Weird but true shark facts

June 7, 2009
Started By PrincessLeah2 Comments
Sharks can sense a drop of *lo** from 2.5 miles away. They can detect one part of *lo** in 100 million parts of water.

Sharks are so powerful that their bite can generate a force of up to 6 tons per square inch.

Sharks, in their 400 million years on earth, have shown an extraordinary ability to resist cancer and other diseases. This has raised hopes among medical researchers that the oceans' most feared predator might turn out to be the cancer patient's best friend. Investigators continue to study the immune system of sharks to see if it can provide the answer to stopping the spread of cancer in humans.

Sharks can live up to 100 years.

The biggest shark is the whale shark which can be up to 50 feet (15 m) long. It has approximately 300 rows of teeth, with hundreds of tiny teeth in each row. It's a filter feeder and sieves enormous amounts of plankton to eat through its gills as it swims. It is also the biggest fish in the sea. The second biggest fish and shark is the basking shark which is about 40 feet (12.3 m) long and is another filter feeder.

Sharks can generate about six and a half tons per square inch of biting force.

Sharks have no bones - a shark's skeleton is made up of cartilage.

The biggest meat-eating shark is the Great White which grows to be up to 21 feet (6.4 m) long. The smallest sharks are the Dwarf Lanternfish (6-7 inches), Spined Pygmy Shark (7 inches) and Pygmy Ribbontail Catshark (6-7 inches).

The dogfish sharks are named for their tendency to attack their prey as a pack of wild dogs would.

The ostrich is often credited with laying the largest eggs, but the largest egg in the world was actually laid by a shark, the whale shark. The egg, 14 inches (36 cm) long, was found in the Gulf of Mexico in 1953.

Sharks can go up to at least 6 weeks without feeding. The record for a shark fasting was observed in an aquarium with the Swell Shark, which did not eat for 15 months.
Blue whale babies weigh up to 7 tonnes at birth.

A female cod can lay up to 9 million eggs.

Snakes can see through their eyelids.

Elephants spend 23 hours a day eating.

Vultures sometimes eat so much they can't take off again.

The Amazon 'Jesus Christ lizard' can run across water.

The biggest Antartic inland animal is a wingless fly measuring about 60 mm long.

Fleas can jump up to 30 cm, twenty times their own body length.

Bluebottle flies can smell meat from distances 7 km away.

Many birds migrate, but the Arctic tern travels furthest. It flies from the Arctic to the Antarctic, and back again, a trip of 32,000 kilometers.

Some animals can regrow parts of their bodies if damaged. Starfish can grow new 'arms.' Slow-worms can regrow broken-off tails. Lizards can grow new tails.

One golden poison-dart frog could kill up to 1500 people with its poison.

The giant squid has the largest eyes of any animal. They can be 39 cm across, which is 16 times wider than a human eye.

The peregrine falcon can spot its prey from more than 8 km away.

The sleepiest mammals are armadillos, sloths and opossums. They spend 80 per cent of their lives sleeping or dozing.

A mayfly only lives one day, but a tortoise can expect to live 100 years.

Stegosaurus was one of the most famous of the dinosaurs and was an impressive 9 metres long. But its brain was the size of a walnut.

Actor David Carradine, a born seeker and cult idol who broke through as the willing student called gra**hopper in the 1970s TV series Kung Fu and decades later as leader of an assassin squad in Kill Bill, was found dead Thursday in Thailand. Police said he appeared to have hanged himself.

The officer responsible for investigating the death, Teerapop Luanseng, said the 72-year-old actor was staying at a suite at the luxury Swissotel Nai Lert Park Hotel.

I can confirm that we found his body, naked, hanging in the closet, Teerapop said. He said police suspected suicide.

Oh oh, a Poor and Boasy again. Riding on the success of being crowned the male winner of the Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall competion 2009, word has been circulating that the young artiste has joined forces with dancehall giants, the Alliance.

"Well, we nuh sign nuh contract still, but mi nah lie to yuh, Killer and Mavado, dem a tek Poor and Boasy to the world," Poor and Boasy, whose real name is Omar Johnson, told THE STAR.

Outside of Poor and Boasy's focus on getting a firm foot within the Alliance, he has had to constantly answer questions from fans who are curious to find out how he has been spending his million.

"everybody know say mi nuh born come see nuh luxury, suh as soon as sup'm start tek a turn fi di better, people a go start talk whole heap a things, an dem nuh really know what a gwaan," he said.

"All now mi nuh get the money what mi win yet, an mi nah rush that, 'cause mi dream was to win the competition - now that mi win it what mi a go do?" he questioned.

Zumjay loving army life

June 7, 2009

Now a member of the United States Army Reserves, dancehall artiste Zumjay says he has no intentions of going back to music full-time. Zumjay, real name Rohan Stephens, visited THE STAR yesterday. During the interview, he explained that he joined the army because he did not want his life to be determined by music. "I joined the army to do music how I want to do music. I don't want my life to be determined by whether or not a selector or disc jock want to play my songs or if someone wants to put me on a show," Zumjay told THE STAR. "I want to make sure that my family is still okay. I joined the military as a cushion. I am not gonna be a 50-year-old man and still doing music because I need to do music. By that time, I should be comfortable," he said. Zumjay moved to the US in 2007 after getting married in 2006 to Aviesha Palmer, an insurance broker. He said he decided to move to the country because he wanted to be close to his wife. solid future In 2008, Zumjay said he joined the army reserves because of the benefits and the solid future it would provide for himself and his family, which now includes his one-year-old daughter. "It's just three years out of my life. I will enjoy all the benefits whether I am in the army or not because I joined in war time. So, I am automatically a veteran," said the artiste, who will be deployed to the Middle East in September. Being in the reserves, he only reports to his unit one weekend out of every month. During the rest of the month, he attends Borough of Manhattan Community College where he is doing a degree in video arts technology. Although he still records singles and does performances mainly in the US, Zumjay admits there are times when he misses the Jamaican music scene. "Sometimes I definitely feel like I am missing out, but I know that the sacrifices I am making are worthwhile," he said with hints of an American accent. However, he does not believe his musical career would have been much different. Zumjay is currently in Jamaica promoting his single Rich/Making Money, which was produced by Full Blast Muzik. While here, he also recorded Sherlock Swag with the Sherlock Family. After leaving Jamaica next week, he will return to the island to shoot the video for Rich/ Making Money. But before leaving for his one-year stint in the Middle East, he has several shows in the United States and Jamaica and Zumjay says he is not worried about what will happen when he goes to the Middle East. "A my road this weh mi a haffi trod to fulfil my duty as a man and as a soldier and live my life to the fullest. I know I will miss my family but each day I am there will be one more day closer to seeing my family and friends," Zumjay told THE STAR.

