Most Expensive Wedding
Though a billionaire Indian steel baron threw a $60 million wedding for his daughter in 2004, factor in inflation and the most expensive wedding was a seven-day affair for Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, and his bride, Princess Salama. The 1981 wedding, which would cost $100 million today, included a stadium big enough for 20,000 wedding guests built especially for the celebration.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)Imprisoned NFL star Michael Vick will be allowed to serve the last two months of his sentence under home confinement because there is no room at a halfway house for him, a government official told The Associated Press Thursday.

Vick is serving a 23-month sentence at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kan., after pleading guilty to bankrolling a dogfighting operation at a home he owned in eastern Virginias Surry County. He also admitted to participating in the killing of several underperforming dogs.

Vicks lawyers have said they expected him to be moved any day into a halfway house in Newport News. But because of a lack of space, Vick will be released instead to his home in nearby Hampton at some point on or after May 21, said the official, who has knowledge of the case but requested anonymity because the individual was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.

We are aware of reports regarding the release of Michael Vick, Vick attorneys Billy Martin and Lawrence Woodward said in a written statement. As his attorneys we understand and respect that there is a process that the Bureau of Prisons follows therefore it is not appropriate for us comment at this time.

Vicks agent, Joel Segal, did not return messages seeking comment. Vicks mother, Brenda Boddie, said in a telephone interview that she knew nothing about the arrangements.

The Hampton house is one of four Vick still owns, according to bankruptcy court papers. He sold the Surry County property that served as headquarters for his BadNewz Kennels soon after his July 2007 indictment.

The five-bedroom, 3,538-square-foot brick home with an in-ground pool in Hampton is assessed at $748,100, according to city tax records. Vick also owns an interest in a $2 million home being built in Suffolk, bankruptcy court papers show. His eight-bedroom home in suburban Atlanta is scheduled to be sold at auction March 10, with a minimum opening bid of $3.2 million.

Vick will be on electronic monitoring and will only be allowed to leave home for activities approved by his probation officer, the official said. He is eligible for release in July.

According to Vicks lawyers, the former Virginia Tech standout plans to resume his pro football career. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, who suspended Vick without pay, has repeatedly said he will review Vicks status after the legal proceedings are completed.

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said earlier this month that the Falcons will try to trade the contract rights on Vick to another team. Vick, once the highest-paid player in the NFL and among its most popular, has a contract that runs to 2013 and calls for him to receive a base salary of $9 million and a bonus of $6.43 million in 2009. The remainder of the contract is worth $45.11 million, with an additional possible $3 million in Pro Bowl bonuses.

Officials of some other NFL teams have said they are not interested in Vick because they would rather not face the wrath of pet lovers and groups such as PETA, which has been a constant fixture at Vicks hearings.

Vick also earned substantial sums from endorsement deals with Nike and other companies, but that income vanished after the dogfighting revelations virtually destroyed his image as well as his finances. Vick filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July, claiming assets of $16 million and liabilities of $20.4 million.

RHIANNA RESURFACES IN MEXICO HER SECOND PUBLIC APPEARANCE SINCE HER ALTERCATION WITH RNB KING CHRIS BROWN...................

LONDON, England (CNN) -- The ever budget-conscious boss of Ryanair has suggested the discount airline may start charging passengers for using the toilet on board its flights.

Michael O'Leary said the airline had revived inquiries into whether the airline could install coin-operated toilets on its fleet.

"People might actually have to spend a pound to spend a penny in future," he said in a BBC interview, adding "We're always in Ryanair looking at the ways of constantly lowering the costs of air travel and making it more affordable and easier for passengers to fly with us."

Asked by the incredulous presenter what passengers would do if they found themselves without money mid-flight, O'Leary replied: "I don't think there is anybody in history that has got on board a Ryanair aircraft with less than a pound." Sound Off: Is it fair to charge a fee for a flush?

The Irish airline is renowned for its cheap flights and regularly advertises competition-crushing deals to boost capacity on its short-haul routes.

The Lacovia Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of two men, whose bodies were found between Saturday night and Sunday morning in bushes in St Elizabeth.

The bodies of the two men were found in bushes in Cashew Park, Lacovia, St. Elizabeth.

