Portmore Empire singjay,Vanessa Saddler, more popularly known as Gaza Slim, has become the third member of the "Gaza" group to face a charge in relation to a case involving the group's leader, Vybz Kartel.

Gaza Slim, otherwise known as Vanessa Bling, was formally charged on Friday morning with conspiracy to pervert the course of justice in relation to the Clive "Lizard" Williamsmurder investigation. This took place four days after the Empire singjay turned herself in to the Constant Spring Police after she was named a person of interest in the Kartel matter.

Gaza Slim' predicament resulted from an alleged false police report that she filed on October 29; claiming that Williams, who Kartel and others stand accused of killing, robbed and gun-butted her in Havendale, St. Andrew. However, law enforcement officials recently insisted that they have a cellular phone containing a text message where Kartel ordered Gaza Slimto concoct the robbery story in an attempt to aid his defence. As a result, Gaza Slim will at least spend this weekend in jail.

Gaza Slim joins fellow Empire singjay, Shawn Storm and Kartel's road manager, Calvin "Moonie" Haye and Cayro Jones as associates of "Di Teacha" who are jointly charged in Williams's murder. Kartel faces a December 19 hearing when a bail application in the matter will likely be made.

OKLAHOMA, USA (AP) - Horses could soon be butchered in the US for human consumption after Congress quietly lifted a five-year-old ban on funding horse meat inspections, and activists say slaughterhouses could be up and running in as little as a month.

Slaughter opponents pushed a measure cutting off funding for horse meat inspections through Congress in 2006 after other efforts to pass outright bans on horse slaughter failed in previous years. Congress lifted the ban in a spending bill President Barack Obama signed into law November 18 to keep the government afloat until mid-December.

It did not, however, allocate any new money to pay for horse meat inspections, which opponents claim could cost taxpayers $3 million to $5 million a year. The US Department of Agriculture would have to find the money in its existing budget, which is expected to see more cuts this year as Congress and the White House aim to trim federal spending.

The USDA issued a statement Tuesday saying there are no slaughterhouses in the US that butcher horses for human consumption now, but if one were to open, it would conduct inspections to make sure federal laws were being followed. USDA spokesman Neil Gaffney declined to answer questions beyond what was in the statement.

The last US slaughterhouse that butchered horses closed in 2007 in Illinois, and animal welfare activists warned of massive public outcry in any town where a slaughterhouse may open.

"If plants open up in Oklahoma or Nebraska, you'll see controversy, litigation, legislative action and basically a very inhospitable environment to operate," predicted Wayne Pacelle, president and chief executive of The Humane Society of the United States. "Local opposition will emerge and you'll have tremendous controversy over slaughtering Trigger and Mr Ed."

But pro-slaughter activists say the ban had unintended consequences, including an increase in neglect and the abandonment of horses, and that they are scrambling to get a plant going possibly in Wyoming, North Dakota, Nebraska or Missouri. They estimate a slaughterhouse could open in 30 to 90 days with state approval and eventually as many as 200,000 horses a year could be slaughtered for human consumption. Most of the meat would be shipped to countries in Europe and Asia, including France and Japan.

Soccer legend on life support...

December 3, 2011

SAO PAULO, Brazil (AP) Former Brazil captain Socrates is back in the hospital and on life support.

A hospital in Sao Paulo says the 57-year-old Socrates is suffering from septic shock resulting from an intestinal infection.

Socrates was last in the hospital in September. That was for a hemorrhage caused by high pressure in the vein that carries *la*hd from the digestive system to the liver.

Socrates has acknowledged being a heavy drinker, even when he starred as a player in the 1980s.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -- Diego Maradona has taken another swipe at Pele, saying the retired Brazilian star must have taken the "wrong medication'' when he suggested Neymar was better than Lionel Messi.

Speaking in Dubai on Thursday, Maradona acknowledged that the young Brazilian forward was good but insisted he never will be able to match Messi, the Argentinian who is a favorite to win his third straight FIFA Player of the Year award.

Maradona, who coaches Al Wasl, has been at conflict with Pele for years. The two sparred last year when Pele criticized Maradona's coaching of Argentina during the 2010 World Cup.

Pele has said that Neymar was "technically'' better than Messi, but that the Brazilian has a lot to prove if he wants to be considered the best player in the world one day. That didn't sit well with Maradona, who is currently the coach of the United Arab Emirates club Al Wasl.

