Suge Knight's legendary hip-hop label, Death Row Records, was auctioned and sold on Wednesday for $24 million.
According to TMZ, Global Music Group's president Susan Berg shelled out the cash, putting her in control of all the recordings by Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre during their stay at the label. And as a bonus her purchase also includes an additional 20 unreleased Pac tracks.
Considered one of the most infamous labels from the mid-90's, former owner Suge Knight was forced by a bankruptcy court judge to auction all assets to the highest bidder.
The troubles began in 2005 when Knight was ordered to pay $107 million to former partner Lydia Harris who accused him owing her profits after she was forced out of the label. This caused Suge to file for bankruptcy in April 2006 when Suge filed for federal bankruptcy.
Summer has barely begun yet there is a set of artistes that seem to have already taken the spotlight, whether their songs are constantly being played at parties or even in the stereo system of a motor vehicle.
For the likes of Serani, Mavado and Vybz Kartel, it seems there's no stopping them.
Producer and singer, Serani has been on a constant rise since entering the industry, first showing his talent as a singer in his collaboration with Mavado for the single Dying.
He then went on to make a mega hit single with Bugle in DOH, and since then, has made an array of tunes, including Stinkin Rich, She Loves Me and Not A Badman, each of which has found success, receiving regular airplay.
Two album dealSerani says he is currently working on his two album deal in Japan, as Japan is one of the few places where people still buy cd's and is a major market for dancehall.
The first of two, an 11 track album, is entitled Serani - The Future and was released exclusively in Japan in May. It features all of the hits that have rapidly driven Serani up the dancehall ranks, such as DOH featuring Bugle, Stinkin' Rich and She Loves Me.
When contacted, Serani said, "I've been working on singles and videos, especially for the ladies and songs of positivity as associated with DASECA."
Some of the singles that Serani said fans can look out for this summer from him include, No Game, on the Unfinished Business Rhythm, Too Much and Crying For Peace, on the Daseca Label.
Vybz Kartel has also been carrying a certain flare with him for a while now, as he has always found favour with his fans.
He has gone with his word, however, to tone down the violence within his lyrics, as he recently added some non-violent songs to his repertoire like Trailer Load A Money and Money Fi Spend.
Last but surely not least is the Gully Gad, who has had so many achievements and is consistently on the rise.
Olympic supportRecently he was commissioned by Nike to appear in an EPK (Electronic Promotional Kit) and the original track Faster Than A Bullet for Asafa Powell to support the Jamaican effort at the 2008 Olympics. The company also made four sneakers to help promote the campaign, with Mavado, Asafa, Shane Brown and Julian (his manager) each getting one.
His single On The Rock caught the attention of rap mega star Jay-Z who has done an unsolicited remix to it, and also requested for the artiste to perform the single at Madison Square Gardens in New York with him.
Mavado, will also make his film debut this summer when he will appear in What Goes Around, directed by Steve 'Tehut-Nine' McAlpin. The singjay will be playing the role of a sinister character known only as 'Gully God'. Mavado will join other dancehall artistes such as Harry Toddler, Ninja Man, Beenie Man and others who will appear in the movie.
With so much already achieved, the expectations his fans have of him for this summer will be even greater.
Mavado is definitely one of the artistes who much focus and attention will be on for the summer. He recently did a track with Bugle entitled Set Me Free, and Overcome, positive songs of course, another move seen in the artistes' efforts to stay away from the negativity in an attempt to help decrease the level of crime and violence in JamaicaThis is undoubtedly one of the most interesting e-mails I've ever received. Don't know about you, but right about now, I'm counting my blessings!
SOCCER superstar Cristiano Ronaldo DOES want to stay at Man United, his big sister revealed last night.
Boutique owner Elma Aveiro said the Old Trafford idol had told family and friends he would resist the temptation to join Spanish giants Real Madrid, who have offered to break the bank to sign him.
The Portuguese heros heart belonged to the Red Devils, she said.
Elma added: Cristiano wants to keep playing at Manchester United. Real Madrid keep making very strong advances for him. There is a lot of speculation in the newspapers all the time about where he will go and what he is doing.
But we know who he really is and what he is really up to. He wants to stay at United.
The 34-year-old added: As long as he is happy where he plays, we dont mind where he is. We are a very close, simple family and we are very happy we have a brother like him.
Elma spoke to The Sun at her upmarket CR7 shop in Funchal, Madeira, which Ronaldo bought for her two years ago.
She said: Lots of people come into the shop asking about whether hes going, but I dont know for sure. He tells me he likes Manchester United and everybody here wants him to stay there.
A long-time family friend, who did not want to be named, said: Cristiano likes to play for Manchester United.
He has a private plane to get to see his mother or his girlfriend so it is not a problem for him to stay in Manchester.
Ronaldo, 23, and girlfriend Nereida Gallardo, 24, have been soaking up the sun in Italy.
Irrespective of what most of you 'erudite' individuals think, the language is something that's entrenched in our culture; a fusion a language our ancestors created in order to communicate with the English natives. So why is it suddenly not good enough?