The bodies were identified as Dwight Brown, 36, otherwise called 'Maxi', and Gregory Elliot, otherwise called 'Links', 35, taxi operator, both of Cobbla district Manchester.

Police reports are that about 5:15 p.m., farmers saw a body in bushes and called the police. When police closely inspected the body, they found a large wound at the back of the neck. A grey Toyota Corolla motor car was also found near to the body. The crime scene was processed and the body removed to the morgue for post-mortem.

Critics upped the ante Sunday in their battle against the New YorkPost, aiming their fire at owner Rupert Murdoch's media empire.

TheRev. Al Sharpton and several City Council members riled by a cartoonperceived as racist want the Federal Communications Commission to yanka waiver allowing Murdoch's News Corp. to run two newspapers and two TVstations in the city.

"You can stem protests because you own somuch of the media. People can't question you," Sharpton said on hisweekly radio show on 98.7 KISS FM. "Advertisers are reluctant to pullout because you own so much of the media market."

In additionto the Post, which last week ran the cartoon that critics say comparesPresident Obama with the face-mauling chimp shot dead by cops, NewsCorp. owns The Wall Street Journal and local Fox 5 (WNEW) and My9(WWOR). It also owns the Fox Network and online networking siteMySpace.

Sharpton said he hopes to get a million signatures online this week to show regulators the depth of opposition.

AtMedgar Evers College in Brooklyn, meanwhile, students burned copies ofthe Post and encouraged classmates to boycott the paper and shut downtheir MySpace pages. "We are the ones who are putting money in theirpockets," said Marie Antoine, a senior and president of the studentgovernment association. "They have treated us like animals."

"Wedon't need this trash," said state Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn),standing behind a barrel of burning copies of the Post. "This is whereit deserves to be."

Brooklyn City Council members Letitia Jamesand Charles Barron are demanding the city pull all advertising from thePost and cancel any subscriptions.

The protesters dismissed claims that their demands infringed on freedom of speech.

"Youhave the freedom to do it, and we have the freedom to make you pay forit," Sharpton said. "We can hardly fight back if he owns half thenewspapers in town and half the TV stations."

COPS CRACK BIG JOB SCAM

February 26, 2009

The Area Three police are currently investigating a possible job scam in Manchester in which more than 300 persons were conned out of varying sums of money they paid to get jobs overseas.

The police confirmed that they have arrested a woman who is to face the court today on charges of obtaining money by false pretence and fraudulent conversion. The number of counts are being determined because the police are still taking statements from complainants. However, THE STAR understands that the sums ranged from between $10,000 and $40,000 and that there are 360 possible complainants in the matter.

Marie, a victim who was swindled of $35,000, said she went to an agency last November in response to an advertisement in the paper. She said when she went there, she was told that the applicants would be given jobs overseas at hotels and restaurants.

Process the application

Marie said she was told to pay $500 to register and in addition, she was told to take additional documentation to process the application. After this was done, Marie said she and other applicants were told that the first set of workers would leave the island in December and the second set in February.

"She told us that we would make US$450 (J$39,150) as a housekeeper at the hotel and those who worked at the restaurant would make US$350 (J$30,450) per week," she said.

However, to date, no one has left and many of the complainants have still been unable to get back their money. "Since this happen, most time we cannot get her (when we call), and when you do get her, she tell you another thing," she said.

Marie said she even got over 30 people to register with the programme and only some of them have been able to get back their money.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Labour is encouraging persons to call the ministry to verify the legitimacy of any agency offering overseas employment. Ann-Marie Dobson, public relations manager, said while the ministry mainly administers overseas employment programmes, there are some agencies, which have its permission to operate their own programme. She said agencies that are allowed to do so must register with the ministry and persons can verify this with a telephone call.

AIR JAMAICA yesterday slashed four underperforming routes and terminated jobs at those locations, as administrators attempt to make the struggling airline attractive to prospective buyers.

Bruce Nobles, president and chief executive officer of Air Jamaica, told The Gleaner that workers at the Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles and Grand Cayman offices were let go.

He said another round of layoffs was due in March but declined to disclose how many persons would be affected.

"This is part of a strategy to make Air Jamaica profitable by summer," Nobles said.

He added that some of the workers released yesterday could find employment at the company's Fort Lauderdale and New York offices.

In January, Nobles announced that Air Jamaica would stop flying six routes which were not making money. Direct flights from Jamaica to Barbados and Grenada were also cut.