"It seems Pele took the wrong medication,'' Maradona said. "Instead of taking his night pill, he took the morning pill. He got confused and didn't know what he was talking about ... I suggest next time he take the right pills before making any suggestions and that he should change his doctor.''

Maradona arrived back in Dubai on Friday after burying his mother Dalma Salvadora Franco de Maradona in Argentina. He said that while he was going through "a very sad moment'' in his life.

"It was a very emotional time,'' Maradona said. "But as soon as I buried my mother, the first thought that came to my mind was coming back to team. I owe it to them. They showed me a lot of support. They are showing excellent form.''

SAO PAULO On and off the field, former Brazil star Socrates stood out above the rest.

His elegant style and his deep involvement with politics made him a unique figure in Brazilian soccer, setting him apart from the players of his time and even of today.

He was mostly known for captaining Brazil at the 1982 World Cup, regarded by many as the best team ever not to win football's showcase tournament.

But he was also widely known for his heavy drinking, which he publicly admitted caused the health problems which eventually helped lead to his death on Sunday.

The Albert Einstein hospital said in a statement that Socrates died of septic shock at 4:30 a.m. Brazilian time (0630 GMT). He was 57.

Thirty-year-old Junior Christie who was recently sentenced to three months' imprisonment at hard labour for stealing $350 worth of ackees from a tree at King's House has received legal aid and is appealing his case.

He was yesterday offered $30,000 bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

Last Thursday, Christie was sentenced by Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey after he pleaded guilty to praedial larceny.

On Tuesday, the Governor General, Sir Patrick Allen, responded to calls for him to pardon Christie.

Since Christie's sentencing, there has been much public disquiet from human rights lobby group, Jamaicans for Justice, members of the legal fraternity and ordinary Jamaicans.

Pardon The Sentence

Christie's sentencing has been described as excessive, with some calling for the Governor General to exercise his authority to pardon the sentence.

Sir Patrick explained that he can only exercise the prerogative of mercy after a legal action is taken to the Privy Council and consultations are held.

He noted that the constitution prevents him from taking unilateral action in matters adjudicated by the courts.

Police sources say entertainer Gaza Slim has been listed as a person of interest because they believe she made a false robbery report in order to protect her Portmore Empire boss, Vybz Kartel.

Gaza Slim, whose given name is Vanessa Saddler, had reported that Clive 'Lizard' Williams, the man Palmer is accused of killing on August 16, assaulted her during a robbery in Havendale, St Andrew.

Her report made to the St Andrew North police claimed that the incident occured on October 29, five days after Kartel had been charged with Lizard's murder.

According to police sources, they have evidence including phone records showing that Saddler and Palmer planned to "stage a robbery that did not occur."

Saddler is now being investigated for attempting to pervert the course of justice and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

"The police charged Kartel for a murder (Williams) but there was no body. So the robbery was to assist Kartel in his defence," explained a source close to the case.

robbery

In a release sent to THE WEEKEND STAR yesterday, the police said that several attempts have been made to contact Saddler but to date they have been unable to locate her. She is being asked to report to police personnel at the Constant Spring Police Station by noon today.

When contacted yesterday, Palmer's attorney Christian Tavares-Finson, however, scoffed at the claim that the robbery was staged to help the defence, calling it a "rumour."

"As far as we are concerned we have a long road ahead and will not allow Mr Palmer's defence to be side-tracked by rumours," he said when contacted.

Kartel, who has been in custody since October 1 when he was arrested for possession of ganja at a New Kingston hotel, is expected to return to the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court today for the Williams case. His attorneys have indicated that they will seek bail for him.

Police investigators believe Williams was beaten and stabbed to death at a house in Havendale, St Andrew. They have also charged Kartel's fashion stylist Calvin 'Moonie' Haye, deejay Shawn Storm, and Cairo Jones in relation to the murder.

They have also informed a judge at the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court that they have video recordings of the killing.