With the reunion of two major entertainment forces - party organisers Absolute Entertainment and liquor sponsors Appleton Rum - the directors of Appleton Temptation Isle (ATI) are promising one of the best Independence party weekends from August 5-9 in Negril. Key to the success, say the organisers, is the chemistry and vision both entities share. Absolute Entertainment's head honcho Alex Chin revealed to The Sunday Gleaner some of the plans for this year's ATI.

ATI has built a reputation as an impeccable party experience. How will you top what you've done over the last nine years?

The key to our ATI Negril weekend is consistent top-quality entertainment and value for money. Among our 11 events this year, we will be featuring eight all-inclusive events and live performances, featuring top local artistes.

We have unified parties from Absolute Temptation Isle and Appleton Treasure Isle to give our guests the best of both worlds. So, in addition to our favourite flagship parties, we have added three new established events.

There was a little confusion earlier whether Absolute Entertainment would partner with Appleton again. Care to clarify?

Absolute Entertainment and Appleton Rum, after careful deliberations, have decided to rejoin forces to deliver what most thought would never happen again - the return of the original ATI Weekend, Appleton Temptation Isle.

Appleton Jamaica Rum is our new title sponsor, and as we have both been the dominant forces in Negril for the past three years, a union such as this can only be seen as the Ultimate Negril Weekend.

Absolute also planned RTI for two years. What has happened to that brand?

That brand will no longer be present or advertised in Negril. It was formulated in accordance with the requests of our title sponsor at the time, and since they no longer hold that position that associated brand has been shelved.

What are some of the signature parties that are a part of ATI this year?

Our signature events include Stages, Wildsides, Pretty in Pink, Joker's Wild Colours, Tempted, Rhythm and Booze and Hip Hop J'Ouvert.

And it has been extended to five days instead of four, correct?

That's correct. Our events commence on Wednesday, August 5, with the ATI Kick-off party and concludes on Sunday, August 9, with Wildsides and Fusion.

What are some of the ATI parties leading up to the main event?

We have several ATI lead-up events spread across the months of June and July that we have branded 'Appleton Summer of Rum'. Our events include:

Kingston

Extatic Fridays at Cuddy'z, ATI Quad Wednesdays and Martini Mondays

Ocho Rios

ATI Fridays at Hard Rock

Montego Bay

ATI Pier Pressure at Pier One, Temperature, UTI, Appleton Desire

Mandeville

ATI at Beavers

What was the motivation for starting ATI in 2001?

We saw the success of the Spring Break events in Negril and noted that something similar would work during the summer for primarily Jamaicans. We selected the Independence weekend as it was traditionally a three-day holiday and would work perfectly. The multi-party formula, spread across day and night-time, was designed to create a similar party-hopping vibe of South Beach in Miami and Ibiza in Spain, but with an added dimension of non-stop partying.

The event has now grown to the stage where it is a flagship event on the entertainment calendar, attracts hundreds of tourists and is a major revenue generator for the town of Negril and the hotels, which is key now that Spring Break activities are not as strong as they used to be. Our motivation for producing ATI has matured since 2001 and we now envisage it to be an internationally renowned event that can attract more tourists to Negril and be a significant revenue generator for Jamaica.

There seems to be a special aura about Negril in early August. What is there about Negril on a summer day why it's such a great venue for a party, such as ATI?

Negril was made for ATI and ATI was made for Negril. Nothing can compare to 30,000 tanned bodies on seven miles of white-sand beach, partying by day under brilliant Jamaican sunshine, and by night under a clear, starlit sky, at the biggest and best open-air parties Negril has to offer. Case closed.

ATI in Negril during Independence weekend is a living breathing commercial for how to really enjoy life.

Bootlegger guilty

A Kingston man who was caught selling bootleg DVD movies was fined $25,000 when he pleaded guilty to breaches of the Copyright Act in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

Richard Banting, 28, of a Tivoli Gardens address in Kingston, was charged on May 30, after he was caught with 45 bootleg DVD movies. Banting will have to pay the fine or spend 30 days in prison.

The facts are that the police were on patrol along Barnett Street in Montego Bay, when the accused was seen selling the DVDs. He was accosted and taken to the Montego Freeport Police Station where he was charged. Under caution, he said, "Officer, mi jus a juggle."

Urban music favourite and movie star-turned- fashionista, Eve, returns to CFW this year, but this time as performer. Eve, who says that she is thrilled to be back at CFW for the second straight year, will perform some of her rap classics on Sunday, June 14.

This year's performers and celebrities in attendance, such as Nia Long, Eve and Grammy winner Kelly Rowland, as women rule both stage and runway at CFW 2009.

As Pulse ups the ante for this year's ninth anniversary, a star-studded line-up is headed
to Jamaica for Caribbean Fashionweek, Pulse stated in a release. The stars will perform, walk the runway and grace the front row at CFW. They have promised more than a few surprises during their special guest appearances at the event. A number of other local and international stars including Tessanne and Tami Chynn, D'Angel and Cherine Anderson will also perform. Nia Long returns as host. Kelly Rowland will be making her first appearance in Jamaica as a solo performer.

Eve, famous for a range of film roles including the Barber Shop series, continues to have a very successful music career after bursting on the scene in the 1990s with such hits as Gotta Man, What Ya'll Want
and Love Is Blind. Her exploration of her singing voice, separate and apart from her hardcore rap, guaranteed her international success on such tracks as Who's That Girl, Let Me Blow Your Mind with Gwen Stephani of No Doubt and Gangsta Loving with Alicia Keyes, gave rise to a whole new fan base. From her fourth studio album titled Here I
Am, the Blonde B****shell released Tamborine, an upbeat international dance anthem. The follow-up track Give It To You, a reggae-influenced song featuring our own Sean Paul, enjoyed great success. Eve now has her own celebrity line Fetish, which she presented at CFW last year.

The Media Association of Jamaica (MAJ) has still not sent its list of 200 blacklisted songs ranging from Bob Marley to Kanye West that it fears will violate the stricter on-air standards set by the Broadcast Commission of Jamaica (BCJ).