Surprising cut

Termination of the Miami route was most surprising; Air Jamaica had been travelling to the south Florida city since 1969. Atlanta and Los Angeles were added to the airline's schedule in the 1990s when it was run by hotelier Gordon 'Butch' Stewart.

Yesterday, Nobles said there were plans to increase the number of flights to and from Fort Lauderdale "depending on demand".

Currently, there are four flights daily to that city, which is also located in south Florida and has a large Jamaican population.

The Government, which subsidises Air Jamaica at US$30 million annually, had hoped to sell it by the end of March.

The airline lost US$170 million in 2007 and has accumulated debt of US$1.3 billion.

In January, Senator Don Wehby, the Cabinet minister overseeing divestment talks, said the Government was in talks with "two reputable airlines" to purchase Air Jamaica.

"March 31 is close but we are going to try our best to hit that deadline," he said.

Jamaicans urged not to abort

The Roman Catholic support group Missionaries of the Poor has again made an impassioned plea to mothers contemplating abortion.

Father Richard Ho Lung who heads the group told legislators yesterday that his organisation is in the process of establishing a home for pregnant women in crisis.

The home called: The Holy Innocents Building, located at West Heroes Circle in Kingston, will also provide a facility for children, who would normally have been aborted by their mothers.

Father Ho Lung told the parliamentary committee deliberating on abortion, that the home will house more than 200 children and space is now available for 25 women and their babies.

He explained that Missionaries of the Poor and Food For the Poor have given a commitment that any woman who has been raped or who conceived through an act of incest will be helped by the organisation.

Health Minister Rudyard Spencer who chairs the committee, applauded the Roman Catholic body for its work.

The dead man has been identified as Jermaine Pothemon, 28, a taxi operator of Portmore Pines in St Catherine.

The woman is yet to be identified.

The two were travelling in a white Toyota probox motor car which crashed into an Izusu truck.

The Santa Cruz police report that about 3:30 yesterday afternoon, the two vehicles were travelling from Mandeville, Manchester towards Santa Cruz in St Elizabeth.

On reaching a section of the road in Pepper District the driver of the car was in the process of overtaking the truck when the driver slowed and the action led to the crash.

The driver of the truck and two other passengers were rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Bossip reported some time ago that Rihanna initiated the fight. Now it looks like Chris Brown and his team have come up with a reason as to why he beat the living dog sh*t out of Rihanna; self defense:

A source tells Life & Style magazine, Chris is already building his case. Hes saying she threw a phone at him, then hit him in the head and basically just lost it. Hes saying she attacked him. Darren Kavinoky, a criminal defense attorney in LA, said of Browns defense: Unless theres some indication that she was enraged to the point that she physically threatened him, I think hed have a tough time with that defense. If it goes to court, ultimately it would be up to a jury to decide.

A celly across the dome is the reason you beat her like she stole something? SMH

To help out the Chris Brown defense, Rihanna, still has not filed charges:

Rihanna is reluctant to press charges over her alleged beating at the hands of ex boyfriend Chris Brown, according to U.S. reports. Brown was arrested and charged with making criminal threats following an alleged attack on the Umbrella hitmaker after a pre-Grammys party on 8 February (09).  He was freed on bail following the incident. He is due in court in Los Angeles on 5 March (09) for an arraignment hearing. Police are still gathering evidence on the case but Rihanna has so far not come forward to press charges against her ex lover, according to In Touch magazine. A spokesman for Los Angeles district attorneys office tells the publication, We do not have enough evidence and there have been no charges filed on the Chris Brown case.  But the spokesman is adamant they will seek justice - even if Rihanna doesnt appear in court to testify. The spokesman adds, If the state gathers up enough evidence, we will press charges with or without her testifying. It is not up to the victim. She will not have to show up during the arraignment.

The D.A. does not need Rihanna to testify, but it sure does hurt the case to know she is not cooperating. Despite the tats on Chris, he is a first time offender and depending on the severity of her wounds, might not get any time.

Nice...my grandma may grow teeth again...

February 26, 2009

WASHINGTON Ever wonder why sharks get several rows of teeth and people only get one? Some geneticists did, and their discovery could spur work to help adults one day grow new teeth when their own wear out.

