Entertainer 'Hitlist', born Marlon Lawrence, is now in police custody under suspicion of rape, THE STAR understands.

Hitlist is best known for his 2006 hit, Please Stop Di Killing', which held its place on local charts during the year, after which his Nah Give Up Track also received major spin on the airwaves.

Checks by THE STAR yesterday revealed that the entertainer is being held at the St Catherine South Division in Portmore after he was picked up along St Johns Road in Spanish Town.

The Constabulary Communication Network told THE STAR that formal charges have not been laid against him, however, he is scheduled to face an identification parade.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that late last week, a female was offered a ride by the entertainer and was subsequently sexually assaulted.

A report was made to the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse at the St Catherine South Division and following investigations, the entertainer was held.

He is to be interviewed in the presence of his attorney.

The police were called into a primary and junior high school in Kingston after several students reportedly formed gangs.

The Gleaner understands that the students are members of the 'Kartel', 'Mavado' or 'Jungle *lo**' gangs.

Sergeant Tommy-Lee Chambers, of the Kingston Eastern Community Safety and Security Branch, said 49 students were taken to the station and cautioned. Their parents were also called in.

Being bullied

Chambers said some of the students said they formed gangs to protect themselves from being bullied.

"It is not good, so we have to start working on it now," Chambers told The Gleaner.

Chambers said most of the students had 'Gaza' or 'Mavado' written on their school bags. Some of the girls also had 'Gaza first lady' or 'Gaza mumma' on their bags.

When contacted yesterday, the principal of the school said the gang situation was nothing to be alarmed about. He noted that the school had called in the police in an effort to prevent it from getting out of control.

In a scene straight out of The Italian Job, Daniel Lyons was left hanging in mid-air after his vehicle plunged down the rock face and dangled on a precipice 170ft from the ground.

Terrified Daniel, 34, desperately tried to balance the weight of the van to prevent him from plunging to certain death.

But in his confusion he climbed onto the back seat which was already hanging off the cliff.

Rescue crews arrived at the scene of the accident at the Colorado National Monument and found Daniel cowering in the swaying vehicle.

They managed to manoeuvre him from the van and up the cliff face before he was airlifted to hospital where he received treatment for minor injuries.

Park Superintendent Joan Anzelmo said: "It's truly a miracle. Another few inches or a foot and that car would have continued on to the base of the canyon. No one survives those types of accidents. We're glad he's alive."

A 27-year-old teacher, who was charged with carnal abuse after it was alleged that he had sex with his 14-year-old neighbour and forced her to perform oral sex on him, was granted $50,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Allegations in the case are that in November last year, the complainant was watching TV at the house of the accused man, when he forced her to carry out the sexual favour. The allegations also said that the accused had sex with the minor in December, and also January of this year.

Denying the allegations

The accused man's lawyer, who said his client was denying the allegations, said it was strange that her client was rumoured to be involved with the minor. In further explaining, she said that the minor's mother was called by someone in the community telling her to keep a watchful eye on the teen as she was spending too much time with a certain male in the community. That male, the lawyer continued, was not her client but another man.

She said that after that telephone conversation, the child's mother inquired who it was that her daughter was involved with and she made mention of the accused. A report was then made and the accused man was subsequently arrested on January 15.

The matter returns to court on February 17.

Several eyebrows were raised in the Spanish Town RM Court yesterday after a judge admonished and discharged entertainer Adidjah 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer of indecent language.

The entertainer, represented by attorney-at-law Michael Deans, pleaded guilty before RM Simone Maddix. His lawyer told the court that although his client is guilty of the offence, he knows that the entertainer is very sorry for his misdeeds.

"Your Honour, I know the name Vybz Kartel might send off a negative vibes. However, I am representing Adidjah Palmer who is a totally different person from the entertainer persona. And it is in this light that we want to say we are sorry to the music fraternity and Jamaica at large for what happened at Sting," he said.

His responsibilities

He further mentioned that the entertainer is a responsible citizen and in this light having owned up to his responsibilities, he will be asking the court to admonish and discharge him of the offence. After hearing the submission RM Maddix spoke with the entertainer.