"The commission has not received any correspondence from the MAJ referring to or including a list of songs," the BCJ communication manager Nicole Morrison told the Observer. The MAJ was unavailable for comment, but a source at the MAJ said that the publishing of the apparent list in the Observer two weeks ago meant "that the MAJ may take a different direction". The implication being that the BCJ would have already seen the list in question. The MAJ contemplated sending the list as early as two weeks ago. The BCJ said it was, however, holding meetings with individual media houses to discuss their concerns.

"The commission has already begun a series of consultations with media houses from as early as March. These consultations have continued with members of the commission visiting licensees in St Ann this month and plans to visit licensees in St James and Westmoreland in June," said the BCJ.

The list of recordings was compiled by the MAJ which has been trying, in discussions with the commission, to clear up grey areas in relation to the regulator's directive banning music with lyrics that are deemed to be sexually explicit and/or promoting violence. The list of 200 songs was not exhaustive and could grow to 600 the MAJ president told the Observer in May.

Although the MAJ has not made public its list, an extensive catalogue has been circulated on the website Facebook.com among friends with an interest in entertainment.

Mavado's So Special, Vybz Kartel's Million Dollar By a Mawnin, Buju Banton's Driva, Busy Signal's Done Wid Di War, Kayne West's It All Falls Down, Akon's Beautiful, Morgan Heritage's Brooklyn, Bob Marley's Guava Jelly, Mutabaruka's By The Bullet By The Ballot, Lionel Richie's All Night Long, The Mighty Sparrow's Dragon Dance, Roberta Flack's Killing Me Softly, Diana Ross' I'm Coming Out, and The O'Jays' Let Me Make Love To You are just a few of the titles on the Facebook list.

The Broadcasting Commission's ban on music with sexually explicit lyrics, particularly recordings referring to daggering (a popular dancehall dance in which sex is simulated) triggered fierce debate earlier this year, with opponents accusing the regulator of bias against dancehall.

The commission denied the accusation but eventually included soca music, a move that resulted in local TV stations abandoning their plans to provide live telecast of the annual carnival parade through the streets of Kingston.

Under the commission's directive, music with lyrics that need to be bleeped out (edited) are not deemed fit for airplay. Media houses can have their licences suspended if they broadcast three songs in violation of the directive, Allen said in outlining the urgency of the list. "We would really like there to be a dialogue with the regulator," he added at the time.

The BCJ told the Observer that it does not address individual songs as its directive covers content.

Nanny of the Maroons' sexuality was questioned by Ronald Cummings of the University of Leeds-UK, asserting that the most homophobic country in the western hemisphere has a "speculative queer genealogy" amongst its national heroes.

Cummings called national hero Nanny a 'man royal' (masculine female) in the trajectory that includes butch-lesbians.

The evidence given is that the historical and literary accounts of Nanny utilise masculine descriptors. Cummings was invited to present at the Caribbean Studies Association (CSA) conference last week in Jamaica, but he missed his flight so Kei Miller, a UK/Jamaica scholar, read his paper instead.

"I swear that Ronald's visa didn't work out just so he wouldn't have to present on a paper that was basically outing Nanny," quipped Miller of the University of Glasgow, Scotland.

But Cummings wrote that he was less concerned about labelling Nanny as lesbian and more concerned with her gender-bending characteristics. His paper was entitled Nanny of the Maroons and the genealogy of the Man Royal: constructing a speculative queer Jamaican genealogy.

"It is easy to situate Nanny of the Maroons in the genealogy of the man royal," Cummings wrote in his paper. "I am not so much concerned with sexual subjectivity but rather with the subversion and or complication of the systemic gender binarisms that Nanny has historically or more so literary (analysis) enacts."

Nanny led the Maroons against the British in the First Maroon War from 1720 to 1739. In 1740, the crown offered five hundred acres of land to Nanny and those she led - called... Nanny Town. It was a huge victory for the former slaves to defeat the British army - then the world's superpower.

"Nanny is mentioned only four times in official archives and only in a fragmented and contradictory manner," wrote Cummings, citing previous work done by historian and poet Kamau Brathwaite in Wars of Respect. He adds that her characteristics are mostly known via folklore including stories about her catching bullets in her behind.

Added Cummings: "Thus the historical moment of Nanny's actual existence is less important here than the consideration of the sight and moment of the figurative existence, both the historical and literary (writing)."

Cummings found interesting the man royal traits in H Thomas' account on Nanny published in 1890.

"Nanny is described as 'ferocious and *lo**-thirsty more than any man among the maroons'. Thomas also describes Nanny as an unsexed woman," wrote Cummings. "This unsexing serves to mark her imposing bodily comportments which he reads as threatening. It also refers to the masculine female body which he renders in terms of grotesque and hence necessarily outside the realm of heterosexual desire."

Cummings also cites "a memoir published in 1788 there is reference to 'the old hag who cast sentence and death among an enforced man and English officer' believed to be Nanny. She is further described, 'She had a girdle around her waist, with, and I speak with encompass, nine or ten egret knives hanging'".

Cummings cites Lorna Goodison's poem on Nanny, as an example of the conflict between warrior and woman: "My w**** was sealed with molten wax of killer bees for nothing should enter nothing should leave."

Cummings wrote. "Nanny maybe figuratively located in the Jamaican genealogy of the man royal. In these cited representations I suggest that Nanny is marked by various tensions around issues of gender normativity and hetero-normativity. Like the figure of the man royal she disrupts the coded system of gender binaries and simultaneously contained within its crutches of representation."

The CSA is an independent professional organisation which promotes multidisciplinary research of the Caribbean. It is an association for regional and international scholars and practitioners. Founded in 1974 by 300 Caribbeanists, the CSA now has over 1100 members.

Reggae royalty, Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley, and rap luminary, Nas, will deliver a special performance together on Saturday, July 25, on International Night II at Reggae Sumfest.

"It's not a Nas performance, and it's not a Damian Marley performance, it's going to be a Nas and Damian Marley c****ination, specially for Reggae Sumfest," said Johnny Gourzong, executive director of Summerfest Productions, in a media release.

brightest stars

Gourzong said that the pairing was the result of extensive thought by the Reggae Sumfest team on improving this year's event.

He emphasised that this is the first time that Nas will be performing in Jamaica, and added that it "will be an even more special performance since he will be performing with one of our brightest stars in reggae music, a son of the great Robert Nesta Marley, and on the stage of Reggae Sumfest. I'm excited, they are working on a collaborative album, and the sounds of reggae with the beats of hip hop should make for a great performance."

