Hip-Hop star Nelly has joined with DUB Edition magazine and Ford to create his very own limited edition 2011 Ford Mustang GT.

The vehicle was modified to adhere to Nellys personal style. It features a black gloss exterior paint job, 22-24 inch rims, Pirelli tires, and black racing stripes.

Inside, the DUB edition car offers leather trim and a JL Audio system equipped with two 12-inch subwoofers, rear headrests, a message center, integrated blind spot mirrors, and a programmable vehicle key.

The idea came to the St. Louis native last year while visiting the Fords design studio as part of a collaboration for the launch of Funkmaster Flexs Ford Flex. His goal was to create a vehicle that was an amalgamation of muscle car tradition and modern style.

I dont care where you grew up, everyone knows the Mustang, Nelly explained. At some point, youve had a conversation about a Mustang, and it was probably one about you wanting to get behind the wheel of one. Ive always loved the Mustang; the vehicle has power to the point where you cant help but want to hit the pedal. And the newest one? More power, more style.

Nellys Ford Mustang GT has a new 5.0 liter V-8 engine, which gives 412 horsepower and 390 ft.-lbs of torque.

The car is scheduled to be displayed prominently on the cover of the rappers next album.

Im itching to get behind the wheel of my Mustang and really take it out on the streets, Nelly said. This vehicle being a part of my album artwork is just a reflection of the direction and feel the album has. To be able to partner with Ford again on another vehicle that is going to change the automotive game is exciting.

At press time, Nellys DUB Edition Mustang GT is scheduled to debut this Spring.

The murder case involving deejay Ninja Man, his son and two other men, was last week transferred to the Circuit Court and is to mentioned there on April 7.

The deejay, whose real name is Desmond Ballentine, his son, Janiel Ballentine, Seymour Samuels and Clayton Dennis, are all charged with the March 16 murder of Richard Johnson.

When the matter was mentioned in the Corporate Area Gun Court last Friday, Samuels was granted $700,000 bail while the others were further remanded. The deejay has been in custody since early 2009.

The allegations are that on March 16, Johnson was sweeping his yard in the company of a friend on Marl Road, in St Andrew, when a motor car with three men aboard drove up.

An argument developed between Johnson's friend and the men who left, but later returned with guns blazing. Johnson was fatally shot in the incident.

Ninja Man turned himself in to the police shortly after the incident, upon hearing that he was being sought as a person of interest in the case.

MADMAN CHOPS COP?

There was drama close to Balmoral Avenue in the Half-Way Tree area of St Andrew yesterday after a policeman was reportedly chopped by a man said to be of unsound mind.

Both men had to be rushed to hospital after the cop's alleged attacker was subsequently shot by another policemen who was on the scene.

According to police reports, sometime after 2 p.m., the lawman, who is attached to the Protective Services and was in plain clothes, was walking along the roadway when he was attacked and chopped with a blunt instrument. The alleged attacker was then shot by colleagues of the policeman.

Both men were then taken to hospital.

"Mi naw lie, mi fraid a dem madman ya eno. When me see dem me walk wide and go pon all di next side a di road," remarked one man who witnessed the ordeal.

"Di man walk pass mi good good and by the next second mi look a pure *lo** mi see a run from him head. People all start run up and down when the other policeman dem help him, shot fire and pure ting," he added.

The incident also caused a traffic build-up on a number of roads in the area.

DREAD TRIMMED FOR OWING MONEY

February 15, 2010
Started By HABLA RUPTION8 Comments

A man from a community known as 'Russia' in Old Harbour, St Catherine, who only three days ago sported a head full of locks, has become the joke of the town after he was held and trimmed for money he owed.

THE STAR heard the story from a corporal at the Old Harbour Police Station yesterday. "This is the joke everybody from the community talking about," the corporal said.

It is said that both men were chicken farmers and had been doing business for some three years. However, last year one of the men, Mike, decided to do his own thing and took a loan from his business partner.

Last month the two reportedly had an argument as to when the loan would be repaid. "Well he admitted that he was taking long to pay back the money and said he was truly going through some difficulties," the corporal explained.

THE STAR heard that on Friday, the two got involved in another argument and Mike was promised a new look, if he did not pay up by the following day.

On Saturday night it was said that Mike was paid a visit at his home by at least three men who held him down and shaved off his locks.

Mike subsequently visited the police station and made a report before going to a barbershop. He now sports a bald head. The corporal said police will be speaking with the alleged 'trimmer'.

Some residents believe the man deserved the trim while others are more sympathetic.

"Bway all now people a laugh bout it ... Of course yu have people weh sorry fi him eno but most a did people dem a say a dat him fi get cause him did fi gi di man him money long time," one resident said.

Cops tackle 'low pants' issue

February 15, 2010
Started By HABLA RUPTION3 Comments

The St Catherine North police will be looking to try and stop men from wearing their pants below their waists.

Though no official word has been put forward, Deputy Superintendent Andrew Edwards confirmed police will be looking to stop the trend which he feels is insulting, especially to elder folks.

Furthermore, in some cases it can be viewed as indecent exposure, he said. "Well this is something we're looking to take on ... In the Linstead area we will be trying to put a stop to the trend ... It is not a good look and in some cases is actually indecent exposure," he explained.

Last March, THE STAR reported that local security officials did not give much thought to adopting the approach. Groups, such as the Values and Attitudes Committee, believe such a move would reap great benefits.

Lifestyle consultant and former convenor of the committee, Dr Heather Little-White, had said, "Definitely, this should be banned. It is a form of indecent exposure."

Efforts to get a comment from the commissioner of police were not successful.

The trend of wearing jeans below the natural waistline was made popular by the hip-hop culture, which, through cable and other media, filtered into Caribbean societies.

Last year,s the Royal Grenada Police Force outlawed such dressing and some US states have also instituted a similar law.
Civil rights delegation wants reparations for Haiti

GEORGIA, United States, February 12, 2010 A US delegation to Haiti led by civil rights veteran Joe Beasley is calling for a US$30 billion restitution payment by France to help Haiti rebuild after the devastating January 12th earthquake, and the end of what Beasley refers to as an unofficial blockade of Haiti.

Beasley, 73, was part of a six-person delegation that travelled to Haiti just over a week after the 7.0-magnitude quake devastated the capital, Port-au-Prince.

"It's absolutely worse than anything I've ever seen before or been able to imagine in my mind," Beasley told IPS.

"One third of Port-au-Prince was destroyed," added delegation member Bruce McMillian. "There's homelessness and hunger everywhere. The US$30 billion could really put Haiti on path to being a prosperous, modern nation.

McMillian says the money should go to a special fund the government has established to receive foreign aid with the promise of complete transparency.

"We believe the NGOs in Haiti are just as much of the problem as they are the solution," he said. "According to certain officials in Haiti, only 20 percent of the aid sent to Haiti works its way down so it's actually reaching the people."

"It's our belief the Haitian people should control their own fate and destiny," he added.

Beasley and others say they are working to educate the US public about the situation in Haiti, particularly the political context that led to Haiti's extreme poverty.

"I think there are so many preconceived notions about Haiti that are negative and that need to be clarified," he noted. "I think this earthquake has provided us an opportunity to not only talk about the disaster, but to tell the truth about Haiti, the historical reality around Haiti and why it happened to be the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere." Digicel Group CEO Colm Delves. - File

IT HAS been a mere month since the seemingly apocalyptic events of January 12 overwhelmed Haiti and rallied the world to care.

