later released. It 's also alleged that the deejay was on the premises at the time of the incident, and may have been involved.

The deejay who has been in lock up for weeks now, has proclaimed his innocence and many of his cronies from the Westchester community has come out in his defense with a similar verdict.

LOS ANGELES, April 7 (UPI) -- Gertrude Baines, one of the world's oldest women, celebrated her 114th birthday this week at a convalescent center in Los Angeles.

Baines, born near Atlanta in 1894, said she never consumed alcohol or smoked, but regularly eats bacon with her breakfast, the Los Angeles Times reported Monday.

"I eat bacon, toast -- I like all kinds of food. If it tastes good, I eat it. If it doesn't taste good, I don't eat it," she told the newspaper.

Baines, who is in good health and frequently exercises, says she spends her days watching television shows she loves such as "The Price is Right" and the "Jerry Springer Show."

The only people older than Baines are Edna Parker of Indiana, who has her 115th birthday in two weeks, and Maria de Jesus of Portugal, who had her 114th birthday in September, the Times said.

Guinness World Records declared Yone Minagawa, the world's oldest person in July. She died in August.

A heart transplant recipient who married the former wife of the heart donor, has committed suicide in the same way as the donor did.

Twelve years ago, Sonny Graham's heart was failing and he was on the verge of death, until he received a call from doctors, saying a donor heart had just become available.

That heart belonged to Terry Cottle, 33, who had committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.

The operation was a success and soon after, Mr Graham, 69, contacted the organ donor agency, saying he wanted to thank Mr Cottle's family.

He began writing to Mr Cottle's widow, Cheryl, 39, and they soon fell in love and were married in 2004, moving to the US state of Georgia.

After the wedding, Mrs Graham said: "It helped me so much. Meeting Sonny made it easier for me, knowing something so good came from something so bad."

In a newspaper article published in 2006, Mr Graham said he felt an instant and unusual attachment when he met his donor's widow.

"I felt like I had known her for years," Mr Graham said. "I couldn't keep my eyes off her. I just stared."

But now, 12 years after the operation, Mrs Graham's life has been rocked by another tragedy.

Mr Graham killed himself with a shotgun, in circumstances similar to those which claimed Mr Cottle's life.

His friends said he had shown no signs of being depressed and were at a loss to explain his sudden death.

According to scientists, there are more than 70 documented cases of transplant patients taking on some of the personality traits of the organ donors.

Teens and sexuality

What in the world has taken over our teenagers...it seems as if, a few years from leaving the w****, their hormones have gone into over drive! Jamaica is facing a serious problem with teenagers who are now the aggressors in pursuing sexual relationships with bus drivers, taxi men and whoever is willing to fork out the measly sum they are asking for. YardFlex took to the streets to get more information on this new crisis facing the country. One bus driver related: "Bwoy, nuff time mi haffi remind myself that a have a daughter at home and a wouldn't like nobady fi mess har up. Yuh have some real brazen schoolgirl whey just waan fling it pon yuh suh. It teck a strong heart fi ignore whey some a dem a offer," he said. One taxi driver was not so conscientious when it came to picking the fruit, "Dat dey cherry pick long time, cause when mi deal wid har, di way how mi go in easy mi couldn't believe. She tell mi fi gi har $500 and she wi let off. If mi a get a bargain mi a guh teck it of course!"

The 'Tree Man of Java' is hoping to get married after doctors performed four major operations to hack away the bark-like tissue sprouting from his hands and feet.

For 20 years Dede Koswara lived covered in warts with huge tree-like growths encasing his limbs.

Tree man Dede recovers in hospital after five operations to remove his root-like warts

Today Dede, whose plight was highlighted on the Telegraph website, can once more use his hands and walk without pain.

He can see the outline of his toes for the first time in over a decade after medics cut more than 4lbs of warty horns from his legs and feet.

He has also become a sudoko addict now medics have cut growths from his hands allowing him to hold a pen.

Dede, 37, now hopes that he will resume a normal life after two more operations to graft undamaged skin onto his hands, feet and face.

Speaking from an Indonesian hospital, he said: "What I really want first is to get better and find a job. But then, one day, who knows? I might meet a girl and get married."

Dede's ordeal began when he was 15 and cut his knee in an accident. A small wart developed on his lower leg and spread uncontrollably.

Eventually he had to give up work as a builder and fisherman, and scratch a living in a traveling freak show. His wife of ten years left him as it became impossible for him to support her and their two children.

Late last year, however, Dede's plight was highlighted on Telegraph.co.uk and in a Discovery Channel documentary.

The documentary team took American dermatology expert Dr Anthony Gaspari to Indonesia to see if he could find a cure.

Dr Gaspari, of the University of Maryland, concluded Dede's affliction was caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection usually causing only small warts.

Dede's problem was that he has an extremely rare immune system deficiency, leaving his body unable to contain the warts. The virus was therefore able to "hijack the cellular machinery of his skin cells", ordering them to produce massive amounts of the substance causing tree-like growths known as "cutaneous horns".

Treem man
Telegraph TV: The Tree Man of Java, Dede Koswara, before his operation

Indonesian health officials have suggested that the mysterious immune problem may occur in as few as 200 people worldwide.

Dede's counts of a key type of white *lo** cell were so low that Dr Gaspari initially suspected he may have the Aids virus.

Immediately after the documentary was aired, a row seemed to be brewing over Dede's treatment. The Indonesian government was worried that Dr Gaspari had taken *lo** and tissue samples abroad without official authorisation.