Another confirmed international act that will be rocking the Reggae Sumfest stage is R&B sensation Jazmine Sullivan on Friday, July 24.

live performances

"We are arranging for other international performers, but we're not ready to release who we're considering. You'll just have to wait a little longer," said Gourzong.

The festival, which starts with a beach party on Sunday, July 19 and then has three nights of live performances from Thursday, July 23 to Saturday, July 25, will also feature, Bounty Killer, Mavado, Etana, Tarrus Riley, Busy Signal, Charley Blacks, I-Octane and a host of other local talents.

As part of the STAR of the month feature with Junior Reid and his sons, here is part 1 of Junior 'One *lo**' Reid's bio. Look out for part 2 in Monday's STAR.

To date, Jamaican-born singer Junior Reid, a devout Rastafarian regarded by many as 'a messenger from Jah', is best known for hit singles, 'Foreign Mind', 'One *lo**', 'Boom Shak-a-Lak' and 'Listen to the Voices'. He also served as the lead singer for the Grammy Award-winning Reggae group, Black Uhuru.

Born on June 6, Delroy 'Junior' Reid grew up in the Waterhouse community of St Andrew, Reid began his career at an early age, gaining his initial inspiration from a tough upbringing.

He recorded his first single, Know Myself, at age 14 for the late singer Hugh Mundell, released in the UK on the Greensleeves label. He then went on to form his own band, 'The Voice of Progress' and, after a local hit with Minibus Driver, the group's success was established with the album of the same name.

At the age of 18, Reid was asked to join Black Uhuru as lead singer. The group completed its transformation to international status while he was a member, nominated twice for a Grammy Award in the Reggae category. After many changes in the music business and an agreed separation among the members of Black Uhuru, Reid returned to the solo arena and started his own production company, J.R. Productions.

first solo album

Now a solo artiste again, Reid recorded a number of songs for J.R. Productions and Sugar Minott's Youthman Promotion label, enjoying considerable popularity with tracks such as Human Nature, A-1 Lover, Uplifting and Proud Statement. In 1988, he released his first solo album, One *lo**. The One *lo** single was remixed by Paul 'Trouble' Anderson and released worldwide on Big Life/Mercury Records. That track and Long Road received nominations for the prestigious Caribbean Music Awards and the Jamaica Music Industry Awards. He won awards for Best Album, Best Single, Best Song and Most Conscious Lyrics at the Jamaica Music Industry Awards.

The follow-up to One *lo** was the album, Visa, which was distributed by the Greensleeves and Ras labels in addition to his J.R. Productions label.

world stage

During his music career, Reid has performed around the globe from Bermuda to Japan. He has proven to be a durable and popular entertainer on the world stage. In 1993, after a winning performance in Jamaica at the Montego Bay Superfest, Reid toured Europe alongside Sugar Minott, the 809 Band and Dub poet Mutabaruka.

Reid was also featured on the biggest one-night show in Jamaica, Sting, from 1996 to '98. Following exceptional performances at Sting and other shows, he was offered a starring role in the Jamaican film Klash, produced by Billy Parker.

In 1997 Reid produced the album True World Order. He performed on the True World Order Tour in the United States and United Kingdom. He also teamed up with Busta Rhymes and Bounty Killer to record the hit single Change Like the Weather. He recorded the single Dreadful Day with rappers Poor Righteous Teachers and, joined by the artiste Cannibus, recorded the song Frounsi Sound Bwoy for the Universal label.

JFF, KSAFA find solution

June 7, 2009
Started By shawndj0 Comments

The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) and the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) have reached an agreement regarding the branding of referees' uniforms, thus paving the way for the immediate resumption of all of the latter's competition's.

According to Dale Spencer, first vice-president of the JFF, a meeting was held with the executives of both associations at JFF offices yesterday, and in the best interest of the sport, an agreement was reached in accordance with a recent directive of his association.

emergency board meeting

Spencer, who chaired the meeting on behalf of JFF president Captain Horace Burrell and general manager, Horace Reid, who are both in Europe attending a FIFA Congress, also informed the media following the impromptu meeting that an emergency board meeting would soon be held to help bring closure to the matter.

"We had a very successful meeting with executives of both associations and have come to an understanding that will allow for the resumption of KSAFA competitions," Spencer explained.

The meeting came about after KSAFA president, Rudolf Speid, suspended all of its competitions due to what it described as a conflict of interest with a recent JFF directive.

The directive stated that all parish association referees, including KSAFA's, must wear Digicel-branded uniforms only, a directive which Speid said threatened the sponsorship of KSAFA's competitions from competing telecom company, Claro.

"We have reached an amicable agreement," was all that Speid would say after yesterday's meeting.

Meanwhile, Digicel, seeking to clarify its position on the dispute, issued a release via its corporate affairs manager, Jacqueline Burrell, and expressed hope that a resolution would be arrived at in the best interest of the sport.

pivotal role

"It is unfortunate that this conflict of interest has brought the game of football into disrepute. We recognise that football plays a pivotal role in strengthening the social and economic thread of Jamaica," the release read.

"Notwithstanding that, Digicel respects the stance that the JFF has taken to honour the terms and conditions of a legally binding contract that was signed between Digicel and the Referees Association of Jamaica in September 2008.

"At this point, resolution of this matter lies solely with the JFF and KSAFA. It is our hope, however, that a resolve can be reached as soon as possible in the interest of the sport and its positive impact on Jamaica and Jamaican lives," she added.

In September 2008, Digicel and the JFF signed a three-year sponsorship contract worth $6.5M. The provisions of this contract cover the training and development of referees, including the provision of uniforms and warm-up gear for all referees.

It's an extremely busy weekend for members of the Alliance, who are running the Dancehall now with smashes like Mavado's Mock and Toast, Chase Cross' Better Days and many more.

Having made huge strides in the mainstream recently, Mavado and Serani are appearing on the two biggest urban events this summer in the North East of the United States.

Kicking off the weekend on Friday night, Mavado and Serani will be at the XL Center in Hartford, Connecticut, for Hot 937's Hot Jam 8 concert.

Having struck a chord with listeners with their songs No Games and So Special, Serani and Mavado are the only dancehall acts billed to appear. International acts include Soulja Boy, Bow Wow, Day 26, newcomers Kid Cudi (Day and Night) and Jeremih (Birthday Sex).

Serani is appearing at an after party in the West Indian Social Club in Hartford the same night after the show. On Friday night, Bounty Killer will be in action inside Club Amazura, Queens, New York. Saturday night will see the Alliance rolling into Boston's Club Lido for another show featuring Bounty Killer, Mavado and Serani.