But, in a stunningly heart-warming turn of events coming in the aftermath of devastation and loss, it has been the unshakeable Haitians who have been the inspiration to many who have gone in to help them.

A Digicel team ventured into the unknown in the aftermath of the unthinkable devastation on the Haitians, already acquainted with grief, loss and hardship, but the members came away with the unexpected.

Led by chairman Denis O'Brien, the team harboured fears that the earthquake would have finally pushed the people already teetering over the edge, once and for all into the precipice of despair and hopelessness.

But instead, the life-shattering experience has had quite the opposite effect on them, for the people of Haiti have demonstrated super-human efforts to rise out of the rubble.

That's the experience of Digicel's head honcho, Colm Delves, who has been making weekly trips into Haiti.

"It's been really humbling," declared the Digicel Group's chief executive officer.

For the Digicel team, venturing in and out of Haiti since the horrifying events just over a month ago, and working with the natives to rebuild their lives has been an uplifting and eye-opening experience never to be forgotten.

"This is an experience that I am not allowed to forget. I was shocked at the whole experience and taken aback by the solidarity among people whose lives have been so affected," asserted Delves.

Digicel has been so involved in the rebuilding effort that the mayor of Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, appointed O'Brien an honorary ambassador of the city.

"In that capacity, we will continue to ensure that Haiti gets the attention it deserves," Delves asserted.

Outside of the millions of United States dollars being injected into the rebuilding effort by hismobile firm, O'Brien has dipped into his pockets to fund several projects in the earthquake-ruined state.

Hope of the people

But even more than the generosity displayed by the entire Digicel team, Delves spoke glowingly of glittering hope and shining examples of the Haitians, bursting through the ruin and rubble of their broken lives.

For him, the positive attitude of the Haitians has been the greatest inspiration to the philanthropic-minded people who have ventured into the Caribbean territory, littered with deaths and debris for the past month.

But it is not only the Digicel boss on which the attitude of the Haitians has had such an arresting effect.

His colleague, Antonia Graham, is just as awestruck - not by any dehumanising effects of the earthquake, but the simple, humanitarian attitude of the Haitians.

"It has been eye-opening, uplifting, devastating and unforgettable," Antonia sighed in one breath. "You see people together, coping and getting along with their lives; it's just breathtaking," she gushed.

Antonia, who has been to Haiti twice since the earthquake, has adamantly refused to use the word 'resilient' to describe the Haitians.

For her, the word was overused and simply inadequate to characterise the attitude of the Haitians.

"The Haitians are even capable of making jokes through text messages about their experiences. It's just, well, words escape me."

Delves asserted that the Haitians signalled that they are eager to leave the demons of the past, as well as those of the present, behind to usher in a new dawn.

When Delves spoke with The Gleaner last week, he had just arrived from Haiti, from one of his weekly visits to the Caribbean state since the quake's terrifying assault.

He sat in his office, devoid of the attire one comes to expect from a senior executive. But of course, there are now hardly any corporate offices in Haiti.

Change is happening

Naturally, the devastating spectacle of a city in ruins in the aftermath of the earthquake remains etched indelibly in Delves' mind.

"Empty streets, the putrid smell of the dead and decaying, were everywhere."

He said that in those early days in the midst of wreck and ruin, the evidence of aid pouring in was present at the airport, but not too far from there.

"That's all changing now," he commented. "I see a lot of progress being made, roads cleared, the dismantling of buildings, shops have opened up. Trade, a main feature of Port-au-Prince, has been revived and banks and restaurants have reopened, and traffic is busy.

"People are just trying their best to regain some semblance of nor-mality," he added.

But it was in the early days after the catastrophic jolt, that the Digicel team knew they had to play a big role in the rebuilding effort.

"Why? Because we just had to," Delves said. "We did not have a choice. We had formed a tight relationship with Haiti, but that aside, we had a moral obligation to do so."

And indeed, the Digicel team has been at it - giving of themselves in every shape and form.

Initially, as a corporate entity, it has pumped US$5 million into the effort.

The organisation has given away another US$10 million in phone credit to the people of Haiti.

But not to be outdone, Digicel's staff and customers have raised US$1 million.

In a light-hearted moment of camaraderie, Digicel's staff members put up US$10,000 to have their boss change his conservative hairstyle.

The result - Delves went to the barber and is now sporting a new look.

And what of the US$10,000? Well, that's in the coffers of the relief effort.

A gesture that has generated a particularly humbling effect on Delves and Graham was the selfless act of giving by the Digicel staff in Haiti, 80 per cent of whom have been left homeless after the quake.

"They found 4,000 people who were without water, food and shelter. The staff packaged their food and some other things that were allotted to them and just gave to the 4,000 people," Delves recounted.

"We really have a tremendous workforce with a great attitude, but they have never been given much of a chance," he said.

There is more that Digicel is doing, but Delves thinks that should remain between Digicel and the people of Haiti.

Plans for education

But there was one ambitious project that surfaced as he spoke with The Gleaner, a plan to push start the restoration of education for the children of Haiti.

Delves divulged that Digicel has purchased a 10-square-foot tent in the United States and shipped it to Port-au-Prince to house the staff of Haiti's Ministry of Education.

"Education is critical and the staff of the ministry has no where to work, as their offices were completely demolished," Delves asserted.

"We will be putting in flooring and computers to make the ministry functional once again."

Delves disclosed that the Digicel chairman has taken particular interest in restoring the Iron Market located in downtown Port-au-Prince, said to be akin to Jamaica's famed Corona-tion Market, with similar historic significance.

"Mr O'Brien recognises not only the historical significance, but the importance of the market as a trade centre."

Delves notes that a month after the earthquake, approximately 500,000 people are still living in tents, many of which are makeshift.

He said that with the range of deadly diseases still one of the dreaded possibilities, an immediate concern is to protect the Haitians before the rainy season approaches.

For him, surface drainage remains a number one priority, but he notes that the authorities are moving with dispatch to address the challenges.

The Digicel team hopes that when the dust settles and the rubble is gone, there will be a successful Haiti bolstered by firm infrastructure in a place which has been plagued by misfortune and bad luck.

He said that, with the likelihood of natural disasters, Digicel hopes that Haiti will finally be the beneficiary of a cohesive plan that will enable it to rise from the ashes like the Phoenix.

"I hope we can have a city that sits at the doorstep of the United States, which is self-sufficient in the medium term," Delves said.

DJ Merciless threatened to push his knife through Gabriel's throat during Sunday morning's clash at The Settlement in St. Thomas over the weekend.

Merciless, who had been floundering badly in a clash dominated by Gabriel, was perhaps overcome by the emotions of the moment
and resorted to intimidation to get the better of his younger and much better prepared rival.

The brash, confident Gabriel, was primed and ready to deliver from the onset, bringing titters of laughter to the crowd when he remarked: "send him out, who go prison mek man bend him out'.

He deejayed an edited bit of his famous Long, Plain and Straight, leaving out the former PMs names, and inserting Merciless. Then he counteracted Merciless' Letter to Mama, saying "mek mi tell yu 'bout the letter. the blue steel letter". He proceeded to deejay a song to Leonard's mom that suggested that her good son had been involved in sexually deviant behaviour during his incarceration. The crowd roared its approval.