"Your lawyer said that Mr Palmer is different from Vybz Kartel but you need not be different, I cannot see how people use indecent language. It is negative and you being a responsible person must do things that reflect you as a totally responsible individual," she told him.

The entertainer was subsequently told that he was free to go and the case was admonished and discharged.

"I am pleased that things turned out this way, but I must admit that sincerity goes a long way. It was a sincere request that my lawyer put across as indeed I am sorry for the whole thing," Kartel said after leaving the court.

Kartel is accused of using indecent language at the Sting show on Boxing Day last year.

THE transport ministry's Road Safety Unit is appealing to motorists to obey traffic signals and traffic officials in order to reduce the number of road fatalities this year.

"Motorists, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians, we need your help to ensure that we attain below 300 road fatalities in 2009. We cannot attain such a feat without your unprecedented support as we seek to practice road safety," Kenute Hare, director of the Road Safety Unit said Monday.

"It is costing our nation over $2 billion to treat persons injured in traffic crashes. We appeal to male drivers to practice defensive driving. If all male drivers adhere to the Road Traffic Act and road code, our quest to achieve the below 300 target in 2009 will be historic."

Hare also urged motorcyclists, pillion passengers and pedal cyclists to wear protective gear and wear light coloured clothing at nights so that they can be visible to motorists.
"Passengers in the rear of motor vehicles - whether private or public passenger vehicles - please wear seat belts, everytime," he added.

Hare was speaking in the wake of two road crashes in Clarendon, which occurred within less than 12 hours of each other on the weekend, which he blamed on "the wanton carelessness of male drivers".

"Blatant disobedience of traffic signs and traffic officials were the root causes of these two fatal crashes along the Sandy Bay Main Road and the Sir Alexander Bustamante Highway," he said. "The drivers involved in these fatal crashes were males. The driver who mowed down the motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet on Friday night was driving a public passenger vehicle, transporting a passenger. The driver decided to disobey the police officer - this causing a family to be in grieving because of his indiscretion. To compound the situation, he fled the scene of the fatal crash which he had caused."

Hare, while extending his condolences to the family of the motorcyclist, also appealed to the driver involved in the crash to hand himself in to the police.

"We also extend condolences to the family of the female public motor vehicle passenger who was thrown out of the vehicle because a motorist failed to obey the stop sign at the intersection of the Sandy Bay Main Road and Highway 2000," he said.

Last year, 341 persons were killed in traffic accidents across Jamaica.

A mother accused of stabbing at her son appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Joan Kirlew.

The court was told that on January 5 about 12:43 a.m., Kirlew entered her son's room and started an argument. It is alleged that during the fuss, she pulled a knife and stabbed at him. The complainant, who is 26, told the court that he had a dispute with his sister earlier and that his mother had come into his room to continue the argument.

Kirlew pleaded not guilty to the accusations. The case is to be mentioned again on March 2.

AIR Jamaica, the national airline, will begin dropping some routes next month, including its previously popular flights to the United States city of Miami, affectionately called 'Kingston 21'.

At its peak, the "Love Bird" operated seven flights daily to Miami and became part of the political lexicon when late former Prime Minister Michael Manley famously offered "five flights a day" to Jamaicans fleeing the country after his visit to Fidel Castro's Cuba in the politically charged 1970s.

Two other Florida flights, to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, presumably more lucrative, will remain on the airline's schedule.

Admitting that it was bleeding red ink to the tune of US$170 million last year, the airline said in a statement yesterday that it would reduce its aeroplanes from 15 to nine and drastically cut staff and several routes, as part of a new business plan, apparently in readiness for divestment.

Effective February 26, the airline said, it would be pulling out of Atlanta, Georgia; Los Angeles, California; Grand Cayman and Miami. It will also discontinue services between Jamaica and Barbados and Jamaica and Grenada.

Air Jamaica's new schedule has 218 weekly flights to 14 destinations between Jamaica and Toronto, New York, Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Curacao, Nassau and Havana. The airline will also offer service between New York and Barbados and New York and Grenada.

"With these changes the airlines fleet will be reduced to nine aircraft, the appropriate number required to effectively operate the new schedule," said the Air Jamaica statement. It added that the airline would also restructure existing leases and negotiate aircraft returns to accomplish this result.