On Sunday, Mavado and Serani will take the stage inside the Giants Stadium in New York. Bounty Killer's Scare Dem protégé, Elephant Man, is also on the bill alongside Jadakiss, The Dream, Mary J. Blige, Young Jeezy, T-Pain and Friends and the Dipset Crew.

"Its the first time that HOT 97 has advertised dancehall acts so heavily for Summer Jam," said Julian Jones-Griffith, manager for Mavado and Serani. "HOT are even running ads just featuring the dancehall artistes! It's a giant step for the music and is certainly a culmination of all the hard work we've put into trying to break dancehall into the mainstream over the last year, after many artistes have put in the foundation work before us."

Capping off a busy weekend for the Alliance, Bling Dawg, Flex and KipRich are all on the same bill in Atlanta, at Club Intrigue, aka Club Aquarius, on Saturday night.

Theres an interesting article by Steven Jackson in todays Jamaica Observer newspaper that speaks to an ongoing debate about the authenticity of what we call dancehall today, vs. dancehall in the 1980s and 1990s. The article references a pioneering dancehall riddim producer Cleveland Brownie - of Steely and Clevie fame - who argues that dancehall is no longer dancehall and that millennium dancehall should be classified under a different name. Brazil: Bodies found near Air France crash site

Plane crashed into Atlantic earlier this week, killing all 228 aboard

PARIS - Searchers found two bodies and a briefcase containing a ticket for Air France Flight 447 in the Atlantic Ocean close to where the jetliner is believed to have crashed, a Brazil military official said Saturday.

The French agency investigating the disaster, meanwhile, said airspeed instruments on the plane were not replaced as the maker recommended before it disappeared in turbulent weather nearly a week ago.

Air France acknowledged on Saturday that speed monitors on Airbus planes have proven faulty, icing up at high altitude, and that recommendations to change them were first made in September 2007. Air France said it began replacing the monitors on the Airbus A330 model on April 27.

The French accident investigation agency, BEA, found the doomed plane received inconsistent airspeed readings by different instruments as it struggled in a massive thunderstorm on its flight with 228 people aboard.

Airbus had recommended to all its airline customers that they replace speed-measuring instruments known as Pitot tubes on the A330, the model used for Flight 447, said Paul-Louis Arslanian, the head of the agency.

"They hadn't yet been replaced" on the plane that crashed, said Alain Bouillard, head of the French investigation. Air France declined immediate comment.

Arslanian of the BEA cautioned that it is too early to draw conclusions about the role of Pitot tubes in the crash, saying that "it does not mean that without replacing the Pitots that the A330 was dangerous."

He told a news conference at the agency's headquarters, near Paris that the crash of Flight 447 also does not mean similar plane models are unsafe, adding that he told family members not to worry about flying.

Airbus had made the recommendation for "a number of reasons," he said.

Recovery of bodies, ticket
The two male bodies were recovered Saturday morning about 45 miles south of where Air Flight 447 emitted its last signals roughly 400 miles northeast of the Fernando de Noronha islands off Brazil's northern coast.

One recovered body was still strapped in the seat with a boarding card for Flight 447, according to NBC News reports.

Brazilian Air force spokesman Col. Jorge Amaral said an Air France ticket was also found inside a leather briefcase.

"It was confirmed with Air France that the ticket number corresponds to a passenger on the flight," he said.

Brazilian authorities refused to comment on how the discovery of the bodies may affect the search for crucial black box flight recorders that could tell investigators why the jet crashed.

The investigation is increasingly focused on whether external instruments may have iced over, confusing speed sensors and leading computers to set the plane's speed too fast or slow a potentially deadly mistake in severe turbulence.

Pitot tubes, protruding from the wing or fuselage of a plane, feed airspeed sensors and are heated to prevent icing. A blocked or malfunctioning Pitot tube could cause an airspeed sensor to work incorrectly and cause the computer controlling the plane to accelerate or decelerate in a potentially dangerous fashion.

Air France has already replaced the Pitots on another Airbus model, the 320, after its pilots reported similar problems with the instrument, according to an Air France air safety report filed by pilots in January and obtained by The Associated Press.

24 messages
The report followed an incident in which an Air France flight from Tokyo to Paris reported problems with its airspeed indicators similar to those believed to have been encountered by Flight 447. In that case, the Pitot tubes were found to have been blocked by ice.

"Following similar problems frequently encountered on the A320 fleet, preventative actions have already been decided and applied," the safety report says. The Pitots on all Air France's A320s were retrofitted with new Pitots "less susceptible to these weather conditions."

The same report says Air France decided to increase the inspection frequency for its A330 and A340 jets' Pitot tubes, but that it had been waiting for a recommendation from Airbus before installing new Pitots.

As they try to locate the wreckage, investigators are relying on 24 messages the plane sent automatically during the last minutes of the flight.

The signals show the plane's autopilot was not on, officials said, but it was not clear if the autopilot had been switched off by the pilots or had stopped working because it received conflicting airspeed readings.

The flight disappeared nearly four hours after takeoff, killing all on board. It was Air France's deadliest plane crash and the world's worst commercial air accident since 2001.

The head of France's weather forecasting agency, Alain Ratier, said weather conditions at the time of the flight were not exceptional for the time of the year and region, which is known for violent stormy weather.

n500162975_375061_3387.jpg A psychiatric evaluation report is to be presented to the court today (Wednesday, June 3, 2009) on 21-year-old Stephen Fray the man who attempted to hijack a Canadian plane at the Sangster International Airport in April.

Mr. Fray is also expected in court Wednesday.

During his last appearance on May 18, the case was postponed as the report which was ordered by the judge had not been completed.

On Sunday April 19, Mr. Fray evaded security at Sangster International and entered a Canjet plane with a gun.

He eventually released the passengers, but held the flight crew hostage for more than eight hours before a special military team stormed the aircraft and arrested him.

Two more policemen were arrested and charged for alleging collecting money to provide a foreign national with a Jamaican passport.

A release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), stated that Det. Sergeant Winston Pollack and Constable Tyrone Bryan both were arrested on Thursday, June 4 by the Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) on reasonable suspicion for breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act and Conspiracy to commit a criminal offence.

It is alleged that in February of this year the complainant, who is the proprietor of a supermarket and wholesale in St. Catherine, paid the Detective Sergeant a total of $115,000 to obtain a Jamaican passport.