Despite the many poets and writers namely, Louise Bennett-Coverly and Owen 'Blakka' Ellis, who use(d) the language as a conduit to address social issues, why is it still seen as a mere indication of social status or 'dunceness'? Why do most alleged 'authority figures' (most of whom, shockingly know NOTHING of subject verb agreement, and refuse to shield themselves from the wretched horror of trying to speak 'English') attempt to chastise those of us who can seamlessly speak and fuse the two? Isn't it an indication of how fluid we are as reporters and writers? What is the point of writing it in Patois? Going against the proverbial grain. REVOLTING. A 17-year-old youth, who has been before the court four times since 2008 for ganja related charges, was remanded in the Yallahs Resident Magistrate's Court on his fifth appearance, Thursday.
Dwayne Sterling of Aeolous Valley, St Thomas, was brought before the court on a ganja possession charge. The court was told that Sterling was seen walking along the Norris main road in the parish on Tuesday, June 24, when his action arouse the suspicion of the police who was on routine patrol. He was stopped and a knapsack he was carrying was searched and a quantity of ganja was taken from him.
In court, Sterling told RM Carol DaCosta that he was given the bag and its content and asked to deliver it to someone who would give him something in return. In his statement, Corporal Lancelot Armsby, the arresting officer told the court that Sterling had faced the court on four separate occasions since January 2008. And on each time, the statement read, he managed to receive a slap on the wrist.
RM DaCosta then ordered a social inquiry report on Sterling and told him that until that time when the report is ready, she will make sure he doesn't carry anymore contraband as his behaviour is becoming a habit. Sterling is to return to court on July 3 when a trial date will be set.A CRAZED woman stabbed a pregnant mum to death then cut open her w**** to steal her baby boy.

There has been a bit of talk here and there about the possibility of a PSP branded phone. Thus far there hasnt been a whole lot of official word coming from Sony on the subject, however, Marketing Week has a little bit of insight on the subject
They have sources that have led them to believe that the relationship between Sony and Ericsson has become a bit strained. They have also learned their lesson with handing over the Walkman brand name to Ericsson so its doubtful they will let them get their hands on the PSP name.
They believe that the phone could be released in time for Christmas of 2009. Analysts have said that it should be fairly easy to convert the PSP into a phone, since it already has Wi-Fi.

Dear readers,
D.D., 30, is a woman who is very concerned about her skin. She is of light complexion and a few years ago noticed a dark patch on her face which seemed to be spreading. She visited a dermatologist (skin specialist) who told her that the spot was a type of skin cancer. It was excised. Recently another dark area of skin was removed from near her eyelid and she was told that this also was skin cancer. D.D is very worried about this tendency towards skin cancer and asks LIFELINE how best to prevent recurrences of skin cancer. She applies sunscreen regularly to her face and to areas exposed to the sunlight but she is concerned that this might not be enough to keep the cancer away.
Commonly occurringSkin cancer is actually a very commonly occurring cancer but all skin cancers are not the same. Skin cancer is characterised by the uncontrolled growth of various cells which originate in the outer layer of skin, the epidermis.
The most common types of skin cancer are:
Basal cell carcinoma
Melanoma
Squamous cell cancersSquamous cell cancers are usually located in the middle of the epidermis (outer layer of skin). These cancers are also strongly linked to sun exposure but can sometimes also be found on the tongue and on the inside of the mouth. These cancers begin as scaly, reddish bumps which grow large and appear as warts. As this cancer grows an ulcer forms in the middle of the swelling, and the cancer grows downwards, invading deeper skin layers. Squamous cell carcinoma also does not tend to spread to distant parts of the body but because much of it is hidden under the skin, it is often more extensive than it visually appears to be and is therefore a more serious cancer to contract than the basal cell cancer.
Basal cell cancersBasal cell cancers occur very near the skin surface. They comprise 75 per cent of all skin cancers. They often appear as a firm patch of skin which tend to ulcerate and then form a scab. The area tends to go through cycles of bleeding and healing. Basal cell cancers tend to grow very slowly and to spread only to adjacent tissues and not to distant parts of the body. Basal cell cancers are highly associated with over-exposure to sunlight.
MelanomaThe third type of skin cancer, the melanoma, is the most feared of the skin cancers, with good reason. Although only five per cent of skin cancers are melanomas, in 75 per cent of deaths related to skin cancers, melanomas are the cause. The melanoma originates from the melanocytes which are the pigment producing cells in the body. These cells are deeply located within the epidermis, near the dermis, where the hair follicles are located.
The melanomas grow rapidly, invade nearby tissues and also spread through the *lo** to other parts of the body forming new tumours at new sites. Melanomas are found both on sun exposed and covered areas of the body. Often they initially look like a mole and can be black, brown, red or white in colour. Another even more rare type of skin cancer is kaposis sarcoma which is seen often in association with AIDS.
To prevent skin cancer - be careful about sun exposure. Avoid being outdoors in the hot sun and always apply sunscreen to all uncovered areas of skin. Choose a product which protects against both UVA and UVB rays and has a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or over. When in the sun, wear a broad brimmed hat to shield the face. If the person has reason to be cautious about this cancer then apply sunscreen to the entire body before putting on clothes and wear loose, light coloured clothing to cover the chest, arms and legs as much as possible.
Remember, sun damage is cumulative so even if the effects of the sun on the skin are not immediately apparent, they may show up at a later date, in the form of a skin cancer. D.D. seems to have basal cell cancer on her face.