This was resolved, and Dr Gaspari has revisited Indonesia to meet the health minister Dr Siti Fadilah Supari. He is now liaising with the doctors caring for Dede at the Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung, West Java.

Dr Lily Sulityowati, from the Indonesian Health Department, said: "Once Dr Gaspari met with the minister and explained all, we were happy to work with him."

Dede went under the knife for his first operation in January. In the most recent operation, in March, doctors removed growths on his feet. The medics are now trying to ensure that the warts don't grow back.

Dede is taking vitamin A tablets to boost his immune system, and Dr Gaspari is hoping to get expensive anti-viral medicine available only in the US.

Dr Rachmat Dinata, the skin specialist leading the Indonesian doctors, said the final phase of operations should be completed in around three months. They will take skin from Dede's back and thigh and graft it onto damaged areas.

Dr Dinata said: "There is still a high risk that there will be a recurrent growth of warts. So far, though, there has been some thickening of the skin, but no recurrent warts. Dede is very happy. Hopefully he will be able to socialise and work again."

For now, Dede is passing the time in hospital doing sudoko puzzles. Skin grafts on his hands will allow him better movement in his fingers, but he can already punch numbers into a telephone and talk to friends.

His father Ateng, 72, said: "You can see the form of his 10 toes now. He can wear flip flops. He loves doing sudokos. He is in good condition."

Ateng added: "The first priority is to get cured and get a job, but as a father, of course I want my son to remarry. He is a normal guy and he is still a young man."

Half Man, Half Tree is also being shown as part of Channel Five's Extraordinary People series on Monday April 14 at 9pm.

BLAINE, Wash. - A 13-year-old boy hopes to win a balloon-blowing record by a nose

Blowing through one nostril at a time, Andrew Dahl inflated 213 balloons within an hour Friday a feat that has been submitted for review by Guinness World Records.

His father, Doug Dahl, measured the balloons to make sure each was at least 20 centimeters, the minimum diameter, and his mother, Wendy Dahl, kept the tally.

At one point he asked, "Does this count as practicing my trumpet?" His mother replied, "Only if you can play that with your nose."

Andrew's first attempt 184 balloons in February was rejected because his father tied the balloons. This time he tied them off himself.

DENVERDenver Nuggets star forward Carmelo Anthony was arrested Monday morning for suspicion of driving under the influence.

Denver police stated that Anthony was driving south on Interstate 25 roughly around 4 a.m. when he was pulled over and taken into custody. Investigators said he was driving a silver Mercedes that was stopped for failing to drive in a single lane and failing to dim lights.

Carmelo was pulled over late Sunday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, said Anthonys lawyer Dan Recht in a statement. He cooperated by consenting to a *lo** test, the results of which will not be available for approximately two weeks. There was no accident and no one was hurt.

Like anyone in a similar situation, Carmelo has to wait for the results of his *lo** test. He regrets putting himself in this situation.

Anthony was released on bond Monday morning on his own recognizance. A summons appearance was scheduled for May 14.

We are aware of the situation involving Carmelo Anthony, said Nuggets vice president of basketball operations Mark Warkentien in a prepared statement. We are currently gathering information and we will have no further comment at this time.

The Nuggets defeated the Houston Rockets, 111-94, on Sunday. Anthony scored just 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting and was limited to 25 minutes by foul trouble.

Lenya Wilks closes in fine Whitney style

Friday 11 April 2008 @ 10:15 am

Laughter was expected at Scotialink, Liguanea, St Andrew, on Sunday. After all, the event was billed a s Laugh Till Yu Bely Buss.

But there was brawta on the chuckles from Elva, Christopher Johnny Daley and Joan Andrea Hutchinson, as Dance Theatre Xpressionz provided dynamic, coordinated moves before and there was song after.

And Lenya Wilks anchored the song in excellent fashion to close off the concert segment of an event that had begun much earlier with a childrens fun day, Jerry Benzwick coordinating some of the fun and games.

Glee aplenty

There was glee aplenty during the daylight hours, hosted by Jerry Benzwick, what with the mechanical bull tossing quite a few wanna-be urban steer busters and two young men getting entangled and falling to girl power in the three-legged race.

Co-hostess from the audience

Everaldo Creary hosted the concert, plucking a co-hostess from the audience. And when Wilks sang clearly, accurately and powerfully that do what you want as long as youre with me, he trotted out and became her brief romantic interest, getting a few faux caresses to go with the song as she sang directly to him.

On an evening of brief performances, Wilks showed her versatility, rocking the house with The First Cut (Is The Deepest) and Hideaway. And when an encore was required, Wilks asked if she could sing a slow song. Getting a yes, she said that Whitney Houston was her favourite singer and the whoops went up as she invited share my life.

She hit the required highs in I Have Nothing and closed on a high of a different kind.

Song had also come from Albira and Suhverto after Joan Andrea Hutchinson had wrapped up the rib-tickling, more so than belly bursting, comedic segment.

Hutchinson read the poem of an ICI who marked her box F-R-A-G-G-L-E and the contents were duly broken up through rough handling. More word play of the Jamaican kind came with olabammy on a restaurant receipt and a man ordering a freshly squozen orange juice. Ivan Lef Me Inna Grief spoke of a wanna-be crook who camped out in front of Courts and was disappointed and she also read about De Hog Name Crowd, as well as her Bad Advice on a relationship.