A single gene appears to be in charge, preventing additional tooth formation in species destined for a limited set. When the scientists bred mice that lacked that gene, the rodents developed extra teeth next to their first molars backups like sharks and other non-mammals grow, University of Rochester scientists reported Thursday.

If wondering about shark teeth seems rather wonky, consider: Tooth loss from gum disease is a major problem, here and abroad, and dentures or dental implants are far from perfect treatments. If scientists knew exactly what triggers a new tooth to grow in the first place, it's possible they could switch that early-in-life process on again during adulthood to regenerate teeth.

"It's exciting. We've got a clue what to do," said Dr. Songtao Shi of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry, who said the Rochester discovery will help his own research into how to grow a new tooth from scratch.

Pop star Rihanna has issued a statement thanking fans for their support after an alleged assault by her R&B singer boyfriend Chris Brown.

However, she declined to comment on a leaked photograph which appears to show her with facial injuries.

"At the request of the authorities, Rihanna is not commenting about the incident involving Chris Brown," the star said via her spokesperson.

"She wants to assure her fans that she remains strong."

Brown was questioned by police on 8 February over a complaint of assault.

Police said the 19-year-old got into an argument with an unidentified woman in a parked car in the Hanc**k Park area of Los Angeles, which escalated after they left the vehicle.

Both Brown and Rihanna pulled out of that night's Grammy awards, where they had been due to perform.

He has since said he was "sorry and saddened" by the incident and was seeking counselling.

Prosecutors have asked police to provide more information before deciding what charges, if any, to pursue against him.

On Friday, Rihanna's 21st birthday, a photograph was posted on a US gossip website which purported to show the Barbadian star in the hours after the incident with welts, scratches, bruises and swelling on her face.

After it appeared, the Los Angeles Police Department launched an internal investigation and asked for the public's help in finding the person who leaked it.

A police news release said the image "has the appearance" of one taken during a domestic violence investigation, and classified its release as a case of serious misconduct.

"The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence," it added.

Digitally manipulated images of Rihanna with facial injuries have appeared on the internet several times over the last couple of weeks.

In her statement, the singer - whose hits include Pon De Replay and Umbrella - said she was "doing well, and deeply appreciates the outpouring of support she has received during this difficult time".

On being a rapper turned fashion designer and how it's seen as cliche:

On his fashion influence:

On his infamous "I am the voice of this generation" quote:

RAT ATTACK AT RESTAURANT

Customers at a popular fast-food restaurant in the heart of Ocho Rios received a shock during their lunch hour on Friday as they lined up to purchase lunch.

A huge rat fell on to a female customer as she sat in the restaurant enjoying her meal.

Instantly, the afternoon's relative quiet was shattered by ear-shattering screams by the frightened woman and her female friend.

When the other customers, mostly women, realised what was happening, the restaurant became a virtual mad house as they scampered in all directions, some on to chairs, some outside, to avoid the now frightened animal as it too scurried about, trying to get away.

One brave woman showed some guts as the rodent came close to her, giving it a huge kick, sending it slamming against the counter and almost on to a woman standing there.

Lots of screams

The rat fell to the ground, stunned, but soon regained its focus and scampered off, once again sending the women into a frenzy, evoking lots of screams and some amount of laughter.

The rat finally met its end when a man stepped on it.

A STAR reporter who was in the restaurant at the time of the incident tried to speak with the woman who the rat fell on but she was too shaken to respond.

A worker later told a customer that the rat fell out of the air condition unit, which was located above the seat where the woman was sitting.

She said she believed the rat was forced from its nest by the monthly pest control exercise carried out by the restaurant.

Medical officer of health for St Ann, Dr Patrick Wheattle, upon hearing of the incident, immediately delegated a member of his team to investigate.

Dr Wheattle said the Health Department was currently collaborating with the St Ann Parish Council and business owners in an ongoing drive to improve the public-health situation in the parish.

The drive, which includes the education of business owners about public-health practices, started in Discovery Bay and was due to target Ocho Rios, especially the James Avenue area, next week, he disclosed.

Dr Wheattle said the incident should not create any fear or panic in the mind of the public.
MIAMI Pablo Amador was a "regular dad" who made music with his children and shared his gift teaching kids to play piano, a man known for a friendly wave and lending a hand to jump-start a car. And those who knew him say they can't understand why he apparently shot and killed his two daughters, wife and then himself.