Although this needs to be watched closely and all precautions taken to avoid the effects of the skin and recurrence of the cancer, this cancer is not so serious and is probably not life-threatening. She should have this diagnosis confirmed with her dermatologist. She should visit her dermatologist at least twice a year for a check up.

Milk on Ity's lips at Hilton
Ity (right) and Fancy Cat. - file
When it was time for comedic duo Ity and Fancy Cat to perform at Sunday's 'Limitless Laughter', at first only Cat came out. He took out his cellphone, told the audience that "everybody deh pon video" and turned back to the curtain screening off the stage entrance, pushing his phone through to 'record'.
"Go deh Ity. Wipe off yu mout'," he directed his unseen partner. "Tek out oonu phone. Me soon Bluetooth it," he turned and said to a chuckling audience.
Then Ity was out with a glass in his hand, and the audience roared as he stood and smiled and said nothing. When they calmed down, Fancy cat asked what he was drinking. "Milk!" Ity announced and the roars of laughter were even louder.
Chambers
The murder of the controversial chairman of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, (JUTC), Douglas Chambers, yesterday, sent shockwaves through the island.
Chambers was shot outside of the Spanish Town Depot in St Catherine.
According to police reports, some time after 5 p.m. Chambers took a break from a meeting with representatives from the University and Allied Workers Union (UAWU) and the JUTC.
The police said he went to the entrance of the depot to buy cigarettes when he was approached by a group of men who fired shots at him.
Chambers received multiple gunshot wounds all over his body and died on the spot.
As news of the murder spread, several Government ministers headed by Prime Minister Bruce Golding rushed to the scene.
By then, a large crowd had gathered there. Up to news time, the police had not established a motive for the murder.
Chambers was appointed chairman of the JUTC by the Jamaica Labour Party Administration in October last year to help to cut the huge losses at the government-owned bus company.
Major losses
The JUTC has been losing up to $100 million a month.
Chambers, who was a chartered accountant, took leave from his accounting firm Chambers, Henry and Partners to turn the JUTC into an efficient company.
Transport Minister Mike Henry, who also visited the murder scene, said he was shocked by the incident.
"If anyone feels that this is the way to deal with a situation when a man who is trying to do an honest and honourable job on behalf of the Government, then it is certainly a sad day for the country," said the minister, adding that Chambers' tenure as chairman was coming to end.
The Opposition also expressed horror at the killing of the JUTC chairman.
In a statement, Opposition Spokesman on Transport Robert Pickersgill said the People's National Party condemned, in the strongest possible terms, the dastardly and cowardly act.
He said the incident was a manifestation of the criminality that had overtaken the country and which seemed to be impacting persons at all levels of the society.
Cooperate fully
Pickersgill has urged anyone with information about the circumstances of the killing to provide help to the police and to cooperate fully with the investigations.
Lambert Brown, president of the UAWU also denounced the killing.
"The UAWU absolutely condemns the murder of the chairman of the board. It is a totally unnecessary act, we were in a meeting and we were making excellent progress," said Brown.
"He left the meeting to come back to us in 15 minutes with some information. Apparently he went outside the compound and was fatally shot, " Brown added.
The JUTC has been in turmoil for the past few weeks after several redundancy exercises and major restructuring.
Reports had also emerged of an acrimonious relationship between Chambers and workers.
Spanish Town
A medical doctor and another man who are both charged with buggery were granted bail when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.
It took great effort from the defence to secure bail for the doctor as the crown opposed his bail saying he is charged with a another sexual offence currently before the Corporate Area RM Court.
The RM told the accused man's lawyer that sections of the Bail Act would be applied as the doctor has been charged with a crime while on bail for a similiar offence.
The lawyer, however, while conceding that the RM was right, told the court that his client has always turned up for his cases and will continue to do so. Following this, he was granted $250,000 bail. The co-accused was granted $150,000 bail. Both men will return to court on July 18.
Allegations are that on June 26, a 23-year-old man was lured to an apartment occupied by the doctor and four others. There, the court heard, he was held at gunpoint and all four took turns, sexually molesting him. He was also attacked the following day and had to run.
Police had originally held four men but two were later released. The police say they are searching for two other men in connection with the incident.

Girlie charged for molesting a boy
Girlie, Girlie, Girlie, what's wrong with you? Everybody wants to know. Everyone remembers Lascell "Girlie" Parnell for his role in many Jamaican plays, where he always plays the roles of females. Well it seems this has affected him psychologically as he was charged and arrested for sexually molesting a teenage boy in Brooklyn. It's like he has forgotten that this is real life not a play and he is a man not a woman.
It was reported by the police that on May 28, 2008 the teenage boy's mother reported that "Girlie" allegedly molested her son. The police carried out their investigation and he was arrested. On May 29, 2008 he was charged and arrested for the allegations. He was later released on a US$7500 bail with surety.
This was not all, it only gets worse. Later "Girlie" was arrested again for child pornography. Has this man (male or female) lost his mind? There is no evidence of "Girlie" being formally charged with these additional offences. If he is, he will be deported back to Jamaica. This is not good. He better not be involved and stays where he is. He will need another lawyer as well, because it is rumoured that his original lawyer "bailed on him".
he entire world stood up and took notice when the Prime Minister of Jamaica was being interviewed in England when a very important question was asked of him if gays could be in the cabinet. The ever, cool, ever suave PM responded, "Sure they can be in the Cabinet; not mine."