Then on walked a weird-looking man, reportedly from Merciless' camp,

Gabriel summed up the emotions of the crowd succintly when he said: "****c**t, a who him?"

He never even got the chance to deejay before he turned tail and bolted off the stage.

Gabriel, his confidence surging now and fantastic disses bubbled up in his brain stem. He laughed and remarked:

"Merciless know him life ah go end, so him hide and send out him *****man friend."

The crowd almost lost its mind. Screams, whistles and cheers filled the venue.

Then Gabriel deejayed a snatch of lyrics which ended in the punchline: 'yu a talk bout furry mouth when yu a the dirtiest". The crowd
cheered again.

Then Merciless appeared stage right and someone gave him a microphone and he said: 'mi no war wid handicap *****bwoy'.

However, right from the start, it was obvious that Merciless' heart was not in the clash as he kept going over to the promoter Tommy Thompson, saying:'this is not a how clash supposed to be, yu have to pay mi good money fi kill people'.

So by the time he started to deejay old faves like 'Lend Out Mi Mercy', the crowd was smelling *lo** and began to boo him. Even when he did Letter to Mama, he was roundly booed again, but to his credit, he deejayed straight through the boos.

The turning point came when Gabriel deejayed another snatch of lyrics that suggested that Merciless was a raging homosexual for 'drinking Snagga's roots and preeing Kartel boots'. The crowd, especially the girls at the front of the stage, screamed delight. When Merciless tried to deejay, more boos greeted him and that was when he promised one of the girls waving him off that physical violence was near. He growled: 'hey gal, mi wi kick yu inna yu p**sy'.

Merciless then resorted to intimidation, grabbing at Gabriel's microphone, and the two men faced off dangerously onstage before two burly security guards rumbled over to keep them from each other. An upset Merciless then declared: 'yu a bad man? Mi wi push mi knife through yu throat'. The clash ended there, bring a sour note to what had been a hilarious night of clash-tainment.

COMMENTS:
The wait is almost over. Drake has selected the first single from his highly-anticipated debut album.
drake-rapper.jpg

The first offering from Thank Me Later will be called Over. Drizzy exclusively tells Rap-Up.com that the track was produced by fellow Canadian Boi-1da, who is responsible for two of his biggest hits, Best I Ever Had and Forever.

The Young Money signee went through a painstaking process before choosing the right single. Before I start working a single, I need to get about 10, 15, 20 songs done so I can pick from a batch of music as opposed to just committing to something right now, he told Rap-Up.com in November. It takes a lot for me to put a song onto that list. Its gotta be a real great song. Its gotta be something that I feel is timeless and is better than anything that Ive ever done.

The album, due this spring, is expected to feature collaborations with Jay-Z (Light Up), Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, and The-Dream (Shut It Down), as well as production from Kanye West, Noah 40 Shebib, and Tone Mason.

Two of his biggest hits Best I Ever Had and Forever have been produced by his Canadian friend so I expect good results this time as well.

WOOOOOW!!! NEW ATLANTA HOUSEWIFE'S HUSBAND IS ON PAROLE . . . FOR BEING INVOLVED IN A MAJOR CAR THEFT RING!!!

MediaTakeOut.com has been giving you ALL THE GOODS going on behind the scenes on the Atlanta Housewives. As we told you before, the producers are looking to DROP at least one of the ladies from last years cast. And for the past 3 months, they've been interviewing replacements.

At first, it looked like they would be going with actress Victoria Rowell. But Victoria ended up passing on the opportunity.

Now a person familiar with details tells MediaTakeOut.com that the producers have decided to go with Atlanta entertainment lawyer Phaedra Parks. Phaedra represented Bobby Brown and a number of other celebrity clients.

Sounds like a good choice right. A powerful woman with her own career. Well, it gets a little complicated. You see a few months ago Phaedra got married to Apollo Nida. And well, as the below evidence suggest - dude had some problems.

According to public records, Apollo is currently on PAROLE after being convicted of being involved in an auto theft ring. He spent almost 6 years of the past 12 in prison on 2 unrelated crimes.

Do you think it's odd that such a successful high-powered woman would marry a man like that? Does he deserve a second chance? We're not sure how we feel about this.

But it sounds like next season will be FULL OF DRAMA!!!

Well she does have a point . . . we still CAN'T WAIT for next season of the housewives!!!

Mr G, Queen Paula take Settlement

( L - R ) Mr G, Queen Paula - file

At the end of The Settlement, on Saturday night, Mr G buried L.A. Lewis under a barrage of new songs that he penned specifically for the famous graffiti artiste, while Queen Paula showed Lisa Hyper the value of experience in a mouth-watering clash.

The Settlement, which was held at Links in St Thomas, suffered from a poor turnout and a late start. The turnout could have been due to intermittent rain that threatened to postpone the event. When the show got underway after 2:30 am, the crowd was already asking for the advertised 'clashes' to start.

At the highly anticipated event, the main clash of the night pitted Mr G against the phlegmatic wannabe deejay L.A. Lewis. In the end, Mr G outclassed his opponent in an entertaining clash, which was the best of the night. Mr G easily defeated L.A. Lewis, the wannabe artiste with some cunning lyrics, labelling him as L.A. Chewis while saying uncharitable things about the Lewis' sexual preference.

"Is not for eating But L.A. Lewis seh di juice sweet him," said Mr G to loud cheers from the audience. L.A. Lewis wilted under Mr G's lyrical assault, and at about 10 minutes into the clash he threw in the white towel, when he repeated a lyrical salvo he had pitched earlier.

But Lewis' dying moment came when Mr G revealed to the crowd that he had a police friend, who investigated Peter King's death and leaked some juicy information. "Him seh that over Peter King's bed are the words, LA. LEWIS WAS HERE," Mr G said. as Links roared.

Putting the final nail in Lewis' coffin, Mr G asked the crowd for a moment of silence to mark the passing of his shameless opponent before playing I Octane's Lose A Friend, with the crowd begging for Lewis to be buried in an all-white casket that was on the stage.

In the all-female duel, Queen Paula was up against a confident Lisa Hyper (formerly Lisa Hype). Queen Paula's opening lyrics, a gun tune about squeezing a shot in Lisa Hyper's neck, was met with a chorus of boos.

unflustered

Queen Paula was unflustered as Lisa Hyper entered to cheers from her supporters.

Hyper's supporters cheered enthusiastically when she deejayed, "Seh new clothes come ina barrel fi people wear, but mi neva know seh barrel could a wear clothes." The cheers were louder when she chimed "Paula, mi will kill yuh and come a yuh nite/play domino and drink Street Vybz."

During the clash Lisa Hyper repeatedly referred to Queen Paula as a grandma. Paula responded by bending over and touching her toes to show that she was still fit. Lisa Hyper declaration that "mi live a ÉLane and yuh live a Old Hope Road' was met with a few groans of disappointment and shouts of encouragement.

When Queen Paula chimed, "Mi nah É fi buss." The crowd cheered as the line seemed to strike a chord with them. From then on, Paula went on to dominate the clash as the crowd turned against Lisa Hyper when Queen Paula threw salvos at Lisa Hyper's manager Nuffy, the crowd went wild.