KARTEL GETS BAIL

December 1, 2011
Started By GAZAJAM5 Comments

ENTERTAINER Vybz Kartel was granted $3 million bail in the Supreme Court today.
The bail was in relation to his alleged murder earlier this year of Barrington Bossie Bryan.
The bail application was made by defence attorney Tom Tavares-Finson, who appeared in chambers with Michael Deans and Chris Tavares-Finson.
The attorney took the matter to the High Court after Kartel was refused bail in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court last month.
This, however, does not mean that Kartel will be released from jail, as he is currently facing another murder charge.
The entertainer, along with three other men fellow deejay Shawn Shawn Storm Campbell; fashion designer Calvin Haye; and Cayro Jones are charged with the August 16 murder of Clive Lizard Williams.

The men are to appear in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court tomorrow, where bail applications are expected to be made.

Diane Davies thinks every day of her holiday in Barbados last winter. But she wishes she could forget it. Link to Trinidad Express News report: http://bit.ly/u0B2kS For this 62-year-old grandmother of nine, holiday memories don't mean happy images of a paradise island with palm trees, white sand and warm seas. Instead, she relives over and over the brutal rape she suffered in broad daylight in one of the island's most exclusive areas. Her anguish over this horrific attack is compounded by her treatment by the local police and victim-support personnel, which, at best, could be characterised as breathtakingly incompetent and, at worst, as callously indifferent. Indeed, Diane, a widow, believes the island's authorities are more concerned about protecting the lucrative tourist industry than they are about seeking justice. It is for this reason, one year on, she has decided to break her silence and talk about her ordeal. "Initially, I was utterly devastated and humiliated by what happened to me," she says. "But with the passing of time, I am now just very angry. "The Barbados police are totally inept at dealing with this sort of crime, in both practical and pastoral ways. "Despite the fact that there had been a rape two days earlier in the exact location where I was attacked, there were no officers about or any warnings. I believe they try to brush the rapes under the carpet, so as not to damage the overseas tourist market, which includes 250,000 British holiday-makers a year. "It works because many women feel too ashamed to talk about what happened to them. But I want to speak out because people should be aware of the dangers. "The truth is that if a woman is raped in Barbados, she is unlikely to get the support she needs. There are almost no procedures in place, and the police are way behind in how they tackle crime. I am also very disappointed with the British High Commission, which has done almost nothing to help me. "The police claimed they had arrested the man in May but, for reasons they refuse to reveal, they won't let me identify him. So how does anyone know it is him? Instead, he has been taken to court once a month ever since, and the case is then adjourned. I believe it is just for show." Diane, originally from Manchester, England, has lived on Anglesey for 11 years. Her husband, Trevor, a pensions manager, died from pancreatic cancer in 2005 after 24 years of marriage. A year later, she moved into her bungalow. Two years ago, as her 60th birthday approached, Diane, a primary school teacher, decided to treat herself to a holiday. "I decided on Barbados, not least because everything I read said how safe it was," she says. "I didn't mind going on my ownI have always been independent. I rented a flat in a condominium for two weeks. It was very luxurious, with the biggest swimming pool on site in Barbados. "It was in the Holetown district, near where the rich and famous, including Simon Cowell and Tony Blair, come to stay and close to the Sandy Lane Hotel. I made friends with couples at the condominium and enjoyed myself so much, I decided to go back again last year and flew out on October 17. "I used to get up at 6 a.m, go for a jog and then come back and swim in the pool. After lunch, I'd walk to the beach, which was ten minutes away, and swim in the sea. I'd then usually meet a couple from Jersey for a drink on the beach and then walk back with them so I was home before 7 p.m. I stayed in every evening because that was the sensible thing to do. "On Monday, October 25, I was walking to the beach as usual, at about 2 p.m., in bright sunshine. I turned down a short pathway and at the end, stood for a few moments, wondering whether to go to the left and swim with the turtles or to the right, when I suddenly felt a powerful arm grab me around the neck from behind and drag me backwards. I started to scream, but the man put his hand over my mouth to stop me. I bit him. "He continued to drag me backwards over bits of glass and other debris until we got to what was a derelict hotel. He threw me on an old mattress, and I started fighting him with all my strength because I was terrified he would kill me. He then grabbed the beach towel I had been carrying and held it over my face so I couldn't breathe, which forced me to stop struggling. He was also holding down my shoulder so hard that I later discovered he had broken my collarbone. He suddenly picked me up and carried me to another empty room. "I am five feet, four inches and weigh just under nine stone. He was black, tall and muscular, in his mid-30s, with a shaved head, a chubby, baby face and dressed only in white shorts. I was overpowered. "He then took off my sarong and bikini and raped me. I felt sure he would kill me because I had seen his face but suddenly remembered reading that it can help if you talk to a rapist, so