When the interviewer pressed home the point, maybe wanting Bruce to back down by asking "But do you want to live in a Jamaica where they can be and they should be and it would be entirely natural for them to be so?" Big up to the PM when he answered in no uncertain terms "I do not know that that is necessarily the direction in which I want my country to go."
There have been a lot of back and forth debates about equality when it comes to gays, but while I do not condone the ill-treatment and cruel acts meted out to them, in fact I totally hit out against it. At the end of the day, they are all humans too. But I draw the line at having them in the cabinet. These are people who are involved in guiding the country and having a say in the laws of the land. How can we ask them to make certain moral decisions when their lifestyle totally belies what they will be representing?
For all we know there may already be a few gays in the cabinet, and if they are, they are taking great pains to keep it totally locked up in the closet. But coming out and advocating for the rights to be recognized as a legal couple, flaunting an immoral lifestyle, influencing our children, maybe even corrupting them...that stretching acceptance way too far.
Allowing them in the cabinet is will be just the first step in making them more comfortable, soon, you will see them on the bus holding hands and acting like the regular couples, booking church halls so they can legally tie the knot.
On the other hand, gays might not be in the cabinet, but some of the ads are advertising Jamaica as a gay and funny place to be as hotels in their quest to stay on top of the market are actually encouraging them to 'cool out' and enjoy the sea and sand in Jamaica. The love of money can indeed be the root of all evil. Just like the PM was willing to make a stand, coming down with the wrath of the gay rights group, hoteliers too must decide is this is way they want to go. What if all the straight people decide to take offence and switch?
It's a non stop battle and sadly enough all we can do at the end of the day is debate this and that, but unless a body come forward and fight as hard for straight people as much as the gay rights group are fighting, I see no hope for Jamaica, nor its dancehall acts as they are beaten down in the ground. The latest is that gay rights group from Canada gave Jamaica an ultimatum to 'be more gay friendly' or they will be pressuring business people to boycott us.
They are willing to go all out and do that...which group will come forward to hit back at them? Or will we eventually be seeing a mixed cabinet of straight and gays?
One of the most wanted men in the East Kingston Police Division was held by Cuban authorities last weekend on a boat with three other men.
Dwayne Thomas, otherwise called 'Christopher Thomas' and 'Charlie Wapp', is now in police custody and is being questioned.
According to a release from the police, Thomas is wanted by the Kingston East police for absconding bail, and a number of murders and shootings, especially in the Rockfort Area of Kingston. One of the murders that police wanted to question Thomas about was that of Roger Gardener, 19, who was chased into a yard along Glasspole Avenue in Rockfort and shot several times. This incident occurred in April.
Thomas was taken into custody by Cuban police authorities after he was found at sea in Cuban territorial waters last weekend, along with three other men.
The release further said that two of the three men captured with Thomas are Jamaicans, who are also wanted for a number of crimes, while the other is a Bahamian, who was processed by Cuban police and sent home.
Thomas and the other two Jamaicans returned to the island on Monday, June 30.Head of the Super Plus chain of supermarkets, Wayne Chen, is dismissing reports that the organisation is losing money because of a boycott initiated by disgruntled Cash Plus investors.
Since the fall of the alternative investment scheme, several angry investors have encouraged a ban on the supermarket. Several emails to this effect have also been circulated. The investors, who blame the commercial banks for Cash Plus' demise, say Chen, who is the chairman of the National Commercial Bank Insurance Company Limited, should be 'punished'.
One section of an email encouraging the boycott said, "In response to NCB's blatant and malicious action against Olint, World Wise and Cash Plus, let us as investors, who are most affected, show our support and solidarity with these institutions by closing all our NCB accounts and stop shopping at Super Plus. Let us give them a taste of their own medicine."
'Dem a fight poor people'One investor, who has since stopped shopping at the chain, told THE STAR, "I am not giving them my money. Dem fight out di system dat was helping poor people and dem behaving like a dem alone mus have money."
When THE STAR visited a few of the supermarkets, some customers said they noticed a drop in the number of shoppers. Some shoppers in the Portmore Pines branch attributed this to the opening of newer supermarkets in the area, while others believed it was evidence that a boycott was in effect. One such customer told THE STAR, "I really notice that it is emptier in here and I think it does have something to do with the Cash Plus. People are upset and they are serious."
Some customers also complained about the appearance of the supermarkets, pointing to several shelves that were almost empty. When THE STAR visited the Liguanea branch, one customer was heard commenting to another, "No man, dem look like dem a go inna receivership. Dem nuh have nuttin in ya." The shopper was standing in the snack aisle, which had very little in stock.
Chen said he had heard the reports of the ban, but did not see the company's profits being affected by it. He said, "If it is [affecting our sales], it's not measurable. That is foolishness. I don't know where that is coming from. Why are we being tied to Cash Plus? Why are people who put their money in Cash Plus now blaming Super Plus for their demise?"
Of the complaints about understocked shelves, he said the company has "seven million dollars worth of goods in the inventory", and said that stocking a small amount of goods was deliberate in some instances. He added, "Some stores, like Portmore Pines, have a high turnover rate so they have a challenge keeping goods on the shelf. We at Super Plus are fine."