Lisa Hyper deejayed a version of her song Worst Nightmare, and got a muted response. With Queen Paula now in the ascendancy she declared: "yu and yu manager dead." As the crowd buzzed with excitement, anticipating a victor.

Paula then praised the girls who had tattoos before deejaying "Lisa put di É weh har mouth deh." The Settlement crowned her victor as they cheered loudly.

See tomorrow's STAR for the review of the clash between Merciless and Gabriel, and full details of what took place at The Settlement.

Mr G demolishes LA Lewis Lisa Hyper, Queen Paula to be continued

BY YASMINE PERU

Monday, February 15, 2010

THE much-touted Settlement last Saturday turned out to be one tiresome night of hardcore gun talk, coupled with accusations and counter accusations of all things sexual -- sexual deviance, sexual immorality and certainly not to be left out, sexual preference. At the end of the clashes, however, three persons were left claiming decisive victories, a little known female deejay going by the name Stylish, surprise act and newcomer Gabriel and Mr G, aka Goofy.

The early morning showers on Valentine's Day quite likely affected the turnout at the open-air St Thomas venue, Links Cafe, but both the promoters and the duellists were adamant that the show would go on. In a pre-clash interview with the Observer, a confident Mr G was eager to bury LA Lewis in the coffin sitting ominously close to the stage. "This ting shoulda end from Sting and we not drawing it out any further," was Goofy's comment on the drama that led to a real deejay and a wannabe getting top billing on "the greatest one-night reggae/dancehall show on earth" last December.

And, while patrons were denied the ultimate drama of seeing Lewis climbing into the coffin he bought for Goofy, there was no question that LA was the sorry victim of the clash. The stage was professionally set with the pallbearers bringing on the empty coffin at 3:35 am to the playing of Taps, after which promoter Tommy 'Bright Light' Thompson gave his "sermon". Emcee Nuffy then called on Goofy, who, instead of coming forth, told Nuffy from backstage, "Hey bwoy, call on you friend."

Nuffy had no choice but to summon LA Lewis, who, dressed in the whitest white, came on stage deejaying and trying to be Bounty, Beenie, Buju and Mavado all in one. Unfortunately for the "sobolious" LA Lewis, he traded in his comic relief value for real deejay garments and attempted to take on Goofy on territory with which he is not familiar. He did get a few cheers, especially when he aimed his ridiculous contraption of gun/canon on Goofy to shoot him. But even that eventually backfired as Goofy dismissed this ploy and questioned the sense of "bringing toy gun to real war". "Mi police bredren tell mi seh him see the Peter King tape and over Peter King bed head were the words 'LA Lewis was here'," Goofy said, driving one of the final nails in LA's coffin.

In order for none of the contenders to cry foul, the patrons were asked to be the judges of the clash. "All who say that Goofy won the clash don't say anything," Brite Light said. The silence was such that one could almost hear a pin drop. Kudos to Mr G.

In the female match-up of the night, the lithe Lisa Hyper, valiantly fighting the tide of public opinion, was not the best match for the good 'ole' Paula, who at 48 made sure that the strength of her glue was well documented. Queen Paula, appearing as bleached out as Lisa, had been lured out of retirement take on the challenge and had declared that she was taking no prisoners.

Both females were well strapped with their gun mouths and traded shots fiercely, but it was on the turf of sexual exploits that this clash really played out. And, in a queer twist of events, it was Nuffy who was the real victim of this clash, as Queen Paula, as they would say "style him up real wicked".

"This a woman war," she said, drawing out every syllable. "So me woulda like know why Nuffy mix up inna it?" she quizzed and then pulled out the spicy dildo argument from her arsenal and "done" Nuffy.

This crowd, who had loyalty to no one, loved it and cheered Paula with gusto. But a few minutes later they had some serious boos for her when she went down the well trod sex path with the same Lisa Hyper who they had booed earlier. "A you friend them a boo me," Paula declared haughtily as she turned her back on the audience.

However, no decisive winner declared, as Nuffy -- who acknowledged that he was the only victim -- said the females didn't follow the rules that govern a clash and their stint would be declared null and void.

At the start of the event, two females, Sasha Lee and Stylish stirred things up with a face-off that set the tone for the evening. Swift on the draw and full of lyrics, Stylish easily got the better of Sasha Lee and delightfully claimed victory.

The surprise of the night, however, was young act Gabriel, who was brought into the play to clash the Warhead, Merciless, in the absence of clash veteran Kip Rich. Merciless, who clearly had no ratings for Gabriel, initially sent out a member of his camp, War Waiter, in his stead. But the crowd would have none of it and sent War Waiter packing as quickly as he came on.

Gabriel, who showed that he has some lyrics, did a counteraction of Leonard's Letter To Mama, which eventually brought Merciless on stage, to cheers from the patrons. But Gabriel was not intimidated and in the lyrical exchange that followed got the better of Merciless and earned the support of the crowd.

A fuming Leonard started cursing and with that patrons streamed out of the venue at minutes to five on the acknowledged day of love, Valentine's Day.

Residents of Fitzgerald Avenue off Maxfield Avenue in St Andrew, say they are being unfairly targeted by the police.

Yesterday, when THE STAR visited the community, residents were quick to voice their opinion, claiming a group of policemen have been making their lives rather uncomfortable for no apparent reason.

'terrorise wi'

"Nuttin naw gwaan roun ya so and dem jus a terrorise wi suh," one resident said. "Dem come roun ya and dem mash up di yute dem place, dem beat up di yute dem fi nuttin ... a gunman dem fi go look fah."

Resident said police yesterday kicked in the door to a young man's room and continued to thrash it, damaging his furniture and other personal belongings before even leaving with the man's cellphone.

Head of St Andrew South, Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, could not be reached for comment yesterday, however, an inspector from the division urged the residents to visit the police station and report their complaints.

Golden-ager Shirley Wright claims the cops damaged part of her bathroom and her 41-year-old enamel bath pan.

"Dat bath pan is as old as my last child and my last child is 41 ... I was planning on giving it to my great -grandchildren but it go mash up now," an obviously upset Wright said.

Incidents such as these the residents said, have become irritatingly frequent in the community.

According to them there is one particular cop who is the source of their discomfort.

keep the peace

"Di way di man out fi we him get transfer and come back wa day ya ... When him come roun ya afta dem transfer him back, di man see we and seh, 'Guess who's back'," a resident recalled.

The residents are especially furious since they have been trying their best to keep the peace within their community.

"No war or no bad vibes naw gwaan pon Fitzgerald Avenue but wi surrounded by it ... Everywhere else inna di area a war or inna some tension," another resident said, noting they have gone as far as to try and host a weekly event dubbed 'Peaceful Fridaze'.

Sections of the Corporate Area were lacking in sales yesterday despite it being Valentine's Day.

A drive through downtown Kingston, Cross Roads and Half-Way Tree, St Andrew, found very few people doing very little in the areas which in previous years were usually abuzz with activities on the 'day for lovers'.

financial pressures

Vendors explained that nothing much happened but said they understand the financial pressures people are facing.

"A di lover's day eno and usually people nuff pon di road a buy dem likkle basket and ting but nuttin nuh gwaan da year yah," said Mikey, a vendor on Half-Way Tree Road.

Other vendors echoed similar thoughts, some begging THE STAR team to make their purchase even though it was after 3 p.m. and they had been out since 8 a.m.