that they see you as a person rather than an object. "So I told him I was a 61-year-old grandmother with four children and nine grandchildren and felt he slightly softened. I think talking to him saved my life. When he had finished, he said, "Make yourself decent, but if you tell anyone about this, I will kill you." He then walked away. "I grabbed my clothes and staggered about 50 yards where I came across an exclusive beach club and saw families happily swimming in a pool. It may sound silly, but at that moment, I felt so relieved that I was alive that I was strangely euphoric. "Many of them stared, shocked, at my face, which I hadn't realised was bruised and swollen. Someone called the police, and I sat waiting in a daze, unaware of any of my injuries. "Three police officers arrived shortly afterwards. They told me to get in the car and they would drive me around to see if I could see the rapist. Their attitude was totally clinical, and not one said any word of sympathy. I didn't see him, and after about an hour, I was taken to the local police station where I waited another hour before being driven to see the female police doctor. "The doctor dressed the wounds on my legs from being dragged over glass, took a DNA swab and told me I was very bruised internally. I was then driven back to the station and, to my horror, left sitting outside in the back of the police car on my own for 45 minutes. I was so terrified that the rapist, who had threatened to kill me if I went to the police, might walk by and see me that I didn't dare get out and walk into the police station. Lots of people peered into the window to look at me, which was awful. The insensitivity of the police was breathtaking. "Eventually, I was driven back to my apartment for half an hour to have a bath, but my shoulder was hurting so badly I couldn't wash or even brush my hair. The police then took me to the local hospital where an X-ray showed I had a broken collarbone and two cracked ribs. I was also given antiviral tablets, in case the rapist was HIV-positive, and a hepatitis B injection." (Diane subsequently tested negative for HIV.) "While I was there, Joanne Carey from the British Consulate came to see me. She told me that the police had only just told her that another British woman, who was in her 20s, had been raped at the same spot two days earlier. I later discovered there are at least 55 known rapes on the island a yea13 in the past year in the spot where I was attacked." In fact, according to the Royal Barbados Police Force website, there were 169 incidents of rape, indecent assault and assault with intent to rape in 2010. "The next day, at 5.30 p.m., I was driven to the police station to give a statement," Diane continues. "I was questioned for five and a half hours without being offered any food or drink in 86°F [30°C] heat. My questioner was a female police officer who plainly didn't know what she was doing and kept asking me the same questions over and over again while she constantly checked a police manual. "By 11 p.m., I was in agony with my shoulder and asked if I could go home, not least to take a painkiller. The officer turned to me and said, "It's not easy for me, you know. I have to do my tour of duty after I have finished with you." I was speechless at her lack of compassion. "Later on, I was again taken to the police station, this time for an identity parade. The rapist wasn't there, which was lucky in one way as all the men were led right past me as they went out and could identify me." On another visit to the hospital, she was left in the casualty department while a victim-support officer went off to chat to her friends. "I was absolutely terrified and totally vulnerable about what might happen to me." She catches her breath. "Please, put this in. People need to know how they treat their visitors in Barbados." She was being taken back to her condominium by police when they stopped at a shopping mall where she had to sit waiting while a female police officer went to buy a T-shirt. Diane flew home on Sunday, October 31. "My sister and youngest son, Gary, came to Manchester Airport to meet me, and when I saw them, I burst into tears. It is very unlike me, but I was so relieved to get home." She was told by the police tourism officer and the British Consulate that she would be kept up-to-date with her case, but Diane says that unless she pesters the individuals concerned, she hears nothing. "Both the police and the Consulate are inept," Diane says. "I am so angry that no one has taken what happened to me seriously or realises the impact it has had on my life. My collarbone has never healed, and living with it is a terrible reminder. I will no longer go abroad or go out in the evening, and wherever I walk during the day, I am constantly looking anxiously over my shoulder. "I have submitted a complaint to the Police Complaints Authority in Barbados. Last week, after months, I received a reply from the chairman, saying they can't investigate my complaint because my case is pending before the courts. What nonsense. I was complaining about procedure, not the case itself. I'm going to keep on. I want justice and to know they haven't dragged anyone off the street just to make a charge. "It is also hard to believe that throughout my experience, no police officer or victim-support worker asked me if I was all right or showed any sympathy. All I was doing was walking to the sea at 2 p.m. on a beautiful day. It never occurred to me that I could be raped close to a luxury estate on a paradise island, yards from where celebrities stay. But if a 61-year-old can be raped, it is a dangerous place for women of any age." The police in Barbados were not available for comment. The above is a shortened version of the story published in the Daily Mail in London, England on Tuesday.