TV satellite trucks surrounded the gray-trimmed, white ranch home Wednesday as authorities carried out the family, whom police identified as Pablo Josue Amador, 53; his 45-year-old wife, Maria; and their youngest daughters, Prescilla and Rosa, 14 and 13.

A teenage son escaped the shootings uninjured, calling 911 at 5:58 a.m. as he fled the home, police said. Those who saw him regularly along the quiet, modest street of homes could only wonder what happened.

"It confuses me," said 48-year-old Thelma Vallecillo, whose 13-year-old daughter took piano lessons at the house. "I don't understand."

A biography of Amador posted on a Web site advertising his piano classes says he began studying music in Havana and later earned a degree in the U.S. The U.S. Copyright Office lists 36 compositions by him and a set of photographs. The songs he wrote, many in Spanish, included titles such as "Beautiful Boy" and "Rose of Love," as well as numerous religious selections.

Sarait Betancourt, a 44-year-old school bus driver who lives near the family, said Amador was a Cuban immigrant who has been giving her two sons, ages 9 and 10, piano lessons at his home once a week since 2006.

"He was a marvelous person and a tremendous professor," she said. "People would enter the house, and you just breathed peace."

Amador's two slain daughters, his 16-year-old son, and a college-age daughter all excelled at piano and performed together at church and home as Los Galileos, Betancourt said. Amador said on his Web site that he produced 13 CDs of his children performing.

Authorities have not confirmed that there is a fourth sibling, nor said where the son is now.

Gregorio Montesino, who lives nearby, said music could always be heard coming from the house and children often played in its in-ground pool. He said Amador always waved to greet him.

Amador also said on his Web site that he sang tenor with the Greater Miami Opera chorus and was a soloist at Kendall United Methodist Church, though officials at both places weren't able to confirm that information.

Christina Ruiz, a 23-year-old social work student who lives next to the family, described him as a "regular dad" who helped her grandmother jump-start her car several times but who was known to complain when he was bothered by noise or work being done on her house.

Neighbors said Amador also worked at a music store. His wife had nursing degrees and officials at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis confirmed she was the director of education there, teaching about spinal cord injuries and answering calls from patients looking for the right doctor.___

"I really want to take it to trial," Linda Tye, grandmother of Tatiana Tye told CNN Radio. "She needs to meet her accusers."

Tatiana Tye and a second 16-year-old girl, Jazmine Finley, were indicted earlier this week by a grand jury, Maricopa County, Arizona, prosecutors said in a statement. Although the girls are juveniles, prosecutors released their names and said they will be tried as adults.

Tye is charged with one count of child prostitution and three counts of pandering, or serving as a go-between or liaison for sexual purposes, prosecutors said.

Finley faces nine counts of child prostitution; two counts of receiving earnings of a prostitute; and one count of pandering. All the charges are felonies, prosecutors said.

The two were arrested last week after a five-month investigation, Phoenix police told reporters. Authorities believe Tye and Finley recruited at least five girls, ranging in age from 14 to 17, on the campuses of their high schools, police spokesman Sgt. Andy Hill said in a Monday news briefing posted on the Web site of CNN affiliate KTVK.

"We have a situation of two girls, 16 years old, who are, in essence, pimps," Hill said. "And they ran their own brothel."

The murder of Shelly-Ann Gordon, a student of Frome Technical High School in Westmoreland, is the third tragic incident involving a student of that school in just under two weeks.

Gordon, 14, was found dead in bushes near her home after she was abducted from her house at Hatfield in the parish on Sunday.

According to her father, all four occupants of their house were at home about 9:30 p.m. when a gunman entered and demanded money. "Me tell him say me only have three hundred dollars, two one hundred and two fifty dollar and him take it."

Lie face down

He said the gunman tied him up, set him to lie face down and proceeded to tie up two other relatives before escaping with Shelly-Ann.

The police were called and a search for Shelly-Ann was launched. Due to darkness, the search was abandoned, but continued yesterday when the teen's body was found with the throat slashed.

Signs of a struggle

It has not yet been confirmed whether she was sexually assaulted. But what is obvious is that Shelly-Ann did not go down without a fight as they are visible signs of a struggle and her hair was partially ripped off her head.