Western Bureau:
Members of the Montego Bay business and political communities have expressed shock and disgust at the brazen early-morning shooting of former Mayor of Montego Bay and businessman Shalman Scott.
Scott, a noted political analyst and trade unionist, was shot by unknown assailants in the upscale neighbourhood of Carol Gardens, St James.
He became mayor of Montego Bay in 1981 and served for five years.
Newly installed president of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry and noted political analyst, Lloyd B. Smith, condemned the shooting and urged residents of Montego Bay to not surrender to the criminal onslaught now plaguing the city.
Can't surrender
"No one is safe, but it does not make sense to hide in fear. Maybe this is what the criminals want, for us to surrender. But we can't surrender, we have to stand up and fight to the last drop," Smith told The Gleaner.
In addition, Smith urged the police to do more work in gathering intelligence and rely less on mere speculation.
He argued that the police need to be more proactive in their intelligence gathering.
"When these things happen, all types of speculation comes to the forefront and that's not good in itself," he said.
Mayor of Montego Bay Charles Sinclair described the incident as "most unfortunate" as Scott was "someone who has contributed to Montego Bay and the parish of St James as a political representative and educational lecturer".
According to early reports, Scott was out jogging when he was attacked. It was reported that he was attacked by men travelling in a white Toyota Corolla motor car. The men opened fire at him. He managed to escape the first volley of shots, but was shot in the thighs and buttocks as he fled.
Commanding officer in charge of St James, Superintendent Steve McGregor, said the investigation into the latest shooting incident was moving swiftly.
Death threats
Yesterday's incident was not the first attempt on Scott's life as police confirmed his home was fireb****ed six months ago. He has also received numerous death threats.
Up to press time, Scott was said to be in stable condition at the Cornwall Regional Hospital where he was under-going treatment.
Three teenagers are now booked to face the court after being charged in connection with a fatal shooting incident in Clarendon last month.
A 15-year-old and two 16-year-olds were charged on Tuesday by the Clarendon police for the murder of 20-year-old Ryan 'Rambo' Robinson in Efforville in the parish.
According to police reports, Robinson was at home with his family on June 5 when gunmen entered and opened fire. Robinson was fatally shot and died on the spot while his mother, sister and brother were shot and injured.
Following investigations, the teens were charged with murder, illegal possession of firearm and three counts of wounding with intent. All three are to appear in court today.I am sorry all my decent folks, I got a bit depressed yesterday, I followed one of my girlfriends who wanted to test drive the new Benz and all these things, and she didnt like them, so went over to the Audi dealership, and I fell in love with the 2008 Audi A6, mi go test drive it and mi head out to airport road and then the salesperson showed me the tiptonic feature, and mi just a change gear wid mi hand on the steering wheel, mi just fall in love same time, and then him go hit me with the 5.6 million price, mi head start hurt me same time, not to mention the Q7 at 9 million, nuh house price that people? A RIOT between British and Muslim inmates broke out in a high-security prison after an al-Qaeda terrorists cell was torched.
Algerian Kamel Bourgass, 34 serving life for murdering Special Branch detective Stephen Oake, 40 escaped injury in the blaze.
But then, in retaliation, a British prisoner was slashed across the cheek with a homemade knife as he walked along a corridor.
Fire ... jail
NNP
When pals heard, fighting between around 60 British and Muslim prisoners broke out at Frankland Prison, Co Durham.
Staff used batons as they tried to separate cons exchanging blows and kicks.
More officers raced from other wings to help and the riot was eventually brought under control.
Four staff one with a broken arm and two lags needed hospital treatment.
A prison source said: It was a free-for-all. They were really going at it, dozens and dozens of them pummelling each other. That place is a powder keg, this has been brewing for ages and officers fear it will kick off again.
Steve Cox, of the Prison Officers Association, said: There is an ongoing problem at Frankland borne out of the fact that terrorist prisoners are housed with other prisoners.
They're one of those modern day scourges in Toronto neighbourhoods, potentially putting families, children and those nearby in danger.
And as of now, there are 63 fewer of them.
Toronto Police have confirmed they launched a massive offensive early Thursday morning targeting marijuana grow ops across the GTA. Details of the secret sweeps have just emerged and judging by the bra** being assembled to tell you about it, it's likely to have made a significant dent in the supply on the streets.
Police don't often break out the top cops to outline an undercover event but they're having Chief Bill Blair front an afternoon press conference to explain what they found. The raids were a joint effort with York Regional Police.
Sources now say they're not connected to last week's massive "Project Blackhawk," which lead to major gun seizures, 38 arrests and more than 400 charges.
The details are expected after 3:30pm at Police Headquarters. Check back for the very latest.
How To Spot A Marijuana Grow Op In Your Neighbourhood
The homes look just like any other on the block. And you may not even be aware something nefarious is going on behind those closed doors. But there are some things that may raise your suspicions and all it takes is a sharp eye and a willingness to report your concerns to cops to make it stop. Here are some common signs of a grow op:
After weeks of speculating over which international acts will be performing, for the generally vibrant Montego Bay crowd; Grammy winning Hip-Hop entertainer T-Pain has been added to the versatile lineup for Reggae Sumfest 2008. T-Pain is scheduled to co-headline the final night of the festival along with the internationally recognized reggae legend, Beres Hammond.