Video and voice evidence to be handed over to defence team

BY PAUL HENRY Crime/court co-ordinator

CAGED Deejay Vybz Kartel will have to wait until December 19 to know if he will be released on bail.

The Deejay appeared in the Corporate Area Resident magistrate's Court this morning expecting that a bail application would be filed by his attorneys on his behalf but a spanner was thrown into the works after it was revealed that certain documents relating to the case was not ready to be served on the defense.

Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey ruled today that the prosecution must hand over video and voide evidence to the defense no later than December 15.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidjah Palmer, is facing two murder charges as well as conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of ganja.

Yesterday he was offered $3 million bail in relation to the murder of Barrington 'Bossie' Bryan who was shot dead in Gregory Park, St Catherine earlier this year.

He will return later this month to learn his fate in relation to the murder of Clive 'Lizard' Williams, who was allegedly beaten to death in August. His body has not yet been found.

Palmer is charged jointly with fellow Deejay Shan 'Shawn Storm Campbell, fashion designer Calvin Haye and Cayro Jones for Williams' murder.

ST George's College (StGC) sealed the coveted Corporate Area schoolboy double with a 2-1 win over Kingston College (KC) in the final of the ISSA/Digicel/Gatorade Walker Cup Knock-out competition at Constant Spring yesterday.

Substitute Davion Kelly scored the winner for the Neville Bell-conditioned boys in the 60th minute after KC's captain Richard Wilson (48th) had cancelled out Mark Browns 45th-minute opener.

georges1.jpg

Bell was proud of his players for putting on a gritty performance against their old rivals.

"Before the game I said it was going to be tough, and it was. It was always going to be difficult to get them in shape for this match.

"I thank God we got it together and we won. It was not the typical smooth St Georges College, but we showed a lot of grit," said Bell, who previously won the Walker Cup as coach in 1991, 1992 and 1993.

The St George's team, which won the Manning Cup title on Saturday, looked short of inspiration and verve in the early exchanges against their North Street neighbours.

The talented KC outfit, still showing signs of the disappointment of the secondround exit in the Manning Cup weeks ago, failed to take advantage, despite promising attacking forays from left-sided player Shamala Ashman and midfielder Jorginho James.

Instead, it was the newlycrowned Manning Cup champions who went ahead when Brown pounded in from close range on the stroke of half-time.

The KC team, which last won the KO title back in 2000, fought their way back soon after the interval through Wilsons goal from a corner kick. The defender rose highest at the back post to force a header past goalkeeper Nico Campbell.

Kelly, who has consistently scored crucial goals, including a double in the Manning Cup final, came off the bench to immediately restore the 'Light Blues' lead on the hour mark.

The powerful forward attacked a loose ball and executed a well-placed halfvolley from just inside the 18-yard box.

Despite going behind for a second time in the game, KC remained fairly solid at the back as the diminutive Jason Greenland and Andre Hare fought gamely to hold off the threats of St George's midfielder Richard Garvey, the speedy Kendon Anderson, Kelly and fellow substitute Cardel Benbow.

In the final 15 minutes, St George's College enjoyed the better of possession, but the Trevor Harris-coached KC remained dangerous from crosses and set pieces.

The hundreds of spectators watched as both teams agonisingly squandered late chances, which left St George's with a 2-1 win and an eighth lien on the Walker Cup title.

Harris bemoaned the missed chances, but praised his opponents for having a good football infrastructure.

"I think we fought hard, but we got our chances and we didn't take them. I take nothing away from St George's because they were strong and I think they have perhaps one of the best schoolboy football organisations right now," Harris said.