It was a similar case downtown where a number of vendors said things were 'slow'.

"Unnu nuh see say di country slow up, nobody nuh have nuh money fi spend pon dem ting ya agen ... Mi deh ya from morning and is jus one small basket me sell fi $700," a vendor said.

"It rough but wi can't even complain we jus a fi try cause di whole a we know seh dis recession ting a mash up everybody," another added.

One potential customer went as far as taking the money from his pocket but changed his mind at the last minute. When asked why the change of mind, he simply said he could not afford it.

"Me did really waa buy a ting fi mi girl eno but di funds low ... It nuh mek sense mi buy dis now and tomorrow morning me a dead fi hungry," he reasoned.

LOS ANGELES:

The star-studded romance Valentine's Day wooed audiences with a $52.4-million opening weekend, easily grabbing the No. 1 spot over the holiday that shares its name, according to studio estimates Sunday.

"To have a movie titled Valentine's Day on Valentine's weekend was a no-brainer that absolutely worked," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com.

Directed by Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman), Valentine's Day was a celebrity bonanza. The cast includes Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Julia Roberts, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah, Jennifer Biel, Shirley MacLaine, Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner.

Valentine's Day distributor Warner Bros. estimated its love story will be in the US$60 million range after Presidents Day on Monday. That would break the Presidents Day weekend record of $52 million set by Ghost Rider over the four-day holiday weekend in 2007.

second place

Opening in a tight race for No. 2 were 20th Century Fox's action fantasy Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief with US$31.1 million over three days and Universal's werewolf tale The Wolfman with US$30.6 million.

Adapted from the opening book in Rick Riordan's fantasy series, Percy Jackson follows the adventures of a teen who learns he's descended from the ancient Greek gods. The cast includes Uma Thurman, Pierce Brosnan, Catherine Keener and Rosario Dawson.

The Wolfman stars Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt in an update of the 1941 Lon Chaney Jr horror classic about an aristocrat who returns to his ancestral home and is bitten by a werewolf.

Coming in fourth for the weekend was 20th Century Fox's sci-fi sensation Avatar with US$22 million, adding to a fortune that already has made it Hollywood's biggest modern blockbuster. Avatar raised its domestic total to US$659.6 million and its worldwide haul to $2.35 billion.

The previous weekend's No. 1 movie, Sony Screen Gems' romantic drama Dear John, fell to fifth place with US$15.3 million, lifting its 10-day total to $53.2 million.

Like Dear JohnValentine's Day drew mainly women, with the female crowd making up 68 per cent of the audience, said Dan Fellman, head of distribution for Warner Bros.

Playing in 3,665 theaters, Valentine's Day had a strong average of US$14,300 a cinema. That compared with a US$9,267 average in 3,356 theaters for Percy Jackson and US$9,506 in 3,222 cinemas for The Wolfman.

date crowd

Newcomers and holdovers offered something for everyone, with Valentine's Day and Dear John catering to the date crowd, Percy Jackson filling the family niche and the R-rated The Wolfman pulling in horror fans.

The breadth of movies in the market lifted Hollywood to a record Presidents Day weekend, with Hollywood.comestimating the overall three-day haul at US$193 million. That's up three per cent from the previous record set over Presidents Day weekend last year, when Friday the 13th led with a US$40.6 million debut.

In limited release, India's My Name Is Khan debuted strongly with US$1.9 million in 120 theaters, averaging US$15,500 a cinema. Released by Fox Searchlight, My Name Is Khan features Shahrukh Khan, a superstar in India's Bollywood movie industry based in Mumbai.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at US and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Final figures will be released Tuesday.

Rapper Shyne has reportedly been removed from being featured on DJ Khaled's upcoming Victory album.

According to an updated tracklisting run-down, Shyne's2_bing.gif original "All My Life" verse was dropped.

The tracklisting for DJ Khaled's2_bing.gif Victory album has changed a bit since first being released in December. Amazon has updated the planned tracks for the March 2 album on E1 Entertainment, and for reasons unknown, several high-profile appearances have been removed or altered. While several tracks were added, including a Busta Rhymes vow of support on the intro and Lil Wayne has been added to "Fed Up" pairing him with fellow southern rap titans Rick Ross and Young Jeezy, others have been removed. "All My Life", billed to be Shyne's first new verse since 2004, was removed. Both Kanye West and Jadakiss were also pulled from the track "Victory," which will still include Nas and John Legend. Fat Joe also no longer appears on the album, having been replaced by Ace Hood on "Bring The Money Out." (Hip Hop DX)

Shyne's "All My Life" verse landed online earlier this month.

"From the streets of New Yorkmag-glass_10x10.gif, where the streets don't sleep,Shyne get 'em!," Khaled says prior to the rapper's verse. "All my life I've been rolling with the D's and the C's," Shyne raps, "Steady ducking the police, ain't a friend/When they take me ahead, they fill me with lead -- Until it come to an end, I'll be bleeding in bed/I live slowly let you read in the F.E.D.S., Daddy wasn't there but my mama was a gem/But I ain't trippin' though, that's how I kill a flow....." ("All My Life")

Khaled recently spoke on his relationship with Shyne.

"Shyne is a good friend of mine, he's just a real dude, you know what I'm saying," Khaled said in an interview. "I kept contact with him when he got out, you know what I'm saying, I reached out to him and he's just a great person. I asked him to be on the album and he was like, 'Yo Khaled, you've been waving the Shyne flag since day one,' you know what I'm saying and he got on it. I know a lot of people holla at him and he's in Belizemag-glass_10x10.gif, he's doing his thing, he's a good brother, a real brother and he definitely repped me to the fullest and I appreciate it man. So shout-out to Shyne, Shyne Po, Shyne what it do?" (VIBE)

Producer Swizz Beatz announced his association with Shyne's own forthcoming album last month.

"I'm rocking with Shyne," he said in an interview. "I need him to find himself a little bit. Not to say he don't know who he is, I just need him to vibe off a couple beats and be like, 'Swizz, these are four joints right here I been rocking with, me and Scott Storchor whoever. This is the lane I wanna go with.' Then I could digest those things and then I can come up with the best records for [T.I.], Shyne, for everybody. These are different techniques so I can use those darts." (MTV)

Deejay and businessman Vybz Kartel has taken over the running of Club Blaze in Portmore, and is renovating it for a grand opening over Valentine's weekend.

The club is located at Oak Park Plaza in Marine Park, Portmore. Kartel and his business partner Corey Todd are in it for the long haul have secured a long term lease for the venue.

"We are in a joint venture, myself, Corey Todd and Mr @#$an Jr to pioneer Portmore's second world-class night club series," said Kartel.

Kartel and Todd are in the process of giving the club a whole new look, conceptualising theme nights to keep the party vibes going five days out of every week.

"Club Blaze will be opened on Wednesdays, Thursdays through Sundays. Portmore will now host its own Street Vybz party on Sundays while Street Vybz Thursday continue to shell down the building every Thursday night in Kingston. Club Blaze will not only welcome the Gaza fan, but is for anyone who wants to be where the vibes is at," Todd said.