Childhood

Elva, who started off the jokes, said that there are some people who stay at your home, licky licky and when their stay is up yu no see dem a move. Wha dem name? she asked. Some said squatter, but Elva corrected them and said pickney. She compared her kind of childhood to those which are enjoyed now, saying that her mother would conduct spot check like police. If she fin nutten whe she no buy, straight back to de owner.

And once her mother hit her when she had done nothing wrong. When Elva protested her mother said yu gwine do suppen tomorrow an I don have de time.

Licks were also on Johnnys mind, who said his mother could throw pot covers around corners like a boomerang. He worked in the message to the children that stealing is wrong and told the story of two troublesome boys, Paul and Peter. Peter was sent to the pastor for a good scare, the preacher demanding where is God?! And Peter told Paul that God los an dem tink is we tief im.

Britney Spears in minor Car accident

britneyspears_101107_300.jpgBritney Spears' motoring misfortunes continue. The pop star was involved in a minor traffic accident late Saturday, but no one was injured and no vehicles were damaged, authorities said.

Spears was driving her 2008 Mercedes on the eastbound Ventura Freeway just east of the 405 freeway about 8:20 p.m. when the mishap occurred, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.

Spears was in stop-and-go traffic when her car struck a 2006 Nissan in front of her that had stopped. The Nissan then pushed forward into another vehicle. No damage was noted to any of the vehicles.

The CHP took a report and no one was cited.

Since the mid-1980s, the scourge of AIDS has been taking its toll on the minds, bodies and lives of millions worldwide. Scientists are working to find a cure. As they do so, a Jamaican living in the United States has been saying for quite a while now, look no farther, the 'cure' is already available. He said it was sent to him by God.

"I did not come up with this 'cure' ... but, I was given it by the Angel Gabriel, who appeared to me in 2002, and said, 'I am going to give you the cure for AIDS.' So I replied, "There is no cure for AIDS!" Gabriel asked, 'Do you believe I am an angel?' Now, looking straight and stern at me, standing about seven feet away. So, I said, "Yes, what is it?" He showed me a species of the palm plant. I asked him how to get it out, which he showed me, and said that the dose should be 60ml three times daily for 21 days and the person will be 'cured' of AIDS.

And therein lies his challenge. Many in the medical science community don't believe him, even though he is claiming to have cured 400 persons so far with AMBUSH, the name of the drug derived from the plant. "I have contacted the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and a host of other institutions who were 'very interested' until they asked the question: 'Who gave you?' and (when) I said the Lord God, then all lights are out." But, before we get to the 'cure' itself, who is this man with such a huge claim?

Name change

In Warsop, Trelawny, in 1953, he was born Vernon Palmer. Last year, he changed his name to Apostle Shada Mishe. The year before, he was on the ballots for governor of the state of Florida. But, years before that, he attended Warsop Primary School, Knox College and the College of Arts, Science and Technology where he studied pharmacy.

He has worked as a pharmacist in many locations, including Red Hills Pharmacy in St Andrew; the Kingston Public Hospital, Hialeah Hospital in Florida. He also studied political administration, and law at Nova University, and health services administration at Florida International University. Then, in 2002, Angel Gabriel, on a mission of mercy, manifested itself to him.

For seven months after the 'revelation', Palmer did nothing about the 'cure', but when his friend Larry was near death from AIDS, he acted. He recalled, "So I gave him the 21-day dose. In which time, I had to boil and feed him with cornmeal porridge because he was so weak. After 21 days, Larry had recovered and was on his way to full strength. I made him take the HIV test again and it was positive.

"I asked the Lord why it was positive if he is cured. The Lord reminded me of the principle of virology 101. When the virus is killed, the antibodies are left in the body. Therefore, the individual will always be positive, similar to mumps or smallpox."

The palm then is the source of this much-needed cure. The Lord God, he said, has given him seven steps to isolate the active ingredient, which is soft and metallic in nature, and has a carbon-uranium-sulfur-(classified)-phentolamine configuration or structure.

Preparation

Palmer: "AMBUSH is a radioactive isotope of uranium that is found in the palm plant of which there are more than 3,000 species. When ingested, AMBUSH causes the body temperature in the trunk area to rise to about 102 degrees when the individual is sleeping. The preparation takes four hours per batch, which is then given to the individuals for consumption, 60ml three times daily for 21 days. AMBUSH is a herbal preparation in this form, but it contains an active ingredient, which is a new crystalline substance."

The active ingredient, he's contending, kills the virus by causing its protein envelope to rupture and the viral particles are discarded by the white *lo** cells. AMBUSH is able to kill the virus that is hiding in the lymph system by its natural radioactive properties. This process allows the body to return to normal health.

"After 21 days on AMBUSH, all the individuals experienced a decrease in viral load to undetectable - an improvement in general health such as more colour to the face, a decrease in buffalo hump, an increase in gluteal muscles, a decrease in joint pain. There is also a dramatic increase in their sexual appetite beginning after the first week of therapy."

In another claim of success, he said a 35-year-old male AIDS sufferer who found it difficult to urinate was put on green tea and water, while his doctors contem-plated prostate surgery. One of the doctors gave the patient his number. He sent the man a supply of AMBUSH. Since he has started taking AMBUSH 18 months ago, he has not been given any more anti-retroviral drugs, has been in good health and has expressed a willingness to be examined by HIV investigators.

Universal 'cure'

But AMBUSH seems to be a universal 'cure', for Apostle Mishe is saying that as an antiviral and a natural radioactivity-producing agent, it is also effective against leukaemia, lupus and the human papilloma virus (HPV).