One prison officer died of a heart attack as a result of the escape and twelve others were injured, including two who were shot with guns that had been smuggled into the prison.
Shortly after 1:00 am, Vybz Kartel, whose given name is Adidja Palmer, took control of the jail holding the prison guards hostage at gunpoint. Some of the prisoners took the guards clothing and car keys in order to help with their escape.
The group of prisoners also impersonated prison officers on the phone and created false stories to ward off suspicion from authorities
The Police gave chase resulting in the capture of one of the prisoners.
At about 1:45 am, they eventually made their way to the prison maintenance pickup-truck which they used to escape from the prison ground.
The escape occurred during the slowest period of the night when there would be less surveillance of certain locations like the maintenance area.
News in the street is that the Force Commissioner, who heads the Criminal Investigations Branch, said that the artiste and the other escapees are now on the run and are listed as Jamaicas most wanted criminals.
Palmer, who has been in custody since October 1, has been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and illegal possession of firearm arising from the death of Barrington Burton, a St Catherine businessman/promoter. Burton was shot and killed while standing with friends in Gregory Park, St Catherine, in July.
Also, Kartel along with fellow Portmore Empire artiste, Shawn Storm, his designer/booking agent, Calvin Moonie Haye and Cayro Jones appeared simultaneously in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates Court. Each of the men was charged with murder in relation to the killing of Clive Lizard Williams in Havendale, St. Andrew this past August.
Persons seeing or knowing the whereabouts of any of the escapees including the deejay are asked to contact detectives at the Spanish Town Police Station, Kingfish at 811, Crime Stop at 311 or Police Control at 119.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Can there be no trust between a kidnapper and his hostages?

A man who held a Kansas couple hostage in their home while fleeing from authorities is suing them, claiming they broke an oral contractmade when he promised them money in exchange for hiding him from police. The couple has asked a judge to dismiss the suit.

Jesse Dimmick of suburban Denver is serving an 11-year sentence after bursting into Jared and Lindsay Rowley's Topeka-area home in September 2009. He was wanted for questioning in the beating death of a Colorado man and a chase had begun in in Geary County.

The Topeka Capital-Journal (http://bit.ly/skb0Rl ) reported that Dimmick filed a breach of contract suit in Shawnee County District Court, in response to a suit the Rowleys filed in September seeking $75,000 from him for intruding in their home and causing emotional stress.

Dimmick contends he told the couple he was being chased by someone, most likely the police, who wanted to kill him.

"I, the defendant, asked the Rowleys to hide me because I feared for my life. I offered the Rowleys an unspecified amount of money which they agreed upon, therefore forging a legally binding oral contract," Dimmick said in his hand-written court documents. He wants $235,000, in part to pay for the hospital bills that resulted from him being shot by police when they arrested him.

Neighbors have said the couple fed Dimmick snacks and watched movies with him until he fell asleep and they were able to escape their home unharmed.

Dimmick was convicted in May 2010 of four felonies, including two counts of kidnapping. He was sentenced to 10 years and 11 months on those charges. He was later sent to a jail in Brighton, Colo., where he is being held on eight charges, including murder, in connection of with the killing of Michael Curtis in September 2009. A preliminary hearing originally scheduled for Dec. 6 has been rescheduled for April 12. No plea has been entered in the case.

Robert E. Keeshan, an attorney for the Rowleys, filed a motion denying there was a contract, but said if there was it would not have been binding anyway.

"In order for parties to form a binding contract, there must be a meeting of the minds on all essential terms, including and most specifically, an agreement on the price," he wrote.

Keeshan said the contract also would have been invalid because the couple agreed to let Dimmick in the home only because they knew he had a knife and suspected he might have a gun.

POLICE have thrown cold water on claims that embattled Deejay Vybz Kartel has escaped from the New Horizon Adult Remand Centre early this morning.

Reports have gone viral on the internet and on social networks that the Deejay and seven other inmates held guards hostage at gunpoint minutes after 1:00 am and stole uniforms and a vehicle belonging to the Correctional Services Department before escaping.

The police have also dispelled rumours that a guard died from a heart attack and 12 others were injured.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green told the Observer early this morning that he had no knowledge of the reported jail break.

"I know nothing about that. If that had taken place I would would certainly have known," Green said.

Police at Denham Town Police station, the closest police station to the remand centre were also unaware of the reports as was the Constabulary Communication Network who also claimed ignorance of any jail break.

"It may be an attempt by his cronies to keep him in the news but they don't need to spread rumours to do that because he will be in the news for quite some time," one cop told the Observer.