According to Todd, the Street Vybz Thursday series which was launched late last year has slowly become one of the hottest places to party in the Corporate Area and they hope to replicate the success of that in Kartel's hometown, Portmore. Kartel will be present taking centre stage on the club's opening night and is expected to take an active role in the club. As far as the decor, Todd was reluctant to give away the concept but said the VIP area would be an all-white theme.

Kartel turned to business ventures in 2007, managing various artistes in his Portmore Empire, as well launching his Vybz Rum, Daggerin' Condoms, Street Vybz Rum and other things in store. In a previous interview with The STAR, Kartel said he has no problems in balancing his business life and his musical one. He said, "Entrepeneurship can do more good than bad for my career. It will only help to keep the name Vybz Kartel current."

PARENTS HIRE 18 YEAR OLD TEEN TO BABYSIT THEIR SON . . . THE BABYSITTER RAPES THE LITTLE BOY AND FACES 3 YRS IN JAIL! QUESTION - IS IT OK TO LET A GROWN MAN BABYSIT??

1265638730rot_hell.jpg

February 08, 2010.
MediaTakeOut.com just received some DISTURBING news. An 18-year-old Massachusetts teenager is accused raping a 5-year-old boy whom he babysat.

Heres what we know. A 5 year old boy came forward and told police that Nehemiah O. Gonzalez, photod above, forced him to perform oral sex. Police immediately apprehended Nehemiah and during the interrogation, dude admitted to detectives that he assaulted the boy.

If convicted, Nehemiah faces 10 years to life in state prison. But with good behavior, he may be out in as little as 3 years.

Two questions, first, is it smart to have an 18 year old boy as a babysitter??? And second, 3 years is a VERY LIGHT sentence, why doesnt some state implement the DEATH PENALTY for these child rapists????

Man marries a videogame

I now pronounce you husband and what?!

In another sign that the world is about to collapse, multiple blogs are reporting that a fan of the Nintendo DS dating sim Love Plus (you know, the really creepy one) liked his virtual lady so much that he decided to marry her. For real.

Apparently, a Japanese gamer known as 'Sal9000' was officially wed to Nene Anegasaki, one of the game's three virtual girlfriends, in what must have been the weirdest ceremony in the history of ceremonies. We can only assume that Ms. Pac-Man was the maid of honor.

While the two aren't planning a honeymoon -- after all, one of them is a VIDEO GAME -- they did hold a small 'reception' in Japan for friends, family and the media, indicating that this is most likely little more than the looniest video game publicity stunt we've seen in some time. Check out this video recap by Boing Boing, complete with footage of the happy, er, couple:

Kleine-Levin Syndrome or KLS, is a neurological disorder characterized by recurring periods of excessive amounts of sleep and altered behavior. At the onset of an episode the patient becomes drowsy and sleeps for most of the day and night (hypersomnolence), waking only to eat or go to the bathroom. When awake, the patients whole demeanor is changed, often appearing spacey or childlike. When awake, they experience confusion, disorientation, complete lack of energy, and lack of emotions. Individuals are not able to attend school or work or care for themselves. Most are bedridden, tired, and uncommunicative even when awake.

Most patients report that everything seems out of focus, and that they are hypersensitive to noise and light. In some cases, food cravings (compulsive hyperphagia) are exhibited. Instances of uninhibited hypersexuality during episodes (mostly males) and instances of depression (mostly females) have also been reported.

Slick-talking deejay KipRich says he will not be clashing Merciless at The Settlement at Links in St Thomas and he has also decided to not perform on the show.

Organised by Brite Lites Funeral Home owner, Tommy Thompson, The Settlement is advertised as the burial ground for graffiti artiste L.A. Lewis and deejay Mr G as well as Queen Paula versus Lisa Hyper on Saturday, February 13. When THE WEEKEND STAR spoke to KipRich he says it was not in his original agreement with Thompson to clash any artiste.

He said, "Tommy Thompson a promote a show and him a tell me is not a clash ting but the flyer implies that it is. Mi nah deal wid no clash ting right now, my management don't want a clash vibe right now cause the focus shift. I have a song out called Party Time and dats the vibe we going for right now."

paid to clash

According to KipRich, Thompson approached him about being on the show to perform saying that the event was a party vibe. Yet after that agreement, he has seen flyers for the event implying a clash and the media have reported that he will be clashing Merciless.

"Me nah do him show, "KipRich said, "my people done call him and tell him already cause we nah trick di people. Him shouldn't go promote something weh him nuh talk to me bout and mi nah get paid to clash. Is a business, is not fren ting, if you don't tell me don't go behind my back and do it."

When THE WEEKEND STAR spoke to Thompson, however, he was unaware that KipRich would not be attending and says that he never advertised a clash between KipRich and Merciless. He said, "My only conclusion, cause everything has been going on well, is that he's fraid of the possibility a clash might happen. But the show must go on."

KipRich has gained a name for himself as a spectacular clash artiste within the last two years with his clashes in Portmore for Sting. In 2008, KipRich demolished the Monster Hempire at Sting and again in 2009 at Follow Di Arrow. Last December, KipRich was the saving grace of Sting when he and General B provided the only clash for the night. KipRich easily took home the win with cutting lyrics and a fierce attitude.

KipRich is adamant that he is not afraid to take on veteran deejay Merciless saying, "me nuh fraid fi clash Merciless, if him did book mi fi clash

It appears that a Manchester resident will be smiling all the way to the bank when he or she comes forward to claim the record $240 million Lotto jackpot.

Of course, the winner could also be someone who was just passing through the parish and decided it was the right time to take a chance.

No one had come forward up to late yesterday and Supreme Ventures Vice-President for Corporate Communications, Sonia Davidson, could not say if the winning ticket was purchased by a group or an individual.

She said the winner was required to claim his or her prize at the company's payment centre in New Kingston.

The record payout comes after Wednesday's draw, in which only one ticket had all the winning numbers: 6, 7, 27, 33, 34 and 35 and the bonus ball of 12.

The previous record Lotto payout came in 2006 when the then jackpot was $140 million.

Cash Money Records CEO Bryan "Baby" Williams has made a lot of wise investments over the years, but one he truly regrets is working with R. Kelly.

When asked by Ozone Magazine what his worst investment ever was Birdman said.

"Probably the worst investment I did was f*ckin with R. Kelly. That was a waste of my time. I couldve made money if I wasnt f*ckin with that clown-a** n*gga."

The two were supposed to record the album 'Best Of Both Worlds 2' back in 2003 but for whatever reason the album never came out.

Birdman also confirms that the star tattoo on top of his head represents an oil rig. He and his brother Slim have been in the oil business for 5 years now.

When it comes to serious commitments, Dodgers player Matt Kemp has his eye on one thing -- baseball.

Despite his romantic trip to Mexico last month with Rihanna, the center fielder says he's focused on spring training and helping his team make it to the World Series.

"I can't get distracted by that," Kemp said in an interview on the L.A. Dodgers Web site of the paparazzi frenzy surrounding the Cabo San Lucas vacation. "When it's time to play baseball, that's my job. No distractions."

Though Kemp, 25, and Rihanna, 21, were spotted smooching and snuggling together, the hunky jock said the Grammy winner is "just a friend, a good friend of mine." He added, "We went down to Mexico and had fun together."

The 25-year-old baseball pro has a lot riding on him.

Considered one of the best center fielders in the league, Kemp was just rewarded with a two-year, $10.95 million contract after he won Gold Glove and Silver Slugger awards.