Yesterday, Air Jamaica chairman Shirley Williams declined to comment on the number of workers whose jobs would be made redundant or if the move was a part of the ongoing divestment initiative, saying only that staff members were being briefed.

"At this moment we are making no public statement," Williams told the Observer. "Air Jamaica is working behind the scenes with the staff, we have got to do it as best as possible," she remarked.

In the statement, Air Jamaica president Bruce Nobles said that everything was being done to reduce the impact on staff members, including offering voluntary redundancies and leave of absence.

It was a short but extremely funny scene at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday when a man who had a matter in court bolted from the compound, outrunning two policemen who tried to apprehend him.

Shouts of "hol' him, hol' him!" rang out from the upper level of the court as The Star arrived on scene, only to see a man in a lime green shirt scampering out the courtyard through the gates of the premises and making a dash for his life up the busy Maxfield Avenue thoroughfare. In pursuit were two policemen dressed in suits.

Simple larceny charge

Checks by THE STAR revealed the man, identified as Christopher Mullings, had appeared in court yesterday morning facing a simple larceny charge. According to one policeman, the allegation was that Mullings filled up a car with petrol and failed to pay. His bail was extended in that matter and he returns to court on January 28.

One of the policemen, after giving an unsuccessful chase, said that he only wanted to talk to the edgy Mullings. The cop said that there was a previous matter involving Mullings whereby he is accused of renting a house and collecting deposits from several people, but was not the owner of the house. It was this matter that the policeman said he wanted to talk to Mullings about, and not the larceny case he showed up for yesterday.

ANCHOVY, St James - A fire, believed to be arson, destroyed the Anchovy Apostolic House of Prayer and Praise early yesterday morning.

According to church officials, the fire razed the wooden building as well as an adjoining 45-foot container that housed an office, a kitchen, a bathroom, musical instruments, and food supplies for a tuck shop operated by
the church.

They estimated the losses at $12 million.
One female member who resides at the manse on the church premises said she was awakened by strange sounds "coming from the direction of the church" at approximately 3:00 am yesterday. She said she alerted the St James Fire Department when she realised the church was on fire.

"I heard some movements coming from the church and (when my son] peeped through the window, he saw fire coming from the container and brought it to my attention. It was blazing and we called the fire brigade, but by the time they came the fire just spread quickly and reached the church. The building just crumbled," she told the Observer, adding that thieves last year raided the container and stole a desktop computer.

Up to late yesterday, deputy superintendent of the St James Fire Department, Lloyd Scott, said they were still "piecing together information" to determine the cause of the blaze. The church had more than 200 members.

Meanwhile, the Hanover police yesterday said they were still investigating the circumstances behind a fire Monday night that destroyed an eight-apartment house in Cacoon which was owned and occupied by 51-year-old farmer Ethlyn McGowan and her two sons.

According to the police, one of McGowan's son saw the blaze on his way home and called the Lucea Fire Department which cooled down the fire. Losses were estimated at $4 million.

Albert Scott, the common-law husband of Angella Smith, who was shot and then burnt along with her three grandchildren in her one-room board house in Land Top, Port Morant, in St Thomas on the weekend, was questioned by police yesterday in relation to the gruesome incident.

Addressing questions during a press conference at the Ministry of National Security in New Kingston yesterday, deputy commissioner of police in charge of crime, Mark Shields, declined to say why Scott was of interest to the police.

"It is still very early stages and we will do everything we possibly can to bring those responsible to justice," he said.

According to police reports, about 11 p.m. Sunday, Lynch's house was saturated with an inflammable liquid before a person or persons kicked off the door to the dwelling and shot Lynch. The house was subsequently set ablaze. Scott, who was at the house at the time, escaped the attack.

In the end, the charred remains of two-year-old Niasha Cousins, five-year-old Thaila Cousins and three-year-old Jawara Cousins and their grandmother, Lynch, were found. The children had spent the Christmas holidays with Lynch and were to start school in St Thomas.

Shields positive

Shields is positive about closing the case soon.

"The people of the community I am sure, because it's a rural area, I am positive the people in the community will have information about what led up to that incident. Things like that just don't happen," he said.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Children's Advocate has condemned the attack.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to the wider community during this time of grief," a statement from the agency said.