Shelly-Ann's grade supervisor said that she "was a very jovial and an avid sports fan". She was part of the Under-15 netball team at her school.

Her death comes one week after one of her schoolmates was shot and injured by gunmen at his home in Smithfield in the community. A few days before this incident, a grade-seven student was killed by a car while crossing the Petersfield main road. He was attending a relative's wake.

Counselling sessions have been arranged for the students who are grieving and will continue throughout this week.

You know, Minister of Education Andrew Holness has impressed me since he assumed his role as minister. He is a bright fellow, which is more than I can say for many of this country's ministers of government - green or orange.

He has taken decisions that I believe will benefit the educational system and subsequently our children. But, even the best of us makes the occasional blunder.

This minister's idea about training teachers to become special constables as a means of curbing crime in high school is *lo**y ridiculous. It is almost as insane as Audley Shaw's suggestion that Jamaica can rise and shine in the shadow of the looming recession in the US economy. Well, not quite that bad but still pretty stupid.

Teachers are already overburdened and underpaid to boot, being educators, parents, counsellors, and generally miracle workers. Now the minister wants them to become cops too? I appreciate that many of our kids are becoming increasingly violent and something needs to be done to restrain these junior criminals, but the answer is not turning teachers into blue-seam cops.

As I write this, I am visualising these select teachers walking into a classroom with MP5s slung over their shoulders, and clad in bullet-proof vests with the word 'police' printed across the chest. At the first sign of trouble; "Boy, sit down before I am forced to unleash my weapon!"

Before long, we'd start getting reports like "A student of (insert school here) was shot dead by a teacher yesterday during a shoot-out in a third-form classroom. Reports said that the teacher approached the classroom where boys were seen acting suspiciously. The teacher confronted the students who opened fire and ran off in different directions. The teacher returned the fire and the wounded boy was eventually discovered bleeding under a desk. He was taken to the school nursing bay where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The police are investigating."

Parent's job

Okay, so that's a bit extreme but, really, teachers have no place being police. The minister would be better served by helping to draft legislation that would make parents accountable for the actions of their children. Whenever a child commits a violent act, he/she and the parents are brought before a tribunal and if found guilty, the child is suspended and the parents fined heavily. If they can't pay the fine, then they are jailed and the child becomes a ward of the state until the sentence is served.

See how long it would take for parents to fall in line then? Everybody understands what clock is striking when they have to pay money. Yes, it sounds desperate but so does turning teachers into policemen and women. Because if that has become the case, why then doesn't the Government just set up police stations within each school?

We have long identified that poor parenting is at the root of the problems concerning student violence. As such, we need to take the pressure off the teachers and start putting it where it belongs, on the parents.

For too long too many kids have been allowed to bring unplanned-for children into this world. There are no consequences facing these young girls and the boys, taxi/bus drivers and dirty old men that impregnate them. In a few years, all these maladjusted kids are unleashed on teachers, who are then expected not only to teach them but 'mother' them as well.

It makes no sense. We cannot win the battle that way. We have to get to these kids before they get to school or better yet before they start being specks in their mothers' eyes.

Chris Brown tells Rihanna Happy Birthday over the phone

rihanna_chris_brown_barbadian_beach_vacation.jpgSince the Chris Brown and Rihannasaga erupted, he has lost several endorsement deals with major companies such as Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company a deal that Chris Brownrecently inked with the company to be the new face of their Doublemint Gum. All his gigs were removed fromSesame Street and many other companies pulled Billboards and TVads.

With all that is lost what seems to matter most to Chris Brown right now is not getting the chance to celebrate with Rihanna on her 21st birthday.

"Happy Birthday Rihanna" - Chris Brown

According to nydailynews.com, "Chris called Rihanna to wish her a happy birthday," an insider tells us. "Hes absolutely trying to get back into her good graces. He knows hes very much in the doghouse right now, and is doing everything he can to show her how sorry he is."If he's out to prove his love, Brown is going to have to do more than play puppy dog. The crooner stands accused of assaulting her during an argument that left her face cut and bruised.

But Brown seems to think a few well-placed birthday gifts can salve his ex's wounds. He has already sent the "Good Girl Gone Bad" singer a diamond bracelet andnecklace, an insider tells us, as well as an iPod Touch. Plus, Brown's mom, Joyce, who is said to adore Rihanna, sent over a bouquet of flowers.