But will his playing the Hollywood field get in the way of his professional game?

Dodgers manager Joe Torre, who has worked with Derek Jeter during his high-profile hook-ups, doesn't think so.

"When I see or sense it's become a distraction, that's when I'll say something," Torre said. "I don't like to anticipate problems."

nas-kelis-2009-09-16-300x300.jpg

Rap veteran Nas has broken his silence on estranged wife/R&B singer Kelis and their son, Knight, through a new unreleased verse from his "Strong Will Continue" collaboration song.

On the track, Nas shines light on his current child custody/support battle.

On the track, he makes reference to a 1993 incident where martial arts film star Bruce Lee's son Brandon was killed on set of The Crow. "Twisted and mangled, sort of like Bruce Lee life/ Cursed with his son Brandon/ If that's you and me Knight/ I pray our fate's greater." The 36 year-old MC is less than pleased with his reported court-ordered spousal and child support payments of $52,000 per month. "How in the h*ll am I supposed to stay comfy/ When I pay child support, alimony monthly," he raps. And as for rumors that he cheated on his wife, Nas2_bing.gif has something to say on that topic as well. "So I've stuck with some married women so fine, cheating while their husband rushing on the 40-yard line/ Wonder if this is what my ex did the whole time." (Rap-Up)

Reports last December showed Nas paying over $51,000 a month to Kelis in spousal and child support.

UPDATE: 7:54 PM PT The judge just ordered Nas to pay $40,454 in spousal support and $10,647 in child support. And, Nas must pay disso-queen Laura Wasser's attorney's fees, to the tune of $46,022. Nas has just taken the stand in his divorce case, testifying that he wants overnights with his son. Kelis has custody for now, but Nas' lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, wants his client to score some face time with the kid. (TMZ)

The two ex-lovers allegedly attempted to reconcile their differences last fall.

During Wednesday's hearing Kelis said that the couple -- who announced their intention to divorce in April after a four-year marriage -- attempted to reconcile in September to no avail. She also reportedly testified that she has been having difficulty earning money because she is a new mother and doesn't have a lot of job options outside of the music business2_bing.gif. She told the court that Nas is slated to release two albums in 2010. (MTV)

Last summer, Nas' Def Jam2_bing.gif labelmate Method Man spoke out on the rapper's situation.

"Not for nothing, and I'm not knocking, I don't know the ins and outs of their relationshipmag-glass_10x10.gif but as far as speaking for men in general, ladies come on, y'all know that's some bullsh*t," Mef added. "Ladies, let's be real and sh*t, for real for real, all you did was f*ck your man. That money right there, a kid don't need that much money to survive and sh*t. You trying to maintain your lifestyle. I wanna see the shoe on the other foot. That sh*t is ridiculous man because then you got a lot of chicks and that's not all of them, but there are some chicks out there striving to get [that]...The court system is geared more towards the women than the men." NEW YORK (AP):Jay Sean enjoys cutting up dead bodies. Really.

The Indian-British singer, who made his United States debut in grand fashion with the number-one smash Down, featuring label mate Lil Wayne, is a former medical student who used to cut up cadavers.

"Deep down inside, I'm a science geek," 26-year-old Sean said in a recent interview. "I've always been fascinated by the body and the mind."

But two and a half years into medical school, the London-born, Indian-bred performer was offered a record deal and dropped out of college.

He might have made the right choice. After two successful albums released outside of the United States, Sean has crossed over with his latest, All or Nothing.

Didn't you find it hard to balance medical school and music?

I'm a really hard-working person. I think, honestly, hard work is the only way that you'll get anywhere and this is not an easy job. People think it's easy to be a singer or to be an artiste. It's crazy hours and you need a lot of energy and some spirit inside you to do that. But similarly to be a doctor, you need just the same. Some doctors don't even get to sleep and got to perform open-heart surgery off of like 48 hours of being awake - that's hard.

This album isn't your first, though it's your US debut. Do you feel like a new artiste?

Yeah, definitely. The best part is when I'm coming over to America, nobody knows who I am, and nobody cares. I learned that the minute I got to immigration ... he was like, "So what do you do?" and I went "I'm a singer." He goes, "I haven't heard of you!" ... I realised that, "OK, you know what, I have got a clean slate here, people don't know anything about my history or my background or what I achieved, (so) let me prove myself again." And I love that.

How was your first experience meeting Lil Wayne?

The first day I landed in Miami to meet Cash Money, it's two in the morning and when he came in, he came like a hurricane, like this energy he has about him ... he was mad cool, gave mad love, he was like, "Yo man, I've checked out all your videos and your music and I'm feeling it. Welcome to the family brother."

Were your surprised to see Down do so well?

I was like, "Ugh, are they gonna like it? Is it going to be played on radio? Are you sure they're going to play it on the radio? You sure?" And then when I heard it on the radio, I was like, "They're playing it on the radio, this is amazing!" ... Then I remember we threw a big party when it cracked the Top 100 (on) Billboard. I remember we were popping bottles, and I was like "Yeah, Top 100!" ... And then in a few months it's shooting all the way up and I was like, "Oh OK, it's getting stupid now, like what's going on?"

What else do you want to do in your career?

I've always been into acting and I know it's such a cliché: "Oh wow, he's doing the films. Surprise, surprise." It's like a lot of singers end up doing that or vice versa. But that's what I used to do in school, I used to write screenplays when I was a little kid, so for me acting is something I definitely want to go into.

You could play a doctor, right?

Dr. Dre Sues Death Row Records

Producer/rapper Dr. Dre has just filed a lawsuit against Death Row Records/WIDEawake Entertainment since he has yet to receive money from his album The Chronic in over 14 years.

Upon leaving Death Row Records in the mid-nineties Dr. Dre was no longer cut in on any of The Chronics profits. Even when the album was re-released last year as The Chronic Re-Lit he did not receive any kind of payment from the label.

"When it came to paying artist royalties and honoring limits on Dr. Dre recordings that could be released, the new Death Row Records, to quote our client, 'forgot about Dre,'" Howard King, Dr. Dres attorney, said in a statement. "This lawsuit will make sure they remember."

Dr. Dre also claims that WIDEawake Entertainment, the company that bought Death Row Records, released The Chronic Re-Lit without his consent and that the company profited greatly from the re-release. Dr. Dre is suing for at least $75,000.

Young Money's Nicki Minaj has gotten into the spirit of this weekend's Valentine's Day celebration by offering a few tips for guys looking to impress their significant others.

From Nicki's perspective, V-Day2_bing.gif is all about the girls.

"For the men on Valentine's Day2_bing.gif? Be traditional," Nicki said in an interview. "Don't get caught up in the hype of doing something crazy. Be traditional. Teddy bears, candy, lingerie, sexy heels, thigh-high boots -- red! Don't expect a gift [guys] -- you're not getting one. You don't deserve one. You don't need one. It's all about the girls." (MTV)

Last December, the rapper talked about putting music over a sex life.