The agency also expressed its condolences to Aretha Smith, the mother of the three deceased children.

The office is encouraging adults to take responsibility for protecting their children from falling victim to acts of crime, which may arise from conflicts between adults.

"Too many children have lost their lives because of alleged conflict between adults ... no child should have to pay because adults fail to resolve their differences amicably," the agency said.

SAN DIEGO -- A mistrial was declared Monday when a home-invasion robbery suspect smeared human feces on his attorney's face then threw more at the jury.Weusi McGowan, 37, was upset because San Diego Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Fraser refused to remove Deputy Alternate Public Defender Jeffrey Martin from the case, prosecutor Christopher Lawson said.

At the mid-morning break, McGowan produced a plastic baggie filled with fecal matter and spread it on Martin's hair and face, then flung the excrement toward the jury box, hitting the briefcase of juror No. 9 but missing the juror himself.

"That juror didn't even see it coming," Lawson said.The prosecutor said the defendant was compliant after the outburst and was taken into custody without further incident.After lunch, Fraser dismissed the jury, telling them McGowan would have to get a new lawyer and that his trial would be delayed.The judge scheduled a status conference for Feb. 9 and raised the defendant's bail from $250,000 to $1 million, finding he is a danger to the community.

Lawson said McGowan originally became upset last week when he claimed one of the jurors saw him in shackles as he entered the courtroom. Fraser dismissed all jurors who saw the defendant in shackles, the prosecutor said."The judge had been very fair," Lawson said. "All jurors who saw it were dismissed."Fraser had also denied McGowan's attempt to represent himself, saying the request was untimely, Lawson said.The prosecutor said the defendant had previously wiped human feces on himself and was examined by doctors to ensure he was mentally competent to stand trial.

McGowan is charged with kidnapping for robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and other counts and could face assault charges in connection with the attack on his attorney and jury, Lawson said.The prosecutor said the defendant hit a man with a rock in a sock as the victim came out of his home to investigate a commotion on Oct. 17, 2007.McGowan allegedly ransacked the man's apartment then stole some of the victim's belongings and took off in the victim's car.He was arrested 20 minutes later, Lawson said.

A man accused of beating his wife because she accused him of having another woman, apologised when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Lennox Campbell.

The complainant told the court that they had an argument stemming from her accusations of infidelity. She said she told him not to lie to her and asked if he was cheating and was hit in the head and on the foot with a bottle.

The accused, however, told the court that he was at home watching TV when his wife started accusing him of cheating. He said she bit him and ran under the bed. He explained that he was drinking from a bottle and threw it under the bed and it hit her.

Campbell revealed that they had been married for six years and have two children ages three and six. Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown asked the accused how his daughters would feel if they knew he had hit their mother and he replied "bad".

The complainant told the court that for the sake of the children, she was willing to give the accused another chance. She, however, requested a restraining order and admitted that she was afraid of him. Senior RM Brown warned him, "If you come back before me again, make sure to pack your little bag."

Campbell was placed on probation for 12 month and was ordered to live elsewhere.

Sean Kingston" tops 7 million sales

Sean Kingston's debut self-titled album has sold more than seven million copies worldwide.

Five months after its release, the album has accrued more than seven
million sales worldwide from ring tones, ring-backs, singles and albums in physical and digital sales; for songs including his global chart topping single "Beautiful Girl."

"Beautiful Girl" topped charts in 21 countries around the world. His second hit, "Me Love" has been certified gold. His latest top ten hit "Take You There" has also gone gold. That single is currently number ten on the Billboard Hot 100.

In related news, Kingston is now wrapping up a national US tour with Grammy-nominated R&B singer Chris Brown, following a national tour with Gwen Stefani. In March, he will kick off an international tour
performing throughout Europe, Australia and Asia. That tour will run until Spring.

And, he has been nominated in the 'Outstanding New Artiste' category for the 39th NAACP Image Awards that will air live on Thursday, February 14 on FOX.

Kingston recently won the US Teen Choice Award for 'Choice R&B Track' for "Beautiful Girls." Last year he won the UK MOBO Award for 'Best Reggae Act.'

THE mum who gave birth to octuplets already has SIX kids including twins.