The complainant, who is a foreign national is the holder of a work permit to work in Jamaica and was not entitled to a Jamaican passport.

Pollack allegedly conspired with Bryan by paying him some of the money to employ another individual to secure the passport.

This passport was eventually obtained and handed over to the complainant.

On Thursday of this week, the complainant visited the Passport Office where he used the said passport as a means of identification in applying for a passport for his daughter. During this process Immigration officials discovered that the passport was not genuine.

The Anti-Corruption investigators were then called in and an investigation led to the arrest of the two police personnel. Both policemen are presently in custody to be interviewed in the presence of their attorneys.

The Anti-Corruption Branch is advising members of the public to use official agencies of government when seeking to obtain official documents and to report all instances of suspected corruption to the Anti-Corruption Branch.

Members of the public are also encouraged to contact the Anti Corruption Branch through its secured 1-800-CORRUPT line.

The Love Over All Foundation, is an organization created by Ky-mani Marley as a means of giving back. This charitable organization not only caters to the upliftment of children - Ky-manis number one priority - but Love Over All is also focused on restoring values, rebuilding schools and supplying the basic necessities needed in the classrooms, as well as the community.

Born in Falmouth, Trelawny, Ky-mani has always been passionate about returning to his birthplace and doing his part to assist the residents in the community. Earlier this year, Ky-mani and his friend Lumba Green, also from Falmouth, decided to just do it. They revisited Falmouth where they immediately put their plan into action.

Re-evaluating, refurbishing and repainting.
Thats the order. Rebuilding!
Since Falmouth All Age School is right by the seaside, Ky-manis plans include building a patio so the school will have a proper entrance, thus keeping away the dirt and mud. A new netball court and a refurbished soccer field is also on Ky-manis to do list. This project is dear to his heart and donations have already poured in to assist the foundation with expenses.

While concentrating their efforts on providing computers, books, uniforms and soccer jerseys for the students, Ky-mani and Lumba took time out to treat the almost 800 students to lunch. They were also on hand to provide and present trophies on sports day to the schools athletes. Realizing that these children deserve the best of the present and a reason to look towards the future, the Love Over All Foundation is all action no talking.

Currentlly, the Foundations website is under construction and Ky-mani is optimistic about the future with regards to
this project. The plan is to rebuild one step at a time. There is strength in numbers and Ky-mani plans to execute with Love-Over All.

NINJAMAN REMAINS IN JAIL

Dancehall deejay Ninjamans case was heard in court earlier this week, but he will have to wait until Friday, June 19 to know whether or not his lawyers application for bail on his behalf was successful. The Prosecution strongly opposed bail for Ninjaman, his twenty-one year old son and other co-accused, indicating that the accused men were a fight risk.

All three face charges of murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearm stemming from the March 2009 murder of a man in the Marl Road area of Olympic Gardens.

The horrifying killing spree, which has been rocking St James within recent weeks, claimed yet another victim on Friday night with the gangland-style murder of a taxi operator along the volatile Sun Valley Road on the outskirts of downtown Montego Bay.

The deceased, who suffered multiple bullet wounds, has been identified as 41-year-old Richard Wollery of a Bottom Pen address, also in St James. Another man, who was reportedly engaged in a conversation with the dead taxi operator at the time of the incident, was also shot and injured.

Stable condition

Reports are that, shortly after 8:30 p.m., Wollery was sitting in his car having a discussion with another man, who was standing outside the vehicle, when two gunmen approached them and opened fire.

Wollery and his companion were both rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead and the other man admitted in a stable condition.

"This has been a most frustrating week for us because all we seem to be doing is running from one murder scene to another," said a senior St James crime fighter, who asked not to be identified. "Personally, I think we are in a state of anarchy because our protect-and-serve mandate is under serious threat from these killers."

Wollery's killing comes sharply on the heels of the mayhem that unfolded in the Mount Carey community shortly after 10:40 on Thursday night.

Shooting melee

In one incident, marauding gunmen killed 31-year-old Howard Stephens in a shooting melee, while in the another instance, unknown persons beheaded 27-year-old Marvin Grant.

"If me hear a trash mash right now me jump," said an elderly Mt Carey resident, who seemed traumatised by the shootings. "Who coulda tell me se me woulda live fi si we good, good Mt Carey tun inna gun town."

Despite several new policing initiatives instituted by the St James Police High Command to c****at the rampant criminality, which resulted in a record 178 murders last year. There have been 58 murders in the parish this year.

50 CENT BRINGS IN THE BIG GUNS!

50 Cent is not playing anymore, from what I've heard. I hear the G-Unit General is right out in Los Angeles working on new material. And guess who I am hearing he is working with? My sources tell me that 50 Cent is now working with Timbaland and Polow Da Don for his looming album. That's basically it.

CHAMILLIONAIRE TO RETIRE?????

Alright, Here's the deal on Chamillionaire. He had a live video chat going Wednesday night on his site. He had some big news. The Venom album will NOT be coming out EVER. He says is going to drop Mixtape Messiah 7 sometime soon. But after that...he says NO more mixtapes. He said he just isn't feeling rap like he used to. It's not the same anymore. He talked for over a half and hour to about 2000 people who were logged on. Now on his website it reads "The End Becomes Clear 6-12-09." Goes this mean that hes retiring soon? Sure doesnt sound reassuring! Shout out to Jordan.

DRAKE ROBBED?

So, when I don't believe rumor, I totally will admit that I don't believe it. With that said, I heard a rumor that Drake had almost gotten robbed at the end of May in Toronto. The source said that it was a failed attempt at Vivoli's Italian Restaurant in Toronto. They said that he was with a female and was robbed at gunpoint for his wallet and watch. The person said that one of the crooks was captured and bagged. So, I don't know if this is bogus or if it was kept quiet.

THE JEWELRY JUX GOING ON IN H-TOWN?

There is a jeweler in Houston Texas and he's got some people very upset. From what I understand, he's the guy that makes a lot of the jewels for the likes of Plies, Gucci Mane, Slim Thug and others like Lil Boosie. The person that hit me up said that this particular jeweler isn't doing right by his clientele. He told me that his "boy went to get his s**t appraised and another jewelry store showed him that is piece was fake all metal not real gold and it was just plated with some foggy diamonds." I hope this isn't the case, but we'll soon find out, I bet!

KERI HILSON GOING TO BE SUED?