Tired of the generic sound of music played constantly on the radio, T-Pain was inspired to create an album that would c****ine the likes of both Hip-Hop and R&B; the result, the smash hit singles "I'm Sprung" and the lyrically creative track "I'm In Love with a Stripper". Released from the album "Rappa Ternt Sanga". "I'm Sprung" peaked at number eight on the Billboard Top 100 Charts, helping the newly acclaimed solo artist sell over 800,000 copies of his work. The track's remix with Vybz Kartel boosted his airplay status in Jamaica and left many youngsters wanting more. Since then, T-Pain has done everything but fallen off the music scene, appearing on a number of chart topping hits including his Grammy winning collaboration with Rapper Kanye West entitled "Good Life".
I read with great shame and embarra**ment the other day how they robbed the missionaries at Salvation Army. But to tell the truth I am not surprised. The only way crime is going to stop is unless the mothers and the baby mothers come together and start trying to make a difference.
These men have to rest their heads somewhere, they have to eat somewhere, they have someone in their lives that they 'check for'. But the simple truth is, women are enjoying the profits of crime and have no real need to make a difference. They are contented to spend the *lo** money, wash the *lo**y clothes, feast on the stolen goods, wear the stolen bling bling and hype up on their friends in the process. Some will even threaten you that they are going to "meck mi man buss yuh face". They take pride in being with a bad man. And at the end of the day they don't give a damn about the family that's left crying being because the bread winner was gunned down. They don't care about those who are left hungry, because the last money for food was robbed on the bus. Yet they want you to care when police gun down the culprit, then they come out and demonstrate and beg for justice.
COPS probing the murders of two students tied up, tortured and stabbed nearly 250 times told last night how the bedsit where they died was burgled six days earlier.
Pals Laurent Bonomo and Gabriel Ferez, both from France, died in a *lo**bath lasting several hours before the flat was set on fire.
Police suspect a robber broke in and went berserk.
And yesterday it emerged that the one-bed home, where 23-year-old Laurent lived, was broken into less than a week before.
Officers say there was no sign of forced entry before Sundays killings, meaning the culprit might also have stolen door keys if he was behind the earlier raid.
That time Laurent disturbed the intruder and the man fled cl**tching his laptop.
Murder cop DCI Mick Duthie asked: Was this a follow-up visit by a burglar?
Engaged Mary and Laurent
The flat was broken into some days before and whether it was broken into again is a line of inquiry we are following up.
Brilliant students Gabriel and Laurent nicknamed Lolo arrived in Britain in May and were on postgraduate projects at Londons Imperial College.
Gabriel, 23, is thought to have travelled to Laurents home in New Cross, South East London, at some point on Sunday.
Police said the pair played computer games and watched the Euro 2008 final in the evening before they were murdered.
They were gagged, then trussed up separately before being knifed a horrifying 243 times.
Laurent was stabbed 196 times 80 in the back.
Detectives said around 100 wounds were inflicted AFTER he was dead.
Gabriel, who had been staying with friends in Thornton Heath, South London, suffered around 50 injuries, including stab wounds.
The bedsit was then set ablaze to destroy forensic evidence.
Shocked police described the aftermath as like a scene from a Tarantino movie.
DCI Duthie said: It was a frenzied, horrific and brutal attack. Everybody working on this case was deeply shocked.
Ive never seen anything like it they were covered in stab wounds. The level of violence was horrendous. I imagine it took some considerable amount of time to inflict that number of injuries.
'My love' ... fiancee Mary had spoken
to Laurent on day of killing
The cause of death was multiple injuries to the head, neck and back. We need to urgently catch whoever has done this.
A senior source said: This was like a scene from a Tarantino gangster film. But these victims were not criminals.
These were two talented and innocent young men who had no history of criminality.
US director Quentin Tarantino is known for brutal scenes in hit movies such as 1992s Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction in 1994.
Fire crews rushed to the bedsit after a massive explosion at 10pm.
It was only after the flames were extinguished that the bodies were discovered.
A white male was seen by a resident running from the house.
And yesterday a neighbour insisted the killings were related to the previous weeks burglary, when the raider climbed in through an open window.
Henry Chuks, 32, said: I know the flat had been burgled the previous week.
I spoke to the police officers after they left the scene. The tenant was in the shower and he disturbed the intruder. I think it has to be connected.
The students parents came to Britain on Wednesday and yesterday identified their sons bodies before flying home again.
Slaughtered ... Laurent Bonomo, left, found with 196 knife wounds, 80 in back, 100 after he had died, and Gabriel Ferez found with 50 injuries, bound, gagged and torched in pal's home
Laurent, of Velaux, Provence, in the South of France, was engaged to be married and had spoken to fiancee Mary Bertez in the early hours of Sunday.
Gabriel was from Prouzel, in the Somme region of northern France.
The pair met at the Ecole Polytechnique, regarded as the countrys most elite school of engineering. They attended a college in Clermont-Ferrand, central France, and studied biochemistry.
Both were scheduled to return home from London this month.
A spokesman for the college said the pair had walked through their exams with distinction. He added: They were brilliant students with glittering careers ahead of them.