They are living with grandparents while the mother recovers in hospital after delivering six boys and two girls on Monday.

All were breathing unaided last night and in a stable condition.

Five began bottle feeding yesterday and the other three were expected to be able to take food soon.

The identity of the mum, believed to be Hispanic, is being kept secret.

She is recovering well, a spokeswoman said at the Kaiser Permanente Bellflower Medical Center, California.

The babies were born nine weeks early and are believed to be only the second set of live octuplets born in America. The revelation that the mother already has six children will heighten speculation that she has had fertility treatment.

And it will spark questions about why a mother of six would receive help to conceive again.

Michael Tucker, a leading US researcher in infertility treatment, said: If a medical practitioner had anything to do with it theres some degree of inappropriate medical therapy there.

Yesterday the mother of Americas first octuplets said they were all praying for the new batch. Nigerian Nkem Chukwu gave birth in Houston, Texas, in 1998 aged 27.

Mavado not so special

Many people, both locally and abroad were eagerly anticipating the debut of Mavado's "So Special" on BET's 106 and Park yesterday (Monday, January 26). The exact reasons the video were not shown have not been presented but Mavado's management has commented on the matter.

The show's presenters had been hyping about the premier for several days, including showing clips from the video, but a last minute intervention by someone in the legal department prevented the video from airing.

"The anticipation was very high for the BET premier," said Mavado's management team. "We weren't notified until late in the day that there was a last minute objection by one of the legals over there, who had a censorship issue. He objected to "excessive display of alcohol" and "careless use of women as writhing set dressings!" The video is now available to watch online so people can make up their own minds about that."

Mavado's management went on to say that when the video was first submitted to BET they flagged several issues and were sent 3 different edits before approval.

"The show's programmer had passed the video and had been running promos so she was livid at the decision," he continued. "Its disappointing but all is not lost. If anything this may help publicise the video even more - Mavado can't seem to step without some form of controversy!"

The tune only started the show and the audience was dancing but i have a feelin that today its gonna be premiered on this Wild-Out-Wednesday Jan. 29th 2009

Could there be trouble brewing between superstar rapper Lil Wayne and his manager/labelmate/father Bryan "Baby" Williams? Well according to one Lil Wayne insider - there may just be.

The insider, who asked to remain nameless, told MediaTakeOut.com that Baby is contracted to receive the lions share of the proceeds from The Carter 3 - and Lil Wayne may get close to nothing.

The insider explained, "No one could have imagined how big a success The Carter would be ... now [Lil Wayne] wants a different deal."

The recent lyrical clashes at Jamworld, Portmore dubbed 'The Settlement of All Arguments' seems to have left some unsettled decision lingering as the feud between Alliance bad boy Mavado and Portmore Empire front man Vybz Kartel appears to have no end in sight.

Following the December show Kartel recorded a number of songs aimed at his arch nemesis Mavado most noted is the track entitled "Last Man Standing" produced by young gun Not Nice that sees Kartel poking fun at Mavado's athletic abilities and lyrical disabilities.

However Mavado who has been quiet for sometime, focusing on other aspects of his career has once again risen from the woodwork to recorded a collaborative effort with his longtime friend and song writer cronie Flexxx titled "Tell Dem Walk Wid Dem Casket".

Many are alleging that the song produced by industry giant Stephen 'Di Genius' Mcgregor of the Big Ship family is a counteraction to Kartel's hit.

According to Stephen the song is not a counteraction and is just Mavado and his friend expressing their thoughts on record. He added that the song was recorded prior to the infamous clash.

Violence erupted backstage at the Chris Brown concert in Dallas over the weekend. MediaTakeOut.com EXCLUSIVELY learned that Bow Wow and Chris Brown had an argument - and during the argument Bow Wow .

The problems started when Bow Wow had technical problems with the microphone during his performance. A tour insider tells MediaTakeOut.com, "When he finished his set he went crazy ... He blamed [Chris Brown's] people for trying to sabotage his performance."

And when Chris came in to try and calm the situation, things went from bad to worse. The insider explained MediaTakeOut.com, "Chris was apologizing and trying to explain what went wrong, but Bow Wow kept yelling."