Palmer: "Here I am saying that I have given AMBUSH in the same strength and dosage to patients with leukaemia, lupus and HPV." Yet, no organisation or government is willingness to buy into his claim.

"I have sent this idea to most HIV research agencies, scientists in the field, universities, hospitals, clinics, politicians and news agencies (and) it is rejected because the name of the Lord God is mentioned. He has steered me scientifically through the processes such as which plant and how to produce the active ingredient."

Palmer, who said he was christened and confirmed in the Anglican Church, which he still attends, and sent by the Holy Spirit to be baptised in the Pentecostal Church, wants his proposal to be accepted on the basis that he has proven that AMBUSH has saved many end-stage and/or drug-resistant sufferers and that the scientific community is aware of their recovery.

No charge

And to those who might say it is just a scam to earn money, the ordained minister said, "I have never charged any of the people for their supply of AMBUSH, but a life's saving has been spent on the project with no remuneration from any sources because AMBUSH falls outside the walls of modern medicine and research."

He is steadfast in his claim, for he said, "If this is accepted or not, believed or not, the Lord God always wins, and this is the heavenly truth to which AMBUSH was divinely given to mankind for the 'cure' of HIV/AIDS and it will be here forever."

mi might sound wicked wid dis, but i dont want the cure to be released. cuz a nuh ppl ahguh bruk out, more immoralities ah guh happen, esp the skool pickney.

Jamaican dancehall sensation David Mavado Brooks has faced more than his fair share of troubles but recently saw his name in a more positive note as he's featured in Billboard Magazine, for his contributions to music and his charitable inclinations in his country.

Mavado3.jpgInvolved in the annual undertaking of Soul Rebellion, a charity event that donates its proceeds to rebuilding schools in Jamaica, Mavado headlined the show at the Jungle Nightclub on March 11, bringing his spiel of hardcore dancehall to spring breakers and locals who turned out to support the underground icon and Soul Rebellion cause.

This week's Billboard Magazine (cover date April 12, 2008), arguably the most distinguished publication in the music industry, profiles Mavado and his hit remix with rap mogul Jay-Z, that's claiming airwaves across the world and spinning him into the mainstream.

Billboard writer Patricia Meschino journeyed to Soul Rebellion '08 on a media trip organized by RHONA FOX, INC. to take in the event, visit schools and interview Mavado, who despite the chaos surrounding him, was gracious in every way.

Soul Rebellion returns next year during spring break in Negril, Jamaica. It is the only festival with a cause, and after seeing firsthand where the proceeds go, it's indeed a cause worth your while. For more information on the works of Soul Rebellion and to join the cause log on to neetja

POLICE investigators say more women have been arming themselves with guns, joining gangs and committing gun-related crimes in recent months, but are baffled as to why this is happening.

And while the Sunday Observer was unable to gather hard data up to press time, a number of high-ranking police officials have confirmed that there has been a noticeable increase in criminal activities among Jamaican women.

20080412T020000-0500_134481_OBS_FEMALE_GUNSLINGERS__1.jpg

"It's not unusual for women to be involved in crime, but we have noticed a higher level of activity involving them over the past couple months," Deputy Superintendent Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford told the Sunday Observer.

Head of Operation Kingfish, Assistant Commissioner Glenmore Hinds, added that females seem to have graduated from their former roles of merely harbouring gunmen and sharing in their ill-gotten spoils to taking up the gun and committing murder, armed robbery and other gun-related crimes themselves.

Ford, who heads the Flying Squad, said he wouldn't hazard a guess as to the reasons behind the increased activity among women, but suggested that it was a natural progression based on some previous trends.

"It was the males who were involved in the drug trade until the females [effectively] took it over," he pointed out.

When the Sunday Observer spoke with him last Friday, Ford was on an operation in downtown Kingston and could not say off the top of his head exactly how many women the police are tracking. He did, however, give examples of two gangs of robbers - one of which is made up entirely of females - currently operating across the Corporate Area.

"We have a female who operates in Kingston 6 with three males. They do hold-ups and car-jacking. The female goes into the establishment, like a bar for example, orders drinks then the others join her and they rob the customers and the establishment," he said.

Similar activity was also evident around the time of Hurricane Dean last year, he said, when a banker was shot in a bar at Bronstorph Square off Washington Boulevard in the Kingston 20 area. The female's role in that robbery was to relieve the patrons and the bartender of their cash.

"A female was also shot in a robbery attempt in Harbour View about three weeks ago," added the cop, who said the woman hailed from the inner-city community of Tavares Gardens, more commonly known as Rema.

Last month, a woman was used by a group of gunmen who shot dead a shop owner at his business place at 31 Molynes Road. Residents said that the woman, dressed in a skimpy shorts, alighted from a car with the gunmen, went into the shop, apparently to distract Anthony 'Mettie' Glen and his customers, before the men in the car shot him.

Since the start of the year, at least three women have been arrested and charged with illegal possession of a firearm, robbery and other crimes in the Corporate Area.

The latest incident involved Tamika Lindsay, the girlfriend of former most-wanted fugitive and leader of the feared Gideon Warriors gang, Joel Andem. Lindsay was arrested and charged after police seized a Ruger 9mm pistol found in a bag of chicken feed at a shop she operated in the Land Lease community in St Andrew.

Lindsay is now behind bars.

Head of crime for the St Andrew Central police division, Deputy Superintendent McArthur Sutherland, said Lindsay was not the only woman gangster operating in his division.