A talent agency in Atlanta is allegedly and rumored to be threatening to sue Keri Hilson and Universal Music Group over thousands of unpaid dollars for the services. A source told me that this talent agency in The A charges that they were outsourced to use its dancers rendered to the R&B artist. Some of the invoices go back to one year ago, they are alleging. I'm not sure who is behind this, but I can say they are HEATED.

GHOSTFACE TO RETURN ON THE R&B TIP?

The New Ghostface is on the way! Hes one of my favorite rappers. What I am hearing is that he is going to have a different sound when he comes back out. I am hearing that Ghost is going to have more of an R&B sound to it and hes going to be working with Mary J. Blige on his first song. Remember when he did that remix of Beyonces Summertime? I am hearing that it will be flavored like that. Not mad! Here is the song by Ghostface!

MTV Writer Admits 'Bruno' Stunt Was Staged

by Mike Krumboltz pseudoblog_whitedot.gif June 2, 2009

Photo by Kevin Mazur, WireImage On Sunday night, when Sacha Baron Cohen's alter-ego Bruno descended from the rafters and landed fanny-first on Eminem's head, most folks figured that the rapper's rage was the real deal. *u*kers! Not only was Eminem in on the joke, he and Baron Cohen rehearsed it to make sure it would all go according to plan.

Suspicions over the legitimacy of "butt-gate" had been brewing for days, but it wasn't until a writer for the MTV Movie Awards confessed that we all knew for sure. On his blog, head writer Scott Aukerman wrote that the incident was staged. "They rehearsed it at dress (rehearsal) and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show." Wow. Let it never be said that Eminem isn't a team player.

According to the New York Daily News, Eminem wasn't Baron Cohen's first choice for the joke. That honor, which was tragically declined, went to Paris Hilton. Just imagine the buzz had that happened. Still, Eminem did a great job of selling the stunt considering he "may not have been briefed on just how naked Baron Cohen's flying 'Bruno' would be when he agreed."  What a pro.

Even before the writer's admission that the crash landing was planned, the searches had a suspicious slant. Throughout Monday, lookups on " was the eminem bruno stunt staged" and "eminem bruno joke" posted strong gains. Blogs, like this one from the Chicago Tribune, raised the possibility that the audience had just been played.

Now that the joke has been confirmed, queries are surging on "bruno eminem fake stunt." We'd say we feel used, but we're too busy laughing.

CNN) -- An international manhunt was under way Thursday for a New Zealand couple who fled after a bank mistakenly paid them NZ$10 million (US$6 million) when they applied for a loan of just NZ$10,000.
Westpac bank paid the couple 1,000 times the amount they asked for.

New Zealand authorities said they had sought help from Interpol in locating the couple who disappeared May 7, two days after an employee error at Westpac bank paid them 1,000 times the amount they asked for.

The accidental millionaires, who have not been identified by authorities but are believed to come from the resort of Rotorua, were thought to have left the country, police said.

"At this time I am not prepared to disclose the amount of money involved, name the individuals or business involved, or discuss which country the individuals may be in right now," said Detective Senior Sergeant David Harvey of the New Zealand police.

Local media identified the couple as Leo Gao and Australian girlfriend Cara Young, adding that they are now believed to be in China.

The bank, too, would only say it was "pursuing vigorous criminal and civil action to recover a sum of money stolen."

However, local media and many Rotorua residents were abuzz about the amount.

TVNZ, a CNN television affiliate, said the couple applied for a NZ$ 10,000 (US$ 6,000) loan for a service station they owned.

On or about May 5, the bank erroneously put NZ$ 10 million (US$ 6 million) into their bank account. The next day, the service station closed its doors. And the day after, the couple went missing, TVNZ said.

"Saturday, Sunday, we realized something else was up," Rotorua resident Tania Davies told the station. "They'd done a runner."

Another resident, Chevi Lambert, said a private investigator came by asking about the couple over the weekend.

"It's such a big world, he could just disappear," Lambert said.

Police said the bank had recovered part of the money, indicating the couple may not have been able to access the entire amount.

After nearly three decades of chart dominance, there is no new musical genre waiting in the wings to dethrone dancehall, yet stakeholders are split on the meaning of its longevity.

Some say the music continues because the society has not evolved since the '80s. Contrastingly, others say dancehall is no longer dancehall and should be retroactively classified as a new genre.

"My son is 25, and dances to the same genre of music as me," quipped Dr Donna Hope, reggae lecturer, highlighting the generational span of the music. Never has any genre of Jamaican music kept local chart dominance and youth relevance for as long as dancehall. Indeed, all the genres of Jamaican music currently co-exist, but the trend prior to dancehall afforded some 10 years of dominance: Mento dominated the '50s, Ska the '60s, rocksteady late '60s early '70s and reggae '70s to '80s. Today, dancehall continues to be the driving force, yet one of its pioneers, Cleveland Brownie - of Steely and Clevie - argues that dancehall is no longer dancehall. He wants millennium dancehall classified under a new name. "I would love it if that happened, because it has changed so much from what I created as dancehall that it probably needs a change of name if it moves any further. But someone will have to name it."

The only thing preventing a name change is that artistes still "consider themselves dancehall artistes".

Brownie, who is also chairman of the Recording Industry Association of Jamaica, argues that his '80s King Jammy's creations were initially called reggae but reclassified as dancehall: "When we were doing what we did the artistes called themselves reggae deejays."

But Dr Hope disagrees with Brownie on the retroactive labelling. "The themes are the same when compared with the dancehall that I was involved with in the '80s. It has not moved away from its central point of its creation. And some of the people who were dominant in the '90s are still around. For instance, Bounty Killa is still a major player today which suggests it the same genre of music."

The 1981 death of Bob Marley symbolically marked the end of the Reggae era and popularity of Yellow Man marked the rise of Dancehall era (even if deejays U-Roy and other Big Youth had stints of hits in the Rocksteady era). Hope argues that dancehall music will remain dominant unless the country transitions into a new societal epoch.

"It says a lot about our society and suggest that our society has not been able over the last 25 years or so to go to the next level. We are still stuck in a mode and dancehall is a part of that dialogue," says Hope, who lectures at the University of the West Indies.
Jamaica's GDP has not grown in real terms since the '80s and is now only second to Haiti trailing the region in UN human development indicies. Haiti's excuse is that it has been plagued by coups.

"Since dancehall, it is three decades of the same political and economic system the promotion of money via capitalism and it may be linked to why dancehall is still dominant today," says French reggae scholar Jérémie Kroubo Dagnini who launched his book on the roots of Jamaican music on Tuesday in Kingston.