Theres no doubt they were two of the brightest students of their generation. Everybody is absolutely devastated at whats happened.
Fiancee Mary, 23, left a tribute on Laurents Facebook website page, vowing to help cops avenge his violent death.
She wrote: My love, we were always together but unfortunately I wasnt there that evening.
I will never stop thinking about you for a second. I had ten months of a happiness I had never experienced until then.
I will give all the required information to the investigation, my dear, so you can be avenged.
University colleagues said Mary was devastated beyond belief.
Fellow student Antoine Galloux, 23, studied with the murdered pair in France and spoke to them last week. He sobbed: Id no idea London was such a barbaric city.
Gabriel was my best friend. We were extremely close. He was a diligent and hard-working student, and incredibly clever.
None of us can believe what happened to him and Laurent.
Another of Laurents neighbours told last night of a chilling late night incident weeks earlier when she found a huge KNIFE embedded in her bedroom window sill.
The woman, who gave her name only as Shannon, said: I was in bed at midnight when I saw two silhouettes at my window and heard some scratching noises. I shouted at them and they ran off. I pulled back the blinds and saw a 12-inch kitchen knife in the window sill.
Last Sunday when the boys were killed I heard a crack which sounded like a gunshot. I hid by my bed and didnt come out until the police evacuated the building.
Forensic scientist Dr David Holmes called the murders a unique case.
He said: Such barbarism goes beyond some of our worst serial killers. Whoever did it was sending out a message unless it was simply the work of a psychopath.
The Government's impending embrace of ethanol-based fuels is certainly a step in the right direction. With oil reaching stratospheric heights on a daily basis, drivers are feeling the squeeze of high gas prices more than ever. All alternatives have to be explored, and the most obvious ones are to be implemented as soon as the technology becomes available.
Ethanol is a very viable solution, although it does have its drawbacks. The very same sugar cane that is used for many of the products, like sweeteners and alcohol, is now going to be the main ingredient in this volatile mix.
More expensive
Suddenly, these common products are going to become a lot more expensive to purchase for the general public. Most of the stock will go to the production of ethanol, and unless there is a plan to plant a lot more sugar cane, a choice will have to be made.
One of the questions that I have not seen addressed is: will the use of ethanol result in a lowering of prices at the pump, or is it just a hedge against uncertain oil supplies?
The answer to that will soon become apparent, but we must not stop there. The Government must press on with its plans for wind power. This is one source of renewable energy that will never run out. Many of the international companies that are involved in these ventures should be more than willing to set up shop because of the limitless supply and the steady revenue stream that wind power creates. Jamaica must move forward into the 21st century, and freedom from imported oil is one of the ways to do this.
Popular artiste, Buju Banton was voted Most Educational Entertainer at the 2008 International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), held recently in New York. In addition, his award-winning hit song, 'Driver A' is featured on the popular video game 'Grand Theft Auto IV'.
Banton, who is also in the process of completing his roots album Rasta Got Soul was featured on the July cover of Global Rhythm magazine's annual Crucial Reggae issue celebrating Jamaican music and culture.
Writer Wes Orshoski who travelled to Kingston to meet with the icon, says, "If you're profiling a musician, you want him and his music to be relevant and you want that musician to have a tale, one that bounds off the page. Buju is such a musician ... He has a complex, intriguing story, one that continues to unravel a little bit more every few months. As an interview subject, you get a charge just being around him."
A TERRIFIED 93-year-old widow had a heart attack as she was throttled at home by a hammer-wielding robber.
Deaf Mary Crofts was watching TV and didnt hear the thug until he grabbed her.
She struggled with the thug before fainting. Doctors at the hospital where she is recovering say the gran had a heart attack caused by stress.
Mary said yesterday: Im traumatised. I thought he was going to kill me. You are a peaceful citizen all your life and then this happens.
Mary, who has lived in the home in Shiregreen, Sheffield, for 51 years, is haunted about having to return.
Son Dennis, 56, said: This man is scum. He must be caught, locked up and they should throw away the key. The raider took £400.
A Nassau County man was killed Thursday when a tree fell on the tractor he was operating.
Lee Charles Register, 76, was trying to bring down a dead oak tree near the town of St. George.
He couldnt see all the way through the tree, so he tried to pull it down with his tractor, said Hank Martinez, an assistant chief with the Nassau County Sheriffs Office. When the tree fell, part of it hit the tractor.
Register took down dead trees and sold them as firewood, Martinez said.
THREE teenagers were last night charged with murdering Ben Kinsella.
Juress Kika, 18, Michael Alleyne, 18, and Jade Braithwaite, 19, all of Islington, North London, will appear in court today accused of killing Ben, the brother of EastEnders actress Brooke.
Ben ... 'wrong postcode'
Earlier it was revealed that the 16-year-old was stabbed ELEVEN times by more than one knife.
The savagery was revealed by former Birds of a Feather star Linda Robson, whose son Louis cradled the star student as he lay dying.
Linda, who is close to Bens family, appeared on TV with his sister Brooke, 24 Kelly Taylor in the BBC soap.
Both wore K badges from a design by Ben, featured in yesterdays Sun, which is now being used in an anti-knife campaign.
Linda said: What people dont realise is that Ben was stabbed 11 times.