One such female was held weeks ago at Ferry Lane in St Andrew. Police identify her only as 'Candice' or 'Man Royal', and described her as a dangerous criminal. According to Sutherland, 'Candice' has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm and assault, and will soon face the courts.

He said the woman brandished a firearm and pointed it at a cop before scaling a wall and escaping via a gully. The cops had swooped down on a premises in Zaidie Gardens, Kingston 20, in an effort to apprehend her when she pulled off the daring escape. She was wanted for questioning in connection with a murder on Red Hills Road at the time of the raid, Sutherland said.

The police say 'Candice' was also wanted for questioning in connection with gun-related crimes committed on Verene Avenue, Zaidie Gardens and in the 100 Lane area of St Andrew.
"She is a shotta girl who goes on the prowl with bad men," said Sutherland. "Women have always played a role. Now they are getting bolder and more assertive and are participating in robberies."

Head of the St Andrew North division, Superintendent Anthony Morris, said police in his division have also received reports of armed robberies carried out by women.

"We have been having a couple of robberies where females have featured. The females travel with a group of men and jump out of the vehicles with guns and rob people at gunpoint," Morris said.

Earlier this year, the Kingston West police arrested and charged a woman identified only as 'Tamara' after a high-speed car chase and shoot-out.

According to Deputy Superintendent in charge of crime for the Kingston west police, Arthur Brown, Tamara, was wanted for several armed robberies of gas stations all over the Corporate Area.

"They went on a robbery spree and were chased by police in Denham Town and were cornered at Metcalfe Street. The male driver escaped but she could not get out," Brown said.

"It's a serious concern and we're trying to analyse the data, get in touch with sources and arrest these people," added Ford.

Foxy Brown to be releaed next week Rapper Foxy Brown will be released from jail April 18, after serving eight months at New York's Rikers Island, this according to her manager. They had her on continuous lock down just because she is a celebrity. They were trying to break her spirit," Chaz Williams said. According to Reuters News, Williams revealed that Brown, born Inga Marchand, is in talks with a couple of television networks for a potential documentary and reality show on her life. Upon her release, Brown will also prepare for the release of her oft-delayed album, "Brooklyn's Don Diva," now due May 13. "She's going to get on top of her career again. She's ready to hit the ground running and do anything she needs to do to get her career back on point," Williams said. Brown was sentenced on September 8 to a year in jail for violating her probation after several arrests, including an altercation with two nail salon employees in August 2004 and assaulting a neighbor with a BlackBerry. Two pastors in Morant Bay, St Thomas, caused laughter in the town last Thursday when they clashed with Bibles in hand over a spot where they claimed they use to spread the Gospel.

Armed with their 'swords of righteousness', the men came close to physical blows after the pastor from the Spirit of Holiness Church arrived at his regular location to carry out his roadside service, only to find the pastor from the Nazarene Gospel Assembly preaching at the spot.

The two, who are known to each other, apparently had outstanding issues and it seemed the opportune time for the clash. The preacher who arrived last quickly launched into a verbal attack on his fellow minister. The pastor who was first on the spot responded swiftly.

The men threw a tirade at each other and were apparently on the brink of a physical clash, when the situation was defused by faithful worshippers who came with both men. The worshippers parted the men who curse at each other - with their Bibles in their hands.

Many who had come for some blessing left the scene cracking up with laughter, while others found it totally out of character as both men were chided by their flock.

"Dem shoulda know betta," an observer expressed as she and other onlookers who gathered discussed the situation.

The scene was later cleared by the police who stopped at the location after seeing the massive crowd which had gathered. One of the policemen proposed that permission may have to be sought for any such gathering in the future.

Mavado denied entry to USA

Teino Evans, Staff Reporter

STARCover_1_PMUNLBounceAM.jpg

There has been a series of disappointments for dancehall artiste David Constantine Brooks, more popularly known as Mavado, but the latest came recently when he was denied entry when he arrived in New York last Thursday.

Mavado, who had been apprehended in Jamaica recently on gun-related charges, only had his travel documents returned to him a few days ago, as they were ceased under a court order.

However, due to his recent troubles in Jamaica, Mavado says the New York authorities have denied him entry into their country.

"Dem sey dem get it sey mi Visa cancel an' mi wanted inna Jamaica, suh mi a sey how mi fi wanted inna Jamaica an' mi jus' a come from Jamaica. Suh dem a sey dem haffi guh sen mi back an' check it out," Mavado said in an interview with THE STAR. "A three show mi did fi do ova deh (in New York), but dem (the promoters) jus haffi understand di vibe cause mi nuh own plane or airport."

However, Mavado says he will not allow his recent troubles to get him down.

"Right now, fi tell yuh di truth, a jus' life a di greatest ting, suh mi nuh even a worry mi self. Mi jus tek everything to Jah in prayer. Suh all who a fight mi, none a dem power nuh greater dan Jah," Mavado said.

Adding, "Look how mi all jus' a come back offa tour an' police a come lock mi up an' charge mi, an a long time ting dat, 'bout one year ago dem sey. A jus' bare fight dem a fight mi ... But as mi sey, a on di rock. Mi sey, mi nah guh under."

Mavado, who appeared before the Gun Court on March 28, was granted $200,000 bail with one surety and was ordered to surrender his travel documents.

Brooks was charged in connection with an incident where two persons were shot and injured on July 27 last year.