Finally someone pulled Bow Wow away - but before he was ushered away, the pint-sized rapper spit in Chris Brown's face. The witness told MediaTakeOut.com, "I don't think he meant to spit on Chris, but that's what he did ... Everyone just went quiet, because no one could believe what this little [EXPLETIVE] did. I personally thought that it was going to be on and poppin', but Chris just walked away and got ready to go on stage."

The insider continued, "I have to give [Chris Brown] a lot of respect, he knew that the concert and the fans were most important and so he didn't do anything to mess things up. Props to that dude."

The incident reportedly occurred Saturday night in Dallas. Both Bow Wow and Chris Brown performed in New Orleans and the two are both expected to continue touring.

PROPONENTS OF the right of individuals to bear arms have renewed their call for the Government to make the process of owning licensed firearms more accessible for law-abiding citizens.

Long-time supporters of the controversial issue, Delroy Chuck, speaker of the house and member of parliament for North East St Andrew, and former Jamaica Labour Party Senator Prudence Kidd-Deans have maintained their positions that the laws of the land should be amended to make it easier for sober, decent and law-abiding citizens to own firearms.

Defensive mechanism

According to Chuck, owning a licensed firearm is a form of preventative and defensive mecha-nism for citizens to ward off criminals who would try to invade their homes and in the process destroy both life and property.

Kidd-Deans told The Gleaner that she totally supports citizens being able to protect themselves because the Government cannot meet the security demands of the people.

Responding to some critics who believe that arming more people would fuel the crime rate, she said such an argument was mere "foolishness".

"An unarmed person is more likely to be killed than an armed person," she said, adding that criminals would be more cautious in approaching people who they know may be armed.

Although more people owning licensed firearms would not readily translate into a reduction in overall crime figures, Chuck said that it could reduce the number of hold-ups and invasion of private property.

Additionally, he said that if more people were armed, it could serve as a deterrent to criminals, as they would be more reluctant to carry out attacks if they know they might be met with gunfire.

However, legal officer at the Independent Jamaican Council for Human Rights, Nancy Anderson, said she totally disagrees with that argument.

"The only thing a gun can do is shoot and if you give a person a gun, they will shoot," she said.

Anderson said one way to address the problem of crime is to provide more resources to the police, inclusive of proper training and sharpen their investigative skills.

"Having more licensed firearm holders is not the solution," she asserted.

A Montego Bay man who tried to smuggle three pounds of ganja out of the island in the handle of his suitcases was shown lenience when he appeared before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court Monday.

Robert Cunningham, 42, an electrician and businessman from Paradise, was sentenced to six months in prison, suspended for the next two years after he entered a guilty plea to charges of possession, dealing and attempting to export ganja.

He was originally charged with a travelling companioning, Cynthia Woolery from Bethel Town, Westmoreland, who allegedly had 2.75 pounds of ganja in the handle of her suitcases. He had taken responsibility for the contraband found in the woman's suitcase handles. However, the court did not accept his plea after it was revealed that the woman had a previous conviction for a similar matter. She will face trial on February 4.

Begged for lenience

Attorney at law H. Charles Johnson, mitigating on Cunnin-gham's behalf, begged for lenience, saying his client, the father of four children, had learnt a valuable lesson after spending the last three weeks in jail.

He said the accused was given the ganja to take to Curacao for a friend and did it because he did not want to "let down his friend". He said his client was not a bad person and that he had been making an honest living all his life before this unfortunate incident.

Three months in prison

Despite getting the suspended sentence, Cunningham could spend three months in prison if he fails to pay fines of $4,800 for possession and $24,000 for attempting to export ganja.

The facts are that on January 4 he boarded an Air Jamaica flight from Kingston with the intention of going to Curacao. The flight was in transit at the Sangster International Airport, Montego Bay, when his suitcases were x-rayed and irregularities observed. Ganja, weighing three pounds, was subsequently found in the handles of each suitcase.

Several eyebrows were raised in the Spanish Town RM Court yesterday after a judge admonished and discharged entertainer Adidjah 'Vybz Kartel' Palmer of indecent language.

The entertainer, represented by attorney-at-law Michael Deans, pleaded guilty before RM Simone Maddix. His lawyer told the court that although his client is guilty of the offence, he knows that the entertainer is very sorry for his misdeeds.