Vybz Kartel, whose real name is Adijah Palmer, is facing two murder charges, conspiracy to murder, illegal possession of a firearm and possession of ganja charges.

He was arrested on October 1 and has repeatedly been denied bail when he appeared in court.

New *lo**, old dubs

March 28, 2008

The sound clash business has a problem, one which I do not see just how they will get around, especially in the short run.

It needs new *lo** to keep it going, as does any creative industry, but it is a business where the old 'foundation' music is treasured. So just where will these new sounds get access to the old songs, many done by artistes who are already dead?

And even if they can manage to get some of the older artistes to do songs, they will not sound old. The voices have changed slightly, there are different engineers, the digital sound is different from the analog and all these subtle and not-so-subtle variations are amplified for a very discerning clash audience.

So on Easter Monday (well, more Tuesday morning) at Pier One in Montego Bay, St James, when the Panther-led Black Kat and Mighty Crown went to the tune-for-tune section, it was old dubs all the way. In the vintage section that preceded the main clash the crowd cheered loudest for a Supercat dub of 'Don Dada' done for David Rodigan.

Sure, the Mavados and the DeMarcos and Tarrus Rileys went over well in the early segment of the clash; but when it came to the 'Nitty Gritty' (King Jammys played him) it was the foundation tunes that run the cut, Mighty Crown actually going that route in the last elimination round, 'Conqueror' and 'Tempo' among the tunes that really hit.

New sound

Hype Zone, the new sound that organisers Irish and Chin introduced to Death Before Dishonour did not show any signs of having even cut some old songs in a new way to at least appear to be the much vaunted 'foundation'. (Mighty Crown had Jimmy Cliff's Harder They Come and 'Many Rivers to Cross'. They are still 'gettable' for some.) Last year's new entrant, Silver Star, had the same problem and, like Hype Zone, relied on new dubs and a whole heap of insults. Even with their area supporters (Silver Star had a lot and bottles flew) inside Pier One it was not enough.

It appears to me that for a long time to come, it will be Black Kat, Jaro, Bass Odyssey, Mighty Crown, David Rodigan and the usual crew who will be worth seeing clash against each other. Whether or not the clash fans will be satisfied with this round-robin style for some time to come is another matter.

Katherine Jackson
says immediately after Michael Jackson was pronounced dead, his daughter Paris was crying, saying, "I wanna go with you." -- this according to the official Probation Report obtained by TMZ.

In the report, Katherine lashes out at Murray for his documentary, in which he lays blame for MJ's death on the singer and not Murray himself.  The report says, "During filming, he repeatedly stated that he did nothing wrong.  Ms. Jackson feels this adds insult to injury, and shows that he is clearly not remorseful."

Katherine feels a 4-year sentence is "insufficient."

Katherine also says she was "deeply insulted" that on the anniversary of Michael's death, Murray arranged to be photographed at the cemetery.

Yes, really.

General Cannabis Inc. has just announced that its acquired Marijuana.com. The company didnt disclose the details of the deal, but weve confirmed that the acquisition price was $4.20 million. Naturallycp.

The executives involved obviously have a sense of humor, but General Cannabis is a serious business: its traded on the OTCQX market, and a year ago it acquired WeedMaps, a popular Yelp for Cannabis Dispensaries site with a large following.  WeedMaps was topping $400,000 a month in revenues at the time of the acquisition and its growing nicely the site did over $1 million in gross revenues in July, and now sees 10 million page views a monthdr2.

(USA TODAY) - Ginger White, an Atlanta-based woman, is coming forward with allegations that she had a 13-year-long extramarital affair with Herman Cain.

In an interview with Atlanta's FOX 5 News which aired Monday night, White told FOX 5's Dale Russell that she had an ongoing affair with Cain starting in the late 1990s, when Cain was president of the National Restaurant Association, until about eight months ago - right before he started running for president, according to a report from the Fox affiliate.

"I'm not proud," White said. "I didn't want to come out with this. I did not."

"It was pretty simple," she added. "It wasn't complicated. I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship."

In an appearance on CNN before White's interview aired, Cain said he knew the woman but denied that they had had an affair.

As CBS News political correspondent Jan Crawford reports, a statement provided to CBS News from Cain attorney Lin Wood did not go so far as to deny an affair. Wood's statement said White's accusations of a consensual affair between two adults was not a legitimate news story.