Mavado is scheduled to return to the Gun Court on May 27

Mary Coleman, a 35-year-old vendor, has been stealing electricity for more than five years. She knows it's wrong, but says she is unable to do any better.

"Bwoy, a jus' mi circumstances why mi haffi do it," she tells The Gleaner. "I cyaan afford fi pay light bill, feed mi three (children) and buy goods and still survive."

Coleman, who lives in a two-bedroom home in Spanish Town, is one of thousands of residents who caused the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) to incur approximately $4.8 billion due to electricity theft in 2007. And to make matters worse, legitimate customers had to fork out an additional $2.8 billion to cover the cost. In 2006, the figures stood at J$4.1 billion. Approximately $2.3b was underwritten by JPS and $1.8b by customers.

This is because both JPS and its customers bear the costs associated with electricity theft.

Losses are negligible

But Coleman, who also steals electricity at her Burke Road stall, thinks that JPS's losses are negligible.

"The light weh mi a tief a nuh nutten," she says, as she hangs a Tommy Hilfiger shirt on her stall. "Dat nah affect nobody. Plus, JPS a rob people to," reasons Coleman. "All mi use light fi run a mi radio, mi TV and mi fridge and mi nuh overdo it," she said.

But Coleman acknowledges the safety risks that power theft presents, saying she would avoid stealing electricity, she could.

"A mi babyfadda put up the wire, mi nuh really understand weh him do, 'cause mi 'fraid a dem tings there," she says.

JPS, the nation's only public distributor of electricity, estimates that there are in excess of 110,000 illegal 'throw-up' lines or illegiti-mate connections in communities across the island, primarily found in inner-city and poor rural communities. Of this number, approximately 50 per cent are estimated to be in the Corporate Area.

But electricity theft isn't unique to inner cities or low-income earners.

Winsome Callum, head of communications at JPS, tells The Gleaner that though illegal 'throw-up' lines are not usually found in upper-class communities, where residents are typically legitimate customers, electricity theft is still a concern.

"In cases where legitimate customers steal electricity, they use more sophisticated methods, which include meter tampering, meter bypass and line taps," she said in an email response.

The cost has risen significantly over the years because of increases in fuel prices, which have soared by over 125 per cent during the last three years - the higher the fuel price, the greater the value of the electricity stolen.

The light and power company says it is spending over $300 million each year towards both preventing and detecting the theft of electricity.

The fight

"It must be recognised, however, that the fight against electricity theft must involve all stakeholders, legitimate customers, the Government, security forces, citizen's associations and community leaders," Callum urges.

Since the start of the year, the light and power company has already removed over 10,000 illegal 'throw-up' lines from several communities and has carried out approximately 2,000 large account audits. Additionally, about 5,000 small commercial and residential accounts have been investigated for irregularities.

In 2007, the company's reduction programme resulted in the removal of 25,000 illegal 'throw-up' lines, 134 arrests and the recovery of approximately $494 million in retroactive and forward billing.

Following some 15,000 account audits last year, it also discovered several cases of meter tampering and bypass, line taps and direct connections. Among these cases of theft were several high-profile customers and business places.

A powerful anti-drug lobby has added its voice to the chorus for a ban on lighting up in public spaces, even as smokers wait for a few more hours to know how much more they will pay for cigarettes.

The call came from Victor Roach, president of the International Commis-sion for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (ICPA) - Caribbean Bloc.

"I call upon the govern-ments of the region to introduce laws to ban smoking in public buildings and also to prevent young people from being able to purchase alcohol and tobacco as a practice," said Roach.

Fight for health

"The fight against drugs is the fight against health problems, crime, poverty, human rights and the extents to which we are able to do battle with drugs is the extent to which we can alleviate a number of burdens to the resources of our economies and the productivity of the people in this region and country," Roach said.

The anti-smoking lobbyist was speaking at the launch of the Jamaica chapter of ICPA at the Northern Caribbean University Gymnatorium yesterday.

Smokers now pay between $15 and $20 for each cigarette and between $250 and $400 for each 20-pack. But those prices will be hiked after changes in the tax structure announced by Finance Minister Audley Shaw in his Budget Debate presentation last Thursday.

Students using drugs

Michael Tucker, execu-tive director of the National Council on Drug Abuse, in his address, cited the 2006 National School Survey done in 70 schools across Jamaica with students between the ages 11 and 17, which found that over 70 per cent had used alcohol, one-third had used tobacco, 25 per cent ganja, three per cent crack cocaine (which includes seasoned spliff - a mixture of ganja and cocaine), 33 per cent showed the use of alcohol before the age of 10.

"We need to start to speak to young people from they are in kindergarten about what is a good or a bad drug," said Tucker. "As they age and get more mature, construct the message and programme in a way that there is a constant infusion of information about drugs and drug abuse throughout their school life."

Several European nations, including France most recently, have enforced smoking bans in public places due to health concerns about the dangers of second-hand smoke.

A feud between men from Southside and Tel-Aviv in Central Kingston is said to be the cause of a brazen display of terror which started in a section of downtown Kingston, ended on Gold Street and reportedly left 12 persons, including a baby, nursing gunshot wounds.

Reports are that shortly after 4 p.m., gunmen went behind the Pearnel Charles Arcade and opened fire on several persons who were inside.

They then reportedly continued on to Church Street, where they fired shots wildly before heading to Gold Street in Central Kingston where they yet again sprayed bullets.

mediazone learnt that men from Southside and Tel-Aviv are currently at odds as there is currently a move for both communities to operate under 'one order', a move which is not welcomed by many

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator! !!
This is interesting.
After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose c****ined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes. But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit.It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.
Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates *lo** glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the *lo** and so helps in cases of anemia.