"Your Honour, I know the name Vybz Kartel might send off a negative vibes. However, I am representing Adidjah Palmer who is a totally different person from the entertainer persona. And it is in this light that we want to say we are sorry to the music fraternity and Jamaica at large for what happened at Sting," he said.

His responsibilities

He further mentioned that the entertainer is a responsible citizen and in this light having owned up to his responsibilities, he will be asking the court to admonish and discharge him of the offence. After hearing the submission RM Maddix spoke with the entertainer.

"Your lawyer said that Mr Palmer is different from Vybz Kartel but you need not be different, I cannot see how people use indecent language. It is negative and you being a responsible person must do things that reflect you as a totally responsible individual," she told him.

The entertainer was subsequently told that he was free to go and the case was admonished and discharged.

"I am pleased that things turned out this way, but I must admit that sincerity goes a long way. It was a sincere request that my lawyer put across as indeed I am sorry for the whole thing," Kartel said after leaving the court.

Kartel is accused of using indecent language at the Sting show on Boxing Day last year.

A man accused of beating his wife because she accused him of having another woman, apologised when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Charged with unlawful wounding is Lennox Campbell.

The complainant told the court that they had an argument stemming from her accusations of infidelity. She said she told him not to lie to her and asked if he was cheating and was hit in the head and on the foot with a bottle.

The accused, however, told the court that he was at home watching TV when his wife started accusing him of cheating. He said she bit him and ran under the bed. He explained that he was drinking from a bottle and threw it under the bed and it hit her.

Campbell revealed that they had been married for six years and have two children ages three and six. Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown asked the accused how his daughters would feel if they knew he had hit their mother and he replied "bad".

The complainant told the court that for the sake of the children, she was willing to give the accused another chance. She, however, requested a restraining order and admitted that she was afraid of him. Senior RM Brown warned him, "If you come back before me again, make sure to pack your little bag."

Campbell was placed on probation for 12 month and was ordered to live elsewhere.

As a result, he was picked up last Saturday. Lewis is now awaiting an attorney, after which he will be questioned.

David Beckham has been sued by a paparazzo who claims the soccer star and his bodyguard beat him up.


We just found the lawsuit, filed last month in L.A. County Superior Court, in which Emicles Da Mata claims on December 7, 2008, he had stopped his car on a Beverly Hills street when Beckham reached through the driver's window and grabbed his camera and attempted to wrestle it from him. Da Mata was holding the camera at the time.

The lawsuit claims Beckham's bodyguard -- also a defendant -- then beat him repeatedly, grabbed the camera and threw it in a trash can. The picture on the left shows two of Beckham's bodyguards on top of Da Mata.

Da Mata says he was injured and is suing for assault and battery, as well as emotional distress. He's seeking unspecified damages.

A MEDICAL doctor testified yesterday that on the night of March 19, 2006, he saw the accused, 26-year-old Sheldon Pusey, at the home of 64-year-old Trade Ambassador Peter King.

King was fatally stabbed at his home at 11A Waterloo Road, St Andrew, between March 19 and 20, 2006.

The doctor is the second witness to testify that Pusey was at King's house on March 19, 2006.

A witness testified last Thursday that about 10 p.m. on that date, he saw King in boxer shorts and Pusey wearing only a pair of underpants and a pair socks. He said King introduced Pusey to him and Pusey told him that his name was Douglas.

The doctor told the court yesterday that sometime after 5 p.m. on the day in question, he and a friend went to King's house. He said sometime after, Pusey entered the room where they were.

Introductions made

He said King introduced the accused to him as Sheldon. The doctor said he spoke to Pusey for a brief time and even asked Pusey how his fingernails were so shiny. He said up to the time when he left the premises at minutes to 8 p.m., Pusey was using a computer in the room where they were.

Cross-examined by defence lawyer Berrie Bryan, the doctor, who said he knew King for 25 years, said that he was aware that King had homosexual leanings and that he led a homosexual lifestyle.

Prosecutors Caroline Hay and Dahlia Findlay are representing the Crown at the trial which began last Monday in the Home Circuit Court.

Senior Puisne Judge Marva McIntosh is presiding at the trial.