Sound creepy? Unfortunately, the attention seems to be working. RiRi may just reconcile with Brown, say sources.

Acclaimed music producer Don Corleone has stepped up to the challenge with the release of his latest project dubbed the "Double Joint Riddim".

The project which exudes a very 'old skool' vibe, bears all the attributes of something that could be easily mistaken for the works of producing greats Sly and Robbie. Even though Don was always known to be very creative in his musical endeavours.

According to privied information reaching  the completed project sees the likes of upcoming artiste 'Wasp' with a tracks titled "A No Man", which sees him delivering some very edgy social commentary about why the females are fighting our his GOD given asset.

The compilation set to hit the streets soon also features tracks by; Vybz Kartel, Alaine, Bounty Killer, Assassin, Flexxx, Pressure, Bling Dawg and the Gargamel Buju Banton.

Just last month at the recently concluded Reggae Academy Awards both producers we in contention for the coveted title of 'Producer of the Year', but saw their hopes dash when the award was nabbed by Stephen Marley, son of reggae great Bob Marley.

Convicts escape Greek prison by helicopter

In this image made from amateur video footage provided by Alter TV, a helicopterAP  In this image made from amateur video footage provided by Alter TV, a helicopter is seen flying above

ATHENS, Greece For the second time in their lives, two robbers escaped from a high-security Greek prison on Sunday by scaling a rope ladder to a hovering helicopter, authorities said. The escape came amid a gunbattle with guards.

Vassilis Paleokostas, 42, and Alket Rizaj, 34, were picked up by a helicopter that flew over the courtyard of Athens' Korydallos prison on Sunday afternoon. The inmates climbed a ladder thrown to them by a woman passenger, the Ministry of Justice said.

Guards on the ground opened fire and the woman fired back with an automatic rifle, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

Paleokostas and Rizaj escaped from the same prison in the same manner only three years ago.

Later Sunday, an elderly couple found the helicopter abandoned near a highway north of Athens, police said. The pilot was bound, gagged and had a hood over his head. He told police the helicopter was chartered by a couple who said they wanted to go from the town of Itea in central Greece to Athens. The couple had chartered the helicopter a number of times in the previous weeks.

Residents gave conflicting reports about the number of vehicles that sped away from the helicopter's landing site, police said. Police helicopters were scouring the vicinity for any sign of the escaped convicts.

Authorities had at first feared that up to four people might have escaped, but a second count of the prison's inmates confirmed that only two were missing.

Paleokostas and Rizaj were to appear before a magistrate Monday in connection with their previous escape by helicopter on June 4, 2006. That operation had been masterminded by Paleokostas' elder brother Nikos, himself a convicted criminal who escaped from the same prison in 1990 during a mass breakout.

The elder Paleokostas was recaptured by authorities in September 2006 and is still in jail. He has been convicted of 16 bank robberies.

Rizaj, an Albanian immigrant, was also recaptured in September 2006, while Vassilis Paleokostas was apprehended in August 2008. Both men are considered criminals rather than those who commit violence to support political motives.

While on the run, Paleokostas is suspected of masterminding the June 2008 kidnapping of a prominent Greek industrialist, Giorgos Mylonas, who was held for 13 days until his family paid a ransom.

Police are investigating whether Rizaj, during his three-month spell outside prison after his previous escape, was involved in contract killings.

A 60-year-old businessman from the Corporate Area was yesterday charged with incest and indecent assault after allegedly fondling and performing oral sex on his 12-year-old daughter.

IAn employee saw the man sexually abusing his daughter and reported the matter to his son, who contacted the police.

The father was asked to visit the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) offices for questioning but he failed to turn up. He was subsequently arrested by police at his lawyer's office yesterday.

It's understood that the father was accused in the past of sexually abusing his daughters. The three girls, aged 15, 12 and nine, were taken into state care last Thursday.

Perverted acts

A police source disclosed that the father would take the minor in question into his room, at times, where he would carry out the perverted acts on her. The source continued that the 'acts' might have been taking place since the minor was as young as seven.

A CISOCA spokesperson said the accused is being held at a lock-up in the Corporate Area. He should be charged by Thursday.