*lo** Pressure: This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat *lo** pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of *lo** pressure and stroke.
Brain Power: 200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest
ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted *lo** sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep *lo** sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at wor k leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our *lo** sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be rebalanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

PS: Bananas must be the reason monkeys are so happy all the time! I will add one here; want a quick shine on our shoes?? Take the INSIDE of the banana skin, and rub directly on the shoe...polish with dry cloth. Amazing fruit!

Blame the fool in the mirror

There is a saying, 'If something looks too good to be true, then it usually is'. Cash Plus seemed like something too good to be true to me when I first heard about it, so I did what any rational person would do: I asked questions.

I was in St Maarten and seeking to find ways to invest a little money when I first heard about the investment scheme, so I checked the Internet and I talked to people and then I spoke to my sister, Opal, my own personal banker and financial guru. I am so glad I listened to her advice.

She told me that Cash Plus was a pyramid scheme that was bound to collapse. It was just a matter of time. She also told me that the banks were not out to get Carlos Hill, but that the scheme was unregulated and that banks were just complying with the laws of the land.

So, here is where I get a little confused. If I could do this, why didn't anybody else? Why didn't those who invested their money in Cash Plus do the same?

Valuable research

I found out that Hill had been jailed for similar schemes in the United States. I read that pyramid schemes have a limited life span and I also learned that you can never know when the bottom is going to drop out of the barrel. So, why would I then go ahead and put my money into this extremely risky venture? The way I see it, a fool and his money shall surely part', and that is what is happening here.

Sure, I believe that Government could have done more to protect people. They could have set the Financial Services Commission on Cash Plus when it just started up operations, they could have investigated Carlos Hill and shut him down when they found out about his past breaches. There are many other things they could have done, but they didn't.

However, I can't say I was surprised because the one thing I know about the PNP is that they may have claimed to put people first, but that is all it is - a claim. To be fair Omar Davies, former Minister of Finance, did warn people about investing their hard-earned money in these schemes, but I find people have selective hearing when it comes to heeding things the Government says. I also find that when they fail to heed the advice and get burned, they expect to be bailed out.

In any event, the people who were putting in their money needed to have exercised a greater sense of responsibility. I mean, Govern-ment doesn't need to tell you to put burglar bars on your home, and they don't need to tell you to make sure you don't leave your bank book lying carelessly around. These are things you should already know. So, in essence, those who got burned by Cash Plus really don't have anyone to blame but themselves.

Some people I hear griping on radio and all over have admitted that they had more than $1 million invested in the scheme and word on the street is that one guy had more than $40 million in Cash Plus. Now tell me, if you have $40 million to spare, why do you need Cash Plus? What about Jamaica Money Market Brokers, Dehring Bunting and Golding or Capital and Credit? Aren't they capable of turning over that kind of money fast enough to make it worth your while?

We have to stop this thing of only living for today, because as much as we would like to believe that tomorrow is not certain, it still comes, and we have to prepare for it. Investing in hare-brained schemes in which you are more likely to lose your shirt than becoming wealthy does not, with any certainty, prepare you for the eventuality of what happens next, and that is the harsh reality that Cash Plus' clients are living with now. And, when you're all looking for someone to blame, trying looking in the mirror first.
Bounty Killer, whose "Deadly Alliance"-tour has been under siege from gays in Europe, rescued his Vienna concert at the 11th hour when his booking agent found new venue, a discotheque, for his performance which had been slated for last night, April 10th.

Bounty_Killer.jpgThe Vienna Green Party, in a press release, claimed that the singer was originally set to perform on Thursday at the Vienna Volksgarten, however the concert was cancelled by the venue following a public outcry over some of the singers lyrics.

The deejay found a new location for the concert, a discotheque, according to the Vienna Green Party. The Greens, which consists of Austrian left wing politicians, have been leading the vocal campaign against the deejays April 10 concert. In the meantime, the booking agent in Vienna issued a statement that "only less than 5% of Bounty Killers lyrics contain a homophobic message" and therefore they see no reason to cancel the show.

The gays have also threatened to sue Amazon.de and Amazon.com for  Bounty Killers albums and albums of other Jamaican acts containing homophobic lyrics.

Bounty Killer, the leader of the Alliance in Jamaica, is known for several songs, most of which do not contain homophobic content, dancehall gems like Book Book Book, Poor People Fed Up, and Worthless Bwoy. However, he may be best known internationally for his guest vocal on No Doubt's pop-funk hit Hey Baby which hit the Billboard charts and earned him a performance at the Super Bowl.

Before dancehall artiste Mavado was the 'it' singjay of dancehall he was a struggling artiste that needed a helping hand. When Mavado came down to the DASECA studios Mavado got the right push into the business.

Mavado was introduced to the DASECA producers by Foota Hype and Razz and Biggy and from the instance he sang his first note DASECA knew he would be big.

"From me hear him sing mi know he was very talented, he has raw talent," DASECA's Craig Harrisingh told Mediazone. "The first time he came with three songs till we told him to go and write more and come back- till he did and now he has like three hundred."