Postcode ... map showing London gangs
Louis feels maybe he could have done more. He thought there was only one wound when he tried to stop him bleeding, but now we have found out there were so many stab wounds.
Louis is a bit lost really.
He went to school for an hour yesterday to see friends for a coffee, but we are looking into getting him some counselling.
I dont understand what we should be doing. I need help to help him to come to terms with this terrible thing.
Ben died in the early hours of Sunday in Islington, North London.
Police sources confirmed last night that he had been stabbed 11 times.
Ben may have been targeted after straying into the wrong postcode.
He and his family live in the N1 area.
Nineteen knife-wielding street gangs are active in and around the area where the teenager died.
They are shown in the graphic above.
A senior police adviser yesterday warned that young thugs are in an arms race.
Cindy Butts, deputy chairman of the Metropolitan Police Authority, said: I liken it to an arms race. The more young people see others carrying knives, the more they are inclined to carry them.
A 16-YEAR-OLD is the latest victim of Broken Britain after being stabbed in London, Scotland Yard said today.
The teenager suffered multiple injuries in Beulah Crescent, Thornton Heath, south London, just before 2pm yesterday.
An air ambulance was scrambled but the victim was eventually taken to hospital by road after being treated at the scene.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said the young man died in a south London hospital overnight.
A spokesman said the victim had been stabbed more than once but that the weapon had not yet been identified.
The unnamed teenager is the 18th victim this year of Londons knife crime crisis.
He was attacked four days after 16-year-old Ben Kinsella, brother of former EastEnders star Brooke Kinsella, was knifed to death in Islington, north London.
whats happenin in London
Many artistes have found that maintaining their presence on the local entertainment scene is not only about having their songs in heavy rotation, but it's also about being visible in the dancehall.
While fans may enjoy hearing their favourite artistes, sometimes seeing them not only performing at events but in the dancehall itself, is just as important.
Artistes such as Bounty Killer, for instance, may not have song after song being played on radio and in dances, but he manages to maintain a presence, as he frequents the party scene.
With more than one dance each night of the week, dances aren't only for the enjoyment of patrons but are essential to strengthening and popularising the artiste and his or her music.
Artistes often get closer to fans by partying alongside them. THE STAR has often spotted artistes like Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Voicemail, D'Angel, Macka Diamond, Harry Todler, Konshens and countless others doing the nightly rounds at street dances.
Dancehall star Elephant Man's bright red and yellow-dyed hair cannot be missed by patrons at weekly dances such as Hot Mondays, Weddy Weddy, Bembe, Boasy Tuesdays and Passion Sundays which he frequents. According to Elephant Man he is one of the few dancehall artistes that is not afraid to mix with the hard-core dancehall fans.
"At the street dances is where you get the real hard-core garrison fans, you're seen in their eyes, that's where the dancehall is. Is like you're celebrating the music, you're showing your patriotism to the music. When the fans see you mixing with them, they say this is one down to earth dancehall artiste," Elephant Man explained.
The DASECA crew are also regulars on the streets, visiting two to three dances each night. According to Serani, they are everywhere music is. At the beginning of the week the trio can be seen at Uptown Mondays, Hot Mondays, Early Mondays, Girls Gone Wild Tuesdays, Blitz Tuesdays and Asylum on Tuesdays. By Wednesday it's Weddy Weddy and the Quad, Thursdays they frequent Bembe, then it's Dutty and Feelings Fridays. On the weekends it's partying as well with Sex and the City Saturdays and other parties.
While it may seem like purely fun, being a regular on the party scene helps keep the production group and their artistes current in the minds of patrons and selectors alike.
"The street like to be one with you, the people and audience in the streets dem waah feel like wi a one of dem. You have to connect with the people yuh can't lock up inna studio all di time, promotion is important," Serani told THE STAR.
For Serani it's about making his presence felt on the streets with the die-hard patrons who are the ones who make hits of songsBut, after spending one night there, the woman was horrified to discover the surveillance device screwed to the wall in the gap between two wardrobes.
The police arrived that evening and were shown the camera by the couple, which was switched on and had black tape covering the LED light.
After talking to Birkbeck, they were taken to his bedroom - directly below the couple - to watch the live link, which was being recorded on video.
Police seized "quite an extensive collection" of pornographic DVDs and sex toys during the search of the guesthouse.
However, there was no evidence to suggest Birkbeck had recorded anything sexual between the couple.
Birkbeck claimed in court that he watched only ten minutes of the live link because he believed the man and woman were smoking marijuana.
No drugs were found in the room and the couple were not suspected of taking any illegal substances, the court was told.
Jailing Birkbeck for six months, Maureen Rider, chairman of the bench, said he had installed the camera for his own "sexual gratification".
Birkbeck was also placed on the sex offenders register for seven years.
Mr Dixon said Birkbeck intended to appeal against both the sentence and the conviction before a Crown Court judge and applied for bail until that hearing.
The magistrates refused and ordered that the defendant begin his sentence immediately

The female patient told detectives she was inappropriately touched during a June 26 ride with 38-year-old Patrick Livingston. The Clearwater resident was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery.
Livingston was working for Sunstar, a company that contracts with Pinellas County to provide its ambulance service.
Livingston was being held on a $50,000 bond.