Dagnini and Hope see mento as tied to post-colonialisation; ska to the independence movement; rocksteady to the search for identity; reggae to black consciousness and socialism; and dancehall to capitalism.

But Ibo Cooper, reggae musician formerly of Third World, argues that dancehall is less tied to politics and more intertwined with our genes.

"Dancehall is built on a West-African beat that is set in Jamaicans DNA. It came across with Atlantic slavery," argues Cooper, who is a senior lecturer in Edna Manley School of Music. "The success of dancehall is that it is party music. And so it has lasted a long time because the people want to have a good time. There was a lot of political strife in Kingston and dancehall represents the release."

Reggae/dancehall producer Mikey Bennett downplays culture and highlights the cross-cultural mix which keeps dancehall current.

"What we call dancehall is more inclusive of other genres . it is not as strict as reggae with the cheke-cheke! It borrows more from other genres it allows for more creativity," he says. "The youth culture do not distinguish so much with the beat, so anything that Mavado or Elephant Man or Beenie Man does is considered dancehall...If you strip a lot of the vocals from dancehall songs they could be called R&B songs or hip-hop songs or pop songs."

Bennett doesn't see a new form of Jamaican music emerging until the vocal deliveries change.
"Until the vocalist makes a new vocal style you really don't have a new genre of music," Bennett says. "The vocalist have the power to change the art form."

In fact, Bennett doesn't want the music to evolve into a new genre as it offers convenient marketing: "It shouldn't when you think of it, it hasn't happened in America which is the biggest market."
New wave dancehall

Bennett was referring to hip-hop not ceding to a new genre. However, it has happened in Europe and the UK argues Chris Edmonds of RebelMix an internet music store, who cites UK jungle which evolved into drum and bass then garage to now dub-step with artistes like Benga Anger and grime ala Dizze Rascal. These genres, developed by Jamaicans in the UK, are a mix of electronica, dancehall and hip-hop.

"It's funny because grime and that stuff is being done by West Indians but it will probably never come to Jamaica,"said Edmonds who admits that urban electonica is filtering into the dancehall via US hip-hop. Just think of Rampin' Shop, Vybz Kartel's and Spice's vocals are robotic and the rhythm is spacey, built by a Norwegiann duo, Stargate which licensed it to US R&B star Ne-Yo, which in turn was mixed by the Kartel camp.

Edmonds cites Jamaican deejay Terry Lyn, Chino and brother Stephen McGregor as experimenters. In the US he cites underground hip-hop artistes such as Cuddy who are achieving mainstream success extending the boundaries of hip-hop which in turn will influence dancehall.

"But as to whether we will call what is going on now another name remains to be seen," he says of dancehall.

ONE876interviewed the Teacha over the weekend to find out the
nature and complexity of this latest chapter in the ongoing feud, and
why he chose to renew hostilities with the Alliance.

1. You recently voiced a song called When Since that disses individual
members of the Alliance, would it be fair to say that the animosities
have started again between the Empire and the Alliance?
ANSWER: It would be fair to say that the Portmore Empire is about
music not animosity.

2. Did any incident in particular jumpstart the latest chapter in this
ongoing feud?
ANSWER: What feud?

3. Is there any hope that one day you and Killa would ever be able to
exist on friendly terms in the world of dancehall? And do you think
his legacy is dependent on your individual success?
I hope that dancehall will forever exist and my 'success' as you put
it, is independent (with the exception of the fans that put me where I
am). I dont think about Killer.

4. Would you be willing to clash Mavado again in the future? Or do
you think that he is staying far away from the idea of a clash?
ANSWER: I am willing to entertain the dancehall fans... and I dont
think about other artistes.

5. How would you rate the success of the Empire? Is it 100 per cent
where you need it to be?
ANSWER: I rate it at 101 per cent based on the fact that the unit
isnt even 3yrs old and has received national and regional recognition
doing shows as far as Switzerland and based on the fact that a lot of
the 'powers that be' are trying to stop the Gaza Movement.

6. What is the Gaza Movement?
The Gaza Movement is what is happening in Jamaica, its Vybz Kartel
and the Empire initiating the changing of the guards demographically
speaking. The new generation has emerged and need to belong to
something, something that they can be a part ofsome thing that
appeals to them something that is their voicethats the GAZA
MOVEMENT.....Portmore Empire and the fans of the Empirethe people, we
are the Movement.

RIP BIG MAN

he died yesterday because of cancer...

Alton Ellis: 1944-2008

Date October 9, 2008

It comes with great sorrow that I spread the news that Mr. Soul of Jamaica, Alton Ellis, passed away on the morning of October 9th. The world was given this treasure in 1944 when he was born in Trenchtown, Kingston, JA. His career spanned nearly five decades and his ever-lasting impression on the future of Jamaican music came in the mid- to late-sixties as the riddim-laden grooves filled with his soulful melodies permeated the upbeat vibrations of the ska era. The summer of 66 saw the explosion of rocksteady in the Kingston scene and Alton ruled the dancehalls during this time as he cuts tunes for Studio One and Treasure Isle among others. His musical longevity persisted for years and years and he enjoyed much-deserved praise from a new generation of listeners as ska and rocksteady made a revival in the late nineties. Among them was myself, who had goosebumps on my skin when hearing his voice for the first time around the age of 16. Over time, I became exposed to more and more of his tunes, none of which every left me without my heart beating at a faster pace or a tear in my eye from the passionate sounds coming out of my hi-fi. His sound truly made a lifelong impression on me and he will forever be missed in my heart. Altonyour music was there with me during the joy-filled times in my life and it was also there during those dark, lonely times. Well sit under the willow tree together with Phyllis one day and Ill tell you all about it.

REAL MADRID president Florentino Perez insists the club are still keen to sign Cristiano Ronaldo even if they break the world transfer record to bring Kaka to Spain.

Madrid are currently in negotiations to acquire AC Milan's Brazilian playmaker but have long been linked with a move for Manchester United star Ronaldo.

Rumours in the Spanish media have even suggested a deal for the Portuguese winger has already been agreed and that he will be unveiled at the Bernabeu later this summer.

But Real supremo Perez denied such an agreement is already in place.

He said: "Kaka, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the best players in the world.

"I'm going to work to bring Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.

"I've been here a few days and neither [former president, Vicente] Boluda nor anyone else has talked to me about this supposed agreement.

"But what would be very good is to see these great players at Real Madrid this season.

"Cristiano would be one of these."