DASECA has produced songs for Mavado such as 'Real McKoy', 'Full Clip' featuring Busy Signal, 'Dreaming', Bad Man Place' featuring Busy Signal, 'Dying' featuring Serani, 'Dem Fear Mi', 'Heartbeat', 'Don't Worry' and a number of the rhythms Mavado has sung on DASECA has helped produce them. Craig said "we turn Mavado into a star, he has grown in terms of his vocal abilities."

According to David Harrisingh, DASECA moulded the artiste vocally and lyrically stating "must of the songs we do wid him people aren't dying in it, we do uplifting songs with him."

Despite the hard times that the artiste experiences in the media such as his recent arrest DASECA still remains good friends with the artiste and takes care of his music to ensure the best productions and not just another song.

Craig told Mediazone, "people give him a hard time, but wen your hot that's how it goes and since him buss he has been very consistent and he sings about a lot of things even now with 'On The Rock' which is different."

A Rookie NYPD cop was busted trying to rob a bank. Here's how the NY Post reported the story:

April 11, 2008 --

A rookie NYPD cop was busted yesterday for an armed bank robbery in Pennsylvania, authorities said.

Christian Torres, 21, a transit officer who lives in Queens, waited outside a Sovereign Bank branch in Muhlenberg Township shortly after 8 a.m., police said.

Torres, who had traded his NYPD uniform for a black suit with a button-down shirt, approached a teller as she arrived for work, police said.

He asked her a question about mortgage rates, but was told to wait until the branch opened.

When another female employee, who had arrived earlier, opened the door from the inside, Torres pulled a gun, forced his way in and demanded the two women take him to the vault, according to court papers.

He allegedly ordered them to take out bills in $20, $50 and $100 denominations and stuff them into a white shopping bag he was carrying.

The cop ran out of the bank with $113,000, prosecutors charged.

A third employee inside the branch pushed a silent alarm.

Muhlenberg police said they arrived at the scene just as Torres was making his getaway.

One of the women pointed him out as he drove away in a black Scion. Cops said its license plate was turned backward.

After a brief chase, police pulled Torres over, and he identified himself as an NYPD officer, they said.

The two tellers were driven past the car and identified him as the robber.

All of the money was recovered and police said they found a loaded gun in Torres' waistband.

The weapon, a 9mm Glock 26, was not his service weapon, authorities said.

Torres was hit with a slew of charges, including, robbery, assault and weapon possession.

District Justice Dean Patton ordered him held in lieu of $500,000 bail at Berks County Prison.

The cop, who joined the NYPD last July, was suspended without pay.

Torres invoked his Fifth Amendment right and did not give a statement to cops, a Muhlenberg police spokesman said.

It wasn't immediately known why he was in the town, which is about 120 miles from the city.

The arrest stunned Torres' neighbors in Richmond Hill.

"I'm shocked. That isn't like him," one resident said. "The cops came by a few times today, and I thought maybe he got into a fight. I can't believe he robbed a bank."

The neighbor said Torres lives alone on the top floor of a two-family house.

He also said Torres had recently broken up with his girlfriend, and didn't appear to have any family.

Torres' MySpace page indicates that he had recently announced his engagement.

The Web page, which had last been accessed a week ago, gave his nickname as "the Law," and listed his current mood as "Wanted."

Accused drug mule gets bail

A St Ann resident charged with breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act after ganja was allegedly found in his luggage at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, was granted bail in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

Yhans Haughton, 24, auto body repairman of Hampton in Runaway Bay, was offered $250,000 bail with one or two sureties, and ordered to report to the Runaway Bay police Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

He is charged with possession, dealing in and attempting to export some 7.5 pounds of ganja that was found in two secret compartments in a flight pack he had checked in.

It is alleged that on March 31, he checked in a flight pack and a Pullman suitcase to board an Air Jamaica flight to Nassau, Bahamas. The flight pack was taken to the boarding gate and searched in his presence.

Eight packages containing vegetable matter resembling ganja were allegedly found. Under caution, he pleaded with the officer to give him a chance.

Defence attorney Adrian Dayes in a bail application told the court that his client got the flight pack to deliver to someone and that Haughton had no knowledge that it contained contraband.

The accused man is scheduled to return to court on May 15. In the meantime, the court is awaiting several statements and the forensic report to complete the case file.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution asked T.I. the reason for an MTV video crew following him around the night he pled guilty. There is some documentation being done, T.I. said. We're actually in the middle of negotiating exactly what it would take to be able to have that type of access to my life. But I think it's something that needs to be out there on a broad spectrum.

Cop asks for info on Cash Plus

April 12, 2008

Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of serious and organised crime, Les Green yesterday made an appeal for persons having information in relation to any assets or property linked to the troubled Cash Plus Limited investment scheme to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud now surrounding the company.

The appeal was made at yesterday's press conference held at the office of the commissioner of police hours after former Cash Plus director, Carlos Hill, was arrested at his Norbrook Drive residence.

Public appeal

Green said: "I appeal for any persons with knowledge of any property of assets that may have been transferred, especially more recently to provide us with information." This, he said, would assist the police in identifying "where those assets may be in order that the depositors through Cash Plus Limited and through the receiver may be able to receive the amounts of money that may be able to be identified and recovered on their behalf."

He said overseas inquiries would be made during the course of the current investigation to trace assets, additional transfer of funds and other financial activities between Cash Plus Limited and depositors.

The officer said the police have been receiving numerous complaints from Cash Plus depositors alleging fraud on the part of the informal investment scheme.

Subsequent to these allegations, he said, "investigations revealed that 'the financial viability of Carlos Hill and his ability to repay that money was not available to be provided.'