"This is not an accusation of ha****ment in the workplace - this is not an accusation of an assault - which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate," Wood said in the statement. "He has no obligation to discuss these types of accusations publicly with the media and he will not do so even if his principled position is viewed unfavorably by members of the media."

According to FOX 5, White showed reporters from the network cell phone bills that showed 61 calls or text messages - including in the early-morning and evening hours - from what she said was Cain's private cell phone number.

FOX 5 says its reporters texted that phone number and received a call back from Cain. "He told us he 'knew Ginger White' but said these are 'more false allegations.' He said she had his number because he was 'trying to help her financially,'" the report states.

White appears to have struggled financially in the past: According to FOX 5, she filed bankruptcy in Kentucky more than 20 years ago, and has been served with a number of eviction notices, including one within the last month. She also filed a sexual ha****ment claim against an employer in 2001, the case for which has since been settled, FOX 5 reports.

In the interview, White emphasized that Cain never ha****ed her and that he treated her well throughout the duration of their affair.

"He made it very intriguing," White said. "It was fun. It was something that took me away from my humdrum life at the time. And it was exciting."

When questioned about whether or not her relationship with Cain was ongoing currently, White said "I think it is safe to say that after this interview, that will be the end of it. Yes, we have a friendship now."

In a statement released after White's interview aired, Cain said he would "not fight false claims as it is not what America needs or wants."

"The American public is tired of dirty politics and smear tactics as evident of their tremendous outpouring of support for me, my family and my campaign this past month," he said. "I am running for President of the United States of America and the reality is that there are individuals out there that favor the status quo of higher taxes, more government and political cronyism and they are afraid of a Cain Presidency."

Cain added: "I have spoken directly to the American people and have been 100 percent honest with them. My plan is to continue to spread my vision on how I would renew America and keep her safe. I will not fight false claims as it is not what America needs or wants," continued Mr. Cain.

Two women, Karen Kraushaar and Sharon Bialek, have come forward to publicly accuse Cain of sexual misconduct in the 1990s, while he was head of the National Restaurant Association. Bialek has accused Cain of putting his hand under her skirt and pushing her head toward his crotch after a dinner meeting in 1997. Two women have also made anonymous accusations against Cain for sexual misconduct.

Cain has repeatedly denied the allegations, saying, "I have never acted inappropriately with anyone. Period." Speaking of Bialek, he suggested that "the Democrat machine" brought forth "a troubled woman" in an effort to bring him down. nopejah know everyday dem come wid something else on the bredda.

Welcome to the club, Too Short. The Dead Celebrity Rumors club, that is. Internet rumors that Too Short had died started flying around yesterday (even his Wikipedia page was updated to include his tragic demise), yet the rapper seems to be pretty alive, going by his Twitter feed: Stop calling my phone. Im not dead. Been in the lab working on my 19th album. Just to make absolutely sure Mr. Short was tweeting the truth, TMZ spoke to the musician on the phone. Yes, confirms TMZ, he is alive. We can all rest easy. The 45-year-old West Coast rapper has joined the likes of Kanye West, Eddie Murphy, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, and Hugh Hefner (and many, many others) in being rumored dead while actually alive. Ah, the age of misinformation. We can now put the rumors to rest. Viva la Too Short!

A Jamaican Facebook page is attempting to use its reach to help the homeless.

Members of the popular Mad People Corna Facebook page, an outlet for laughter and societal discussions, are organising a Feed The Homeless Day, scheduled to take place on New Year's Eve in downtown Kingston. The event places emphasis on providing hope and a better standard of living for the homeless.

Administrators of the Mad People Corna page are asking for interested persons to donate $500 or US$6 to the cause.

Additionally, persons with cooking skills, as well as those who can provide transportation for the event, are encouraged to take part in the New Year's Eve initiative.

According to the page's creator, Shevez Morgan, there's a desire to make Feed The Homeless Day an islandwide event, but for now, the group intends to roll out this cause on a smaller scale.

"There was the question as to why we were only doing this in Kingston but please understand that while we know the need exists everywhere, it's our first time doing this, so we would prefer to try it on a smaller scale before we can do an all-island event," Morgan said.

Persons interested in Feed The Homeless Day are being encouraged to join the Mad People Corna page at www.facebook.com/Madpeoplecorna and get account information regarding possible donations.