"I have no dating life, I can only hope and wish and imagine and fantasize," she said in an interview. "They demand too much. In life there's always going to be one thing that takes precedence, and when you're as hungry as I am you have tunnel vision. So I can't really cater to a dude right now -- I love them and I think they're cute, but I can't do what they want me to do for them right now. I've always wanted to go to Hawaii. I really want to go there and just lay on the beach. Then, also, I could have the other rap girls feed me fruit--since they don't have anything to do right now! [Laughs.] Strawberries, grapes, watermelon, and pineapple. I so know that part is going to make the interview." (Complex)

Outside of romance, Minaj has been focused on getting out her Young Money debut album.

"The [album], that's what I'm actually getting ready to work on because I've been on the road for such a long time, I'm taking a complete hiatus for the next couple months, unfortunately, for all the promoters giving crazy offers," Minaj told DJ Whoo Kid. "And I've been turning every one because I have to put my foot down for the next few months and deliver a classic album and I already have stuff and I can't wait for the world to hear. All the stuff we talk about is fun and games and all that but the music is what's most important and I don't want all the people to be distracted by the other stuff and so I'm gonna take a break and when I come back you guys will have some very, very great music." (Radio Planet TV)

She previously addressed the pressure to reach perfection on her first try.

"Well Trina is also doing her thing," Nicki said in an interview. "To answer whether I feel pressure, of course I do and I'm a perfectionist and I want that to be, you know, I want this buzz to meet everybody's expectations, surpass everybody's expectations of the people that do support me. Because you got so many people that don't support you, but to the ones that do, they look at me and they see big things and I don't want to disappoint them. So to say I don't have pressure, I'd be lying, I do. I feel it all the time, I feel like yo, I have to make this a masterpiece." ("On-Air Idiot Show")

GANGSTERS CARE FOR OLD WOMAN

February 12, 2010

Residents of a community in Portland are singing the praises for a group of known thugs who live with and care for an elderly blind woman.

THE WEEKEND STAR learnt that the group of three men took over a four-bedroom house in which the 85-year-old woman lives after her grandson migrated to the United States sometime last year.

It is said that he begged other persons from the community to help take care of her, promising that he would send money whenever she needed it.

However, a few months after he left, they stopped hearing from him and calls to his cellphone are still going unanswered.

"A we use to take care of her but few months after her grandson leave di yute dem take ova di place ... . At first, we did mad bout it but wi realise seh dem actually a tek care of di lady ...,"Julie Sandwich, a resident of the community said.

THE WEEKEND STAR was told that the men had simply declared one day that they would be living at the house.

One young man who would normally have visited the elderly woman to check up on her was reportedly beaten after expressing his dislike for the men's rather bold move.

"A dem man deh run di place still eno so one day wi jus hear seh dem seh dem a guh run di yard. One yute tek it up pon himself fi tell dem seh dem cyaa do dat and dem beat him," another resident,Para Chute, explained.

THE WEEKEND STAR did not get a chance to speak with the men, but a number of residents who were contacted via telephone spoke highly of them.

"At first, people did all want call police but everybody a big dem up now," Sandwich said.

According to the residents, the men wash, cook and clean for the woman and even take her to church every Sunday morning.

They also say other people from the community still visit her and she seems quite contented and not troubled by the idea that the men who take care of her are known thugs.

"People still look fi her regular and ting cause a whole heap a years she live here, so she well respected. As far as me know, she love di yute dem, she say dem deal wid har good and she nuh have no problem wit dem," said Chute.

The Portland police say they are not aware of such a case but admit it sounded like a touching story. Nevertheless, they say, the good deeds of the men will not do much for them if they become targets of the police.

"I personally have not heard of it but it sounds like something to check out. Let's just hope that these men are not involved in activities that will make them persons of interest to us," a detective constable from the division said.

MAN KILLS SELF OVER BILL?

February 10, 2010
Started By jubalson13 Comments

Investigators from the Seaview Gardens police are examining the possibility that a 65-year-old man who reportedly committed suicide a few weeks ago was driven to the act because of a $185,000 utility bill.

The body of Phillip Blackwood was found hanging inside his bedroom on January 26 by residents who became concerned after they had not seen him for a while. Reports are that the residents called his cellular phone but it went unanswered, and when they visited his home they heard it ringing inside. When they gained entry to his home his body was found.

According to the police, the utility company was carrying out an exercise in the community to regulate illegal connections and had issued bills to several residents.

Residents reportedly spread the word that if the bills were not paid persons would be sent to jail.

The police say they received reports that Blackwood said he was not able to pay the money he owed and would most likely be jailed. It is alleged that he said this over and over to residents of the area.

The police said several bills were found on the deceased man's bed and a cryptic note which read: 'I have found myself on the wrong side of things' was scribbled on the back of the $185,000 bill.

Blackwood, the police said, lived alone as his wife and children were overseas.

JAMAICA HAS GAY CHURCH?

February 12, 2010

Jamaica is notoriously referred to as one of the most homophobic countries, so it may come as a shock to find out that at least once every month, a gay church reportedly keeps service in Kingston.

While THE WEEKEND STAR was not able to find out the exact location of the church, evidence of one of their worship sessions was posted on popular video sharing site Youtube.com under the title 'Gays in Jamaica worship in underground church'.

The video which appears to be a special feature done on the church, was uploaded on November 11, by Worldfocus.org. The entity identifies itself as an international news source that, among other things, reports 'on events from around the world and cover the stories that don't always make the headlines'. Since being uploaded, the video has recorded approximately 4,000 hits.

worship in secret

The close to six-minute-long clip starts with the narrative: 'Jamaica is often said to hold the world record for the most churches per-square-mile. There's a public place of worship for almost everyone, unless you're gay. If you are, you must worship in secret. Reverend Robert Griffin, a gay-American minister flies to Kingston once a month to lead this underground service ...'

Midway through this introduction, the clip shows the male members of the church and Griffin, the head, singing a song Welcome Holy Spirit with eyes closed and hands lifted as if in deep meditative worship.

Throughout the video, the males, whose faces are blurred, are seen holding hands, resting arms around each other, playing tambourine and singing lively choruses, clapping and even taking communion.

While speaking to the interviewer, Griffin said the church had to operate underground because of the "hostility towards the gay and lesbian community here in Jamaica." The minister said going public would "invite harm (and) danger to the congregation."

The pastor said that there was no physical church building or tent but that everything needed to keep the services, bible, communion condiments and tambourines, were kept in boxes until the appointed time.

During a section of pastor's sermon to his gay gathering, he was heard telling the church: "God loves us because, guess what? God created us. And God did not create us just to sit around and hate us because we chose to love someone of the same gender."

Towards the end of the video, Griffin chided local ministers for what he described as their messages of hate and violence towards gays in Jamaica and called for an end to such practices on the part of the local clergy.

Head of the Kingston-based Faith Cathedral Deliverance Centre, Bishop Herro Blair, was interviewed by the news agency in the video and he spoke on the behalf of the local religious leaders.

Blair stated that Jamaica was a homophobic society that grew up to dislike homosexuals and to hate homosexuality. He said that God's concept was an Adam and an Eve for the continuity of the human race and that homosexuality in and of itself, has the potential to hinder that God-intended process.

When contacted by THE WEEKEND STAR yesterday, Blair said that he was interviewed over a year ago but he had never seen the taping since.

He said that he did not know if the gay church was still active as he never made any checks on it.

As for the request that the gay pastor made in the video for local ministers to stop preaching against homosexuality, Blair said: "To do that would be a compromise of our faith ... If they have a right to be wrong, then we have a right to be right."
